[0]
the saddest night of my life for sure
[1]
was the night before I went to jail I
[3]
had to tell the kids it wasn't like the
[5]
movie that took me away I reported for
[7]
jail right and my wife and I my ex-wife
[10]
we sat down with the kids on uh it was a
[12]
Thursday night and he called the kids
[14]
into the living room they're like what's
[16]
up what's up and and I started telling
[18]
my kids you know I said listen you know
[20]
won't ah no you know that when I had
[23]
that big company and I made some
[24]
mistakes and I didn't get even as soon
[27]
as I started getting even close to it my
[28]
daughter starts a bursting out
[30]
hysterically crying my son was very
[33]
young then she just starts crying
[34]
because she's my daughter's crying and
[36]
she and it's is terrible and is just
[38]
gut-wrenching scene where like doors
[39]
like know about it and the kids a hug
[41]
you me and we're just like we just the
[43]
worst thing you can imagine
[45]
let me tell your kids that daddy made a
[47]
mistake you now he's got to go away you
[48]
know and you know I was guilty that
[54]
wasn't how I couldn't say I was trapped
[56]
or this I did it I made a mistake
[57]
I took some great skill and I made the
[59]
mistakes that I deserve to be there and
[61]
no one to blame but myself I made the
[62]
mistakes and very difficult when you
[64]
have to come to terms of that right and
[65]
I think when people watch the movie the
[67]
wolf of Wall Street it's important that
[69]
they look at that movie and say you know
[71]
what I'd get it it's glamorous and it's
[74]
fun you know good I'm not gonna deny
[75]
that it was fine it was glamorous yeah
[76]
but there's something called balance in
[78]
there that when you are that character
[79]
that never ends well I think this never
[82]
ends well and one question that I get
[85]
asked all the time now how was I able to
[88]
stay positive and motivated in what was
[90]
certainly the worst time I like night
[92]
most men women money and lost my freedom
[94]
I lost my children for a time my wife
[96]
bottom down right and I said you know I
[98]
think the bad I said you know here's the
[99]
secret when I was in jail in those
[101]
moments you know and then the worst
[103]
moments of all we're at night fun when
[105]
you are in your bunk
[107]
and people were sleeping you're alone
[109]
with your thoughts and you could just
[110]
really get negative and the answer was
[112]
is that in bed when I was alone with my
[114]
thoughts I would close my eyes and I
[117]
would visualize the faces in like two
[119]
children and I close my eyes and see
[122]
their faces I knew I could let them down
[124]
so badly it caused them so much pain
[125]
and I said there's nothing I won't do
[128]
there's no lead I won't go to the prove
[130]
to these kids that their dad can do it
[132]
right there that dad's gonna come back
[134]
even better than before and it was all
[136]
about truly to my children that you
[138]
could come back from failure that you
[139]
could make the world right that could be
[141]
an example make them proud of me
[142]
that was my wife it was all about my
[145]
kids
[145]
and that's the secret you're why it's
[148]
never about you people will do crazy
[151]
things for cause they believe in but for
[152]
yourself your own one goes so far my
[154]
kids in trouble I'll run through a wall
[156]
of fire and think twice about it and
[157]
that's step number one you have to have
[159]
a vision fears it inspires you you know
[162]
that makes you you know when you think
[163]
about it it just makes you jump out of
[165]
bed go into the really have a life that
[167]
is far better for I'm greater than it is
[170]
today that's your vision for the future
[171]
that's step number one the second thing
[173]
is this is a big one and what most
[174]
people miss you have to have a strategy
[177]
a plan that allows you to achieve your
[179]
vision I was on the beach one day in
[182]
summer in New York there's a huge beach
[184]
Jones Beach and it was a hot summer
[186]
sunny day and everyone's bitching and
[188]
moaning because I have to walk about a
[189]
half a mile for the confessions then and
[191]
my friends my I want to know what
[193]
happened if I went down here with like
[194]
some Italian ices and chip which is it
[195]
fun chuckles right see my girls sell for
[197]
a buck apiece yeah next morning I wake
[199]
up I look at the yellow pages of his
[201]
back don't know it today I find some ice
[203]
cream distributor I picked my old beaten
[205]
up car down there I go buy a styrofoam
[206]
cooler and I load up a cool with a
[209]
barrel of Italian ices and chip witches
[211]
and fudgesicles Milky Way's Snickers
[213]
right put some dry ice on top the whole
[215]
thing loaded up was $22 including the
[217]
cool the pool with seven bucks the ice
[219]
cream is 15 bucks right I get in my car
[220]
drive an hour to the beach it's like 10
[222]
o'clock in the morning I get there I
[223]
walk carry it down there I walk to the
[225]
edge of the water right and I start
[227]
yelling Italian ices chip which is fudge
[228]
apples milk within one hour I saw up the
[231]
entire cooler for 125 dollars
[234]
and it made a hundred bucks in one hour
[237]
and the year was 1978 back then minimum
[240]
wage there was a ballot 20 an hour
[241]
I was made more than my parents that day
[244]
I went back with four coolers right who
[245]
would write I got four coolers right so
[247]
I blow them up with that sold all those
[249]
out made for five hundred dollars my
[250]
second day change my life here's the
[252]
interesting thing
[253]
I told four or five friends about this
[255]
and here's the weird thing they all and
[257]
get it with me but only one of them sold
[260]
more than one cooler a day the other
[262]
fund is five move forward sell one
[264]
cooler and stop only one of them would
[266]
go out like me hustle all day long and
[268]
make the leaves you know 500 bucks
[270]
versus 100 dollars day why is that like
[271]
why would someone do that B hey they're
[274]
really young none of us have money and
[275]
yeah you'll have this opportunity in
[277]
your site where you can make big money
[279]
and that could change your life yet most
[281]
of them 80% stopped with one cooler
[283]
there one cooler people only one of them
[287]
was a four cool person right one of my
[289]
place that comes down to that that was
[291]
last element of a sort of lyrical the
[292]
inner game of success you know what
[294]
happens up here between your ears before
[296]
you ever go out into the world take
[297]
actions and that is your standards some
[300]
people watch on this relation some
[302]
people they have a really bright vision
[304]
a bold vision it's great grand vision
[306]
right amazing Wow inspiring but they
[309]
have a low stance they're not willing to
[311]
do the work a champagne vision and beer
[313]
standards right and then you have the
[316]
other sort of people those were the
[318]
really high standards but they lack a
[321]
vision for the future they don't have a
[323]
vision that inspires them so these are
[325]
like the workers when they do they sorta
[327]
have this champagne standards and a beer
[329]
vision it's about having a match between
[331]
your standards and your vision and the
[334]
question arises when what should
[336]
bystanders be it doesn't matter they
[338]
should be congruent with your vision
[340]
there's no right or wrong answer how
[342]
much what doesn't matter you have to
[343]
have that vision for the future number
[346]
two you have that the strategies to make
[348]
the vision a reality but number three
[350]
you have to be able to share that vision
[352]
with other people to communicate the
[355]
vision to people in a way that moves
[357]
to take action to come help you achieve
[358]
it that gets them going gets them pumped
[361]
there's a clip of Warren Buffett it's
[363]
actually Warren Buffett and Bill Gates
[365]
and one young lady asks Buffett a
[368]
question and she says you know we're
[370]
going out into the workforce what can we
[373]
do to make ourselves more valuable in
[375]
the workforce
[376]
good question right and Warren Buffett
[378]
looks at her and I think okay he's gonna
[380]
say study your financial tables you know
[382]
you learn how to be an expert on on
[385]
banking whatever it might be fit you'll
[386]
be picking out companies all right no he
[388]
already says he goes it is one thing you
[391]
can do go take a course and study
[393]
communication sales persuasion that's
[396]
what you go to because that that's a
[397]
skill and they don't teach you in
[399]
college they don't really teach right
[401]
and it's the most crucial skill out
[403]
there in fact he as he says when I got
[405]
out of college Warren Buffett says I was
[407]
a terrible communicator that couldn't
[408]
sell anything right so what did I do
[410]
he went out and took of course now back
[412]
then the goal turn was Dale Carnegie
[414]
right as many many years ago he took
[416]
that course I needed to change my life
[418]
because it allowed me to go out there
[420]
and communicate and sell ghosts here's
[422]
the deal
[422]
what would Warren Buffett be if you'd
[425]
never take the necklace he never learned
[426]
how to close the deal
[427]
what would Warren Buffett be through
[428]
there you know what do think he'd be the
[430]
most successful money manager in Omaha
[432]
Nebraska that nobody ever heard of when
[434]
someone like Warren Buffett was like the
[436]
opposite of what you think a salesperson
[438]
is right says that that's the skill you
[440]
want to do one thing to improve your
[442]
life and really and ensure that you get
[444]
what you want life learn how to convey
[446]
let his cell
[446]
learn how to communicate learn how to
[448]
sell right because people without that
[450]
you know you die with your music on your
[452]
lips you can't it's like if it kills me
[455]
because there's so many people out there
[457]
in the world that have these great ideas
[459]
right they have this great passion
[461]
inside and they can make the difference
[464]
in the world and the difference in their
[465]
own life and their family right all the
[467]
stuff they could do and yet because they
[470]
lack the ability to communicate this
[473]
idea to sell their idea to other people
[475]
they end up locking it keep it locked
[478]
inside and they die that ever expression
[480]
so to me that's the saddest thing my
[482]
wife that was my inspiration like one of
[484]
the things that she said he was so funny
[485]
is we first met my houses I have never
[488]
met someone
[490]
that is so fearless like you have all
[492]
this stuff you're just plowing forward
[493]
you're feelin so you guys are I'm scared
[496]
there's nothing to stop me I am
[500]
scared and that's what courage is all
[502]
about I let my fear plow me forward push
[505]
me forward and that's to me if they're
[507]
reframing your own it's a really a
[508]
reframe about what fear is what pain
[510]
really is pain is the greatest
[512]
motivating force in the world but if
[514]
you're gonna go into denial and become
[516]
numb numb yourself to the pain you're
[518]
gonna live a smaller and small live in
[520]
till one day when you're old and dead
[521]
ready to die you look back at all the
[523]
things that you could have done you
[524]
should've done you would have done and
[526]
you didn't do because you thought well
[528]
you know what I'm okay I'm doing decent
[532]
that's not so terrible as people was you
[533]
know what about don't live that
[535]
like don't be the person that looks back
[537]
and has regret and didn't take action to
[540]
get what they truly want in life when
[542]
you're not feeling massive pain humans
[545]
tend to just sit up well I'll stay pat
[547]
don't do that take the pain take the
[549]
bitter pill because you don't want that
[551]
bitter pill will end up being sweet and
[553]
if you're living that life you're 25 28
[556]
years old or 22 year old or 40 years old
[558]
right and you're this sort of dead-end
[560]
job it's not what you want to do don't
[562]
think for a split second that this is
[565]
your lot in life that you have to stay
[567]
on this road and any moment in time you
[569]
can make the decision you can get off
[571]
that road and start doling out a
[573]
completely different road and you know
[574]
what yet we'll do some pain there'll be
[575]
some lack in your life and you know what
[577]
that's what will drive you to greatness
[579]
it starts by having the visions of the
[581]
future to really see your life better
[584]
than it is right now and that was my
[585]
secret and that is gonna be your secret
[587]
too when you find that why once you have
[590]
that power then you will definitely
[592]
achieve your vision no matter what it
[594]
might that happened overnight but it
[596]
will happen
[596]
promise
