Intro
[71]
The most common reason of lump in the neck are the lymph nodes.
[77]
These lymph nodes function to separate micro organisms from the blood and helps in killing of these microorganisms or the cause of infection.
[87]
That is why when either in the throat or any other part of the body such as limb has an infection
[92]
or if there is any trauma to any part of the body
[100]
then the lymph nodes of that area enlarge and functions to stop the spread of infection throughout the body.
[107]
Since the children are more likely to have a throat infection, allergic rhinitis and cough therefore they are more likely to have an enlarged lymph nodes or lump in their neck.
[113]
therefore they are more likely to have an enlarged lymph nodes or lump in their neck.
[120]
and because these lumps or enlarged lymph nodes are because of infection which is temporary and reduces in size with use of antibiotics
[126]
therefore the parents should not be worried because of the presence of these swellings.
[132]
On the other hand, one should know that if the infection is not there and still the patient has lump in the neck then this lump may be because of some diseases in which these lymph nodes are increased
[148]
such as TB or tuberculosis as the tuberculosis is very common in Pakistan and the neighbour country India
[156]
and results in enlarged lymph nodes in the neck or the enlarged lymph nodes in the axilla
[162]
therefore if there is a patient of tuberculosis either in the home or in the family or friends then that person with enlarged lymphnodes should be screened for the presence of Tuberculosis.
[175]
If you want to know more about tuberculosis and its medications then please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen and whats my video on that topic
[189]
similarly there is another disease called lymphoma that does result in formation of enlarged lump in neck which is actually cancer of these lymph nodes.
[196]
In this condition the lymphnodes nodes are enlarged
[201]
but this disease commonly involve the elderly people. Children and young people are usually spared from this disease
[210]
but one variant of this form known as hodgkin's lymphoma can occur in children as well
[217]
and in this disease the patient can have a swelling either in one or more than one part of the body such as the patient can have a swelling in the axilla or in the groin.
[231]
therefore if anyone is having a weight loss or a low grade continuous fever or night sweats or a cough and the swelling is present in different body parts
[244]
in that situation the patient should consult a doctor and does require tests of these neck nodes and should have a FNAC that will help in identifying the cause of this neck node.
[256]
The next more common swelling in the neck is the thyroid swelling.
[263]
to find out what is the thyroid swelling please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen
[273]
Someone has recently got this neck swelling and along with it they have the sore throat or difficulty in swallowing
[281]
or runny nose or any other allergic symptom then these lymph nodes are most probably because of this allergy
[288]
and with the use of medications for few days which may include the antibiotics and anti-allergic these next swellings can go away
[298]
After the complete examination the doctor would prescribe you the medications based on the cause of infection and the part of the body involved in infection
[321]
It's not possible to discuss all the antibiotics and all the anti allergic which can be prescribed in the patient based on the symptoms
[326]
therefore consult your nearby doctor and take his advise for the medications.
[338]
but if these swelling are not responding to medication despite of 15 days of treatment
[345]
or if you are now feeling more swellings in other body parts then one should have an FNAC
[355]
In this FNAC, with the help of a needle we take a sample from the lymph nodes in which a small bite of tissue is taken and sent for the the test in lab
[368]
or in other patients we can take a biopsy as well.
[373]
If you want to know what is biopsy and how is it done
[377]
and what are the reasons of it then please click the link in the upper right corner of the screen
[382]
and watch my video on that topic
[387]
In case of any problem please consult your nearby doctor he will help you understand your disease in a better way.
