video I will help you understand the difference  between HMO vs. PPO when it comes to health care,  

and give you examples, so that you can choose a  plan that aligns with your values, your needs,  

and budget. For over 12 years I've been working  with clients and their families to help build

with defining an HMO. HMO (also known as health  maintenance organization) is a small group of  

doctors specialists and facilities that  work together for your healthcare needs.  

HMOs typically have lower insurance premiums,  and your HMO primary care physician referral is  

required for care from a specialist. An example  of an HMO is Kaiser Permanente. Now let's take a  

look at PPOS (also known as preferred provider  organization)-- a larger selection of doctors  

specialists and facilities that you have to choose  from. These folks have been approved by insurance  

companies. With a PPO you don't need a referral to  see a specialist, but your insurance premiums with  

PPO are usually higher than an HMO, So which  is best: a PPO or an HMO? If you just need  

health insurance coverage, and you don't go to the  doctor very often, an HMO might be the perfect fit  

for you. And if you love your HMO doctors and the  specialists, that makes them a great fit as well,  

but if you're a person that wants a second or a  third opinion on something, and you want to see  

various specialists, a PPO might be the best  fit for you. Comment below sharing which plan

examples for you. Here is your first example:  you or your partner are having a baby...I just  

love the scenario because I love babies and I love  children...if you've appointed HMO all of your in  

prenatal visits and your your delivery will be  within that HMO provider. Think single medical  

provider helping you guide you through all your  decision-making through the delivery and birth  

of your baby. HMOs are designed to run smoothly  and make it easy for you by streamlining your  

health care. Let's just know that you don't have  a lot of choices when it comes to HMOs. Here's  

our next example: you accidentally break your  arm playing your favorites sport and you need  

surgery or repair it. If you're part of a PPO you  will choose which hospital you are admitted to,  

which surgeon you use, and if you need physical  therapy you'll choose that as well with a PPO.  

In this case with a broken arm, an HMO may be  better if you need to be referred to a specialist  

quickly and want to save on cost. Now you know the  differences between an HMO and a PPO, but what is
