and something that you can do if you're

up front i'm gonna walk you through this

five step process and it's not gonna

take very long to start to grasp this

but i do want to

just answer some of your skepticism the

thing is that when you work

at a company you're probably earning

that company a lot of money and revenue

probably much more than what you're

getting paid in salary

what would it look like if you were

getting a 10 cut

of all the value that you've generated

for the company

over the years that would look very

interesting for you in terms of your

income

right what if there were scenarios where

you were getting 30

or even 50 of the value that you created

since the transaction since the sale

would not have happened

without you at all that would be very
[127]
different from the experience that
[128]
you're having right now so when we talk

about affiliate marketing we're really

talking about commission

sales and we're talking about revenue

sharing or profit sharing

that's the relationship we're talking

about we're not talking about sketchy

multi-level marketing we're not talking

about anything like that that's a scam

we're talking about the simple fact that

sometimes

we can actually be compensated for the

value that we create

proportionately and the reason that i

think this will resonate for people more

is when you understand that regardless

of what a transaction has taken place if

you facilitated it

then you should probably share in the

profits so let's get into step number

one

step number one for affiliate marketing
[168]
is gonna have to do with traffic
[170]
and it's really the thing that i know a
[172]
lot of people have the biggest criticism
[174]
of roberto i can't do this i don't have

a big youtube channel

i didn't when i started either roberto

i'm not well known i don't have an
[183]
audience you have to start somewhere you
[186]
either have to have
[187]
a website that is a niche site that is
[189]
targeting search engine traffic
[191]
a blog that caters to a very specific
[194]
community
[194]
a podcast that people listen to and is
[197]
distributed across all the different
[198]
podcasts
[199]
apps that people enjoy or a youtube
[202]
channel
[203]
this is going to be the home for your
[205]
content and a place to put your
[207]
affiliate links
[208]
and also connect them with an audience
[210]
so the thing is you do need to figure
[212]
out
[213]
what platform you're going to use to get
[215]
traffic
[216]
so that's the first part now in terms of
[218]
building that up from scratch
[220]
the good news is that there's over a
[222]
thousand videos on this channel and one
[224]
of our big focuses
[225]
is helping you to create content
[228]
for different things so whether you want
[230]
to start a blog or a website
[231]
there is content here on the channel to
[233]
help you if you want to grow and build
[234]
an audience on youtube
[236]
we have content around that and we also
[237]
have some getting started tutorials

around creating a podcast just like i
[241]
did so step number one
[243]
is creating that traffic source step
[246]
number two is going to be signing up for
[247]
an affiliate program
[249]
the most common ones are amazon.com
[252]
commission junction and share a sale
[254]
these are larger affiliate networks that
[257]
have access to a lot of different
[259]
products and services
[261]
the most common one that people will be
[262]
familiar with is going to be amazon
[265]
and there are a lot of other ones that
[266]
are very niche specific that are
[268]
out there you also have individual
[270]
websites that offer affiliate programs
[272]
my specialty has always been software
[275]
now i do a lot of tutorial content
[277]
and so there are people who ultimately
[279]
want to use the same software that i'm
[281]
using
[281]
to do my work produce my results or the
[283]
things i use to save me time in terms of
[285]
productivity
[286]
so when i create tutorials around that i
[289]
end up getting affiliate commissions
[291]
usually directly
[293]
from those companies amazon is the way
[296]
that i think
[296]
most people should go and it's pretty
[299]
easy to sign up
[300]
now you do sometimes have to be able to
[302]
give them a website or have a certain
[304]
number of social media followers
[306]
i believe at least 500 right now is what
[308]
you would need
[309]
for the amazon influencer program you
[311]
need that in some platform
[313]
and make sense since that's probably
[315]
going to be a prerequisite to you
[316]
actually making money and getting people
[318]
to click in the first place
[320]
other affiliate programs may not have
[322]
any requirements at all i've actually
[324]
made a video
[325]
on 10 of the best highest paying
[328]
affiliate programs that exist it's a
[330]
long video but i get into the details
[332]
you need to know about each of these
[334]
and how much they pay so i'm going to
[335]
link that in the info card up here and

in the description down below if you

that video my suggestion though is that
[342]
you don't just chase the thing that pays
[344]
the most
[345]
i think you should make your content and
[347]
your audience revolve around the thing
[349]
that you are
[350]
confident to recommend and that you can
[352]
you know truthfully suggest that people
[355]
use
[355]
and pay for ideally something you use
[358]
yourself on a regular basis
[359]
step number three is going to be once
[361]
you are signed up to an affiliate
[362]
program you need to start creating and
[364]
generating your affiliate links
[366]
i'm going to recommend that you use
[367]
google sheets or microsoft excel to also
[370]
keep track of these
[371]
in a spreadsheet this is going to make
[374]
it really easy and convenient for you to
[376]
always get access to this links and to
[378]
share it with people if you want if
[380]
you're out and somebody
[381]
ask you um to refer or recommend
[383]
something you might even be able to pull
[384]
it up in your phone

grab this link and to refer them with

regard to this by the way

if you happen to use an iphone and you
[392]
are using the amazon
[394]
affiliate program there's a great app
[396]
called affiliator
[397]
and you can use that to generate links
[399]
on the fly you know right here from your
[401]
phone and then you can copy and paste
[403]
them and send them to whoever's asking
[404]
you for them
[405]
i have a lot of people who might direct
[406]
message me and will go back and forth
[408]
and they might be trying to figure out
[409]
like what camera they want so on and so
[411]
forth so i'm just able to go into the
[412]
app
[413]
grab a link and send it to them if i
[415]
didn't have affiliator or let's say i
[417]
need a link from one of my other
[418]
affiliate programs
[420]
then i would just go into my excel
[421]
document um or my google sheets document
[424]
in my phone grab it out of the cloud and
[426]
then i know exactly
[428]
what link i'm sending them another thing
[430]
that you can do is if you have your own
[432]
website

then you can also set up short links
[435]
that refer
[436]
people to your affiliate programs
[439]
whatever they might be

primary example for a lot of my
[442]
background music

i use epidemic sound and i have a link

for a 30-day free trial to that so when

i want people

to go to that affiliate link i tell them
[451]

epidemic sound and use my affiliate link

and get a 30-day free trial

when they do that it directly takes them

to this very long
[461]
very complicated link that i would never
[464]
be able to remember

that they would never be able to
[467]
remember and that i might type in wrong

using you know my browser or whatever so

it's actually making it very simple

to have these short links this is

something you can do if you have a
[476]
wordpress blog

if you don't have one then i'm going to

there that is a primary example of how

affiliate marketing works in the real

world when you have a solution that

solves someone's problem

you can send them to this link and as

long as you make it convenient and easy

for them

people are happy to use it and if they

buy then you gain value or if they sign

up for the free trial

you gain value this is also something

people struggle with with amazon a lot

of you say roberto

i have not been able to stay in the

amazon affiliate program because i

didn't make
[514]
the required sales in 90 days use the
[518]
free
[518]
trials that amazon offers for things
[521]
like amazon prime
[522]
amazon music or even audible with
[525]
audible
[526]
if you recommend the audible to people
[528]
they get to keep
[529]
two free audio books forever even if
[531]
they don't keep the subscription
[533]
and you actually get five dollar
[535]
commissions on that if they decide to
[537]
buy
[537]
audible off of your recommendation you'd
[539]
get 10 commission
[540]
so the thing is it's a zero risk to your
[542]
audience to do free
[544]
trials and there still might be paying
[546]
commission bounties
[547]
in exchange for that so just look at
[550]
when you sign up and you do create your
[552]
affiliate links look at some of the
[554]
rules look at some of the terms of
[555]
service and look at the opportunities
[557]
and then also consider something like a
[559]
blog to generate
[561]
short links to just refer people so that
[564]
it's
[564]
easy and convenient to give them your
[566]
affiliate link
[567]
i told you this was going to be a step

by step but you probably didn't believe
[571]
me when you clicked on this video

but that's okay i do understand the

skepticism around these videos

i'm okay with it but i'm just going to

tell you how it actually is and what you

need to do

so that fourth thing that you do need to

go ahead

and set up and put in place is you need

to actually start making
[588]
individual pieces of content that give
[590]
you a natural
[591]
opportunity to offer your affiliate link

for me in the case of doing a lot of

things that have to do with software

i do tutorials sometimes when it has to

do with hardware though

i'll do list like top five list top 10

budget list this worked really good for
[608]
me back in the day with laptops on
[610]
amazon and i think back then laptops
[612]
regardless of price had
[614]
a top out commission regardless of their
[616]
price at about
[617]
25 or 30 dollars i can't remember and
[620]
this did really well for me because i
[622]
had
[622]
these you know extensive laptop buyers
[625]
guides
[626]
and i would list multiple options for
[628]
laptops so people were clicking on those
[630]
links
[630]
i do have some videos here on the
[631]
channel specifically about tips for
[633]
amazon affiliate marketing if you're
[635]
interested
[635]
but i'm just using this as an example so
[637]
by making buyers guides
[639]
for hardware recommendations for camera
[642]
lenses
[643]
laptops camera bodies lighting gear
[646]
microphones things like that
[647]
i was able to make substantial
[648]
commissions from amazon when i was
[650]
focused
[651]
on tech content earlier in my career
[653]
making as much as
[654]
you know fifteen hundred dollars a month
[657]
in amazon commissions which is actually
[658]
really isn't bad
[660]
it might be comparable to what some
[661]
people are making now with their
[662]
full-time job
[664]
just depending on what your job is but
[666]
with software as a
[668]
service there are often recurring
[670]
commissions like the ones i receive from
[672]
tubebuddy
[673]
those of you unfamiliar tubebuddy is a
[675]
tool that a lot of us youtube content
[677]
creators use
[678]
just help us with productivity and seo
[680]
by
[681]
recommending this over the last four
[683]
years and actually being a user
[685]
and being a power user who uses the
[687]
advanced features
[688]
you know i've been able to refer
[690]
thousands of people to them
[691]
and as a result of that i get 30
[694]
commissions when i started
[696]
or was it 20 was something like 20 or 30
[698]
percent when i started
[700]
they've changed the program now and you
[701]
start at 30 then you move to 40
[704]
and then if you become a super affiliate
[705]
like me 50
[708]
so in the case of tubebuddy i've had a
[710]
long relationship with them
[711]
i've been doing a lot of content that
[713]
would actually encourage people to get
[715]
this
[716]
plug-in for their youtube channel and as
[718]
a result over the last four years i've
[720]
earned about a quarter million dollars
[722]
in commissions and that's my cut of the
[725]
revenue
[726]
and because this is software as a
[728]
service it's a subscription
[730]
so that means that the money is
[732]
recurring in nature
[734]
so when you're creating your content
[736]
something to keep in mind
[737]
is think about what you're promoting
[740]
think about how to structure the content
[742]
to where it's a natural fit for you
[744]
and for the audience i don't think you
[746]
should make content just based on how
[748]
much money you stand to make
[750]
from doing those videos but i think you
[752]
realistically
[753]
should make it a consideration i think
[755]
it should
[756]
play some role in there because i'm not
[758]
naive enough to think that you know
[760]
you're not going to be thinking about
[761]
that when you make content
[763]
i don't think it should be the number
[764]
one priority but i do think it's fine if
[766]
it's a priority because i understand
[768]
that you have bills to pay
[769]
and since i know that's exactly how it
[771]
is and i don't think there's anything
[772]
wrong with that i'm not gonna sit here
[774]
and virtue signal to you
[775]
and pretend that money doesn't matter to
[778]
you
[778]
when you are putting affiliate links in
[780]
your content just make sure that you're
[782]
properly disclosing everything
[784]
that you're upfront with your audience
[785]
make sure in your description that you
[787]
have the appropriate amazon disclaimer
[789]
because they really need that
[790]
and just make sure you're compliant with
[792]
the ftc in the future i may do a very
[794]
brief video
[795]
on affiliate disclosures i just think
[797]
that's something that's very easy for
[799]
you to google search
[800]
and so i'm not 100 sure if it merits
[802]
stone video

but i'll probably just do it for

reference because some people would
[806]
rather watch

than read that's just how it is the

fifth and final step

is once you have an inventory a library
[812]
of content that has your affiliate links
[814]
in it
[815]
you might want to go ahead and just
[816]
start promoting that content more often
[818]
it's like i said you need traffic for
[820]
people to eventually
[821]
buy using those links so if you're going
[824]
to create the content you need to
[825]
promote the content
[826]
so let's go over those five steps really

quickly before we close out the video

and then i'm gonna give you a last and

final tip

step number one is to have a traffic

source somewhere where you're making
[837]
content whether that's youtube a blog or
[840]
a podcast or a niche website number two

sign up for an affiliate program of your

choice

number three in your affiliate program
[849]
of choice go ahead and create the
[851]
affiliate links that you're gonna post
[852]
to your content
[853]
i also believe in having a spreadsheet
[856]
that lists these out
[857]
number four make content that gives you
[859]
a natural opportunity
[861]
to share these affiliate links go ahead
[863]
and put that where it's appropriate
[865]
and make sure that you're offering your
[867]
audience something that you can truly
[869]
recommend honestly

and step number five promote your
[872]
content so that gets eyeballs on it

those are your five main steps to

getting started with

affiliate marketing i have more detailed

my final tip when it comes to affiliate

marketing is to do your research and do

your homework

make sure that when you are recommending

something that you understand

enough about it to where you can follow

up with your audience and answer their

questions one of the reasons that people

trust me and my affiliate links is they

know

when i recommend software it's something

i'm using in my business probably every

day

i recommend hardware where i recommend

camera gear microphones
[906]
lighting anything that i use here on the
[908]
youtube channel

people are able to see on a regular
[910]
basis in my content in my
[912]
instagram post on twitter that i'm
[914]
always using and experimenting with

these
[917]
pieces of gear changing things up and
[919]
that i know my
[920]
gear and my hardware intimately and i
[922]
can give them advice on what to buy and
[924]
what fits their needs
[926]
and their budget so the more research
[928]
you do the more you understand something
[929]
that you're recommending

the more people are going to trust that
[932]
relationship and come to you as an
[934]
authority
[935]
whether through your content or through
[936]
you directly so

just make sure you're really educated

about anything that you're going to

recommend people buy

because they will probably come back to

you with questions and i think that the

better you serve them

the more likely it is that they come

back to you again in the future and use
