Biden's pledge to kill blue collar jobs for clean energy being compared to Clinton's 2016 misstep - YouTube

Joe Biden pledging to kill blue-collar
[2]
jobs for a green economy it's a move
[4]
that is drawing comparisons to what
[6]
Hillary Clinton calls her biggest
[8]
mistake in 2016 watch this I'm the only
[12]
candidate which has a policy about how
[16]
to bring Economic Opportunity using
[17]
clean renewable energy as the key into
[21]
coal country because we're gonna put a
[24]
lot of coal miners and coal companies
[25]
out of business
[27]
let's bring in Scott Bolden former DC
[30]
Democratic primary chairman and former
[31]
chair of the National Bar Association
[33]
PAC
[34]
killing blue-collar jobs I mean is that
[36]
not like shooting yourself in the foot
[38]
especially if you're a Democrat running
[39]
for president well I don't think so
[42]
because in either one of those cases and
[44]
I think Biden's much more likeable and
[46]
got a lot more credibility with
[48]
blue-collar workers if he kills me
[50]
blue-collar jobs let me tell you that's
[52]
not exactly what he said what he said
[54]
was would you be willing to sacrifice
[56]
blue-collar jobs ie coal country or coal
[59]
miners in exchange for a green economy
[62]
or to give them higher paying jobs and
[64]
to train them the answer is always gonna
[67]
be yes because the coal industry hasn't
[69]
improved under under Donald Trump and
[71]
because the green economy is coming
[73]
because global warming is real
[75]
regardless of the Republicans think it's
[77]
a hoax and so what you really are
[79]
getting from Biden is straight talk with
[81]
a lot of credibility and a lot of higher
[83]
paying jobs with well-trained workers
[85]
and that can be coal miners and their
[88]
transition to the green economy it
[89]
happened under Obama and it can happen
[91]
again it's happening by itself anyway
[93]
because we got to do something about
[94]
global warming does this hurt Biden in
[96]
states like Michigan and Pennsylvania I
[98]
mean just speaking Pennsylvania alone I
[100]
worked I lived in wilkes-barre
[102]
Pennsylvania and I know the coal mining
[104]
community there well if you're gonna
[106]
tell all these coal miners you're out of
[107]
a job but don't worry we'll find you
[109]
something better
[110]
where's the guarantee because you don't
[111]
put people out of jobs okay
[113]
unless you absolutely can guarantee them
[115]
better work in higher wages and there's
[118]
no one who can do that well the Biden
[121]
the Democrats certainly have a plan and
[123]
that's what they're talking about
[124]
transitioning those coal miners and
[126]
those blue-collar workers to higher
[128]
paying jobs now the Teke is this
[131]
is he believable can he convince them
[134]
that that's a way to make more money get
[136]
better trained and build this economy I
[139]
think he's got credibility Hillary
[141]
Clinton on the other hand I don't think
[143]
she had a whole lot of credibility and
[144]
you got you saw the result whether the
[146]
Russians weren't involved or not but I
[148]
think Biden is telling the truth and I
[150]
think if he can convince them and he's
[152]
got a lot of credibility then it'll sell
[154]
but you can't kill those blue-collar
[156]
jobs and give them nothing you got to
[158]
have a plan to transition them into the
[160]
green economy and that's that's an
[162]
important distinction as you probably
[163]
well know that is critical that they
[165]
there has to be a smooth transition my
[167]
question to you is you know do you think
[169]
that Biden realizes that he's really got
[171]
a you know appease progressives here if
[174]
you actually really wants to win this
[176]
nomination I mean where we just talked
[178]
about the fact that you know some
[180]
Democratic insiders believe that now
[181]
Bernie Sanders has a real shot of
[183]
winning the nomination
[184]
I hope Biden's listening well I think he
[187]
is you know Bernie Sanders has been the
[189]
most consistent Democratic presidential
[191]
candidate in this race
[193]
it was pretty consistent in the prior
[195]
race - and so the other candidates have
[198]
gone up and down in the polls including
[200]
Biden and booed a judge and so forth and
[203]
so on but I think Biden is different in
[205]
this case I think he tries to do what he
[207]
can with the left because you can't
[209]
ignore them but they're not going to be
[210]
dispositive of this race I've often said
[212]
on this network the Democratic Party is
[215]
more moderate and more conservative than
[217]
the GOP and the media give them credit
[219]
for they covered the ALCS of the world
[222]
but the reality is the majority of these
[224]
voters are moderate and Democratic
[225]
voters are moderate and conservative and
[227]
that's why Joe was leading include
[228]
because of the black vote meantime
[230]
Congress from Alexandria Acacio Cortes
[232]
has constantly railed against
[233]
billionaires during her time in
[234]
Washington she has failed to mention
[237]
that billionaire and 2020 dem Tom Steyer
[240]
donated to her 2018 campaign oops
[243]
here's Ocasio Cortes just last week
[245]
during a campaign rally for Bernie
[247]
Sanders watch
[252]
for instituting purity tests it's called
[256]
having values standards for your contact
[262]
to not be funded by billionaires
[265]
[Applause]
[270]
it's called having a bad memory
[272]
apparently I just totally hypocritical I
[275]
mean could this hurt Bernie Sanders when
[276]
he's got a OC they're railing against
[278]
billionaire money at his rallies while
[280]
she herself has benefited from
[282]
billionaire donations it's called
[285]
winning and you can't win without money
[288]
and when she took that donation not from
[290]
time but from his former fund manager
[293]
family that he was a part of she was a
[295]
candidate to win and she upset the
[297]
incumbent and so I don't think $2,700
[300]
from one billionaire is dispositive of
[303]
winning but you sir aren't gonna be
[305]
turning down any money
[306]
listen money is always gonna be a part
[308]
of politics you've got the Supreme Court
[310]
that says you've got a First Amendment
[311]
right under the United decision and
[313]
while these purity test will are
[315]
important what they're really talking
[317]
about is money that corrupts the
[319]
election the campaign and the elected
[322]
official because money's not corruptible
[324]
individuals candidates or elected
[326]
officials are the ones that are
[328]
corruptible and so what she's really
[330]
talking about is when a much broader
[331]
basis that if billionaires who give
[334]
millions to various campaigns and
[336]
independent PACs if they dominate and
[338]
overwhelm the vote and they skew the
[341]
result that's a real problem okay well
[345]
where people do not donate twenty seven
[348]
hundred dollars to a campaign whether
[350]
you're a millionaire a billionaire they
[351]
don't $10 or $100 and they can they make
[356]
far less that's it that's a very
[358]
important voice for them yeah and an
[360]
important investment for them all right
[362]
thank you very much we talked to yeah
[364]
Scott thank you
