Biden ‘really doesn’t understand how business works’: Home Depot co-founder - YouTube
Channel: Fox Business
[0]
also watching the fallout from joe
[1]
biden's remarks in case you had any
[2]
doubts
[3]
that things are going to change if he
[5]
becomes president united states
[6]
especially with regard to wall street
[8]
this put that to rest take a listen
[11]
let's make sure their workers have a
[14]
power
[15]
and the voice it's way past time we put
[18]
an end to
[19]
the era of shareholder capitalism the
[22]
idea the only responsibility a
[24]
corporation has is with shareholders
[27]
that's simply not true it's an absolute
[29]
force
[30]
they have responsibility to their
[32]
workers their community to their country
[37]
all right now the former vice president
[39]
coughed i think i heard wall street puke
[41]
when he said that because this is not
[44]
what they want to hear
[45]
now they don't have to be republican or
[47]
democrat but they like the money they've
[48]
been making
[50]
in a low tax environment low regulatory
[52]
environment on
[53]
the so-called trump environment so
[55]
whatever they might think of the
[56]
president personally they like the goods
[58]
he's delivered at the corner of wall and
[60]
brought
[60]
and they don't take too kindly to a
[63]
possible president saying that that
[64]
shareholder capitalism
[66]
and uh idolizing of those days those are
[69]
gone
[69]
i don't know how bernie marcus feels
[71]
about it but i'm so glad i have him with
[72]
us right now one of my favorite guests
[74]
all the decades i've been uh working at
[76]
fox who
[77]
uh as a good read on this no doubt of
[79]
course the co-founder of home depot
[81]
as optimistic and spry as he was when he
[84]
came up with that company
[85]
um bernie so good to have you what do
[87]
you think of this
[89]
he's sick that is joe biden of
[91]
shareholder capitalism
[94]
well you know first of all here's a guy
[97]
that never worked in his life
[99]
i think he's been in government all his
[101]
life so he
[102]
really doesn't understand how business
[104]
works i could tell you
[106]
neil and you and you have had kenny and
[108]
myself on
[110]
many many times home depot without
[117]
without the capital market uh wouldn't
[119]
be here today
[120]
you know we have 2700 stores uh doing
[123]
over 100 billion dollars in sales a year
[126]
uh and we we say it happened because of
[129]
the capital market
[131]
we had four stores we're under
[132]
capitalized
[134]
we didn't know how we're going to
[135]
continue we have trouble paying our
[137]
bills
[138]
and we went to the market we had profits
[141]
on the stores that we
[142]
had it looked pretty good we went to the
[144]
market
[145]
and the market gave us additional
[147]
financing in order to grow the company
[150]
so the stock market has become very very
[153]
important for us
[155]
as it is for all small businesses look
[157]
uh
[158]
if you if you if you talk about the fact
[160]
that we owe it to our
[161]
employees well yes of course uh there is
[164]
a concern about the employees
[166]
and home depot has done everything in
[168]
its power to make sure that his
[170]
employees
[171]
were part and parcel of what we did so
[174]
they got a piece of the action
[176]
many people became very wealthy with
[178]
home depot
[180]
as the stock climbed and as we opened
[182]
more and more stores but the capital
[184]
market became very important to us
[186]
and to talk about this um
[190]
from a standpoint of a government
[192]
employee who's never ever been involved
[194]
with
[194]
with the marketplace i don't give a too
[197]
much credibility
[198]
in fact it's it's very concerning as the
[200]
one in your speakers said
[202]
the 401ks most of america is invested
[206]
in a stock market in one way or another
[208]
in 401ks
[210]
so if you're going to close down the
[211]
market uh you're going to be in deep
[214]
deep trouble i will tell you that it
[216]
just doesn't make any sense to me but
[217]
hey most of what he says doesn't make
[219]
sense anyway
[222]
all right so i'm going to put you down
[223]
as a navy on joe biden but let me ask
[225]
you then bernie about the kind of
[227]
message he's sending
[229]
be suspicious of wall street be
[231]
suspicious of those billionaires and
[233]
those real capitalist success stories
[236]
because it's not about
[237]
i'm not about helping them i'm about
[239]
helping you i'm glad you pointed out
[242]
that most americans whether they know it
[243]
or not are directly or indirectly
[245]
invested in the market's success leaving
[248]
that aside
[249]
he clearly is trying to capitalize on
[251]
that anti-wall street view that's out
[254]
there
[254]
what do you think well look
[257]
look that's the yes
[260]
yesterday's discussion that he had was
[264]
written for him
[265]
it's probably not going to be anything
[267]
that he's going to do
[269]
because he's surrounded by these
[270]
left-wing people
[272]
he did talk about raising taxes which he
[274]
will do
[275]
he didn't talk about what the onerous
[278]
onerous
[279]
regulations that they had when trump
[282]
came into office
[283]
the regulations were strangling small
[285]
businesses
[286]
and businesses of all kind and and the
[289]
first thing he did was get rid of those
[291]
regulations
[292]
he hasn't changed he's part of eight
[295]
month eight years
[296]
of a organization that had low
[300]
uh low employment a very high
[302]
unemployment rates
[304]
uh businesses were going down you
[306]
remember that obama said
[308]
1.5 was the new norm on gps
[311]
they so they were used to and they were
[314]
pushing
[315]
the fact that america could not be
[317]
better well
[318]
you know trump brought it up to a very
[321]
good number before the
[322]
virus before the virus hit
[325]
numbers that they we had never seen
[327]
before uh unemployment was down
[329]
dramatically
[330]
uh unemployment for the minorities was
[333]
down dramatically
[334]
uh the gdp was great and then
[337]
this horrible horrible uh virus came in
[342]
and killed it all for a while but let me
[344]
ask a question the american people
[346]
if who would you rather have a man who
[350]
created
[351]
good job market created a good economy
[354]
or would you rather have joe biden who
[357]
was there for eight years
[358]
and we looked at a staggered a terrible
[362]
economy for eight years i don't know it
[365]
seems to me every business person out
[367]
there
[367]
and everybody who has a job would
[369]
understand that he's not the guy that's
[371]
going to bring it back
[372]
this is a really bad deal small
[375]
businesses are getting hammered
[377]
as you as you heard from your other
[378]
speakers well bernie let me just
[380]
i just want to let people know what
[382]
they're watching as you're speaking the
[383]
president has arrived right now in doral
[385]
florida he's going to be speaking at u.s
[387]
command up there he has a fundraiser
[389]
later tonight a planned event up
[391]
tomorrow night in new hampshire has been
[392]
canceled
[394]
because of this tropical storm about to
[395]
hit much of the east coast it already is
[397]
in the atlantic east coast
[399]
all the way up through new england
[400]
including new hampshire so the
[401]
president's
[402]
cancelled that but bernie you were
[403]
mentioning what
[405]
the environment was like under barack
[407]
obama i think you were referring to
[409]
the the lower uh gdp growth that that he
[412]
had anticipated
[414]
still a lot of people go back to those
[415]
obama years now of course he came in in
[417]
the middle
[418]
of a big big recession and the numbers
[421]
improved but it was
[422]
steady growth and the obama folks come
[425]
back
[425]
joe biden comes back and says um we
[428]
created a hell of a lot of jobs we were
[430]
down in near depression territory and we
[432]
we we created a lot more activity than
[435]
this
[436]
a president is stuck with right now how
[438]
do you think the president
[440]
should respond to that because he's
[442]
already addressed the you know the the
[445]
capitalism issue the sheryl capitalism
[447]
it's a nasty word
[448]
but there is a strategy here to say uh
[451]
where about you america we don't talk
[454]
about the stock market it's advanced
[456]
we talk about things that matter to you
[459]
um
[460]
how do they counter that well
[463]
uh the facts uh of course we don't
[466]
believe the facts anymore
[468]
uh a lot of what we read in the papers
[470]
the media
[471]
unfortunately is uh is not a media
[475]
that gives facts the facts are that
[478]
jobs weren't plentiful the fact is the
[481]
gdp was down
[483]
eight years is eight years oh trump is
[486]
in office for three years
[488]
and in three years we've seen the
[490]
dramatic chain
[491]
how did it happen it's not let's look at
[494]
a
[494]
deal first thing he did was lower taxes
[498]
that's number one number two he killed
[501]
regulations
[502]
and in killing regulations and lowering
[504]
taxes he created more jobs in america
[507]
look reagan proved this point yeah you
[510]
know you have to be really
[511]
stupid not to go back in history and by
[514]
the way
[514]
we try to keep history out of our
[516]
schools today we don't want people to
[518]
understand history
[520]
but history repeats itself over and over
[522]
again
[523]
and we know that when you raise taxes
[526]
and when you start putting in
[527]
regulations
[528]
you're going to kill the economy now
[530]
that's a very
[532]
fundamental thing that economists even
[535]
left-wing economists
[536]
have to agree on so i i think that trump
[539]
has to stay on that that message
[542]
uh look it's not a question of me
[544]
supporting trump
[545]
i'm supporting economic i'm very
[547]
concerned about the american economy
[549]
i'm concerned about people who are
[551]
worried about paying
[552]
it paying their uh for food paying their
[555]
rent paying for their cars
[557]
uh they need the jobs desperately and so
[560]
this is not a republican or a democratic
[563]
thing that i'm talking about i'm talking
[565]
about the real world
[566]
in the real world today people in the
[569]
middle class
[570]
are getting hammered of course the
[572]
middle and lower class
[574]
are getting hammered together so we have
[576]
to get back
[577]
into creating jobs and if we don't
[579]
create jobs
[580]
the economy is going to be dead it's as
[582]
simple as that it's not a it's not a
[584]
it's not a a rocket scientist type thing
[589]
all right bernie um you got to learn to
[592]
speak your mind more because i never
[593]
quite know
[594]
where you're coming from my friend um
[596]
always good have you have a wonderful
[598]
weekend
[599]
bernie mark it's a true american success
[601]
story uh
[602]
start at home depot ken langdon as i
[604]
said many times neither even knew which
[606]
end of a hammer to use
[608]
and and get handy though they were not
[610]
um they were pretty successful at that
[612]
and that guy uh decided to put one of
[614]
the world's most highly regarded
[616]
aquariums
[617]
in atlanta yeah it's a little inland
[621]
but he said you know what atlanta should
[623]
have one
[624]
now it does one of the world's best that
[627]
my friends
[628]
is shareholder capitalism
