[1]
- [Jake] 2022 Looks to be a much stronger year overall
[4]
for game releases, so today, like every year,
[7]
we're breaking it down in two parts.
[9]
Here are 10 or so games releasing in the first half of 2022
[13]
that we're really looking forward to.
[16]
Starting off with number 10, "Tiny Tina's Wonderlands."
[19]
We've talked about this one already quite a bit,
[21]
since it was just announced a few months ago.
[23]
Essentially what this is a big blowout
[26]
of previous "Borderlands" DLC
[28]
that played with this whole concept of Tiny Tina,
[31]
the zany side character,
[33]
doing her own kind of fantasy adventure tabletop game.
[36]
So here, what you have is a new "Borderlands" game
[39]
set in a completely different environment
[41]
with a kind of medieval, weird, mystical fantasy vibe to it.
[44]
The weapon types seem totally different.
[46]
The enemies seem totally different.
[48]
Just the overall flow and loop of the game and the map
[50]
seems to be different and more fantasy RPG-focused.
[54]
And it already looks like it's gonna be fun.
[55]
If you're a "Borderlands" fan,
[56]
you're probably digging what you're seeing.
[58]
If you're not a "Borderlands" fan,
[59]
the humor might still rub you the wrong way,
[62]
but props to them for doing something different here.
[64]
As of right now,
[65]
"Tiny Tina's Wonderlands" is releasing March 25th, 2022.
[71]
Next, over at number nine, we have "Gran Turismo 7.
[73]
Yes, Polyphony Digital is working on another one.
[76]
It's been quite some time.
[78]
They very much take their time.
[79]
But it looks like "Gran Turismo 7" is continuing the trend
[82]
of just really upping all the stakes:
[84]
more cars, crazier graphics, more options,
[88]
more details overall, more fine-tuning.
[90]
And we love to see it.
[92]
Honestly, we're always excited when a PlayStation console
[94]
gets graced with one of these really awesome games.
[97]
These are, if you haven't played them,
[98]
more hardcore simulation-focused,
[100]
so don't expect a lot of personality and fun
[103]
and doing crazy jumps.
[104]
No, this is hardcore realism, real car stuff.
[108]
So while there is a world for arcade racers,
[109]
we have a blast with stuff like "Forza Horizon"
[112]
and all that, the Gran Turismo series takes things
[114]
a bit more seriously,
[115]
so if you're a hardcore car enthusiast,
[117]
hopefully, you'll be happy with this one.
[119]
So far, it's looked pretty good.
[121]
As much as some of the updates sound like small things,
[124]
it could just make for a really good,
[126]
fun, gorgeous car game.
[127]
And you know? That's all we're really looking for.
[129]
That's releasing, as of right now, March 4th, 2022.
[134]
Next, over at number eight,
[135]
we have "Pokemon Legends: Arceus."
[137]
I think that's how you pronounce it.
[138]
I'm bad at pronunciation.
[139]
But this is the big one, folks.
[141]
If you've been looking for a Pokemon game
[143]
where you can run around a big 3D open world
[146]
and catch Pokemon and battle, here you go.
[149]
I mean, granted, they've kind of dabbled with it before,
[151]
but this is the blown-out, crazy one.
[153]
There has been criticism already for its graphics.
[156]
For me, I just look at that as kind of like the limitations
[158]
of the Nintendo Switch.
[159]
Still, to have a fully 3D Pokemon game on the Switch
[162]
is pretty exciting.
[164]
The possibilities are high,
[166]
especially considering this serves
[167]
as kind of like a preqeal story.
[169]
It's in an older era of the Sinnoh region,
[171]
and it's actually called something different.
[173]
It was called the Hisui region,
[174]
so it's kind of got this weird,
[176]
kind of old-timey Pokemon feel to it.
[178]
You're still a guy or a girl with a cool hat and a jacket,
[181]
but there's a slight ancient vibe to it,
[183]
and it's really cool.
[184]
We're gonna be seeing new Pokemon, new trainers,
[186]
new ways to fight,
[187]
and most importantly, new ways to explore.
[190]
There's a lot more going on in this one.
[191]
If you're a diehard Pokemon fan, I suggest diving deep
[194]
because some of the info we do have is pretty cool
[197]
for how it shakes up the formula other than just it's 3D.
[200]
But thankfully, we won't have to wait too long
[202]
to really see how it is.
[203]
As of right now, it's releasing January 28th, 2022.
[208]
Next, over at number seven, we have "Sons of the Forest."
[211]
This is the long awaited followup to "The Forest,"
[214]
which was a survival game
[215]
with some really hardcore horror elements to it
[218]
and just some good stuff.
[220]
"Sons of the Forest," interestingly enough,
[222]
is hotly anticipated by "Forest" fans,
[224]
but we don't know too much about it.
[227]
It does look to be like a kind of new spin
[229]
on what the original set up.
[231]
You're once again stranded, you're using items,
[233]
you're building shelter, and you're defending yourself
[236]
from really creepy forest creatures.
[238]
I actually like that they haven't shown off this game
[240]
too much.
[241]
I prefer the kind of less-is-more style,
[243]
especially for a game where you might already be like,
[246]
yeah, I'll check that out regardless.
[247]
Because they've been so dark for so long and so quiet,
[249]
I'm hoping that they took the money from the original game
[252]
and really went hard here
[254]
and are gonna give us something absolutely amazing.
[257]
That's, of course, just me armchair speculating,
[259]
but there's some cool potential.
[261]
And we'll find out if that release date holds,
[263]
because right now, it's set for May 20th, 2022.
[267]
Now, next over at number six, we have "Sifu."
[269]
This is my personal most anticipated pick,
[272]
just because of how cool it looks.
[274]
I love games like this,
[275]
especially from developer Slow Clap.
[278]
These are the people behind "Absolver,"
[280]
which was a pretty intense game
[281]
with a hand-to-hand fighting system and a lot of challenge.
[285]
This seemingly takes that gameplay framework,
[287]
that combat system,
[289]
and applies it to a different style of game.
[291]
There seems to be this mechanic where every time you die,
[293]
you come back older,
[294]
but just what they have going on here with the fight scenes,
[297]
the way you can grapple and counter and fight enemies
[300]
and use objects in the environment
[302]
or use the environment itself to win
[305]
seems so, so satisfying.
[307]
If you've played "Absolver,"
[308]
you know that combat system absolutely hits.
[311]
Even if the rest of the game was just kind of like eh,
[314]
that combat system is top-tier,
[315]
so for them to use that again and hopefully expand on it
[319]
makes me just absolutely bet on this game.
[322]
Next, over at number five, we have "Forspoken,"
[325]
which is a Square Enix action-adventure RPG
[329]
that obviously looks like a really gorgeous tech demo,
[332]
but is starting to reveal itself as a full game.
[334]
At the time of making this video,
[336]
a bunch of new gameplay videos have dropped
[338]
and it seems interesting.
[340]
It's still a bit too early to tell,
[342]
but the concept of you just kind of being a regular girl
[344]
thrust into this weird fantasy world
[347]
and using these cool powers,
[348]
it's kind of almost like "Infamous,"
[350]
but you're a mage casting magic, seems pretty cool,
[353]
not to mention the fact that just the visual style,
[356]
the dialogue, the music, the art direction,
[359]
all of that seems to be top-tier, big-budget, AAA stuff.
[362]
We're just hoping that the actual meat of the game,
[364]
the gameplay, the exploration, and that story,
[366]
can really live up to what on the surface looks pretty cool.
[370]
"Forspoken" is releasing on PC and PS5.
[373]
As of right now, the news reports
[374]
that it is a two-year PlayStation exclusive,
[377]
and we'll be playing that May 24th, 2022.
[382]
Next, over at number four,
[383]
we have "S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chernobyl."
[386]
Now, the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R." series
[387]
is an absolutely legendary PC series.
[391]
It's what a lot of PC gamers think of immediately
[393]
when you think of the early 2000s games
[396]
and just how it pioneered open-world, survival-horror,
[400]
resource management stuff
[402]
in a fun post-nuclear-disaster world.
[405]
And it seems like they're doing it again,
[407]
but this time, with a crazy budget and sick graphics.
[410]
Recent videos with this thing running in Unreal Engine 5
[413]
look absolutely insane.
[416]
We've seen little glimpses of gameplay with some combat
[418]
versus human and mystical, otherworldly things,
[422]
including weapon attachments, using items.
[425]
And if this is anything at all
[427]
like the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s,
[428]
it should make for a really tense experience,
[431]
and now thankfully, it has the graphics
[433]
and really the mood and the atmosphere
[435]
to really fill in the blanks
[437]
and sell what made the original game so special.
[440]
There's still time to play the originals if you never have,
[442]
but we'll know for sure if this one is legit
[444]
when we play it April 28th, 2022.
[448]
Next, over number three, of course,
[449]
you know we were gonna mention it, "Dying Light 2."
[452]
After so many delays,
[453]
it seems like they finally got it locked in,
[455]
and the long story short,
[457]
the reason why we're excited for "Dying Light 2"
[459]
is because we like the original game so much.
[462]
Not only was it just a good old, solid,
[464]
adventure open-world game
[465]
that kind of took the zombie formula
[467]
and spun it on its head, but it was also supported
[469]
with a ton of cool post-release content,
[471]
and it was like the game gift that kept on giving.
[475]
Now, with "Dying Light 2,"
[476]
it seems like it's taking that fun core gameplay framework
[479]
with the parkour and the action and the violence
[483]
and adding a lot more RPG and story elements to it,
[485]
you making decisions on how to help out
[488]
these micro-civilizations that have cropped up
[491]
after the viral outbreak.
[492]
It looks like it's very much trying to do ambitious things
[494]
with your decisions and who you help and what you do
[497]
will actually change how the societies
[499]
or these factions work.
[500]
Not to mention the parkour move set has also been upgraded,
[503]
and there's only melee weapons.
[505]
There's no emphasis on guns
[506]
because we're so far past the original outbreak
[509]
that things are kind of broken down now.
[511]
We're pretty pumped.
[512]
We've talked this one to death, and thankfully, hopefully,
[514]
we'll finally be playing it February 4th, 2022.
[518]
Now, down to number two, we have "Horizon Forbidden West."
[521]
Now, this just looks like an absolute blowout
[524]
compared to "Horizon Zero Dawn."
[526]
It looks like they're taking everything,
[527]
but making it bigger, badder, and crazier.
[530]
As you can see here,
[531]
the combat and the action looks absolutely stunning.
[534]
The amount of destruction,
[536]
the amount of destruction to the enemies,
[538]
the enemy types themselves, the speed of it all,
[541]
seems really cool, not to mention the beauty of the world.
[543]
It's Aloy on a new adventure, new regions, new cultures,
[548]
and apparently, more of an emphasis on questing and towns
[552]
and RPG stuff that we love.
[554]
Apparently, NPCs are gonna be much more interesting
[557]
this time around.
[557]
Me personally, I liked "Horizon Zero Dawn" quite a bit,
[561]
but I didn't love it head over heels.
[563]
This one seems like it's really gonna take it
[565]
to the next level.
[566]
Thankfully, we won't have to wait too long, either.
[568]
It's releasing February 18th, 2022.
[572]
Now, finally at number one, of course, it's "Elden Ring."
[576]
What more can you say about this long-anticipated game
[579]
from FromSoftware, the people behind "Demon's Souls,"
[583]
"Dark Souls," "Bloodborne," "Sekiro"?
[585]
This is their next big thing,
[587]
and it's very much taking the Soulsborne formula
[589]
and framework and putting it in an open-world setting.
[592]
And from what we've seen so far,
[594]
it doesn't look like they're half-assing it.
[596]
It doesn't just look like "Dark Souls,"
[597]
but in an open world.
[598]
The way they've talked about
[599]
how they're designing the bosses and how the flow works
[602]
from the open world into dungeons
[604]
seems to be pretty creative and also freeform,
[607]
giving you a lot of choice.
[609]
There's a jump button now, which is insane
[611]
and really changes things up.
[612]
The summons look cool.
[614]
Everything about this game looks cool.
[615]
If you're a fan of these games,
[616]
if you're a fan of FromSoftware, there's really...
[619]
I can't say anything.
[620]
There's nothing that you don't already know
[622]
or there's nothing else to get you excited.
[624]
You either know, or you don't know.
[626]
You're in, or you're out.
[627]
Fingers crossed there's no more delays on this one
[629]
and really every single other game in this list.
[631]
But "Elden Ring" is releasing for all the major consoles
[634]
on February 25th, 2022.
[637]
But we also got some bonus games for you worth mentioning.
[640]
Of course, "Destiny 2" is getting
[642]
the "Witch Queen" update/expansion, February, 2022.
[647]
"CrossfireX," the first-person shooter,
[649]
big in Asian territories, now with a campaign,
[653]
is releasing on Xbox consoles, February 10th, 2022.
[657]
We're also getting "The King of Fighters XV"
[659]
on all major platforms, February 17th, 2022.
[664]
And the weird classic sci-fi game actually got a sequel.
[667]
"Elex II" is releasing March 1st, 2022.
[671]
But those are the 2022 games
[673]
that we're really looking forward to
[674]
for the first half of the year.
[676]
Now, when we talk about the next half of the year,
[679]
the fall season, things are gonna get probably even crazier,
[683]
but for now, this first half is looking pretty good.
[685]
So we want to hear from you guys in the comments
[687]
what you're digging the most.
[688]
If you got your own top five most anticipated,
[690]
be sure to drop it in the comments.
[692]
We love seeing that stuff.
[693]
But if this video helped you out, informed you,
[695]
clicking the Like button's all you gotta do.
[696]
It really helps us out a lot,
[698]
and we would very much appreciate that.
[699]
But hey, as always, thanks for watching,
[701]
and we'll see you guys next time.
