Channel: unknown

[0]
how's it going today guys I hope you're
[1]
having a fantastic day so in this video
[3]
here we're going to be doing an in-depth
[5]
review of the Robin Hood app and if you
[7]
guys are curious about different
[8]
investing platforms out there and you're
[11]
doing your research I've linked up down
[12]
in the description below all the
[14]
different review videos I have done so
[16]
far on this channel so I do encourage
[18]
you to shop around look at the different
[20]
options out there and really consider
[22]
the features and benefits of each
[24]
investing platform and then figuring out
[27]
which one really best suits your needs
[29]
now Robin Hood captures a lot of
[31]
attention because it is completely free
[33]
$0 Commission zero dollar minimum
[35]
account balance so you could literally
[37]
open up an account fund it with ten
[39]
dollars and start investing in stocks so
[42]
there's a lot of appeal to this but what
[44]
I really want to make sure you guys
[45]
understand is that it is a very limited
[48]
platform and that's kind of what we're
[49]
gonna get into here is the pros and the
[51]
cons of this platform why I like this
[54]
platform and also why I'm not such a fan
[56]
of this platform at the same time now
[59]
like I do with all of my reviews I do
[61]
have a pin comment down below with a
[63]
timestamp for the different sections so
[65]
if you guys are looking to skip ahead in
[67]
this review that is a pin comment down
[69]
below where you can jump ahead to a
[70]
separate section but first of all let's
[73]
talk about what Robin Hood actually is
[75]
Robin Hood is a free trading app out
[77]
there that has really ballooned in
[79]
popularity it allows you to invest in
[81]
stocks ETFs as well as crypto currencies
[85]
and options now the cryptocurrency piece
[88]
is still limited to certain states in
[90]
the United States so if you are looking
[92]
to invest in cryptocurrency through
[94]
Robin Hood you're going to want to make
[96]
sure it is currently available in your
[97]
state beyond that Robin Hood is a very
[100]
basic investment platform it is a 100%
[103]
online platform meaning there are no
[105]
physical storefront locations so I'm
[108]
sure you guys have seen the Charles
[110]
Schwab or fidelity locations around
[112]
where you can go to a branch office or
[114]
you can call someone up on the phone
[116]
with Robin Hood it is completely
[118]
electronic and online and so this right
[121]
here might be a con for some people the
[123]
fact that you can't call someone up on
[125]
the phone or you can't stop into a
[126]
branch location to talk to someone and
[129]
but the really the difference here is
[130]
the fact that you're not paying anything
[132]
with the traditional online discount
[135]
brokers you're paying a fee for
[136]
Commission and they have a minimum
[138]
account balance that is more or less
[140]
what Robin Hood eliminated but by
[142]
eliminating that fee structure they are
[143]
not able to offer you know the personal
[146]
attention that you might get through
[148]
your other brokerage account where you
[149]
can call someone on the phone or stop
[151]
into a branch location so what can you
[153]
invest in using the Robin Hood app first
[155]
of all you can invest in publicly traded
[157]
stocks or ETFs on the New York Stock
[160]
Exchange or the Nasdaq so right off the
[162]
bat that tells you that you cannot
[163]
invest in penny stocks you can't invest
[166]
in foreign stocks unless they trade
[167]
through a DRS and you can't invest in
[171]
stocks on the over-the-counter exchanges
[173]
you can also invest in cryptocurrency
[175]
through the Robin Hood app if it's
[177]
available in your state and currently
[179]
this includes Bitcoin Bitcoin cash
[181]
dogecoin ethereum ethereum classic and
[184]
litecoin and Robin Hood also now allows
[187]
you to buy and sell options free of
[189]
charge
[189]
so what this means is that there are no
[192]
mutual funds available on Robin Hood and
[194]
there are no penny stocks or
[196]
over-the-counter stocks moving on now
[198]
what are the fees associated with a
[199]
Robin Hood account and what are the
[201]
requirements well the only requirements
[203]
is that you do have to be a u.s.
[205]
investor 18 and up but beyond that there
[208]
are no fees associate with Robin Hood it
[210]
is completely free no minimum account
[212]
balance and no Commission cost for
[214]
trading and you might be asking yourself
[216]
well how does Robin Hood make money what
[218]
they do is they offer a feature called
[220]
Robin Hood gold where you are offered
[222]
margin you can buy stocks on margin and
[224]
you can also have after hours or
[227]
extended hours trading and you also have
[229]
the availability to have instant
[232]
settlement with your funds rather than
[233]
waiting for funds settlement when you
[235]
are selling your position typically you
[237]
would have to wait for those funds to
[238]
settle to withdraw them or to reinvest
[241]
them but Robin Hood can offer that
[243]
instant settlement with their Gold
[244]
Package so that is how Robin Hood is
[246]
actually making money okay so what are
[248]
the pros of this platform there are
[250]
pretty much two of them that I see first
[252]
of all it's 100% free which really
[255]
lowers the barriers to entry to get
[257]
started with investing traditionally if
[259]
you wanted to open an investing account
[261]
it might be a $500 or $1000 minimum
[264]
balance but with Robin Hood
[265]
zero dollars you can get started with
[267]
pretty much nothing
[268]
the second Pro for them is the fact that
[270]
it has a very simple interface pretty
[273]
much anybody can jump on there get
[274]
started and understand what it is they
[277]
are doing but that in and of itself is
[279]
also a con because the platform is
[282]
extremely basic and for any investor out
[285]
there that's really doing a lot of
[286]
research you're going to be extremely
[288]
limited by this platform so that right
[290]
there is the first con I see for Robin
[292]
Hood that platform is extremely basic
[293]
and I have used Robin Hood before I
[296]
still have some investments with Robin
[298]
Hood but what I would find is I was
[299]
doing all of my investment research on
[302]
other platforms or other websites and I
[304]
was only using Robin Hood to buy and
[306]
sell my shares and I really would rather
[308]
have the ability to do that all in one
[311]
place where I'm on an app that allows me
[313]
to do research and learn about
[314]
investments and then do my transactions
[316]
as well another con for some is the fact
[319]
that Robin Hood does not offer mutual
[321]
funds so if you are looking to invest in
[323]
mutual funds you are not going to be
[325]
able to do that through Robin Hood now a
[327]
big con is the fact that they do not
[329]
offer retirement accounts and this right
[331]
here is a huge problem in my opinion
[333]
because you cannot open any type of
[335]
retirement accounts you can't do the
[337]
self-directed Roth IRA or a traditional
[340]
IRA through Robin Hood and I think a lot
[343]
of people don't understand the
[344]
difference here between investing
[346]
through a retirement account where you
[347]
can be tax sheltered or investing
[349]
through a traditional brokerage account
[351]
where you're paying taxes and you're
[353]
paying at the maximum rate in some cases
[355]
so really educate yourself on investing
[357]
through retirement accounts if you are a
[359]
long term investor especially as a young
[361]
person and understand the advantage of
[364]
investing in being able to do so through
[366]
a retirement account another con is that
[368]
Robin Hood does not offer a trip or
[370]
dividend reinvestment plan a lot of
[373]
other brokerage accounts out there allow
[375]
you to reinvest your dividends
[376]
automatically and Robin Hood does not do
[379]
this another kind is also the fact that
[381]
you can only purchase whole shares of
[383]
stock on Amazon so there are no
[385]
fractional or partial shares available
[387]
and one platform that does offer both of
[390]
these things they offer a drip and they
[392]
also offer fractional shares is m1
[395]
finance this is also a completely free
[397]
platform
[398]
and I'm gonna link up the review to this
[400]
as well if you guys are on the fence
[402]
between Robin Hood and maybe something
[404]
else I would highly recommend taking a
[406]
look at em one finance because in my
[408]
opinion that is a superior platform and
[411]
everyone finance is my favorite
[412]
investing platform out there for
[414]
beginners who are not looking to pay for
[416]
commissions when they are trading so
[418]
that review is linked up down in the
[419]
description below another con is that
[421]
there are no pre-built portfolios with
[423]
Robin Hood's so you can't really go on
[425]
there and start investing in a portfolio
[427]
that was built by somebody else they're
[429]
putting all that power in your hands to
[431]
decide what you're going to be investing
[433]
in and you also really can't build a
[435]
portfolio or automate that process at
[437]
all you can't automate deposits into
[439]
your account you can't automate
[441]
investments really it's as basic as it
[444]
gets here with this Robin Hood platform
[445]
and that is the advantage is that some
[447]
of these other platforms offer out there
[449]
it's the fact that you can automate your
[451]
contributions or automate your
[452]
investments or automatically reinvest
[455]
those dividends that are paid out by the
[456]
stocks you're investing in and then the
[459]
fourth con is that Robin Hood only
[460]
offers the very basic order types if you
[463]
are somebody who's looking for the more
[464]
complex order types you're gonna want to
[466]
look somewhere else but for the most
[468]
part these order types are all you would
[470]
need as a beginner so moving on who is
[472]
Robin Hood for and who is it not for
[474]
Robin Hood is a good platform for
[476]
beginners who are looking for a very
[478]
basic investment platform but like I
[481]
said I would recommend doing your due
[482]
diligence looking around at a couple of
[484]
different platforms particularly m-1
[487]
finance who is Robin Hood not for it is
[490]
really not good for the
[491]
research-oriented investor if you're
[493]
looking for candlestick charts if you're
[495]
looking for more information about
[497]
companies if you're looking to do
[498]
fundamental analysis you really can't do
[501]
any of that here with the Robin Hood app
[503]
you're going to have to do that on
[505]
different platforms and you're probably
[507]
going to be disappointed with that very
[508]
basic platform but understand that is
[511]
what Robin Hood was built for it was
[513]
meant to be the most basic and simple
[514]
investing platform out there and so I'm
[517]
really not saying it's a bad platform it
[519]
was just built to be very basic for
[522]
beginners and if you're a little bit
[523]
more advanced as far as investing goes
[526]
then you're probably not going to be
[527]
happy with Robin Hood but anyways guys
[530]
that's going to wrap up this video that
[531]
is my opinion of
[532]
Robin Hood app let me know what you
[534]
think down in the comment section below
[535]
but thank you so much for watching this
[537]
video and I will see you in the next one
