Don't think that after getting Tier 3 College your life is wasted
[2]
I started my journey from Infosys with just 50,000 rs salary in Hyderabad
[8]
I got a severe back problem and I could not sit
[11]
I applied to Sales Force job multiple times but always got rejected
[14]
My parents always said that get a government job and everything will be sorted
[17]
Then even if you are at a clerk's position , doesn't matter
[23]
My father was totally surprised
[27]
Many people will get to know this after watching this video
[31]
Hey Guys! I am Nishant Chahar , a software engineer from Microsoft
[34]
Today with us we have Mr.Naman Kaushik and is currently a SMTS
[38]
SMTS stands for senior member of technical staff
[41]
Earlier he was working with Infosys then Deloitte now at Sales Force
[50]
In today's video we'll discuss about various topics like Service based company and product based company
[56]
Apart from that , how did he prepare for this , how did he manage time, etc.
[62]
And what is his current job role
[65]
Before starting the video I will quickly give a short introduction about him
[71]
So , Naman can you briefly introduce yourself ?
[75]
Firstly thanks for having me here . I have seen your videos. They are quite inspiring
[81]
I did my B.Tech in Computer Science from HRITM which was a proper Tier-3 College
[90]
Over there we had Service Company Giants in the placement pool
[98]
I was campus placed at Infosys and I was trained at Mysore for around 4.5 Months and got job location in Pune
[108]
I worked there for 1.5 years and then moved to Deloitte , Hyderabad and worked there for almost 2.5 years
[119]
And then I moved to Sales Force and I have been here now for more than 2 Years
[126]
So you have worked in both a A Service Based Company as well as a Product Based Company
[134]
So what's the major difference in working, culture, job, etc?
[141]
So when I started at Infosys I was a complete fresher and since it was a Service Giant , we did not get any great tasks
[152]
Work culture was completely different . Job was completely different.
[159]
I was working with a Insurance Client so it was majorly a support task
[166]
And we had to sit in ODCs where we are not allowed to carry phones and just sit with the machines they provide
[176]
Then I realised that Deloitte has better service culture and I had some independence .
[185]
But our work was majorly for clients
[189]
So that depends on client to client
[191]
If we compare product company to a service company , the biggest difference is that employees have their independence
[204]
Whereas in Service based , we have to follow procedures and there are long e-mail chains and deadlines are again client specific
[219]
which I think is okay according to their business model
[221]
In product based , we are controllers of the service we are providing.
[229]
I f I am working for a user story
[232]
So here for example I can take 3 hours or 3 days which is fine . So inshort we are the in-charge there.
[245]
Here your opinion matters to the team , stakeholders and also there is huge difference in culture
[260]
Also we have freedom to chose working hours. Infosys was great ,
[266]
Deloitte was super-great and now Sales Force is at another level
[271]
Before we resume I would like to tell to the coding enthusiasts that there is 20% off link in the description box.
[280]
Do check it out
[281]
Coding Ninja has various courses like Android Development , Web Development , Machine Learning, C++, Java, Python
[290]
The mentors are from Stanford , IIT, who have worked in MNCs like Facebook, Amazon,
[296]
The overall course curriculum is great . Even I did a course and my experience was amazing
[304]
There are also hint videos to solve doubts and also there is facility of one on one mentoring to resolve doubts.
[323]
So my next question is how did you prepare because you had a full-time job so how did you manage time
[336]
That's a great question because many service-based employees don't know how to manage time
[344]
Or does IT give you high salaries . In fact 3 years back it was a massive thing for myself.
[356]
Many of my friends used to refer someone or the other who were working in Giants
[362]
and earning great numbers and at that time it was unreal for me
[366]
I was applying at Amazon , Microsoft . But I never got any calls or replies
[375]
In 2019, around 20th Feb, when I was in Hyderabad . Over there I was discussing something wit my friend Neel
[401]
And I just said that I want a 12 L package.
[406]
Neel had many friends working in Amazon so he used to tell me their stories.
[413]
But on that day he took me seriously and so he told me how to reach that level, prepare, and few other things.
[427]
So we decided to stay in the office after hours and we will study.
[442]
I had studied data structures in Infosys but I did not know all small bits of it.
[460]
Or like where to use which structure or how to implement. I was good in doing logics.
[464]
We realised that we cannot study with this speed. Also my parents were persuading me for marriage.
[478]
And I knew that you cannot sustain in city like Hyderabad with just 50,000 Rs Salary
[484]
So it was a truth for me
[486]
So I had to do something and again some personnel motivation was there
[489]
They used to teach Data Structures and designs
[492]
So we joined weekend course there
[495]
That lets study Data Structure
[498]
And at that time I was injured
[500]
Means I got a severe back spasm and I could not sit
[503]
Like for seven, eight months I could not sit
[506]
I used to stand in the office whole day
[509]
My hamstrings were so tight that I could not run properly
[511]
And after coming to flat, I used to use that rod bed
[516]
Or even ice pack just to calm my pain
[518]
Stuff like that
[520]
But weekends were like, I had to go class. I used to go to class after having painkillers
[524]
And then there we used to study Data structures and all and then after coming home, assignments and all
[529]
So we started doing assignments after staying back in office
[532]
And I used to stand all the time because I was unable to sit
[536]
It was so painful at that time
[539]
Second way of earning money was leaving the country
[543]
So side ways maybe many people didn't know about it . Maybe they will get to know after this video
[547]
That Stack overflow is such a brilliant platform if you want to get a job abroad. Specially Europe
[553]
So I applied in many European companies there
[557]
So I gave interview of around twenty companies from Stack overflow itself
[566]
I got rejected from each one of them
[569]
Each one of them
[569]
But the thing was I was not afraid of rejection
[572]
I was like I will get to learn
[575]
And then I will be successful one day
[577]
And then It was happening. I cracked a German company
[580]
That's German Government firm
[583]
So they offered me around sixty thousand Euros at that time
[586]
And with a three year work on
[590]
Then I just cracked that
[592]
Just after that I cleared the rounds of an European EBI firm European Bioinformatics Institute that is based in Cambridge. So they called me to Cambridge for discussion
[602]
Sidewise the Sales Force process had started
[605]
I applied for Sales Forces for a tones of time but every time it got rejected
[608]
But this time one of my friend
[610]
I saw his Linkedin post that Sales force is hiring
[615]
So I pinned him on linkedin
[617]
That buddy just refer me
[619]
Maybe referral works
[620]
Lets try this time
[622]
And then it worked
[625]
They called me for an interview. They sent a hackerrank test link
[628]
That was some Java problem
[629]
It was kind of a small project that I had to complete on Hackerrank
[633]
So ya that got succeed
[634]
And that too had its ups and downs
[636]
Because that had several unit text cases failing for me
[640]
And I was like that my logic is absolutely correct
[643]
I am seeing everything in my local machine
[645]
But why the hell unit test cases are failing
[647]
So I wrote that in Hackerrank feedback as well
[652]
That my logic was absolutely correct. I can bet on that
[654]
But your unit test cases are failing due to certain things
[657]
But then
[658]
Sales Force has a very good policy and I think other companies might have it too
[664]
That only the tool is no the judge
[666]
There are people, there are software engineers that look the code and then judge
[671]
Whether there was some technical issue
[674]
Or the logic is correct of the candidate or not
[677]
So they found that my logic was correct
[680]
And the unit test cases were failing because of space errors
[683]
In the output window
[685]
So after almost twenty days
[689]
I had lost hope that I will get call
[691]
But then they called me
[693]
I guess September ending
[695]
That we liked your submission and we want to take the discussion further
[700]
And on the day of onsite interview
[703]
I had this German offer , I had already talks going on with this EBI firm from Cambridge
[708]
But still I was like that people will say that everyone can do after going abroad
[712]
Why not in India?
[714]
It was like that
[716]
At home parents also thinks that just take a government job. That is the biggest thing
[722]
Even become a clerk. That is a big thing
[724]
I got to listen that a lot
[727]
So I was like that I have come so far
[730]
And at that same time my hackerrank round of Amazon was also cleared
[734]
So that process was going to start
[736]
I was like that I had to crack one of these
[739]
On the Friday night of salesforce onsite interview I remember
[743]
We were partying till four AM
[746]
Like friends were there and they were all celebrating
[748]
That you will go to Germany after two months
[750]
And I also had applied for Visa for Germany
[752]
I had the Visa
[755]
It was clear that now I had to go to Germany
[756]
And we were partying till four
[759]
But when everyone left, I went to my room
[761]
And I was like tomorrow is interview. I should study at least something. Who knows what can come
[766]
I was studying some question about Graphs and complexities and all
[770]
Till six thirty AM I just gave them a glimpse
[774]
And then I had a sleep for almost one hour
[776]
And then I just went for the interview
[778]
Again I went to give interview after having painkiller
[780]
And luckily
[782]
Like there were two rounds of Data structure that day
[785]
And in second round they asked me the Graph theory and the concept was same that I read after four AM
[791]
That same day
[793]
I was like that man timing matters
[797]
I mean luck matters in interviews
[800]
Because Graph was my weakest point back then
[802]
But I had just read those things in the same morning so they were quite fresh in my mind
[807]
So I was quiet confident that I had done well
[810]
And ya after waiting for a week or so I was walking after lunch in my office itself
[820]
And then I got a call from HR of Sales Force that we liked your rounds and all
[826]
So we want to give you an offer . Do you have number in mind?
[829]
And I was literally that okay!
[832]
I had an offer from Sales Force
[834]
And they told that do you have any expectations in mind?
[838]
And I didn't have any at that time
[840]
I was overwhelmed that I got an offer from Sales Force
[843]
So I told the HR that give me some time I will call back
[846]
And then I looked at glass door
[849]
On glass door numbers were like around twenty six they provide to three years experience , four years experience. That were the numbers at that time
[856]
I asked Niel. He also told the same number that eighteen -nineteen they will give
[860]
But still I was not believing this
[862]
Because My pay was six and a half at that time
[866]
So I thought three hundred percent hike was a massive one
[868]
They would not give me that
[870]
But instead they offered me
[873]
They were just playing around with me
[876]
Just negotiating for fifteen as well
[878]
When I looked at the proposal mail
[880]
I was literally in tears that I was like that man I didn't expect this
[883]
I called my father that where are you?
[889]
I said wherever are you hold a wall
[893]
They asked me that what happened?
[894]
I said I got selected in a company
[896]
He didn't know the company name that they have offered like this
[900]
My father was like this much
[901]
I said yes
[903]
So that was a overwhelming moment for me
[907]
I showed it to my friends , flat mates and they were like had you ever thought that you will se this big number in your life?
[913]
I said no. I used to think that from today I would reach on twenty lakhs after five years
[917]
That was my aim
[918]
But in that one year so much happened. So that was literally amazing for me
[923]
Great!
[925]
The whole story and the whole journey is very inspiring and amazing
[929]
So Naman I just want to ask one last question to you
[932]
Any suggestions for the people who are working in service based companies or are in tier three colleges
[936]
Like any one or two tips or suggestions for them
[941]
So Guys and girls Do not think that you are useless if you are in tier three colleges
[948]
Do not think nothing gonna happen If you go to Infosys
[951]
I am telling you that TCS , Infosys are doing a great job
[953]
They are doing a great job that they are providing employment to tier three college students. They are providing us the base
[957]
That from where are entering in software world
[960]
Otherwise the population of India
[963]
The competition is increasing everyday
[965]
Now everyone takes IT
[966]
Most of the people are in IT or CS and even electronics people are coming to IT and Cs companies
[971]
So do not give up. Just pick your battles that keep struggling
[976]
Something will happen and do not afraid of rejections
[979]
That If I give interview in this company and fail, it will be my insult
[982]
So what happened? You will come out with some learning
[984]
You will come out with some learning and manage the time
[988]
Work from home has given so much time to people. So much platforms has come
[991]
There are so many youtubers now who guides people
[996]
That how to take certain concepts of data structures , How to study design
[999]
So it has become so easy
[1001]
And the industry is in a bubble right now
[1004]
That it is paying handsomely to those who are talented
[1008]
So do not give up. Manage your time that is the most important thing
[1011]
And do not listen to friends that only you will give ten lakhs, only you will get twenty lakhs
[1016]
When you will do it, then the same friends will say that you are an inspiration to us
[1021]
Hone your skills , work hard and believe in yourself
[1025]
Believe in yourself and keep going
[1028]
Something good will definitely happen
[1030]
So thank you so much
[1032]
So thank you so much Naman for taking out time. It was nice talking to you
[1036]
Nishant thank you so much for having me here
[1038]
I have watched your videos
[1039]
I have seen that how many children watch those videos
[1042]
Everybody needs inspiration and you are doing a great job buddy
[1047]
Hats off to you. Thank you so much
[1048]
