Channel: unknown

[0]
hello and welcome to explain like I'm five where聽 we're making it easy for you explaining crypto聽聽
[6]
concepts in simple terms and answering the聽 questions that we've all been asked by family聽聽
[10]
and friends about crypto i'm Jessica Walker and聽 on this episode i'm speaking to Benyamin Ahmed聽聽
[16]
a 12 year old coder and creator of the nft's weird聽 whales he'll be explaining nft's to parents before聽聽
[24]
we start guys please like the video and subscribe聽 to our channel to not miss any future videos
[35]
ben thank you so much for joining me today great聽 to have you here before we start i might just ask聽聽
[41]
you quickly to define to a parent what is an聽 nft so an nft stands for a non-fungible token聽聽
[49]
everybody understands the non in the token聽 parts but they struggle on the definition聽聽
[53]
of fungible so fungible means an item can be聽 replaceable consider money as a fungible item聽聽
[60]
if i give you 10 pounds and ask for it back in two聽 weeks you can give me any 10 pounds back however聽聽
[67]
if i give you an nft and ask you back in two聽 weeks you have to give me that exact nft back聽聽
[74]
the reason why nfts are blown up over the聽 last six months is because ownership of an nft聽聽
[80]
can easily easily be transferred and verified by聽 the blockchain nfts have started with artwork but聽聽
[88]
could soon move to music airline tickets passports聽 and even houses and cars creating an nft is known聽聽
[95]
as minting the easiest way to create a single nft聽 is to go on a platform like opensea or wearable聽聽
[102]
and upload your artwork pay the transaction聽 fees and list it for sale when you want to聽聽
[108]
mint multiple nfts like a collection of 10 000聽 avatar pictures the process is a bit more complex聽聽
[115]
and you usually need a developer to help you and聽 this is where you come in so you are a developer聽聽
[120]
yourself your dad taught you to code at a聽 really young age which is very impressive聽聽
[126]
so you've mentioned you might need a developer to聽 help you but technically for example i've got this聽聽
[131]
piece of paper here this says nft me if i gave聽 this to you ben as a developer could you turn聽聽
[137]
this into an nft so with nfts you need you usually聽 need a picture in a digital format so first of聽聽
[144]
all you need to send that picture to a digital聽 format that you can access on your computer you聽聽
[148]
then need to make your way over to website like聽 opensea or wearable and upload your artwork you聽聽
[155]
have to pay the transaction fees which can usually聽 usually be about 20 to 30 dollars quite expensive聽聽
[161]
the transaction fees are based on how busy the聽 network is once you pay the transaction fees you聽聽
[168]
have to list your nft for your required price and聽 then it's up on opensea and if someone sees it and聽聽
[174]
they would like to buy it they just click buy now聽 so i'm going to turn to you now and ask because聽聽
[178]
you've sold quite a lot of nfts to be precise聽 i think it's around 3350 so you've sold loads聽聽
[185]
what about buying nfts do you have many nfts and聽 what makes them so interesting to you what i find聽聽
[192]
interesting about nfts is that the artwork can聽 be fascinating you've seen with collections like聽聽
[197]
board apes they've hired really good artists聽 to make their avatar nft pictures i also find聽聽
[204]
it fascinating how you can easily transfer and聽 verify the ownership of an nft via the blockchain聽聽
[211]
it's not like normal pictures and artwork like聽 from artists like leonardo da vinci that sold in聽聽
[219]
real life recently the artwork salvator mundi sold聽 for 450 million dollars and later got questioned聽聽
[227]
for being a fake this would never happen within聽 nft with nft you can put a commission on the nft聽聽
[233]
so every time you sell that nft you get a聽 bit of money so with weird wells i put a聽聽
[239]
really low commission of 2.5 however some nft聽 collections have chosen to put commission at 10聽聽
[246]
wow okay and then every time that gets sold on聽 to someone else they'll get the artist will get聽聽
[252]
a commission of the sale so that makes sense then聽 for music artists as well for different people聽聽
[257]
that are different creators now i want to go back聽 to you and back to the nft space itself because聽聽
[263]
weird whales is the nfts that you've created聽 talk me through how you created them so i got聽聽
[269]
interested with the nft space and i looked at聽 nft collections such as crypto punks and board 8聽聽
[276]
and wanted to make my own nft collection i became聽 really fascinated so i learned more about nfts in聽聽
[283]
pixel art and created my own collection i聽 used an open source program to generate 3聽聽
[289]
350 whales and made a minting website and posted a聽 thread on twitter on how i was able to do this at聽聽
[298]
the age of 12. boring bananas kindly retweeted the聽 thread and the thread went viral it's true that is聽聽
[305]
how i found you on twitter as well ben i think聽 everyone that is in the crypto and energy space聽聽
[311]
loves the fact that you're 12 years old聽 with the help of your dad you learn how to聽聽
[316]
how to code and it's so interesting for聽 people that aren't already in the space聽聽
[320]
so if i go back to play in the role of a parent聽 now that's asking you about the wild world of nfts聽聽
[327]
and how much the industry is growing you were聽 inspired by crypto punks and i'm gonna ask you聽聽
[333]
what is what are crypto punks and how did you聽 find out about them i came across these characters聽聽
[338]
and was fascinated by them they motivated me to聽 develop my own weird world collection there are聽聽
[344]
exactly 10 000 of them each with their own unique聽 traits they are not the first nft collection but聽聽
[351]
very early and holds significant historic value聽 think of them as artworks of the crypto relations聽聽
[358]
if you're involved in the nft space at all now聽 you've probably seen the profile picture craze聽聽
[363]
that's going on with board apes cool cats well聽 punks were the first they inspired these movements聽聽
[370]
and that's why they're so important and we're聽 gonna be super super simple now because i think聽聽
[375]
as grandparents we've grown up you know with going聽 to the big banks on the high street you would go聽聽
[381]
to lloyd's bank or hsbc and they might not even聽 know the difference between centralized and聽聽
[387]
decentralized what would you say is decentralized聽 what does it mean decentralized mean there's no聽聽
[394]
company behind it if i wanted to send you 10聽 pounds it would have to go through a middleman聽聽
[400]
which is the bank however with decentralized it's聽 peer-to-peer only the only people involved is mean聽聽
[405]
you there's no middleman like the bank involved so聽 you can go straight through me to you without the聽聽
[411]
need for anyone else in the middle in between and聽 that's really interesting because you can also do聽聽
[415]
this with with nfts as well and i do want to ask聽 because i think the interesting thing for me when聽聽
[420]
i was looking into nfts it's not just artwork聽 you've mentioned passports airlines even the聽聽
[425]
twitter co-founder and ceo jack dorsey actually聽 created an nft of his first ever tweet and that聽聽
[431]
sold for 2.9 million dollars earlier this year so聽 it really has so much potential when it comes to聽聽
[437]
ownership i would love to ask you now if you were聽 explaining to me as a parent as a head teacher as聽聽
[443]
a teacher at school how i would go and buy an nft聽 and where would i go to even buy one to buy an聽聽
[450]
nft you need to go to platforms like open c or聽 wearable you need to create an account on a wallet聽聽
[457]
for example metamask you then need to transfer聽 some funds into that wallet and connect聽聽
[464]
your wallet which is basically like a digital聽 account with all your money in it and you have聽聽
[469]
to connect it to a platform like i mentioned open聽 c or wearable you then find your desired nft and聽聽
[475]
click buy now and pay the gas fees ben thank you聽 so much for joining me it's been such a pleasure聽聽
[481]
to hear your insights and just hear how much聽 you've got up to over the past few weeks thank聽聽
[486]
you so much for joining queen market cap on this聽 week's episode of explain to me like i'm five and聽聽
[491]
now guys i'm going to pass a challenge to everyone聽 that is watching please share this video with聽聽
