Best Places To Eat In Los Angeles: Taco Trucks & Restaurant Guide - YouTube
Channel: gunnarolla
[0]
- [Andrew] Los Angeles has some
[1]
of the best tacos in America
[3]
and today I'm teaming up
[4]
with Atiya from Foodism Magazine,
[6]
to take you through a
few of our favorite spots
[7]
to get them.
[9]
But what exactly makes a great taco?
[11]
We caught up with Chef Wes Avila,
[12]
of the famous Guerilla
Tacos in Los Angeles,
[14]
when he was in Toronto,
[16]
to show us how it's done.
[17]
In my opinion, what makes a perfect taco,
[20]
is a really good tortilla,
[21]
nice filling,
[22]
a spicy chili,
[23]
not too crazy,
[24]
and if the flavors invoke memories
[26]
and you remember the taco a year later,
[29]
it's probably gonna be a good taco.
[31]
Alright, I just had
[31]
an incredible taco dinner at Lisa Marie
[33]
but we're gonna continue
[33]
our adventure in Los Angeles, let's go!
[35]
(upbeat jazzy music)
[40]
Alright, I just checked
into the Freehand downtown.
[41]
This hotel is amazing.
[44]
(upbeat music)
[48]
Good morning.
[49]
Good morning.
[50]
Have you ever had tacos for breakfast?
[51]
I've never had tacos for breakfast.
[52]
Let's go give it a try.
[54]
For stop, Homestate.
[55]
The ultimate spot to get Texas-style,
[57]
lonestar cooking served on flour tortillas
[59]
made fresh before your eyes.
[61]
Breakfast tacos!
[62]
They've got an extensive
menu of anytime tacos,
[64]
but the breakfast tacos are
where they really shine.
[72]
That is really good.
[73]
I was really skeptical.
[75]
Tacos are probably not
something I want for breakfast
[77]
but melding all the breakfast ingredients,
[80]
it's the best of both worlds.
[81]
Next on our list is Guisados,
[83]
a really popular spot
[84]
that features a very extensive menu
[86]
of homestyle braises
on handmade tortillas,
[88]
all gluten free.
[90]
Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god.
[92]
Ready?
Ready to do it? Ah!
[95]
Listen, the taco's so full,
[96]
the ingredients can't stay inside.
[98]
Corn tortilla,
[99]
juicy shrimp,
[100]
(worker yelling)
[102]
friendly service (giggles).
[104]
It's pretty thick.
[105]
I think it could be pretty
filling, pretty fast.
[107]
- [Atiya] Yeah, like, probably
best to just get two.
[109]
- [Andrew] Now we're heading to Salazar.
[110]
If you're looking for Mexican
barbecue loaded tacos,
[113]
and a patio that's fun day or night,
[115]
this is your spot.
[116]
- [Server] Here you go
guys, Salazar tacos.
[119]
Oh my god, this is so much meat.
[121]
The most meat.
[123]
He warned us that they were small tacos
[125]
but they're loaded.
[126]
I could probably eat two or three.
[128]
Op! (giggles)
[130]
Have you seen Mrs. Doubtfire?
[131]
You know the scene where she just,
[133]
she's wearing a mask?
(laughs) Yes!
[134]
That's what happened right there.
[135]
Time to head to our next spot, downtown.
[137]
Alright, we're heading to
B.S. Taqueria downtown.
[139]
B.S. Taqueria fuses tradition
with a contemporary approach.
[143]
The results is a quickie menu
[144]
with some really big tacos.
[146]
Fish taco!
[148]
I love this shell.
[149]
- [Atiya] It's like a hard taco.
[149]
- [Andrew] Yeah, it's
like a hard taco shell.
[151]
Very crunchy and juicy.
[152]
- [Andrew] Got a little bit of a kick.
[153]
- [Atiya] Very big.
[154]
Good size portion.
[155]
I feel, almost, like I
could be okay with this one.
[158]
Okay, you sick of tacos yet?
[160]
Not yet.
[160]
Good, cause we're just
getting started, let's go!
[163]
Let's take a trip east of Los Angeles,
[165]
where you'll find a
plethora of taco joints,
[167]
starting with Colonia Tacos Guisados,
[169]
which has a ton of different taco options.
[172]
First of all, love that
this taco has rice.
[175]
Shrimp, duck, fish, cauliflower.
[179]
- [Atiya] Which one are
you gonna have first?
[180]
- [Andrew] I don't know!
[181]
They all look so good.
[182]
I'm gonna try--
[182]
Which one do you like the most?
[184]
I mean, I love rice.
[185]
Asian, it's not a day without rice.
[187]
(laughs) Save that for last.
[188]
Okay, I'll try duck.
[189]
Cheers to you.
Cheers, cheers.
[191]
Cheers to you, here we go.
[195]
Nothing's falling out so, it's cleaner.
[198]
I would say too,
[200]
the ratio of filling to
tortilla is pretty good,
[203]
in that, it's not
overflowing with filling.
[207]
So it's not really messy.
[208]
Look, it's still clean.
[209]
- [Andrew] Taco Nazo has a
few locations in the east,
[211]
and their claim to fame
is their fish taco.
[214]
Let's give it a try.
[215]
[Drive Through Worker] Hi
welcome, can I help you?
[216]
Hi, can we get two fish tacos?
[218]
[Drive Through Worker] Two
fish tacos with everything?
[219]
Yes.
[220]
Andrew, are you ready
to eat some fish tacos?
[222]
So ready.
[223]
Fish tacos are my favorite
[224]
and this place is world famous.
[226]
- [Atiya] World famous
since 1978, very important.
[227]
Since '78.
[228]
Maybe before that
[230]
fish didn't exist.
[231]
Yeah, you know what?
[232]
I should invent a taco
[234]
and be the guy who invented,
[236]
just, any random thing in a tortilla.
[238]
I could invent a chocolate taco.
[241]
- [Both] A choco!
[244]
Patent that, patent that, 2017.
[247]
Look at that.
[248]
We got tacos on a platter.
[249]
10 points for presentation.
[251]
We got an entire hot pepper.
[252]
I was just gonna say,
[253]
can we acknowledge this huge pepper?
[255]
It's an entire fish!
[256]
I can't even, it won't wrap.
[261]
Oh my god, this is perfect!
[264]
The sauce, it's not a mayo.
[265]
What is it?
[266]
I don't know what it is.
Tarter?
[268]
I think it is a mayo actually.
[269]
I love the double tortilla thing going on.
[271]
Double tortilla,
[272]
we've got shredded lettuce,
[273]
there's just perfect combination
[275]
of different textures going on.
[276]
I would not dispute the claim
of world's best fish taco.
[280]
Oh my god, it's so good.
[281]
Alright, I'll let you keep eating.
[282]
We gotta get to our
next location, let's go!
[284]
In the east side you'll
find Mariscos Jalisco,
[286]
and iconic, classic Mexican food truck,
[288]
that offers some great
authentic sea food options.
[290]
Love that they gave us so
many limes for one taco.
[294]
Wow!
[296]
We got a tilapia.
[297]
We got some avocado, essential.
[300]
Shredded lettuce, onions, tomato.
[303]
It smells amazing.
[304]
Here we go, here we go,
here we go, here we go.
[307]
That is good!
[309]
Tacos here are legit.
[311]
Bit of a wait,
[312]
but we got them fresh, loaded.
[314]
I love it.
[315]
Made it to Petty Cash and
[317]
we brought some friends!
[319]
Hey guys!
[319]
Petty Cash Taqueria is a great spot
[321]
to meet up with a group of friends.
[323]
They've got drinks, tacos,
[324]
and make sure you don't skip on dessert.
[327]
One, two, three!
[332]
Choreographed biting.
[334]
Alright, we need to
take a break from tacos
[336]
so we got two desserts.
[338]
We got a tres leches cake
[341]
and bunuelos.
[342]
The sun may be setting
[343]
but our taco adventure continues.
[345]
Alright, we're downtown.
[346]
Time to find a night taco spot.
[348]
If you're looking for
a date spot downtown,
[350]
Chicas Tacos is like
something out of a movie.
[353]
But their tacos, probably,
[354]
aren't like anything you've seen before.
[357]
Okay, this taco looks like a Caesar salad.
[359]
I'm excited!
Taco time,
[360]
taco time, taco time!
[367]
The chef is looking at us, first of all,
[368]
and he's nodding his head in approval.
[370]
(laughter)
[371]
I was a little skeptical, really,
[373]
about the Caesar salad
thing but, nailed it!
[375]
Deep fried fish can be little bit heavy,
[377]
a little bit oily.
[378]
The Caesar salad makes it a complete meal.
[381]
Another great date spot is
Sky's Gourmet Tacos in mid-city.
[385]
They've got an incredibly extensive menu,
[387]
with some great seafood options.
[389]
We got our tacos,
[390]
but hot tip,
[391]
there's a neat little area back here.
[393]
Cheers!
[396]
- [Atiya] I'm happy with this one.
[397]
- [Andrew] It's kinda got
like a Cajun-type of taste.
[400]
It does, it does.
[400]
It has a lot of seasonings at the bottom.
[402]
I'm not sure if it's a jerk seasoning
[403]
or something like that.
[404]
The lobster in here, super juicy.
[406]
It's like all over my face.
[407]
Normally, when you try to get a lobster
[409]
or premium type of meat,
[411]
they skimp on it, right?
[412]
These are big, juicy pieces.
[414]
I'm impressed.
[415]
Our last spot is Leo's Tacos Truck,
[417]
known for it's al pastor taco,
[419]
featuring spit-grilled meat.
[421]
Just make sure you don't go overboard.
[423]
These are some of the most
affordable tacos we could find.
[425]
Hi, can I have one taco?
[429]
Alright, let's give it a try.
[432]
(large engine rumbling)
[435]
(laughs) That was my stomach!
[442]
I love schawarma.
[444]
Al pastor is the best
of schawarma in a taco.
[447]
It's crispy and it's a dollar 25!
[449]
It's so good.
[450]
So there you have it!
[451]
Just a few of our favorite spots
[453]
for tacos in Los Angeles.
