[38]
interview so if you have any kind of
[41]
team leader interview coming up whether

it's a supervisory interview or a

[77]

[80]
videos for you ok let's get started and
[83]
quickly before we do go into them if you
[86]
want to tell me the name of your team
[88]
leader interview in the comments section
[90]
below the video I will give you five
[92]
sample interview questions to prepare
[94]
form so for example if you have an admin
[97]
team leader interview coming up tell me
[99]
that's what you've got coming up and I
[100]
will give you five sample responses if
[102]
you've got a team leader interview
[104]
because you're working in a warehouse or
[106]
a supermarket whatever it is tell me
[108]
what the interview is and I will give
[109]
you five specific questions to prepare
[111]
for ok let's now take a look at the top
[114]
7 team leader interview questions and
[116]
answers that I think you should prepare
[119]
for ok question number one tell me about
[121]
yourself and why you are suited to the
[124]
role of a team leader so there's
[127]
essentially two questions in one here so
[131]
here's some tips for
[132]
answering this question before I give
[134]
you a sample response tip number one
[136]
make sure you split your answer up into
[138]
two parts so the first is to give
[140]
information about you and then also in
[142]
the second part explain why you are
[144]
suited to the role of a team leader tip
[147]
number two make sure you look at the job
[150]
description for the team leader role
[151]
you're applying for and match your
[153]
answer closely to it now this is really
[155]
easy to do and I'm gonna give you an
[157]
example in a second and then tip number
[160]
three my advice is to always be a firm
[163]
bookfair team leader okay so you don't
[166]
want to go in with a totally autocratic
[168]
leadership style but you have to set a
[171]
high standard but you also have to be
[173]
fair to your employees to your staff and
[177]
you have to motivate them as well and as
[179]
we progressed through this training
[181]
video I'm gonna give you some really
[183]
good tips on how to do that so let's go
[186]
and have a look at tip number 2 where it
[187]
says look at the job description and
[189]
match your answer closely to it this is
[191]
just a generic sample team leader job
[193]
description and it says you have to
[195]
manage and lead a team of employees you
[197]
have to communicate company goals and
[200]
deadlines to the team you have to
[202]
motivate team members and then assess
[204]
performance and you also have to keep
[206]
management updated on team performance
[209]
so I would look at the job description
[211]
and my response to this question would
[213]
include I am someone who very much
[215]
enjoys leading people through effective
[218]
motivation and management techniques I
[220]
am a competent communicator who is able
[223]
to clearly relay company goals to a team
[224]
whilst focusing intently on deadline set
[227]
by management so if you look there at
[230]
the highlighted green words that I've
[232]
used in that response they simply match
[234]
the job description so don't forget at
[236]
some point during this tutorial gonna be
[238]
able to download this and you can use
[240]
that as part of your response to the
[242]
question but here is my entire response
[245]
to team leader question number one which
[247]
is tell me about yourself and why you
[249]
are suited to the role of a team leader
[251]
I am a hard-working professional and
[253]
conscientious person who enjoys the
[255]
challenge of both leading and managing
[257]
people and also seeing projects and
[260]
tasks through to successful completion I
[263]
pride myself on a
[265]
strong work ethic and an ability to
[267]
motivate a team in order to get the best
[269]
out of them I believe I am suited to the
[271]
role of team leader firstly because I
[273]
have the skills qualities and attributes
[275]
to match the job description and
[276]
secondly because I am someone who simply
[278]
has a keen desire to lead and manage
[280]
people I feel more comfortable when I am
[282]
managing and leading people and get a
[284]
great sense of job satisfaction from
[286]
completing projects through to the end
[288]
for my employer to a high standard
[290]
that's a great response to that question
[292]
and I can say you'll be able to download
[294]
it very soon and use it during your
[296]
preparation let's now move on to
[297]
question number two of the team leader
[300]
interview and that's what are the
[301]
qualities of a successful team leader so
[304]
this question is designed to see whether
[306]
you understand what qualities are needed
[309]
to be a really good leader so here's a
[311]
tick just one tip for this one to answer
[313]
the question correctly make sure you use
[317]
power words and phrases in your response
[319]
that focus on your ability to
[322]
communicate effectively support your
[325]
team see projects and tasks through to
[328]
completion understand your team's
[331]
strengths and also their weaknesses be a
[333]
positive role model and also work
[335]
towards the organization's goals and I'm
[338]
going to give you a sample response in a
[339]
second but those are the key elements
[340]
that I think you should focus on in your
[343]
response to get the highest scores
[345]
possible okay here's my sample response
[348]
using that particular model so what are
[350]
the qualities of a successful team
[352]
leader here's my response for you
[354]
there are numerous qualities that a team
[356]
leader must possess if they are to be
[358]
successful in the role these include
[360]
being a great communicator if you cannot
[363]
communicate effectively and support your
[365]
team you will not see projects through
[367]
to the end you must also have a thorough
[369]
understanding of your team's strengths
[371]
and weaknesses and then adapt your plan
[373]
based on their qualities a team leader
[376]
must be resolute in their actions be
[378]
confident in their own and their team's
[380]
abilities and also be determined to see
[383]
projects through to the end
[384]
finally a team leader must be committed
[386]
to delivering positive results for his
[389]
or her employer and act as a positive
[391]
role model for the organization they are
[393]
working for again that is a really
[395]
strong response and if you use that
[398]
that interview question I can pretty
[400]
much guarantee you'll get the highest
[401]
schools possible let's move on to
[403]
question number three so team leader
[406]
question number three
[407]
how would you motivate your team this is
[409]
a tough question and it's one which I
[411]
can pretty much guarantee again you'll
[412]
get asked during your team leader
[414]
interview
[414]
how would you motivate your team here's
[416]
some tips for answering the question
[418]
positively tip number one all successful
[421]
leaders know their team members
[422]
strengths and weaknesses so if you're
[424]
going to motivate a team you have to
[426]
know what they're good at but also know
[428]
what they're not good at too tip number
[430]
two communication is vital to motivating
[432]
your team you have to communicate with
[434]
them on a regular basis tip number three
[437]
always be clear when communicating with
[440]
your team if a team knows what's
[441]
expected of them and you encourage and
[444]
praise them as a team leader they will
[446]
literally do anything for you so you
[448]
have to be a good motivator here's my
[451]
sample response to the team leader
[452]
interview question how would you
[454]
motivate your team there are two key
[457]
elements I would use to motivate my team
[459]
these are communication and clarity I
[461]
would motivate my team by communicating
[464]
with them in three ways firstly by
[466]
talking to each team member to find out
[468]
what they are good at and what their
[470]
strengths are secondly I would
[472]
communicate the organization's goals
[474]
regularly to ensure each team member was
[476]
clear on the plan of action we had in
[479]
place and thirdly I would be a
[481]
supportive team leader who would
[482]
encourage the team regularly during the
[485]
task being undertaken and also praise
[487]
them when appropriate with regards to
[489]
clarity I feel a team is far more likely
[491]
to succeed and be self-motivated if they
[494]
understand clearly what the plan is
[496]
I would always brief the team as to what
[498]
he's expecting from them if a team
[500]
understands what is required and they
[501]
are praised when they work well they
[503]
will stay motivated now that is a solid
[506]
answer to the question how would you
[508]
motivate your team and don't forget like
[510]
I say you're gonna get the slide soon to
[512]
download these and you can use them
[513]
during your preparation just to remind
[515]
you if you are enjoying these I'd love
[517]
it if you gave the video a thumbs up
[518]
because that will motivate me to do some
[520]
more for you question number four of the
[522]
team leader interview what type of
[524]
leader are you now obviously only you
[526]
will know what kind of leader you are
[528]
but this would be my response to it
[529]
first of all a few tips
[531]
for answering this question tip number
[533]
one to be an effective leader you have
[535]
to set the standards expected of your
[537]
team so whenever I used to go into an
[540]
organization and work as a team leader I
[542]
did it for many years I would always set
[544]
the standards high because it's very
[547]
it's very difficult to raise the
[549]
standards once you've set a low standard
[551]
but you can always bring them back down
[553]
slightly and it's one thing I learned
[555]
from the get-go was to set high
[556]
standards from the start
[558]
tip number to being firm but fair is a
[560]
great way to lead tip number three
[563]
showing empathy as a leader when
[565]
required is vital you have to show
[567]
empathy at times as a leader so using
[570]
all of that information here's my sample
[572]
response for you to use I believe I am
[575]
hardworking professional and determined
[578]
leader who takes great pride in their
[579]
work I am a leader who is able to get
[582]
the most out of their team by
[583]
implementing supportive and motivational
[586]
strategies in parallel whilst I am very
[588]
much a firm leader who expects nothing
[591]
but high standards from his team I also
[593]
have empathy and can react to a team
[595]
members change in performance if it
[598]
occurs as a team leader I feel it is
[600]
important to understand your team and
[602]
what motivates them individually
[604]
whenever leaving a new team I would
[606]
always carry out initial staff
[608]
appraisals to get to know my team and to
[610]
also lay down the expectations I have of
[613]
each team member to summarize I'm a
[615]
leader who is firm fair and highly
[617]
focused on my employer's goals and their
[619]
overall mission ok another great
[622]
response question number 5 how would you
[625]
solve a dispute or disagreement between
[627]
two team members under your control this
[630]
is a tough question but a great one to
[632]
be prepared for here's some tips for
[634]
answering this question to get the
[635]
highest marks possible tip number one
[637]
always look to resolve problems and
[639]
disputes quickly you need to get them
[642]
resolved as soon as possible if you
[643]
don't then it impacts negatively on the
[646]
team show the interview panel that you
[648]
have got the confidence and expertise to
[650]
resolve disputes quickly tip number 3
[653]
when resolving issues between team
[654]
members always get those involved to
[657]
agree to the resolution that you put
[659]
forward so both parties have to be in
[662]
agreement with your suggestion here's
[664]
the answer
[665]
to the interview question how would you
[666]
solve a dispute or disagreement between
[668]
two team members under your control
[671]
first of all I think it's important to
[674]
get to the bottom of a dispute quickly
[676]
if you let a dispute or disagreement
[678]
fester or try and allow it to rectify
[681]
itself naturally you run the risk of it
[683]
becoming a serious problem whereby it
[685]
can affect the rest of the team if there
[688]
is a dispute or disagreement I will
[689]
first of all gather some facts to find
[692]
out what the problem actually is I will
[693]
speak to each person involved
[695]
individually to get clarity on the
[697]
situation then I will decide what my
[699]
plan of action is to resolve the
[701]
situation amicably and quickly this
[703]
would normally involve sitting down with
[705]
both parties to discuss a situation in a
[707]
calm manner with a view to resolving the
[709]
issue I would then at the end of the
[711]
meeting get both team members to agree
[713]
on the resolution and put it behind them
[715]
for the benefit of the team great answer
[717]
question number six describe a project
[720]
where you led a team to success now tips
[723]
for answering this team leader interview
[724]
question make sure you give a specific
[726]
example when answering this question
[729]
don't tell into a panel what you would
[731]
do to lead a team to success but tell
[733]
them what you've done before tip number
[735]
two try and include an external pressure
[738]
that makes the project more difficult
[740]
this might be a time element or where
[743]
something's gone wrong and you have to
[744]
act really quickly tip number three show
[747]
that you were able to motivate your team
[749]
to complete the project successfully
[752]
let's take a look at my sample answer to
[755]
this interview question there have been
[757]
many occasions where I have led a team
[759]
to success however perhaps the most
[761]
recent and most notable was whereby my
[763]
team had to complete a task for my
[765]
company under difficult and challenging
[767]
circumstances our company IT system went
[771]
down unexpectedly and it quickly became
[772]
apparent that it needed to be replaced
[775]
and quickly each day the system was down
[777]
the organization was losing significant
[779]
sums of money
[780]
I created a plan of action before
[782]
sitting down with my team to explain the
[784]
brief and what I wanted each person to
[787]
do it was particularly difficult because
[789]
the work we were required to carry out
[791]
had to be completed over a weekend I
[793]
needed to motivate my team to come in
[795]
over the weekend when they were not
[797]
expected to
[798]
now after I brief the team successfully
[800]
they all understood the importance of
[802]
the task and agreed to come in over the
[804]
weekend period now over the weekend we
[807]
worked tirelessly to replace the entire
[809]
system as quickly and accurately as
[811]
possible once the system had been
[813]
replaced we then spent time checking
[815]
everything was working correctly to make
[817]
sure the business could operate as
[818]
normal we also put measures in place to
[820]
make sure the system failure would not
[822]
happen again
[823]
once Monday morning came around the task
[825]
was complete and the business was able
[827]
to function again without hindrance I
[829]
feel this was a successful project
[832]
because I was able to motivate the team
[833]
successfully whilst also providing
[836]
clarity on the work I wanted to be
[838]
carried out and by what timeframe so
[840]
that is a real specific response where I
[842]
was in a situation and I took the team
[845]
from point A to point B to solve the
[847]
problem quickly whilst under pressure
[849]
question number seven you're gonna get
[851]
these slides very soon have you ever
[853]
failed as a leader really difficult
[856]
question to answer so here's some tips
[858]
first of all for answering is to get the
[860]
highest marks possible tip number one
[862]
give an example where you will have
[864]
actually failed don't say well I've
[867]
never failed as a leader okay they're
[869]
not looking for that they want to see a
[871]
level of maturity in your failure what I
[874]
mean by that is that you tell the
[876]
interview panel what you've learned from
[877]
that experience because that's really
[879]
important tip number three tell the
[881]
interview panel how you have matured as
[883]
a leader from the experience where you
[885]
failed so here's a sample response to
[888]
the team leader interview question have
[889]
you ever failed as a leader here we go
[892]
yes I have in the early days of being a
[894]
leader I remember leading a team by
[897]
using an entirely autocratic approach I
[900]
was basically dictating what I expected
[902]
of the team and what I wanted them to do
[904]
now this was a mistake
[905]
simply because I failed to get to know
[908]
my team and also what motivated them as
[910]
individuals I soon realized that my
[912]
approach to leadership would fail and so
[915]
I decided to change quickly
[916]
I believe that initial experience of
[918]
leading people stood me in good stead
[920]
and has made me the leader I am today I
[922]
continually analyzed my performance to
[925]
look for ways I can improve I feel this
[927]
is an important quality of an effective
[929]
leader and being
[931]
reflective of one's own performance is a
[933]
key ingredient of being successful as a
[936]
team leader not a great response ok so
