long-anticipated many years in the

making follow-up to the zonda and the

huayra today we're taking a first look

at this the new pagani utopia it's
[24]
limited to only 99 cars simplicity in
[27]
the design lightweight with a v12 engine
[30]
also with a manual gearbox it is a car
[33]
that is about driving pleasure today
[35]
we're going to go through all of the
[37]
details explore it enfold the exterior
[39]
the interior open up the engine bay and
[42]
discover all about a car that has
[44]
literally been six years to the point we
[47]
see it today ready to be introduced to

the world here in the hometown of
[51]
leonardo da vinci let's explore this

then the latest creation from horatio

pagani the pagani utopia

naturally there's a lot to take in when

you have a first look at a car as
[66]
special as this new pagani models are
[69]
not exactly introduced on a frequent
[71]
basis the zonda arrived back in 1999.
[74]
that was code named c8 the c9 the pagani
[77]
huayra was introduced 11 years ago and
[79]
now we have the car that we've known by
[81]
its codename c10 introduced as the
[84]
pagani utopia their third model
[86]
presented here in the theater in milan
[89]
the hometown of davinci because leonardo
[91]
da vinci has always been an inspiration
[93]
for horacio pagani with his art with his
[95]
design with producing the cars like this
[98]
and what a car it is simplicity in the
[100]
design but distinctly pagani elegant
[103]
wherever you look so many details that
[105]
you start to take in it's about
[106]
lightness no hybrid system or batteries
[109]
we have the six liter twin turbocharged
[111]
v12 putting out over 850 horsepower in a
[114]
car that weighs under 1 300 kilos you
[118]
have an optional 7-speed gated manual
[120]
gearbox also an automated manual option

you have dihedral doors as were
[125]
previewed on the huayra r which was very
[127]
much used as a development car to help
[130]
produce and create elements here as a
[132]
technical demonstration of the kind of
[134]
things that are possible we have a lot

of exposed mechanics and analog elements

in the tail lights for example we have
[141]
the distinct quad exhaust tail pipe back
[143]
there as well but this is really a
[145]
stunning car that you need to see to
[147]
fully understand from the interior to
[149]
the turbines and the carbon fiber that
[150]
you have on those very large 22-inch
[153]
rear wheels we're going to go through it

all though today but come and have a
[156]
quick look inside pop open the doors
[159]
with those lovely door latches they pull
[161]
up and out to reveal
[163]
this very beautiful interior analog in
[166]
the way it's presented no oversized
[168]
digital displays it is a lot of what
[170]
pagani represents a work of art within
[173]
and so many details and mechanisms that
[175]
you can really start to see when you're
[177]
looking at them a little bit more
[178]
closely but let's go through this take a
[180]
look in full at the design talk about
[182]
the mechanical side of it open up the
[184]
rear and check out the interior because
[186]
this is really quite stunning as we
[189]
focus on the design firstly what's in a
[191]
name well back in the year 1516 the
[194]
philosopher thomas moore referenced
[196]
utopia as somewhere that does not exist
[199]
something of which we dream it is
[202]
therefore very appropriate to wear that
[204]
name badge on a dream car of this nature
[207]
a car that radiates simplicity and as i
[209]
said it's distinctly pagani with smooth
[212]
curvaceous lines found throughout
[214]
aerodynamics discreetly hidden away
[216]
within the body work it's been through
[218]
extensive testing and in fact is also
[220]
globally certified with markets like the
[222]
united states being incredibly important
[224]
for cars like this there are elements
[226]
that are familiar and have been updated
[228]
modernized and brought into this car
[230]
from other models we've seen before but
[232]
the idea is that it's timeless that it
[234]
will always look beautiful that it's a
[236]
work of art as much as it is a car as
[238]
well as we explore around though there
[241]
are plenty of things i want to point out
[242]
because you start to notice more and
[244]
more about it the more time that you're
[246]
looking the front clam shell opens up
[248]
pivoted from the nose as we've seen
[250]
before the rear clamp opens towards the
[252]
back and we'll see that in just a moment
[254]
as well we've got these familiar leather
[256]
straps and latches with all of the most
[258]
high quality buckles possible we've got
[261]
details here like look at the fog light
[262]
and the way that's inserted within that
[264]
opening of course for the airflow at the
[266]
front you can see down here the
[268]
mechanism for the hinge that pivots that
[270]
nose forward in fact this is fairly
[271]
reminiscent of the design of the zonda
[273]
up front as well the single wiper
[275]
mounted from this carbon fiber piece
[277]
contrasting on this car against the
[279]
pearl white that we have for the paint
[281]
work i want to talk a lot about the
[283]
wheels and tires as well so we'll come
[284]
back to those you can see as i mentioned
[287]
all of these aero elements the car has
[289]
been extensively wind tunnel tested even
[291]
for example the door mirrors and look at
[293]
the way they are mounted acting as an
[295]
aerofoil with the mount point right from
[298]
above mirrors have always been a special
[300]
thing on the different pagani models as
[302]
we come around towards the rear you can
[304]
see how the airflow is managed in
[305]
towards the engine bay and then you come
[307]
back here where you've got these active
[309]
flaps across the rear wing mounted just
[312]
above the body work but again sitting so
[314]
naturally within it these tail lights
[316]
are a particular detail you have the
[318]
turbines within them but they're
[320]
actually floating inside this space the
[322]
top one mounted from above the bottom
[324]
one from below and of course back here
[326]
then the diffuser sitting beneath the
[328]
exhaust system that you can just spot as
[331]
it pokes out through from within let's
[333]
explore the interior and you'll notice
[335]
for example the opening here behind the
[337]
front wheels is actually integrated into
[338]
the door panel this clip to open lifted
[341]
up even with the utopia logo inserted
[344]
just there pop open the doors where we
[346]
are greeted by this wonderful interior
[349]
space and the idea here is to keep
[351]
things analog to keep things timeless to
[354]
make it about driving pleasure for
[356]
example in the center just look at the
[359]
exposed mechanism of the gated manual
[362]
shifter just there and imagine driving
[365]
that with over 850 horsepower with a
[368]
third pedal with the clutch pedal and
[370]
again even down there the way the pedals
[372]
are presented the dashboard has the
[374]
traditional dials but with elements of
[377]
them visible you can see straight
[378]
through certain elements a small digital
[380]
display in the center but the idea being
[383]
to keep this timeless to keep it analog
[385]
behind us we have the badge one right

there the plaque that will showcase the
[390]
number of that specific car in a cabin
[392]
that features a lot of glass it's very
[394]
open with those two roof panels also the
[397]
view through towards the back just
[399]
behind you as well to be able to see
[401]
some of that glorious engine bay as

we've seen before the air conditioning
[405]
vents that come up out from over the top
[407]
of the dashboard
[408]
plenty of carbon fiber of course the car
[410]
is based on the carbotanium tub they've
[412]
upgraded to even lighter even stronger
[414]
materials as things have moved forward
[416]
to keep the car rigid to keep it
[418]
lightweight as well you've got a single
[420]
piece of aluminium that's milled to
[422]
create the full steering wheel finished
[423]
with this perforated leather around with
[426]
all of your controls and everything that
[427]
you can touch and look at within this
[429]
car feels of the absolute highest
[432]
quality as you can imagine it should in
[434]
fact we have the key for it just here in
[436]
the center to show you that shaped in
[439]
the design of the car itself as we've
[442]
seen before with the hyra for example
[444]
all of these magnificent touches
[446]
including having somewhere to stow that
[448]
away when you're out onto the road as
[450]
well a few storage cubbies and things
[453]
dotted around there are even seat or
[455]
suit carrier bags mounted to the back of
[457]
the seats as you can see there we've got
[459]
these carbon fiber bucket seats finished
[462]
with all of the leather and the
[463]
different materials colour matched to
[464]
the exterior of this particular car and
[467]
in fact from here one thing i'd like to
[468]
talk about as well is the shape of the
[470]
windscreen you'll notice how curved it
[472]
is which you see even more when you're
[474]
back outside the car as well we've got
[476]
some switch gear up on the roof mounted
[479]
very much aircraft style it's just a
[482]
glorious glorious place to explore so to
[485]
show you back outside what i was just
[487]
saying look at the design of the
[489]
windshield very unusual to have it
[491]
curved around like that again creating a
[493]
distinct appearance creating a different
[495]
look for this car to open up the rear
[498]
section then to reveal the engine bay
[499]
you have this single very large carbon
[502]
fiber clam shell pivoted from the back
[504]
as i mentioned i'm going to pop open the
[506]
door on this side because then we have
[508]
the latches that you actually open up to
[510]
reveal all of this i'll just do this
[512]
side
[513]
release the catch then come round so i
[515]
can show you on this side as well
[517]
exactly how this works so down to the
[520]
side just here we have the red leather
[522]
strap to match the interior the buckle
[524]
is finished with the pagani logo as well
[526]
worn at the side we then pull a latch
[529]
just here and lift this entire section
[532]
up to reveal not only the engine bay but
[535]
also the carbon fiber storage boxes
[537]
found towards the side
[539]
but have a look at the glorious
[540]
presentation of that entire section of

the car we have the engine for pagani by
[546]
mercedes amg the six liter twin
[548]
turbocharged 12-cylinder unit mid-rear
[551]
mounted rear driven of course it
[554]
produces

864 metric horsepower that's 852 brake
[558]
horsepower along with 1
[560]
100 newton meters of torque and that's
[563]
been one of the challenges to introduce
[565]
a gearbox working with xtrac that can
[567]
handle that amount of torque from the
[569]
engine but also back here everything is
[572]
presented beautifully from the whole
[574]
component tree that you can find around
[575]
the suspension the control arms to the
[577]
exhaust system made from titanium that
[579]
only weighs six kilograms to the
[581]
underside of the whole clam and all of
[583]
the carbon fiber presentation that you
[585]
actually find within even all of the
[587]
strut braces and control arms and
[588]
everything that's around to talk a
[590]
little bit more about the storage
[592]
buckets that you find just towards the
[594]
side as we've seen before the way these
[596]
open up again all with these lovely
[599]
lovely extra details just give this a
[601]
pull pop this open it reveals the
[604]
storage area where within you have the
[606]
fitted luggage presented to match also

with the utopia badging
[610]
it's

it's as much art as it is a car the way

all of this is made presented put
[617]
together it is just wonderful magical it
[620]
is quite literally utopia then to close

this back down very delicately does it

with this particular car being obviously

the show car pull this into place

carefully line it up

press it down to click and then close up

the latch around it as well to put that

into place sealed and closed to talk

about the wheels tires and brakes on

utopia we have a 21 inch wheel at the

front and actually a 22 inch wheel at

the rear you'll spot the distinct

turbine pattern they are app forged
[652]
monolithic aluminium alloy wheels
[654]
finished with these carbon fiber
[655]
overlays which are dual purpose both for
[658]
helping with the cooling of the brakes
[659]
and also reducing the turbulent air that
[661]
you find underneath the car those are
[663]
then shot in bespoke pirelli p0 corsa
[666]
tyres and in fact the tyres are finished
[668]
with a utopia graphic to represent that
[671]
they are specific to this very car
[673]
there's also a sato zero option and we
[675]
have the brembo carbon ceramic brakes
[677]
found within in fact this car gives us
[680]
demonstration of two different styles of
[682]
configuration we have the silver wheels
[684]
here with those dark deep red brake
[686]
calipers if we come around towards the
[688]
other side of this utopia around this
[690]
side we have the golden wheels over the
[692]
top of matched gold bronze calipers
[696]
within as well obviously this is quite a
[698]
distinct design but you can see those
[700]
shapes you can see the effect you can
[702]
see how that would all work well it's
[704]
now time for me to take a seat on board

pagani's utopia we can start up the

ignition and have a further look around

so carefully does this with the

priceless

show cart the first

car that we're looking at here brand new

leather

inside as you can hear

but have a look around the skeleton

style displays

those side mirrors the aerofoils out

there and the button in the center press

c10 the utopia the car that we see here

i imagine there will be future variants

perhaps a bc more track focused version

perhaps a roadster to come as well but i

tell you what

to look at this and the intricate

details throughout the entire car and
[866]
understand a bit more of the story

behind it and to have known the team

from pagani of course for many years and

to have seen the cars evolve to know

what this is about

it's much more than just a car it is the

feeling it is the emotion it is creating

something that directly matches the

request from customers to be light to be

simple to be about driving pleasure and

driving emotion to have a manual gearbox

with a v12 engine in the modern era

is something quite extraordinary and to

be able to take in more about this and

surface and a quick look here ahead of

the introduction where it's going to be
