If you're applying for a non-immigrant visa聽 from abroad, then this video is for you.聽聽
[5]
The Department of Homeland Security recently聽 expanded the ability of consular officers abroad聽聽
[11]
to waive the in-person interview requirement for聽 certain types of non-immigrant visas if you've聽聽
[17]
already held that classification before. What does that mean? It means that聽聽
[22]
if you have any of these types of non-immigrant聽 visas, and I'll get into which ones, and it聽聽
[26]
expired in the last 48 months, then you can renew聽 it if you're eligible based on certain conditions聽聽
[32]
without going to a biometrics appointment or聽 an in-person interview. In today's video, I'm聽聽
[38]
going to talk about who qualifies, how you can do聽 this and I'll mostly be on my screen and I'll walk聽聽
[44]
through some of the details. Let's dive right in聽 and be sure to subscribe to our channel so you聽聽
[49]
don't miss updates like this in the future. Okay, so here you see the announcement from聽聽
[54]
the state department, which talks about聽 the expanded ability of consular officers to聽聽
[59]
waive the in-person interview requirement for聽 individuals applying for a non-immigrant visa聽聽
[64]
and the classification that they've already聽 held before. An example of this would be,聽聽
[68]
you've had a B-1 visa and it's expired sometime聽 in the last 48 months and you'd now like to聽聽
[73]
get another one. You may qualify for this,聽 and I'll get into the details in a second.聽
[79]
This policy is in effect聽 until December 31st, 2021.聽聽
[85]
I'm actually going to take an example of a U.S.聽 Consulate and Embassy abroad. I'm going to go to聽聽
[90]
India because I've been getting a lot of questions聽 from Indian nationals, and let's just take a look聽聽
[94]
at an example. Then I would encourage you to聽 do the same and go on the U.S. Embassy and聽聽
[99]
Consulate website of the country that you are聽 in and trying to get a non-immigrant visa in.聽
[105]
Again, if you're trying to apply for a聽 non-immigrant visa, like B-1 or B-2 but you've聽聽
[110]
never ever had one before, this interview waiver聽 is not for you. Now let's take a look here. The聽聽
[116]
U.S. Embassy in New Delhi is currently processing聽 all visa categories, including student visas,聽聽
[122]
H1-B, H-4, L-1, L-2, C1/D, B1/B2 visas. And聽 now because their capacity is limited, they're聽聽
[129]
trying to take some appointments off their plate聽 and they have introduced Drop Box applications.聽聽
[134]
As you can see here, they're accepting Drop Box聽 applications for renewals of non-immigrant visas聽聽
[141]
up to 48 months after expiration. And聽 they've listed all their drop-off locations.聽
[146]
Now, I want to take a look at this next page,聽 where they actually talk about who qualifies for聽聽
[153]
this interview waiver. They have a checklist聽 here and I will paste all these links in the聽聽
[157]
description below so you can check. If you can聽 answer yes to all of these questions or statements聽聽
[164]
on this checklist, then you likely qualify. I'm聽 just going to go through some of them and then聽聽
[169]
you guys can read the rest of these in your own聽 time and just make sure that you really qualify.聽
[174]
If you have any question that perhaps maybe聽 you don't qualify for one of them, I would email聽聽
[179]
the embassy and ask if you could potentially聽 still qualify for the waiver. You don't know聽聽
[184]
until you ask. Let's just quickly go through the聽 criteria. If you are below the ages of 14 and 80,聽聽
[191]
you've had a previous use visa in the same聽 class as the visa for which you wish to apply.聽聽
[196]
Your most recent visa was issued in India. It聽 was issued after January 1, 2008. You've never聽聽
[204]
had refusals for visa in any class after your聽 most recent visa issuance. If you are applying聽聽
[210]
for an H or L or R visa, your prior visa in the聽 same class is still valid or expired within the聽聽
[215]
last 12 months. Whereas for everybody else it's聽 48 months, for the H, R, L, it is last 12 months.聽
[223]
Okay, and then if you have a child below 14 years聽 of age and/or if you're over 80 years of age,聽聽
[232]
then you may also qualify even if you don't have聽 some of those other criteria. Then they actually聽聽
[239]
walk you through the step-by-step how to apply.聽 The visa application, it's the same. It's still聽聽
[245]
DS-160 form. You then register an account and聽 they link to the webpage where they want you聽聽
[250]
to do that. You pay the visa application fee. Then if you qualify for an interview waiver,聽聽
[257]
you will be able to select the post that聽 will process your renewal application and聽聽
[261]
then they'll give you a date on which you can go聽 and submit or drop off your application. They're聽聽
[266]
pretty clear instructions and they tell you聽 exactly what to do and what time to drop it off.聽
[272]
Then it says you will receive a decision聽 on your case within seven to 10 business聽聽
[276]
days of when your documents are submitted. If聽 they're actually sticking to this timeline,聽聽
[280]
that's pretty good. And it says, "If additional聽 information is needed to complete processing of聽聽
[285]
your case, you'll be informed by email.聽 And if your application is approved,聽聽
[289]
your passport and visa will be delivered for聽 pickup to your selected document collection center聽聽
[295]
that you have already specified聽 when you scheduled your drop-off."聽
[300]
That was a quick overview of the聽 non-immigrant visa interview waiver process.聽聽
