TransferWise (WISE) Money Transfer 2022 | How To Use TransferWise - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
what's up simon here back with another
[2]
video and in this video
[3]
we're going to talk about transferwise
[5]
which is a service that you can use
[7]
to transfer money to all over the world
[9]
without having to pay
[10]
crazy high transfer fees for your money
[13]
transfer
[13]
i'll be covering exactly how
[15]
transferwise works and why they're able
[17]
to
[17]
offer such low prices for money
[19]
transfers internationally
[21]
i'm also going to show you step by step
[22]
how to actually carry out
[24]
an international money transfer using
[26]
transfer ice on my computer
[28]
so if this is the first time you're
[29]
using transferwise to carry out the
[31]
money transfer
[32]
you can just follow along with this
[33]
video and i'll show you exactly how to
[35]
use transferwise and how to get the
[37]
lowest fees possible
[38]
for your money transfer so if you want
[40]
to skip the part where i talk about how
[42]
transferwise actually works and you want
[44]
to go straight to the part
[45]
where i explain how to carry out the
[47]
money transfer step by step on my
[49]
computer
[50]
just hover over the progress bar of the
[51]
video and click on the part that you're
[53]
looking for
[53]
or just go to the video description and
[55]
click on the timestamp where it says
[57]
how to carry out the money transfer with
[59]
transferwise also if this is the first
[61]
time you're actually sending money
[62]
somewhere using transferwise
[64]
feel free to use my personal referral
[66]
link down below in the description
[67]
which will get you a free money transfer
[69]
up to a certain amount
[71]
okay so what is transferwise and what
[74]
makes a difference to the other
[75]
traditional ways
[76]
of sending money well the main reason
[78]
people use transferwise
[80]
is because you can save a lot of money
[82]
on conversion fees and transfer fees
[84]
for example i live in switzerland so if
[86]
i want to send a thousand swiss francs
[88]
to a friend who lives in the united
[90]
states with a u.s bank account
[92]
i would have to pay 12 more for the
[94]
transfer
[95]
compared to using transferwise meaning
[97]
that the amount that will actually end
[99]
up in my friend's u.s bank account
[101]
will be 12 less compared if i would have
[103]
used transferwise
[105]
the reason is because my bank charges a
[107]
higher transfer fee
[108]
and also exchanges my swiss francs into
[111]
us dollar
[112]
at a much worse exchange rate now when i
[115]
increase the amount i want to send to
[116]
let's say
[117]
10 000 swiss francs the difference
[119]
becomes even more significant
[121]
even though i have to pay a higher
[122]
transfer fee using transferwise compared
[124]
to my bank
[125]
the transfer is still cheaper using
[127]
transferwise because the exchange rate
[129]
transferwise offers me to convert my
[131]
swiss francs into us dollars
[133]
is so much better compared to my bank
[135]
that is still a lot cheaper if i were to
[137]
use transferwise
[138]
but now why is transferwise actually
[140]
able to offer money transfers for so
[143]
much cheaper
[144]
than most other alternatives well the
[146]
secret lies
[147]
in the way transferwise actually carries
[149]
out the transfer
[150]
so let's go back to my initial example
[152]
of sending a thousand swiss francs
[154]
to a friend who lives in the united
[155]
states who has a u.s bank account
[157]
well what a traditional bank does is
[159]
take my thousand swiss francs
[161]
convert that into u.s dollars at a
[164]
pretty bad exchange rate
[165]
and then send that us dollars across to
[168]
the united states
[169]
to the u.s bank account across countries
[172]
which is what makes this transfer so
[175]
expensive so we have the conversion fee
[177]
to actually convert the swiss francs
[179]
into u.s dollars
[180]
and also the transfer fee for the money
[183]
going from switzerland
[184]
to the united states and that's exactly
[186]
where transferwise
[188]
had an idea to make things a lot cheaper
[190]
so
[191]
they have their own bank accounts in
[193]
over 50 countries
[194]
worldwide in the local currency so they
[197]
don't actually
[198]
have to convert one currency to another
[200]
and they don't have to transfer money
[202]
across borders saving them a lot of fees
[205]
so how this would work in my specific
[207]
example of sending a thousand swiss
[209]
francs
[209]
to my friend in the us is that i would
[212]
send my thousand swiss francs
[214]
from my swiss bank account to the swiss
[217]
bank account of transferwise
[218]
and then what they do is they take those
[221]
sound swiss francs and calculate
[223]
how much us dollars those swiss francs
[225]
are right now
[226]
using the mid market rate which is
[228]
pretty much the google exchange rate
[230]
that you can just look up on google
[231]
which is a lot better than what banks
[234]
actually use to convert
[235]
your money and then they take that
[238]
amount of u.s
[240]
dollars and send that from their local
[243]
u.s bank account
[244]
to the local u.s bank account of my
[247]
friend in the united states
[249]
so they never actually convert the swiss
[252]
francs into u.s dollars
[254]
and they never actually transfer money
[256]
from one country
[257]
to another so as long as transferwise
[259]
makes sure that all of their bank
[260]
accounts and all of their countries
[262]
have enough funds then cheat transfers
[265]
like that are possible
[266]
also next to international money
[268]
transfers transferwise
[269]
also offers a multi-currency account and
[272]
also a transferwise debit card
[274]
that you can use while traveling so that
[276]
you can avoid paying high conversion
[278]
fees
[279]
when you're paying for stuff abroad i
[281]
will actually make another
[282]
video specifically about those topics so
[285]
you can check the description below this
[287]
video and click somewhere on the top of
[289]
this video right now
[290]
if you want to check out that topic but
[292]
now let's actually take a look at
[294]
how to carry out an international money
[296]
transfer using trends rice on my
[298]
computer
[299]
so you can see step by step how this
[301]
would work
[302]
again if you want you can use my
[304]
personal referral link down below in the
[305]
description
[306]
which will give you a free money
[308]
transfer up to a certain amount
[310]
so let's now get onto my computer and
[312]
get started
[314]
okay so this is the site where you
[316]
should end up on when you click on the
[317]
link in the description
[318]
to get a free transfer up to 600 swiss
[321]
francs
[322]
and if you actually just go to
[323]
transferwise.com which is something you
[325]
can also do
[326]
then you will end up on this page here
[328]
um and then you just have to
[330]
start by entering the amount you want to
[333]
send and also the currency you want to
[335]
send in
[336]
and you can um click somewhere here
[338]
where it says
[339]
start your transfer or or create your
[341]
account or something like that
[343]
and then it will be exactly the same
[345]
process but most of you probably will
[347]
use the link to get that free transfer
[349]
or the discounted transfer
[351]
depending on the amount um i'm going to
[353]
start using this page here i'm going to
[355]
walk you through everything from here on
[356]
out
[357]
and also don't worry if it says 600
[359]
swiss francs or another amount or
[361]
another currency
[362]
because it will just calculate whatever
[365]
that amount
[366]
is for your currency that you want to
[367]
transfer in and then you will still get
[369]
that discount
[370]
or that free transfer depending on the
[372]
amount
[373]
so let's get started by creating our
[375]
transferwise account
[377]
you just have to type in your email and
[378]
create a password
[380]
and then type in the
[383]
country that you live in and then click
[385]
on claim your fee free
[386]
transfer so i'm just going to quickly do
[388]
that
[390]
right here
[395]
and then i'm going to click on claim
[396]
your fee free transfer
[398]
okay okay so the next page
[402]
we have to decide what we want to send
[405]
so how much we want to send in what
[407]
currency so again i'm going to go back
[409]
to my example here of sending a thousand
[411]
swiss francs to united states
[413]
so i'm going to choose swiss francs here
[415]
and us dollars
[417]
on the bottom here and
[420]
you can also already select a payment
[422]
method right here but you can also do
[424]
that at the
[424]
end where uh when we are at the at the
[427]
pay
[428]
option here so i'm going to cover that
[430]
at the end so it
[431]
it depends uh what a payment method you
[433]
use also on the fees
[436]
so currently the fee is five swiss
[438]
francs 49
[440]
and we get a discount because um
[443]
if you use the discount link you get a
[444]
discount for the first 600
[446]
swiss francs and then the rest will be
[449]
one
[450]
swiss franc 70 for the last 400 swiss
[453]
francs of the transfer
[455]
if i would just type in 600 right here i
[457]
would have to pay
[458]
zero fees but let's go back to a
[461]
thousand
[463]
and then we'll see exactly the amount
[466]
that will be converted which is a
[467]
thousand swiss francs
[469]
minus the total fees and you can also
[472]
see the
[472]
the conversion the exchange rate that um
[475]
transferwise is using
[477]
so again i said it's probably most
[479]
likely very close to the google exchange
[481]
rate
[482]
that you simply find on google so let's
[484]
actually um check if that's true
[486]
so we see here 1.08861
[489]
so let's actually go to google and check
[492]
what
[493]
we find there so i'm gonna type in swiss
[495]
francs
[496]
in us dollars then type in a thousand
[500]
swiss francs
[501]
and we have 1.0887
[505]
compared to 1.0886
[508]
so like i said it's pretty much the
[510]
google rate which is a lot better
[512]
than and the rate you get with a bank
[514]
that have
[515]
because they have high markups okay so
[518]
you also get that rate guaranteed for
[520]
the next 17 hours
[521]
or maybe a bit longer or less long
[523]
depending on what currency what country
[525]
you're in
[526]
it's really uh dynamic so um
[529]
but you don't have to worry that the
[531]
exchange rate will actually be worse
[533]
once you have started that transfer as
[535]
long as you
[536]
do your payment within that time frame
[539]
you will actually get
[540]
the conversion rate that you see here
[543]
and then what's very cool with
[544]
transferwise is that you will always see
[545]
exactly what your fees are
[547]
and how much money will end up after you
[550]
transfer the money so here
[552]
is exactly what my friend will see in
[555]
his
[555]
u.s bank account once the transfer is
[558]
finished
[559]
um then we also see
[562]
an estimate of when the money should be
[565]
there and here it says
[566]
october 5th right now is first of
[569]
october
[570]
so it says four days so over the weekend
[572]
but
[573]
um it probably will be there tomorrow
[576]
and i'm going to show you in the next
[577]
step
[578]
because sometimes and adjusts that that
[580]
estimation
[581]
at a later step but you're going to see
[583]
that
[584]
okay and then i'm going to click on
[586]
continue once everything's set up here
[589]
and then we have to tell them if we are
[592]
a personal
[593]
if this is a personal transaction a
[595]
personal transfer
[596]
or business transfer so in my case it's
[599]
a personal transfer so i'm going to
[600]
click on personal
[601]
and then we have to fill out our
[603]
personal details
[604]
make sure you actually type in your real
[606]
details otherwise you will have
[607]
problems with the money transfer so i'm
[610]
just going to quickly type in my details
[611]
and i'm going to come back to the video
[615]
okay so once you've filled in your
[616]
details here just click on continue
[620]
and then they ask us where we want to
[623]
send the money to
[624]
we can send it to ourselves so to our
[626]
own bank account
[627]
or to someone else or to a business or
[630]
charity
[631]
i want to send it to my friend so i
[632]
click on someone else
[634]
and then we have to enter the details of
[637]
the recipient so of the friend i want to
[639]
send that money to
[640]
so i'm just going to enter their name
[644]
here
[646]
and also the country so that would be
[649]
united states
[650]
in my case and also um
[653]
if you don't wanna or if you don't have
[655]
all the details of your friend
[657]
you can just type in their email address
[659]
and also
[661]
and then transferwise will send them an
[663]
email asking them to fill out their
[664]
details
[665]
so you can just uncheck this box here
[667]
and just type in the email address but
[669]
probably most of you will actually have
[671]
the the details of the person you want
[673]
to send that money to
[674]
so um you can just fill it out here so
[677]
also i'm going to quickly do that
[679]
and i can then come back to the video
[682]
all right so once everything is filled
[684]
out here we just click on confirm
[688]
maybe it's if you have a large amount
[691]
that you want to transfer like
[693]
i don't know 15 000 euros or 20 000 us
[696]
dollars
[697]
then it might ask you for a verification
[699]
so
[700]
you have to uh you have to scan or you
[703]
have to
[704]
um upload your id personal id and also
[707]
give them some proof of residence
[709]
which is mostly like an electricity bill
[712]
or a gas bill or something
[713]
that shows your name on the bill so that
[715]
they can actually verify
[716]
that you are the person you are saying
[718]
you are but if it's just like a thousand
[721]
dollars or a couple of thousand
[723]
it probably won't ask you for a
[724]
verification so right now it didn't ask
[726]
me for any verification so i'm just
[728]
going to continue
[728]
here the next step here is the review of
[731]
details of your transfer so just
[733]
um check again if everything looks good
[736]
and like i said here you see
[738]
it should arrive now by october 2nd so
[740]
that would be already tomorrow
[742]
i don't know why it said 5th of october
[744]
in the beginning but um that sounds a
[746]
lot better so it only takes a day
[748]
to actually arrive at my friend's bank
[750]
account then also if you want to type
[752]
a reference for your recipient you can
[755]
do that here
[756]
and once you've finished everything
[758]
click on confirm and continue
[761]
and then we get to the next step which
[763]
is the step um
[765]
about how we actually pay and the
[768]
payment method really decides on how
[770]
many fees you will have to pay
[772]
so um i would suggest you actually use
[775]
just a manually a manual bank transfer
[779]
because that is pretty much the cheapest
[781]
option the only
[782]
thing that would be cheaper is if you
[784]
already have a balance
[785]
on your transferwise account but as you
[787]
see because this is a new account i
[789]
don't have any balance on here
[790]
so i can choose your balance um if you
[793]
are really in a hurry and you need the
[795]
money to arrive as fast as possible
[797]
you can use debit card or credit card
[801]
a debit card mostly is a bit cheaper
[803]
than credit card
[805]
and that will basically arrive
[807]
immediately or in a couple of seconds
[809]
if you choose that option just click on
[811]
continue to payment
[812]
then type in your card information and
[814]
then click pay
[816]
but i would suggest you just use a
[818]
manual bank transfer if you're not in a
[820]
hurry for the money to arrive
[822]
because you'll save um you save more
[824]
money on fees
[826]
so i'm going to show you how it works
[828]
with a manual bank transfer so we're
[830]
going to choose
[830]
the top option here again you see all
[833]
the fees here
[834]
and what will end up in the bank account
[836]
of my friend
[837]
and then i'm going to click on continue
[839]
to payment
[841]
then they ask us what bank account this
[843]
money is coming from is it coming from
[845]
me
[845]
or is it coming from a joint account
[847]
it's coming from my own account so i'm
[849]
gonna click on yes i'm the account
[851]
holder
[852]
then we're gonna click on continue and
[855]
here they ask us how we want to actually
[857]
transfer the money so we're going to use
[858]
online banking telephone banking or
[860]
bank branch they pretty much give you
[863]
the same information
[864]
it doesn't matter what you choose here
[866]
um the difference is that you just have
[868]
to call your bank
[870]
and give them the information that way
[872]
if you choose telephone banking
[874]
but it really doesn't matter how i do it
[875]
the way it works for you just do it like
[877]
that but most of you are probably gonna
[878]
use the online banking
[880]
option here so i'm gonna choose this and
[882]
click on continue to
[884]
bank details and this is where i
[887]
see now the bank details of
[889]
transferwise's
[890]
swiss bank account again we try to avoid
[894]
any trends any transfer over
[897]
different countries and also any
[898]
conversions so they give
[900]
me their swiss bank account because i'm
[901]
sending in swiss francs
[905]
so what you have to do is basically take
[906]
that information go to your online bank
[909]
and or just log into your online banking
[912]
and then
[913]
carry out the payment there also make
[916]
sure you use
[917]
the reference here where it says um this
[920]
number
[921]
and just put that in the reference field
[924]
of your online banking payment
[926]
and that way they say
[929]
it might be delayed if you don't put
[931]
that that number here so just make sure
[934]
to put it
[934]
to avoid any delays in with your
[938]
transfer
[939]
but that's basically it once you have
[941]
actually
[942]
done your payment with your online
[944]
banking you can click on i've made my
[946]
bank transfer on the bottom here
[949]
and then you will be redirected to your
[952]
transferwise dashboard this is what you
[954]
see
[955]
every time you log into your new
[957]
transferwise account right now
[958]
so here you see all your activity and
[961]
this is the transfer that we have just
[962]
set up so we have just
[964]
set up our transfer and now the money is
[966]
on the way from my bank account
[968]
to their bank account then once they
[971]
receive my swiss francs
[973]
they will actually give me a message and
[974]
say hey we received your swiss francs we
[976]
are now
[977]
paying your friend from our us dollar
[981]
account
[981]
to their u.s bank account and you can
[984]
track your
[985]
progress of your transfer here or you
[987]
can also just check your email because
[989]
they will keep you updated
[990]
um by email how uh
[993]
on the progress of your transfer and
[996]
that's basically that's basically it
[999]
that's basically how you
[1001]
carry out an international transfer
[1003]
using transferwise
[1004]
okay so i hope this video actually
[1006]
helped you out getting started with
[1007]
transferwise
[1008]
and for you to understand how
[1009]
transferwise actually works if it was in
[1012]
fact helpful make sure to give me a
[1013]
thumbs up on this video
[1015]
