[0]
hey how's it going oh yeah pretty good
[3]
yeah well we got here
[5]
Scarface Morgan Silver Dollar top 100
[7]
variety it's one of the cooler ones
[9]
it's got probably the coolest name
[11]
though say hello to my little friend I
[15]
have an 1888 Oh Morgan Dollars Scarface
[18]
variety that I'm coming into the pawn
[19]
shop looking to sell today it's about 19
[22]
of these in existence in a creative
[24]
human state I'm hoping to sell the
[27]
calling for $15,000 this is interesting
[31]
Morgan Silver Dollar to this day it's
[33]
the most popular collected coin in the
[34]
United States Morgan Silver Dollars that
[37]
came out in 1878 the reason why it's
[40]
called Morgan Dollars through the
[41]
engraver was named Morgan we basically
[43]
imported him from England because we
[45]
wanted prettier coins because they were
[48]
kind of block you know he's gotta be
[49]
honest about it so they called him and
[51]
he made this beautiful design and it
[54]
literally came out of the mint like this
[55]
by making silver dollars the government
[57]
would actually make money off the whole
[59]
thing so we wanted tons of silver
[61]
dollars in circulation so weighted coins
[66]
made you have the steel die on one side
[68]
and then let steel die in the other side
[69]
they put a planchette at the center so
[70]
machines start stamping them out really
[72]
quickly and the minted machine basically
[75]
broke and so Lady Liberty here has a
[77]
scar down her face it was basically a
[80]
mistake and then they replaced the dye
[81]
but the thing is some of these ended up
[83]
in the bags of silver dollars that were
[84]
going to banks and some of them actually
[86]
got out of circulation yeah so where'd
[90]
you get it I found it in a box actually
[92]
been sitting my collection about four
[94]
years I thought it was a scratch for
[95]
four years and did some research and
[97]
found out it's actually pretty rare it's
[99]
pretty rare I don't know how many exists
[101]
but it's less than hundred I have never
[103]
seen one of these things in person
[104]
before I've seen them in books and like
[106]
magazines things like that super cool
[108]
that you just ran across it so you
[109]
probably paid like 20 bucks for it I'll
[111]
plead the fifth all right so here's the
[115]
deal there's a weird marketing coins of
[118]
people who collect errors and this is
[120]
considered an error and it's like one of
[121]
the coolest errors the King in the areas
[123]
yeah they're pretty collectible did you
[127]
know how much you wanted a fifteen
[128]
thousand fifteen thousand dollars
[131]
I have no idea if that's the right price
[133]
normally I'm like a graded coin you
[135]
could just look it up and get a really
[137]
quick idea of the market value but when
[138]
you start talking rare weird stuff
[140]
there's not really a price guide I got a
[143]
friend who specializes just basically in
[145]
weird coins
[146]
so you mean minute I'll be right back
[148]
okay sure ah your little friend Wow
[154]
that's it that's a Scarface this is one
[157]
of the most significant of the errors of
[160]
Morgan dollars this one is particularly
[162]
expensive because it is just a huge die
[166]
break this die was probably literally
[168]
almost falling apart when this coin was
[170]
struck so you can tell from here to die
[173]
is broken almost all the way across so
[177]
there for acknowledged states of this
[180]
and collectors of these kinds of things
[183]
the more destruction the better if you
[185]
got this in their first die state it's a
[188]
125 dollar coin if you get it in the
[190]
final die state it's worth many
[192]
thousands this is a terminal die state
[194]
which means it's the most valuable so it
[198]
makes a big difference okay
[202]
so going off the fact that it's like a
[204]
terminal die stage
[205]
what's a worth it's a very very
[208]
specialized coin the collecting of
[210]
errors of Morgan dollars really was only
[212]
popularized in the last 30 years and
[214]
this one appeals to a very narrow
[218]
audience because they're so highly
[220]
individual they kind of go all over the
[223]
place in terms of pricing the record for
[225]
one of these is almost twenty thousand
[228]
and it was for one who's a little nicer
[230]
than this like a grade higher but these
[233]
things are very difficult to come up
[235]
with an exact price because in one
[237]
auction they'll bring a little more and
[239]
one auction or less and the market is
[242]
mellowed a little bit since then so this
[246]
is worth about $7,000
[250]
well thanks fun perfect thank you hey
[253]
congratulations thank you thank you I
[257]
mean I'd give you like 4500 for it I'm
[262]
gonna have to pass on that I've received
[264]
all freeze above that and I have no
[266]
desire to sell it it's part of my
[268]
collection so you've received offers of
[271]
more than $7,000
[276]
like go take it them okay alright the
[280]
other offer falls through and you want
[281]
4,500 bucks come and see me well death
[283]
create house
[284]
thank you bricks offers bargain basement
[287]
pricing 4500 is just too well I've had
[289]
in my collection for a few years I don't
[291]
need to sell it
[299]
you
