Up and Running with Peercoin - 06 Purchasing Bitcoins on LocalBitcoins - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[1]
OK, so now that the wallet is secure and we've had a little look at the
[4]
software that
[5]
Peercoin works with, I guess the next thing we want to do is make sure that we get some
[10]
Peercoins, because as you can see
[12]
our balance is 0. So let's go to the Peercoin
[16]
site to see a bit more information. So
[21]
if you go to ppcoin.org
[23]
then there's a wiki
[28]
and then in that wiki there's a list of services on market.
[33]
And in there, you can see the exchanges you can use to
[38]
buy PPC. So I don't know many
[42]
of these, like I think Vault of Satoshi is
[45]
based in Canada. But I
[49]
honestly don't know many of these and I don't know anywhere where I can directly..
[53]
I'm based in the UK, so I don't know anywhere I can directly buy
[56]
Peercoins using British pound.
[59]
So, I'll show you the way that I do. And that's by
[63]
buying Bitcoins, which are obviously the most famous of the
[67]
crypto-currencies, first and then
[70]
using the Bitcoins on the BTC-E exchange
[76]
to be able to purchase Peercoins.
[81]
So there are obviously loads of ways that you can
[85]
buy Bitcoins. So
[88]
on blockchain.info, which is a useful site
[93]
for Bitcoins,
[97]
if you go to the markets section here..
[102]
This here basically shows you some of the biggest exchanges for Bitcoins
[107]
You can see there's Bitstamp
[109]
and that's got a price of 355
[113]
US dollars for a Bitcoin.
[116]
Obviously, because I'm in the UK I'm looking to get an idea of generally how much it costs
[122]
in pounds. So, it's around 242 pounds now
[126]
in MtGox. Now
[129]
again, I don't know all the exchanges and so you
[132]
can use whatever exchange you want to be able to
[134]
convert your currency into Bitcoins
[138]
but I'm going to use one called LocalBitcoins.
[142]
So, LocalBitcoins.. Which basically puts you in touch with other
[148]
users to be able to buy Bitcoins near you.
[152]
They've got people selling Bitcoins in different locations. You
[157]
need to take a look if they got anyone near you
[159]
and whether they're accepting your currency
[160]
or you can convert your currency into another currency
[164]
if that somehow helps as an extra stage. But for me
[168]
I'm based in Brighton, United Kingdom
[171]
so you just go onto the site and you say I want to buy
[175]
Bitcoins. I'm going to use national bank transfer so
[179]
just find offers. So, when you click on that, there will be a list here
[183]
of people who are selling Bitcoins. Now, bearing in mind on MtGox it was around 240
[189]
obviously these are going to be higher than that
[192]
but you want to try and find someone that's reasonable.
[194]
So I'm going to look for all in British pounds.
[196]
If you haven't used this site before, then
[200]
the sellers are all listed here, the method of payment is listed here
[204]
and the price is here and the limits are here
[209]
and you can click on buy when you're ready.
[212]
But, yes, if they've got a green
[215]
bit it means that they're online or at least been online recently.
[219]
And these ones are online but like a little while ago.
[222]
So you want to find someone that's like more recently online. Then the first number
[226]
next to their name, is how many transactions..
[228]
I believe it's how many transactions they've done. And then
[232]
their feedback is next to them as well
[235]
So OK, well I'm going to have a little look for a cheaper price
[239]
but before I do that, I need to
[240]
sign up because I haven't got an account that I'm going to use so..
[244]
Put my username.. Put in
[248]
my email.. Put in a password..
[259]
OK. Enter that. And then
[269]
I'm going to try and click on that.
[275]
OK, so then I need to go to my emails
[278]
and verify the address.
[283]
OK, so once you've verified
[285]
your email, you'll get this activation successful.
[288]
I'm not going to tell them how I got it..
[292]
OK, so I've found this user here, jacklin123,
[297]
that's doing it at 268 and will accept like 10 pound's worth
[303]
so I'm going to try that and see if that works out.
[306]
In here just put how much you want to pay
[308]
and remember you need a, you know
[311]
this is going to be via bank transfer.
[314]
They'll have a number and contact hours and they're online at the moment.
[319]
So I'm going to put in 10 GBP
[325]
and then just send
[327]
trade request.
[335]
Then what will come up on the next page, is a page saying
[338]
how much you're buying, how much for
[340]
and then it'll give the details of their bank account to send
[343]
it, this payment to and a reference message.
[347]
So then just log in to your online bank.
[351]
Make sure that you can do Faster Payments with it,
[354]
if you're in the UK it's called Faster Payments,
[356]
but yes you just put in their sort code and account number
[359]
and send them the money and once you have, then you can click on mark payment
[364]
complete. So I'm going to go off and do that
[366]
and then I'll show you when I click payment complete.
[369]
OK so I've completed my
[371]
transaction in my bank account.
[373]
So I can come back to LocalBitcoins and
[377]
just clicking here on mark payment complete and then say
[382]
you declare that you've paid this person. So confirm
[388]
OK. So the seller's been notified, so now
[391]
just have to wait for them to receive the payment and then
[394]
basically, they've already given the Bitcoins to
[399]
LocalBitcoins into an escrow, whatever that is, but..
[402]
so LocalBitcoins have got them. So when the seller is happy he's got the..
[406]
he or she's got the money through, then they're going to send..
[411]
they're going to tell LocalBitcoins to release those funds. So now
[415]
it's just a case of waiting for that to happen. So I'm going to pause again and wait until
[419]
those funds have come through.
[422]
OK, once they've released your Bitcoins
[425]
then you should notice the screen asking
[428]
for your feedback on the user and also
[431]
importantly on.. you'll have.. in your wallet, you'll have the amount that you
[434]
bought. So I'm just going to leave some positive feedback saying
[437]
excellent and quick thanks!
[447]
Then update that. OK, so then let's go
[452]
and have a look in our wallet. So there we go,
[456]
we've got our Bitcoins. OK, so that's phase one, I've now got some Bitcoins
[460]
by buying it with my currency.
[463]
So the next stage and in the next video, I'm going to set up an account where I can buy
[468]
Bitcoins.. sorry buy
[472]
Peercoins using the Bitcoins and then take it on from there..
