馃幀 5 BEST FREE Video Editing Software - YouTube

Channel: unknown

[0]
Hi everyone, Kevin here.
[1]
Today I want to show you my聽 favorite top five free video editing聽聽
[7]
software and when I say free these truly are free.
[12]
There are no watermarks.
[13]
There are no time limitations.
[15]
None of that.
[15]
They're just entirely free,聽 and they're also pretty good.
[20]
When you compare them to聽 paid video editing software,聽聽
[23]
in many cases these are聽 just as good, if not better.
[27]
In fact, on my YouTube channel I use one of these聽聽
[31]
free video editors to pull together all of聽 my videos. As we're running through this,聽聽
[36]
if you decide you want to use one of these聽 video editors, I've included links in the聽聽
[41]
description down below that will give an聽 in-depth overview of how to get started.
[45]
All right, let's jump on the聽 PC and let's check these out.
[52]
This brings us to the first free video editor,聽 and this is probably one that you already have.
[59]
If you're running Windows 10,聽 Windows 10 comes with a video editor.
[64]
What, yes, it's true if you go down聽 to the search field on your taskbar,聽聽
[68]
simply type in video editor.聽 Who would have thought聽聽
[72]
and right up at the top as the best聽 match, you should see video editor.
[76]
Let's click into this one.
[77]
This drops us into the Windows 10聽 free video editor, and if you're聽聽
[82]
still scratching your head and wondering聽 how you ever missed, don't feel that bad.
[87]
It's very difficult to discover.
[89]
The video editor is actually within聽 the photos app and in the past you聽聽
[94]
had to open the photos app and then聽 you had to go into the video editor.聽聽
[98]
Only recently Microsoft added video editor聽 to the search field so it would pop up there.
[104]
Let's start with what I like about the聽 video editor, and there is a lot to like.
[109]
It comes with your PC, so you don't have聽 to download any other software to edit聽聽
[114]
videos. It's also extremely easy to use. Here聽 I can drag and drop some video files directly聽聽
[120]
into the video editor, and here I can use聽 this storyboard to pull together my video.
[124]
I simply drag and drop my different clips聽 down and my video starts to take shape.
[130]
Over here I have access to all of聽 the most common video editing tools.
[134]
You can trim, split, add text and the聽 list goes on with what you can do.聽聽
[139]
Up above, you also have聽 access to background music,聽聽
[142]
so here I could insert music and I can聽 even sync it to my video's music beat.
[146]
Over here, I could also insert custom audio.
[149]
Let's say I wanted to include voice over.聽聽
[151]
It has a lot of very nice functionality聽 and in a pinch this works extremely well.
[156]
So this sounds like a pretty good video editor.
[159]
Are there any downsides?
[161]
And unfortunately, there聽 are a few. Right down below,聽聽
[165]
one of the most glaring omissions is you聽 can't add any transitions between clips,聽聽
[170]
so all you could do is a hard cut between聽 two of your clips on the storyboard.
[175]
Also, because it uses a story board聽 layout that makes it very easy to use,聽聽
[179]
but you also don't have any tracks, so聽 let's say you want to do a picture in聽聽
[183]
picture effect or basically you want to聽 have one video play on top of the other.
[187]
Well, unfortunately you can't do that.
[189]
Also, we looked at this background music catalog聽 and you have a lot of songs you can insert.
[194]
However, if you upload your video to YouTube,聽聽
[197]
you won't be able to monetize聽 with any of those tracks.
[200]
Also, probably one of the biggest drawbacks.
[203]
Once you pull together your video and聽 you have your storyboard laid out,聽聽
[207]
when you go to export your video, the highest聽 quality that you can set it to is 1080P.
[213]
So let's say you have a new camera聽 that shoots at 4K. Unfortunately,聽聽
[217]
you won't be able to render your聽 video in the top-quality level.
[220]
All-in-all, the Windows 10 free video editor is聽 a decent option and you can pull together some聽聽
[225]
pretty nice videos, but the drawbacks are somewhat聽 of a dealbreaker, at least for me personally.
[231]
So let's jump onto the next free video editor.
[238]
And this brings us to number聽 2, the best free video editor,聽聽
[242]
and that is the OpenShot video editor.
[245]
You can download and install聽 it at OpenShot.org. It's free,聽聽
[249]
it's open source and you can install it on any聽 platform, whether it's Windows, Mac, or Linux.
[255]
Simply click on the download text right here.
[258]
Once you finish installing, this drops聽 you into the OpenShot video editor and聽聽
[263]
looking at this it looks pretty simple, but聽 yet it also has a lot of power under the hood.
[269]
Right here I can simply drag in video files聽 and they show up here under project files聽聽
[274]
and here I can simply drag and drop my聽 different files onto the timeline down below聽聽
[279]
and here now I have multiple tracks so I can聽 layer different items on top of one another.
[284]
If I pull in multiple items down onto the timeline聽聽
[288]
below, this is a big improvement聽 over the Windows 10 video editor.
[292]
Here I can insert transitions and there are聽聽
[295]
many different transitions that you can聽 choose from. Along with transitions,聽聽
[299]
you can also insert different effects聽 on top of your different media files.
[304]
As you start laying down all of your different聽 media files on the timeline down below,聽聽
[308]
you can preview the video over聽 here on the right-hand side.
[311]
Now I mentioned it looks very simple, but it聽 does also have some advanced capabilities.聽聽
[317]
Here you can right click on any one of聽 your media files and go into properties聽聽
[321]
and you can set different keyframes聽 and change the values on this clip.
[325]
So once again it also has a聽 lot of advanced functionality.
[329]
So, are there any drawbacks?
[331]
I mean it is free software聽 and it does quite a bit.
[334]
Well there is one. Here if I go up and聽 let's say you want to insert a title,聽聽
[338]
you can insert a standard title聽 just fine and this works well.
[342]
But there's also an option for an animated title,聽聽
[345]
which sounds neat, but here if you聽 select any one of them, you have聽聽
[349]
to install another application called Blender聽 which will allow you to do an animated title.
[354]
Now Blender is also a free application,聽 so it's kind of hard to complain,聽聽
[358]
but it is a little bit of extra friction聽 to be able to insert an animated title.
[363]
All-in-all, OpenShot is an excellent choice if you聽聽
[366]
want a simple but yet also聽 powerful free video editor.
[373]
This brings us to the next free video editing app聽聽
[377]
and this one is called Shotcut. You聽 can download this at Shotcut.org.聽聽
[383]
Once again for all of these video editors I've聽 included links in the description down below.
[388]
Shotcut is free, it's open source聽 and it works on all major platforms聽聽
[393]
including Windows, Mac and Linux.
[395]
To download this simply click on this, click聽 to download text on the top of the page.
[400]
Once you finish installing Shotcut, you'll聽 be prompted to create a new project.
[404]
Here I'll click on start and this聽 now drops us in the main interface.
[408]
Just like with the other apps, you聽 can drag and drop your media files聽聽
[412]
in and here now I see a playlist of all聽 of my files. Just like with the others,聽聽
[417]
you can select one of your files and you can聽 drag and drop it down onto the timeline below,聽聽
[422]
and here I can start pulling together my video.聽 With Shotcut, you can add any number of tracks.聽聽
[427]
Here I can right click and I can add additional聽 video tracks or additional audio tracks and here I聽聽
[433]
can drop in additional items. As my video starts聽 taking shape, here I can preview what it looks聽聽
[439]
like. Unlike the Windows 10 free video editor,聽 Shotcut supports a massive catalog of transitions.
[445]
Here I could simply come down to my track聽 and I can drag one of the items and position聽聽
[450]
it over the others and that'll聽 automatically insert a transition.聽聽
[453]
Here if I click into properties, I can聽 choose from many different transitions聽聽
[458]
similar to OpenShot. Along with inserting聽 transitions, I can also select one of these clips聽聽
[463]
and here I can click on filters and I can add a聽 massive catalog of different filters to this clip.
[469]
One other thing that I聽 really like about Shotcut is聽聽
[472]
depending on what you're working on, they聽 have different views optimized to that task.
[477]
Here, for instance, I'm currently in聽 the editing view which shows me the聽聽
[480]
timeline down below and the preview,聽 but I could also jump into an FX view.
[485]
Or maybe I want to do some color grading聽 so I can jump into the color view.
[488]
There's also an audio view and a player view if聽 I just want to review what my video looks like.
[493]
All-in-all, Shotcut is a very powerful聽 video editor, and when I look at all聽聽
[498]
the videos on my channel, I could use聽 Shotcut to pull any one of them together.
[502]
So, are there any drawbacks?
[504]
Well, Shotcut is a little bit聽 more complicated than the first聽聽
[508]
two video editors that we looked at, so聽 the learning curve is a little steeper,聽聽
[512]
so it really depends on how serious聽 you are about video editing.
[516]
If you really plan on creating some advanced聽 videos, this could be a good choice,聽聽
[520]
but if you really just maybe want聽 to pull together a simple video,聽聽
[523]
this might have a few more聽 capabilities than you really need.
[530]
This now brings us to the 4th free video editor聽聽
[534]
and this one is called kdenlive. You聽 can get it at the website kdenlive.org.
[540]
Once you land on the homepage, to download it,聽 you'll see a link right here and this works聽聽
[545]
cross platform, so whether you聽 have Windows, Mac or Linux,聽聽
[549]
and once again this is also an open-source聽 video editor, so it's completely free to use.聽聽
[555]
Choose your operating system and聽 then go ahead with the install.
[558]
This drops us into the main kdenlive interface,聽聽
[562]
and it looks pretty similar to the previous聽 few video editors that we looked at.
[566]
Over here on the left-hand side you can drag聽 and drop different files into the editor聽聽
[571]
and here too, just like we saw before,聽 you can drag the different items聽聽
[574]
down below onto the timeline and here too聽 you get multiple tracks on your timeline.
[579]
So here I could place them on the same track,聽 or I could place them on separate tracks.
[583]
One of the key differences you'll notice now that聽 I have two different ways I can view my video.聽聽
[589]
Right here, I can view the clips so I can聽 jump into a clip and I can preview that聽聽
[593]
and then I also have a聽 separate view of my project.
[597]
So here I can see two different clips聽 side by side. In terms of editing,聽聽
[601]
you have many different tools to edit your videos.
[604]
In fact, you have what's referred to as聽 normal mode, there's an overwrite mode,聽聽
[607]
so if you drag a clip down, it'll overwrite聽 the existing clip, or you could insert it.
[612]
They also have a wide variety of different editing聽 tools that you can use. Similar to Shotcut, there聽聽
[618]
are also views that are catered to what you're聽 doing or the task at hand. Up here, I'm currently聽聽
[624]
in the editing view, but let's say I want to work聽 on audio, I could shift into a dedicated audio聽聽
[628]
view. Or maybe I want to focus on effects. Or聽 maybe I want to focus on color grading my video.
[633]
There are views that specialize in each one of聽 those different tasks. Back on the main view,聽聽
[638]
I can also add many different transitions. Here聽 I have two different clips and if I click into聽聽
[643]
compositions, here I have all聽 of these different options.
[646]
Let's say I want to add a wipe聽 transition between clips. Here I聽聽
[649]
can insert it between these two clips聽 and that's now added a transition.
[654]
I could also choose from聽 many, many different effects聽聽
[657]
that I want to add on top of any one of my clips.
[660]
All-in-all, you can pull together some very聽 impressive and advanced videos using kdenlive,聽聽
[666]
although similar to Shotcut, one of the drawbacks聽 is you do have a lot of different options and a聽聽
[671]
lot of different controls so the learning curve聽 is a little bit steeper, however there are聽聽
[677]
lots of help resources online that will聽 help you get started with this video editor.
[685]
This now brings us to free video editor聽 number 5, and that's Davinci Resolve 17,聽聽
[691]
and this is the one that I personally use to pull聽 together all of my videos on my YouTube channel.
[697]
Davinci Resolve is a very impressive application.
[701]
In fact, many different TV studios or film studios聽聽
[704]
use Davinci Resolve to pull聽 together their projects.
[707]
Davinci Resolve is a freemium product.
[710]
What that means is you get most of the core or聽 foundational capabilities entirely for free;聽聽
[716]
however, if you want聽 additional effects or tracking,聽聽
[719]
it costs some money for those, but I've been聽 using the free version and I've been able to do聽聽
[724]
all of the editing that I want to get done. To聽 download Davinci Resolve 17, on this main site,聽聽
[730]
once again, the link is in the description,聽 scroll down and then click on download now.
[735]
When you click on download now聽 you'll have a few different options.聽聽
[738]
There is Davinci Resolve 17.聽 This is the most recent version.
[742]
You could also get an older version,聽 however I'd recommend going with the latest.
[746]
For Davinci Resolve 17, you have the standard聽 version, and there's the studio version.
[751]
The studio version is the pay version. If you聽 simply want to move forward with the free version,聽聽
[756]
select Davinci Resolve 17 and then select聽 your operating system right down here.
[761]
Davinci Resolve is a powerhouse video聽 editor. Here, just like the others,聽聽
[767]
you can pull your different media clips in and聽 here I can pull them down onto the timeline and聽聽
[772]
I could start organizing what my video looks聽 like. Right over here, I have a clip viewer and聽聽
[777]
then I also have my project viewer. Over here,聽 I can adjust all sorts of different settings聽聽
[782]
related to the video, the audio and different聽 effects or transitions that I decide to insert.
[787]
One of the really nice聽 things about Davinci Resolve聽聽
[790]
is I have all of these other applications聽 that are all part of Davinci Resolve.
[795]
Here I could load a view of all聽 of my different media files.
[798]
Here I have a dedicated cutting聽 view which makes it even easier聽聽
[801]
and quicker to cut your different video clips.
[804]
Here you have your standard editing聽 view, but also if I want to add any VFX,聽聽
[809]
I have a Fusion page where here I can add all聽 these different effects and I have a node view聽聽
[815]
where I can start pulling them together.聽 Over here I also have access to colors.聽聽
[820]
The color view in Davinci Resolve is one of the聽 industry leading ways that you can set color on聽聽
[826]
your video. Down below, I also have access to聽 something called Fairlight Audio and this is聽聽
[832]
a super powerful tool that you can use to adjust聽 the audio on your projects. With Davinci Resolve,聽聽
[839]
they bring together multiple, what could be聽 stand-alone applications, all into one interface,聽聽
[844]
so as you're pulling together your project, you聽 can very quickly jump between, say, the editing聽聽
[849]
view and then the VFX view using that clip. Out of聽 all of the video editors that we looked at today,聽聽
[855]
arguably, Davinci Resolve has some聽 of the most advanced functionality.
[859]
In terms of another application that's similar聽 to Davinci Resolve, you have Hitfilm Pro and聽聽
[865]
then you also have Adobe premiere, and those聽 are comparable to what Davinci Resolve offers.
[871]
But what's great about Davinci Resolve is it's聽 entirely free to start using, and only some of the聽聽
[876]
features are behind a paywall. Overall, Davinci聽 Resolve is an excellent choice, and that's why聽聽
[882]
I use it as my primary editor. Although the one聽 downside is it has a very steep learning curve.
[889]
In fact, anytime I use this video editor, I feel聽 like I'm constantly learning new things about it,聽聽
[894]
but that's also what makes it so exciting.
[896]
What you can do with this聽 tool is pretty much limitless.
[902]
We've looked at a lot of fantastic and free聽 video editors today, but I did want to call聽聽
[907]
out some other noteworthy free video editors聽 beyond the five that we already looked at,聽聽
[912]
one of them is the VSDC video editor, and this聽 is also a freemium video editor, so you get聽聽
[919]
most of the core functionality for free,聽 but then a few items are behind a paywall.
[924]
This is also a good option.
[925]
There's also Hitfilm Express, and this is similar聽 to Davinci Resolve in terms of what you can do.
[931]
This also follows a freemium model聽 where you get most functionality聽聽
[935]
for free and then you can upgrade if聽 you want to unlock more functionality.
[940]
And lastly another great video editor is called聽 Videopad and this is made by NCH Hardware.
[946]
Now it is free for home use, but you do get an聽 annoying notification that tells you and always聽聽
[951]
reminds you that you're on the free version. There聽 are also some limitations like you could only聽聽
[956]
insert so many audio tracks, they limit the number聽 of plugins, but once again for a free video editor聽聽
[961]
this also works fairly well. All right, well聽 that was a quick look at my favorite free video聽聽
[967]
editors. Let me know down below in the comments聽 which one are you going to use moving forward.
[973]
If you want to see more videos like this聽 in the future, please consider subscribing.
[976]
All right, well that's all I have for you today.
[979]
I hope you enjoyed and as always,聽 I hope to see you next time, bye.
