Ways To Play The Rise In Crude With Oil Stocks: FANG, EOG, DVN, CVX - YouTube
Channel: TD Ameritrade Network
[0]
let's talk some stock pinks with
[1]
victoria greene back with us founding
[3]
partner and portfolio manager at
[5]
g-square private wealth victoria welcome
[7]
back to the show you've got energy
[9]
stocks
[10]
several of them in the list of companies
[12]
you like right now and you call them
[13]
aggressive plays
[15]
okay tell us why
[17]
yeah so some of the the stocks i'm
[19]
talking about i consider them more
[20]
aggressive because they're exploration
[22]
and production emp stocks and they're a
[24]
little bit on the smaller side but as
[26]
you're looking at this commodity uh
[28]
increase right now and where oil prices
[30]
and natural gas prices are headed i
[32]
think there's a lot of upward pressure
[33]
and oil and at least it's not about to
[35]
fall apart
[36]
so we're looking at names like devon
[39]
devon eog diamondback
[42]
and we're looking at them if you want a
[43]
lot of exposure to price sensitivity and
[46]
commodities i think they're some of the
[47]
best plays on the street right now to
[49]
make sure you have your exposure to
[51]
upside and oil and gas prices
[53]
i mean look i think it's sinking in
[54]
natural gas is going to be expensive
[56]
this winter you know you look at what's
[57]
happening at the uk you look at most
[59]
forecasts we're supposed to be in about
[61]
a million two barrel deficit in october
[64]
and yeah opec might step back in and
[66]
start playing a little dirty but so far
[68]
they've been very very slow at reducing
[70]
their supply cuts and the market is
[72]
still an imbalance
[75]
i really like uh the small cap enp tilt
[78]
that you're taking here with the label
[80]
aggressive we had a conversation with
[82]
nick coles from datatrek yesterday whose
[85]
favorite pick was the psce etf which is
[89]
small caps
[90]
energy and enp companies so he also
[93]
labeled them as spicy was his word spicy
[96]
trades so everybody agrees that this is
[98]
the way you get beta basically to the
[101]
sector and the commodity i guess purely
[103]
right
[104]
it's a little bit of a trend following
[106]
momentum play right now and we look at
[108]
this and say one delta seems to have
[110]
peaked which is a great sign for
[111]
everybody yes uh deaths are still high
[113]
but it looks like the
[115]
seven day average and the the general
[117]
trends have hopefully peaked um delta
[120]
coming back down is obviously great for
[122]
economic consumption uh great for the
[124]
world getting back to work
[126]
and then you look at some of the uh
[128]
supply constraints and especially what
[130]
you're seeing in the uk and i think
[132]
everybody's realizing hey this uh this
[134]
upward pressure in oil prices along with
[136]
the general commodities market is not
[138]
going away anytime soon and sure we're
[140]
watching other factors a strong dollar
[142]
isn't fantastic for oil and commodities
[144]
but you know that trend may roll over a
[146]
little bit and we're also uh making sure
[149]
that we we stay aware of what's
[150]
happening in politics you know we're
[152]
going to see a lot happen over the next
[154]
30 days
[155]
but i think surely if you look at this
[157]
trend and say hey we're in a bit of an
[159]
upward momentum uh the the smaller and
[161]
the higher beta is a great way to short
[163]
term play it you just have to be aware
[164]
of if the trend flips um you might get a
[167]
little burned
[168]
what's the uh washington
[171]
read through for energy companies in
[173]
particular what do you think they need
[176]
as part of this bull thesis or can they
[179]
just kind of ride on their own with this
[182]
inflationary crude momentum how
[185]
important is the dc side in terms of new
[187]
incremental
[188]
catalyst
[190]
sure so
[191]
historically energy is a great inflation
[193]
offset energy encyclicals are a great
[195]
place to be and value tends to be the
[197]
best place to be during inflationary
[199]
periods but the things we're watching is
[201]
one the new tax plan uh there are some
[204]
sections in that that kind of target the
[205]
energy industry and we and it's still
[207]
being hashed out the sausage is still
[210]
being made yes the ways and means
[211]
committee came out with some proposals
[213]
but we all know it's not really all said
[215]
and done until the president's signature
[217]
is on the dotted line so i do think
[219]
we'll see some changes but there's
[221]
potential for taxation changes on energy
[223]
companies and a couple other different
[224]
sectors you're seeing the lobbyists uh
[226]
earn their their earn their keep this uh
[229]
this month as they try to protect their
[231]
interest and then we also look at what
[233]
may happen with the ev credits and and
[235]
how they're um subsidizing that uh
[238]
obviously if the 3.5 comes through and
[240]
they're substantial for the electric
[242]
vehicle market that puts a little bit of
[244]
long-term pressure on energy but i'll
[246]
remind everybody that is a slow trend
[249]
we're at about a two percent ev
[252]
market share if you look around our
[254]
current automotive industry um the
[256]
highest is europe at 10 and it's taking
[258]
them a while to get there china's about
[260]
five percent adoption we're two percent
[262]
so some of the ev pressure i think you
[265]
have to realize that is a long-term play
[267]
on the potential pressures to oil and
[269]
gas which is one reason i think you're
[271]
seeing the prices rally is there's this
[273]
realization ev is coming but it's it's a
[276]
long way off yeah
[277]
not enough right now to
[280]
thin the lines at the gas stations at
[282]
two percent gonna cut it for people who
[284]
got to be on the move right now
[286]
definitely a wake up that this is still
[288]
a gas guzzling world victoria thanks for
[291]
the take here on the energy companies
[293]
really like it aggressive for the small
[295]
cap
[296]
enps thank you
[298]
not a problem all right victoria green
