KYC short for know your customer has been聽 slowly taking over the cryptocurrency space聽聽
[4]
it's becoming significantly more difficult聽 for somebody to buy cryptocurrency without聽聽
[8]
giving up their personal information know your聽 customer is basically the process of identifying聽聽
[14]
and verifying the identity of a client so common聽 ways to do this is by asking a named birthdate or聽聽
[20]
a copy of a government issued id the supposed聽 reason for this is the prevention of criminal聽聽
[25]
activity like money laundering but is it really聽 a good idea to give away our privacy like that聽聽
[30]
so why do i think that privacy is important聽 well first of all it's a qualified human right聽聽
[36]
and most of the times when i mention privacy to聽 people they say they don't really care about it聽聽
[41]
because they have nothing to hide well there's all聽 sorts of examples that illustrate the importance聽聽
[45]
of privacy like why else would you close your聽 curtains at night but in reality that sentence聽聽
[51]
saying that you don't care about it because you聽 have nothing to hide implies that there are two聽聽
[55]
kinds of people good people and bad people聽 your definition of bad can be something like聽聽
[61]
violence criminals bank robbers thieves or聽 whatever but the definition of bad for the聽聽
[67]
people in power or like government for example聽 can be something completely different their聽聽
[73]
definition of bad person could be somebody who聽 questions their authority basically privacy isn't聽聽
[78]
about hiding something it's about protecting聽 something people who are in a bad position who聽聽
[84]
don't have access to banking services or money聽 in general were given an opportunity with bitcoin聽聽
[89]
i'm thinking about farmers who live in a country聽 that was torn apart by war people who don't have聽聽
[94]
access to banking services people who don't聽 have access to a government-issued id victims聽聽
[100]
of hyperinflation and so on the more regulations聽 that get pushed on cryptocurrency and bitcoin the聽聽
[105]
further we stray from the original id and the more聽 difficult it will become for people like this to聽聽
[111]
have access to money bitcoin is often seen as an聽 anonymous payment network but in reality the way聽聽
[117]
bitcoin works is actually quite transparent all聽 the transactions that were ever made are public聽聽
[123]
traceable and permanently stored on blockchain聽 so how can you protect your identity while using聽聽
[128]
bitcoin well in order to send and receive bitcoin聽 you will need to create a digital wallet you can聽聽
[133]
compare this to your bank account which you give聽 to friends if they need to give you money and the聽聽
[138]
thing about this wallet address if we look on the聽 blockchain and we check a transaction we can see聽聽
[143]
a from address and an amount and a two address聽 but we don't know who that address belongs to聽聽
[150]
so as long as you don't link your identity to your聽 wallet nobody will know that's you so once you've聽聽
[155]
created your wallet you will now be able to send聽 and receive bitcoin so imagine that you would want聽聽
[160]
to buy some bitcoin well the most common way to聽 do this is by going to one of the major exchanges聽聽
[166]
and buy bitcoin through them but in order to use聽 the services of one of these major exchanges you聽聽
[171]
will have to go to a kyc process first this can聽 involve giving your name address and sometimes聽聽
[176]
even a copy of a government-issued id this is an聽 alleged attempt to prevent criminal behavior like聽聽
[182]
money laundering but of course it carries聽 some risks with it a big risk could be聽聽
[186]
data breaches if a hacker manages to get access聽 to one of these exchanges database he could聽聽
[192]
easily obtain all your personal information聽 another risk is that people who are in a difficult聽聽
[197]
situation and who not necessarily have all the聽 required documents are being denied access to聽聽
[203]
cryptocurrency another big risk has to do with聽 how the blockchain works i've told you before聽聽
[208]
that we can check the blockchain and see all the聽 transactions that ever happened with every bitcoin聽聽
[213]
so imagine that you bought one bitcoin through an聽 exchange and your identity is now linked to that聽聽
[218]
bitcoin so now imagine that way up the chain聽 let's say one year ago that bitcoin was used in a聽聽
[223]
criminal activity if the police comes across that聽 transaction that happened in the past the one with聽聽
[229]
the criminal activity they can follow that bitcoin聽 all the way up the chain and come across you and聽聽
[235]
this will be reason enough for them to demand all聽 your personal information from that exchange and聽聽
[242]
probably that exchange will just give it to them聽 on top of that in some countries this might be聽聽
[247]
reason enough to issue a search warrant or to even聽 spy on you so needless to say this is a privacy聽聽
[254]
disaster that can lead to dire consequences聽 these are just a couple of reasons why i think聽聽
[260]
privacy is so important and that's why today i'm聽 going to show you how you can buy cryptocurrency聽聽
[265]
kyc free luckily for us there's a website that聽 lists exchanges that don't require a kyc process聽聽
[271]
it's called kycnot.me the exchange that we will be聽 using today is huddle huddle it's a peer-to-peer聽聽
[277]
bitcoin trading platform that allows users to聽 trade directly with each other so how does huddle聽聽
[283]
hold all work well the first step you take is聽 creating an account the only requirement for this聽聽
[288]
is a working email address once you've created聽 your account and you verified it through mail you聽聽
[292]
can start buying bitcoin in the top left part of聽 the website you can see the option to buy bitcoin聽聽
[298]
once you've clicked on that you arrive on this聽 page where you see all the potential offers聽聽
[302]
there's also this filter with the payment methods聽 and as you can see there's a lot you can do bank聽聽
[307]
transfers credit cards paypal venmo western union聽 gift cards cryptocurrency and the list goes on聽聽
[313]
there's also the option to create an offer so when聽 you create an offer it's possible to announce to聽聽
[318]
potential sellers that you're willing to buy聽 bitcoin at a specific price it's also possible聽聽
[323]
to follow an exchange rate in this example i've聽 selected finance and it's possible to specify聽聽
[328]
how much more you want to pay than market price聽 one thing that immediately caught my eye when聽聽
[333]
you're using a peer-to-peer platform like this is聽 that the prices in general are a little bit more聽聽
[338]
expensive so you have to look around a little聽 bit in order to find market price bitcoin or聽聽
[343]
maybe find something like one or two percent more聽 expensive what's important to me is that we have聽聽
[348]
the choice everybody can choose what kind of聽 bitcoin they buy be it on an exchange that聽聽
[355]
requires you to go through a kyc process it's just聽 important to me that the option to buy kyc free is聽聽
[361]
there then it's up to you the user to decide how聽 important privacy is for you so anyway back to聽聽
[367]
hodon hollow imagine that you found a good deal聽 how would it work exactly basically everything聽聽
[372]
you need to know is explained in the following聽 paragraph so when you found a seller and you try聽聽
[378]
to buy from him a contract will be created between聽 the two parties so hold the huddle will generate聽聽
[384]
a multi-sig escrow bitcoin address the seller聽 will then send this bitcoin from his wallet to聽聽
[390]
this account created by huddle huddle and when聽 the bitcoin is locked in escrow the buyer sends聽聽
[396]
fiat to the seller the seller then releases the聽 log bitcoin from escrow using his payment password聽聽
[403]
and the buyer receives them into his wallet so聽 what does that mean well hudal huddle will create聽聽
[409]
a locked bitcoin address the seller will send his聽 bitcoin to that address then we wait until the聽聽
[416]
buyer sends money to the seller once the seller聽 has received that money he will unlock the bitcoin聽聽
[421]
that is in that locked account and then the buyer聽 will instantly receive the bitcoin he tried to buy聽聽
[428]
you might wonder what they mean with a multisig聽 escrow account well basically this is just聽聽
[432]
a regular bitcoin address but it is locked so you聽 need at least two keys to open this in the case聽聽
[440]
of this trade there will be three keys the seller聽 has a key the buyer has a key and although huddle聽聽
[445]
has a key this ensures that only when an agreement聽 is reached that the locked funds will be unlocked聽聽
[451]
in case that there's a dispute so imagine that聽 the seller has received money from the buyer and聽聽
[457]
he doesn't unlock the bitcoin it's locked in there聽 well in that case the buyer would file a dispute聽聽
[464]
and he would contact huddle huddle if he can prove聽 what happened and the support manager from hotel聽聽
[471]
hotel approves everything then that manager can聽 use his key together with the key of the buyer聽聽
[477]
and they can unlock the bitcoin that's in the聽 locked address so that's in a nutshell how you聽聽
[482]
can buy bitcoin kyc free using a peer-to-peer聽 platform there's multiple platforms out there聽聽
[488]
and another noteworthy one is bisque bisque is a聽 decentralized exchange that uses a peer-to-peer聽聽
[493]
network to buy and sell crypto the reason that聽 they use total huddle as an example is because聽聽
[498]
it's so simple bisque is also relatively simple聽 but it requires you to download a client so that's聽聽
[505]
why i've chosen the most simplistic methods to use聽 as an illustration so now you know why privacy is聽聽
[511]
important and how you can buy kyc free bitcoin the聽 only thing that you still need is a decent wallet聽聽
[518]
there's multiple wallets out there but one聽 that i really like is the samurai wallet the聽聽
[523]
samurai wallet is described on their website as聽 a modern bitcoin wallet hand forged to keep your聽聽
[528]
transactions private your identity masked and your聽 funds secured it's a wallet that you can use on聽聽
[534]
your phone and it's really simple to use you just聽 go to their website click on the download page聽聽
[539]
and here you can download the android apk or you聽 can even just download it to the google play store聽聽
[546]
so one more question you might have is that if you聽 already bought bitcoin through a kyc platform what聽聽
[552]
do you do then well basically there's two options聽 you can take the first one basically is that you聽聽
[558]
get rid of all the bitcoin that you bought through聽 a kyc platform and you just start fresh you buy聽聽
[564]
new bitcoin to non-kyc platforms there's one thing聽 to keep in mind with this method and that is that聽聽
[570]
in most countries selling bitcoin is a taxable聽 event so you gotta be careful that you don't lose聽聽
[576]
too much money by doing this action again it's up聽 to you to decide how important privacy is for you聽聽
[582]
i can understand that this option isn't really聽 attractive for everybody and that brings me to聽聽
[588]
option two you can basically just hold all the聽 bitcoin that you've bought to a kyc exchange聽聽
[594]
and keep it in a certain wallet then create a聽 new wallet where you um will store all the future聽聽
[600]
bitcoin that you will buy to a non-kyc exchange so聽 basically the second option is the separation of聽聽
[607]
your bitcoin and i also have to add that there are聽 some more advanced techniques like coinjoin and聽聽
[613]
using mixers but these are a little bit outside聽 of the scope of this video i also have to add that聽聽
[619]
the most secure way to interact with your bitcoin聽 is by creating your own node this will allow you聽聽
[625]
to verify your own transactions and on top of that聽 use an air gapped hardware wallet but again these聽聽
[631]
options are a bit more for advanced users but i聽 just wanted to make you aware of the options that聽聽
[637]
exist so and that brings us to our conclusion i聽 want to start by saying that i condemn criminal聽聽
[643]
activity through bitcoin i even want to take it聽 one step further and say that i condemn criminal聽聽
[649]
activity in general people will always find a way聽 to abuse a technology or a system be it by using聽聽
[656]
cash digital money or even bitcoin it just can't聽 become an excuse to take away our privacy bitcoin聽聽
[663]
was created as a decentralized peer-to-peer way聽 to send money and thanks to the software a lot of聽聽
[670]
people were given opportunities a good example for聽 the need of easy access to cryptocurrency would be聽聽
[676]
the situation in somalia a couple of years ago the聽 uk decided not to allow bank remittances services聽聽
[682]
to somalia anymore people were sending money聽 through this service and once they weren't able聽聽
[687]
to do this anymore the country started to starve聽 forty percent of their population according to聽聽
[692]
this article were relying on the service uh for聽 food and medicine and that's where the beauty of聽聽
[697]
bitcoin comes in it doesn't discriminate everybody聽 that has the required hardware can set up a wallet聽聽
[702]
and start using bitcoin to send it worldwide聽 if we give up a right for privacy we will kill聽聽
[708]
innovation and keep poor people poor alright聽 so that was it for this video i hope you guys聽聽
[714]
understand why i think privacy is so important聽 now and why i think bitcoin should stay kyc free聽聽
[721]
before i end the video i want to give a shout out聽 to bitcoin q a be sure to check out their twitter聽聽
[726]
they have some great information about bitcoin and聽 privacy the following website that was created by聽聽
[731]
them basically has all the information you would聽 need to know about privacy and bitcoin i really聽聽
[737]
hope that people found this video interesting聽 and that the importance of privacy is a little聽聽
[742]
bit more clear in general i'm really curious to聽 see what you guys think about cryptocurrency and聽聽
[748]
privacy and the whole kyc situation please leave聽 a comment and let me know what your thoughts are聽聽
[753]
on the subject i also have a discord server i'll聽 leave a link to that in the description here we聽聽
[758]
talk about cryptocurrency and the stock market in聽 general we can also talk about privacy of course聽聽
[765]
i want to thank you guys for watching聽 please leave a like and subscribe and bye
[783]
