What Actually Shows Up In An Employment Verification Check - YouTube

Hey there, cultivator! Welcome come back to my channel!
[2]
Have you ever wondered what exactly gets verified during the employment
[6]
verification process? After you've accepted an offer letter?
[9]
I have a lot of job seekers who come to me and they get really concerned and
[14]
worried because they omitted information on their resume.
[17]
Maybe they found themselves laid off or they got fired,
[21]
or they found themselves in a position less than six months.
[24]
And they're worried about being perceived as a job hopper or perhaps it just
[28]
wasn't a good fit.
[29]
And they're worried that when the future organization calls upon these past
[34]
employers, they aren't necessarily going to be singing their praises.
[38]
So they're wondering,
[39]
is it okay to leave off certain employment information when it comes down
[44]
to the wire. In this video,
[46]
I'll be breaking down exactly what the employment verification is and why it's
[50]
so important to employers. And then we'll talk about exactly what gets verified.
[55]

[79]
Let's talk about what the employment verification process is and why it's so
[82]
important to employers. So up until now,
[85]
you probably are a stranger to this new organization.
[89]
They may have never worked with you before,
[91]
and they have to take what you've put out there and represented as face
[96]
value because they don't know you.
[98]
And because we've all heard of those tales in the past where, you know,
[102]
a CEO has been fired or let go,
[104]
because they lied about the university that they attended or completely made up
[109]
a degree.
[110]
A lot of companies just want to know that they can trust you for who it is that
[114]
you say you are.
[115]
And so the best way to do this is with an employment verification process.
[120]
So let's switch gears here and talk about what is happening on the backend.
[124]
So you've accepted the offer.
[126]
Now it's time to go through the employment verification process and either the
[130]
company has had an application that you've already filled out online.
[134]
You've signed it. You've said all of this is accurate and true. And boom,
[138]
like that is what they're going to use to verify the information as they call
[142]
the different companies and schools that you attended. Now,
[146]
a lot of times companies also outsource this part to companies such as
[151]
HireRight, which is a very popular one.
[152]
And sometimes those companies will have you fill out your own profile all over
[157]
again, or fill out an application.
[158]
And so that's what they're going to be using to verify what you've submitted is
[162]
accurate and complete.
[163]
The important thing to note here is that they're not verifying your resume or
[167]
your LinkedIn profile. At the end of the day, those are marketing tools.
[171]
You're marketing yourself a certain way.
[173]
It's not necessarily this legally binding documents that the applications
[178]
are. So just FYI, because I get a lot of those questions from job seekers.
[183]
Do I need to include this? I was there for a short stint or, you know,
[186]
my titles don't necessarily match up,
[188]
or I clustered all of these jobs together. That's okay.
[192]
Your resume and your LinkedIn are very separate from what is actually being
[195]
verified. So switching gears to what is being verified, essentially,
[199]
when a company is calling your previous employers,
[203]
they want to verify three things. One,
[205]
did you actually indeed work for this company? And what was your title?
[209]
What was your dates of employment? When did you start to, when did you end?
[213]
And a fourth that sometimes gets asked is, are you eligible for rehire?
[218]
And that's a yes or no question. When it comes to education,
[220]
what is typically being verified is you actually graduated from the
[225]
college and university that you said you did.
[227]
What was the years that you attended and what was the degree that you walked
[231]
away with? And sometimes what is the GPA that you graduated with?
[235]
So knowing that these are the key pieces that are being verified,
[238]
you want to make sure that whatever you're including on the application is 100%
[243]
accurate to what they're going to hear on the other side of the phone when they
[247]
verify. If you're not entirely sure, you're fuzzy about some details.
[251]
You're unclear about the last official title that you had at the company,
[255]
pick up the phone and call HR and let them know, you know, here's my situation.
[259]
I want to make sure that during the employment verification,
[262]
what I've submitted is accurate.
[264]
Can you tell me the answers to these following questions? So just to recap,
[268]
at the end of the day,
[269]
all they're doing is verifying what you have submitted in terms of the
[273]
information.
[274]
And they're verifying that what you have submitted is 100% accurate to what
[279]
they've obtained. And if there's any misinformation, there's any discrepancies,
[283]
there's going to be a red flag in your file.
[286]
And basically they're going to start examining your background under a
[290]
microscope. So to avoid all of that and eliminate that,
[293]
you just want to make sure that your facts is 100% true and you'll
[298]
avoid any delays in the hiring process. Again,
[301]
this is all companies really have to go off of to understand whether or not
[306]
you're representing yourself accurately.
[308]
You just want to make sure that you're putting your best foot forward in the
[311]
process. I hope you found this video helpful. If you liked it and enjoyed it,
