Channel: unknown
[5]
- You're on the right path,
[6]
it's just kinda like, hmm...
[8]
- We live so financially strapped.
[10]
- I have a different view, like,
[11]
I don't think we live
financially strapped.
[13]
- I need to set up a retirement fund.
[25]
- Thank you for coming today,
[26]
'cause I really wanted
all of you to be here,
[28]
so that we could have this conversation
[30]
that I think is really important.
[32]
- I think we need to have conversations
[33]
around finances that, you know,
[35]
we have not had to this point.
[37]
- So, are y'all cool with that?
[39]
- Alright, sounds good.
(all agreeing, laughing)
[46]
- What will be some advice
that you guys can give to me
[48]
to prepare for my future, I mean,
[49]
you guys are older.
[50]
- Oh, you're calling us
old, thanks. (chuckling)
[53]
- What stuff should I take?
[54]
- Save your money, you never know
[55]
what's gonna happen tomorrow.
[57]
- You need to start a savings,
and continue to add on to it.
[62]
- And it is enough to be alive, think.
[63]
- Yeah.
[64]
- 'Cause you're young, you
can set aside a little bit.
[66]
- But you're gonna have
to make sacrifices,
[68]
and start planning for the future.
[70]
(speaking foreign language)
[74]
(speaking foreign language)
[81]
- I think I'm better at
spending than saving.
[83]
(all laughing)
[84]
- I think so.
[85]
- Yeah, I think so, too.
[90]
- What do the two of
you think our plans are
[96]
for our inheritance?
[98]
- My assumption has always been that most,
[100]
the majority of your
money goes to the church.
[103]
- I don't think either of us
have assumed we're gonna come
[106]
into money when you guys die.
[107]
- There'll be some, there will be some.
[109]
- Yeah, but, I just don't think that...
[111]
(all laughing)
[112]
- Yeah, there'll be some.
[113]
- Are you saying that it's gonna be more?
[115]
(all laughing)
[116]
- Yeah, what are you leading into?
[118]
- We don't know.
[119]
- No, we don't know.
[120]
- Is there $400,000
buried in the backyard?
[122]
(all chuckling)
[127]
- If you guys had the chance
to do something differently
[130]
in your lives, what would you do?
[132]
- I would invest more, 'cause I just think
[134]
with Pete's salary and
the money he was making
[137]
we could have had a lot more.
[138]
- I think for me, I was a
freelancer for so much of my 20's
[143]
that I probably would
have talked to somebody
[145]
about how to manage
that type of lifestyle,
[148]
because, even though it
wasn't consistent income,
[150]
it was still income,
[152]
and I could have been
doing a lot more with it.
[154]
- What is it that you would
like us to be prepared for,
[156]
that would make you feel
[157]
like we're living a more
comfortable lifestyle.
[159]
- I think taking care of
our debt is the main thing.
[162]
- When I think of debt,
[163]
I never think of the mortgage as the debt.
[165]
It is debt, I guess,
[166]
now that you're pointing
it out, you're right.
[168]
- Being stuck in debt, it
really scares me, it does.
[171]
- So, maybe our strategy needs to be
[172]
that we open the checkbook together,
[174]
and pay the bills so that
we're on the same page
[176]
in terms of what we feel is debt,
[178]
and what we feel we're paying down,
[180]
or not paying down enough.
[181]
- Right.
[182]
- Do you have financial advisors?
[184]
- I have nothing, I need to
set up a retirement fund.
[187]
- Oh, you still don't have the 401(k)?
[189]
- I'm living by the seat of my
pants right now, guys, it's..
[192]
- Whoa.
[193]
- I have a wife that's
a doctor, so that helps.
[195]
(all laughing)
[201]
- What would be you guy's
[203]
number one financial concern for us?
[206]
- My number one concern
would be education.
[209]
- Yeah.
[210]
- I know that is very expensive.
[212]
As time goes on, it's
gonna continue to rise.
[216]
- When I think about Ava,
[217]
I want to make sure that
she's taken care of and
[220]
she has a great education and that
[222]
we're able to provide that for her.
[224]
- I mean, if you need help,
[226]
and we can help you, we will help you.
[233]
- My hope for our
family's future is for us
[238]
to have these sit-downs and concentrate
[241]
on what is important to us.
[244]
I think we got a, kind of
a good understanding of
[247]
what we stand, and what we
need to do to go forward.
[251]
I'm glad we could have
the conversation because
[254]
who knows when we would have had it
[255]
if we didn't do this, and it's
given us lots to think about.
[259]
- You both have been very
open with us, and that's,
[262]
you know, I think that's something that
[263]
we definitely cherish together.
