Hey there. It’s Hockey Stigg and today we will take a look at new Bauer stick which made a splash in social networks.
[7]
Wile we are preparing the stick, subscribe and have a nice watching. Here we go.
[17]
Let’s see what we will get from the stick.
[20]
Well, we start preparing the stick for ice.
[23]
There is a lot of fancy ways of taping this stick in the Internet, but I will not show off.
[28]
I will go with classical way. As I do it normally, I will tape the stick from the toe to the hill fully covering blade.
[35]
As a bonus I will answer an interesting question if the tape rips up at the blade hole.
[42]
I think Bauer should anticipate it but let’s try and find out themselves.
[50]
let's try
[56]
It’s some odd filling because fingers get into the hole.
[64]
this is a feature of this hook
[72]
And one more essential detail that I will tell you about later.
[78]
It is motto: Money don’t score a goal.
[81]
Get the stick longer.
[92]
I bought a composite end plug.
[95]
It is lightweight and should not affect overall stick weight.
[105]
Let’s try, hope we won’t need tape.
[111]
Nope, we need tape anyway.
[116]
It will be tighter.
[121]
Get a mark.
[123]
But I will cut it off crookedly as usual.
[130]
The final stage before to go on ice is a handle taping.
[133]
Not everyone likes my way of taping but this is my choice and it is comfortable for me.
[146]
Well, we are on ice. Will check its features.
[148]
I don’t doubt that 430 USD stick, and it is its main minus, it is really expensive,
[155]
will give you maximum. We will try and find out.
[160]
We will start from passing.
[162]
I have ridden opinion that pass can be affected due to hole in the blade.
[169]
I doubt it but let’s see.
[171]
Some passes.
[207]
Stick give and take passes but mainly it depends on your hands.
[210]
But first impression, as I said about flex, it is some soft for me.
[221]
And maybe it will be pro for wrist shots and con for slap shots.
[229]
Let’s do some wrist shots.
[238]
I have seen a lot of sticks surveys where accuracy was measured by hitting of a top corner but if we face a truth accuracy depends on your skill.
[248]
Of course stick gives you some advantages but they are not such sufficient.
[252]
In sake of interest I set 5 pucks, let's see how many times I will hit the top corner.
[260]
My aim is left top corner.
[264]
One, two, three
[268]
oops
[274]
3 hits, one puck I could not rise and once I missed.
[280]
3 hits in total, but again, if it is 50 dollars stick or 430 dollars stick mainly it depends on your hands, but about it later.
[287]
If I check out characteristics of the stick carefully, the stick is hard in the middle and it has 2 flex points,
[296]
but I can mistake. I think, we will see on slow-mo that bottom part is flexing during wrist shot.
[305]
Finalizing I can say that it shots. It’s soft, 87 flex, I some enlarge it and the stick got some softer.
[315]
Now flexes tend to get lower, many professionals take lower flex; amateurs, what seems logical, take lower flexes as well in order to study a wrist shot.
[329]
The lower flex, the simpler to make a shot. Of course it should follow common sense.
[333]
Thus it allows to make a nice wrist shot. Now we get to one-timer. It is very interesting for me how the stick works for it.
[341]
And I need some help, Vlaaad…
[344]
Maybe you payed attention, it's written on my stick: Money don’t score a goal.
[349]
I don’t give a dig to Bauer, it is just a lesson for you.
[352]
The most expensive equipment doesn’t make you stronger, only due to hard work you will get stronger.
[360]
Just work!
[361]
Would I buy a stick for 430 dollars? Of course, I wouldn’t.
[365]
Everyone likes Ovechkin, but I place myself into Kucherov’s office – left face-off point.
[371]
Vlad gives me a pass and I will make a snap shot, element which we studied in the video with Panarin.
[378]
Here we go.
[388]
*almost killed me
[394]
We’ve made quite enough shots but general conclusion I will make some later.
[399]
Now I will do some stick handling drills to see how it is good in puck control.
[409]
I remember, I am doing it in a mask, I don’t have peripherical vision and that why I have to drop my head. This is for comments
[431]
Puck control is adequate, I did not reveal any new perceptions.
[437]
Speaking about one-timers, it was snap shot, variation of wrist shot, the stick reacts properly.
[446]
The main issue is if a blade reacts properly, whether there is blade deformation during shooting or not, if the shots are nice.
[454]
The answer is: yes, they are nice.
[457]
But I say once more, a lot depends on your hands. Generally, the blade keeps load.
[463]
And now there is the most interesting part for me, slap shot one-timer.
[468]
This is maximal load and how the stick will work with its features
[475]
flex 87 and a hole in the blade.
[494]
Before to make any conclusion let's do one more series of one-timer slap shots considering situation when a defenseman plays power play time and gets a countermoveing pass.
[515]
Nice shot
[524]
So, slap shots are finished, there were shots from a blue line, in the movement on the net. And as I said, it was the most interesting for me now the stick works in hard conditions.
[533]
Frankly talking the stick cope with it.
[539]
I was afraid that a puck would outhustle a blade, that the stick is too soft for a slap shot but it coped with this.
[549]
Surely there is some technologies in the stick that were designed for a such hockey stuff as a slap shot.
[557]
It’s really nice slap shot and this stick is quite good for a defenseman.
[565]
We spent enough time to check the stick, almost an hour we shoot and can derive some conclusions.
[571]
The first point is weight, is it lightweight? Yes, it is really very lightweight and perhaps it’s one of the lightweights sticks I have ever used.
[580]
The second point is a novel pentagonal shaft. As for me, after shooting and stickhandling it was not very comfortable for me.
[594]
I cannot say that it was the most comfortable stick. No, it wasn’t.
[602]
. I had more comfortable ones, thus, if pentagonal a new level is? Perhaps it is so for someone, but it is not mine.
[614]
How does it work for wrist shots and slap shots?
[620]
It is predictable that the stick with that characteristics will be very sensitive. Wrist shots are sharp, very powerful.
[631]
Slap shots. My main disturb was how the stick works them due to low flex as for me and I some enlarge it.
[641]
The stick reacted well, pucks did not outhustle the blade. It coped with all slap shots.
[648]
I relay on my experience because I have used sticks with the same flex and it affected slap shots badly.
[664]
Therefore the stick reacts on wrist and slap shots nicely.
[668]
In term of taping, if the hole in the blade affects on a tape?
[677]
I taped the blade fully from the toe to the hill. It’s obvious that top side of the blade is almost dry.
[685]
So, it is not likely the tape rips up whe n you use classical taping.
[701]
Its’ not likely that opponent’s stick gets in the blade hole.
[716]
But there is good marketing, I would say excellent one. I admit, the stick is very bright and remarkable.
[724]
The hole in the blade does not affect on a game badly.
[728]
How it will work on the long term, how durable it is only that remains to be seen. If you wander to find it out, subscribe my Instagram.
[741]
I will tell about it for sure.
[746]
Finally let’s give a grade.
[749]
Wrist shots – “B”
[752]
Slap shots – “B” as well (although I was gonna give “C” before I got on ice).
[756]
Comfort, how it is comfortable for hands – sorry, but it’s “C”.
[762]
Stickhandling – “B”.
[766]
Marketing – “A+”
