[20]

[22]
life insurance coverage you might need

[26]
life insurance coverage through your
[28]
employer
[31]
[Music]
[35]

[47]

[49]
i want you to think of two beautiful
[51]
words guarantee
[52]
issue but before we get into the details
[55]
check out our last video on employer
[57]
paid life insurance
[58]
where we discuss the importance of life
[59]
insurance but also define the term
[61]
beneficiary
[63]
remember review your beneficiary
[65]
elections every year
[66]
and adjust as needed the worst possible
[69]
thing that could happen
[70]
is that your life insurance benefit is
[72]
paid to someone unintended like
[74]
an ex-spouse okay so let's drill down on
[77]
how much life insurance coverage is
[78]
necessary
[79]
not everybody needs life insurance and
[81]
coverage amounts will vary from person
[83]
to person
[84]
but we typically recommend that you have
[86]
10 to 12 times your annual income
[88]
as your life insurance benefit now this
[90]
is a good starting point
[91]
but if you want to dive in deeper we can
[93]
perform what's called the dime analysis
[96]
d is for debt if i pass away do i have
[99]
any debt that i'd want paid off
[101]
i is for income how much income do i
[103]
want to replace for my family
[105]
m is for mortgage do i have a mortgage
[107]
that i want paid off
[109]
e is for education do i want to
[111]
guarantee my children's education is
[113]
paid for
[114]
so now that we've established how much
[115]
life insurance coverage you need let's
[117]
jump into the details of voluntary life
[119]
insurance
[120]
this is a supplemental policy that you
[122]
can take out if you have the need
[124]
but it's at your own expense these
[126]
policies typically have
[128]
five year age brackets which means your
[129]
premium remains the same or your cost
[131]
per paycheck
[132]
while you're within each bracket and
[134]
typically these policies
[136]
are portable which means you can take
[137]
your coverage with you if you leave your
[139]
employer
[140]
by far the best feature of voluntary
[142]
life insurance
[143]
is the guaranteed issue amount this
[146]
means
[146]
that you might be able to take out
[147]
coverage without having to answer any
[149]
health questions
[150]
or without having to go through a
[152]
medical exam which is awesome
[154]
this can be a great benefit for someone
[156]
who's unable to obtain
[158]
life insurance on the individual market
[159]
due to an underlying medical condition
[162]
for those who are unfamiliar with how
[163]
the individual market works you have to
[165]
complete a ton of paperwork and you have
[167]
to go through a detailed medical exam
[169]
where they look at your height your
[170]
weight your blood pressure you have to
[172]
do a urine test a blood test
[175]
they look at your health history they
[176]
even look at your family's health
[178]
history
[178]
and if the insurance company doesn't
[180]
like what they see you may be
[182]
declined coverage which means you're
[183]
uninsurable and you can't get the
[185]
coverage that you need
[186]
so voluntary life insurance may be your
[189]
only option through this guaranteed
[191]
issue window
[192]
so be mindful because there's a window
[194]
of opportunity where you can sign up for
[195]
the guaranteed issue amount
[197]
when you're first eligible for coverage
[199]
and each year
[200]
you can usually take out small
[202]
increments of coverage without having to
[203]
answer any health questions
[205]
however if you didn't sign up when
[207]
you're first eligible
[208]
or you're trying to take out coverage
[210]
above the guaranteed issue amount
[212]
you may have to fill out an evidence of
[214]
insurability form
[215]
that asks questions about your health if
[217]
the insurance company likes your answers
[220]
then you'll likely be issued the
[221]
coverage if not
[223]
you may be declined coverage or you may
[225]
be required to go through a medical exam
[227]
and if you found this video helpful

experience less painful
