13 April 2022 Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party Bilawal Bhutto Zardari exclusive interview with CNN - YouTube

Channel: PMO ISB OFFICIAL

[2]
chairman of pakistan people's party
[3]
joins me now live from islamabad it's
[5]
good to have you i know you've endorsed
[7]
sharif's appointment there are reports
[9]
that you're being eyed as pakistan's new
[12]
foreign minister can you confirm that
[15]
no i i can't confirm that but absolutely
[17]
we worked with a a coalition government
[20]
uh to oust mr khan through no confidence
[24]
motion uh he tried to thwart our moves
[27]
uh through what amounts to a
[28]
constitutional coup but the supreme
[31]
court of pakistan decided against him
[34]
and ultimately parliament managed to
[36]
finish the democratic
[37]
process and vote him out of office out
[40]
of interest would your party be happy
[42]
with you becoming foreign minister under
[44]
prime minister not from your own party
[48]
i'm sure that would be something
[50]
difficult for my
[51]
uh party to uh
[54]
to to to stomach uh being the second
[56]
largest
[58]
member of the coalition uh but obviously
[60]
we do have to work together to address
[62]
pakistan's problems and whatever my
[65]
party decides in the better interest of
[68]
the country of course i would follow
[71]
at this point you don't see a future for
[74]
you in this administration but you're
[76]
saying it would be up to the party
[79]
at this point all political parties that
[82]
are in the in in our alliance that
[84]
defeated imran khan must work together
[88]
for the restoration of democracy work
[90]
towards electoral reforms and uh try to
[94]
address the economic issues that you
[96]
mentioned uh in your introduction
[98]
which i do want to address because uh
[101]
the
[101]
the country is a mess before i do that
[104]
imran khan is demanding immediate
[106]
elections he says to let the people
[108]
decide whom they want as their
[111]
prime minister um you have said
[113]
democracy has won and you have appealed
[115]
to the youth that democracy is the best
[118]
revenge so do you support khan's call
[121]
for
[122]
free and fair elections early elections
[124]
if needs be
[126]
we absolutely want free and fair
[128]
elections uh but in order to have free
[130]
and fair elections we must legislate on
[132]
electoral reforms because as everybody
[135]
knows the 2018 elections this is what
[138]
that khan used to come to power have
[140]
been widely seen and condemned not only
[143]
nationally but internationally
[145]
as rigged in compromised elections that
[147]
resulted in uh within three years of
[151]
auto tax autocratic dictatorial rules
[155]
through the office of mr imran khan who
[158]
not only robbed our media of media
[160]
freedoms but rob average pakistanis
[163]
democratic rights uh that we just
[165]
recently started uh to enjoy in the 10
[169]
years
[171]
before mr khan came to power so indeed
[174]
it is a big victory uh
[176]
for democracy uh that we are moving
[179]
towards electoral reforms and free and
[181]
fair elections we're not a selected
[183]
government like mr khan's but a
[185]
government that is truly elect
[187]
representative of the people of pakistan
[189]
who can decide their fate imran khan
[192]
does still enjoy huge popular support he
[195]
tweeted a day ago the following starting
[199]
with never have such crowds
[202]
been come out so spontaneously and in
[205]
such numbers in our history rejecting
[208]
the imported government
[210]
led by crooks those protests he claims
[213]
are against
[214]
a u.s backed regime change he is right
[219]
to point out there were massive massive
[221]
protests demonstrations of support that
[223]
tweet alone garnered 7.2 million views
[228]
what are your thoughts on his belief
[230]
that his ouster is all part of a u.s
[233]
orchestrated conspiracy
[236]
i think that the american people will be
[238]
able to relate to what pakistan is going
[240]
through right now pakistan just recently
[243]
experienced our equivalent to your
[246]
january sixth moment where mr khan
[249]
despite knowing that he had lost his
[251]
majority in parliament tried acting
[254]
through his speaker to conduct a
[257]
constitutional coup and and thought that
[260]
process and he's come up with this big
[262]
lie of an international conspiracy led
[265]
by the united states to oust him when
[267]
the fact is he's the first prime
[270]
minister in the history of pakistan to
[272]
be ousted through democratic
[275]
constitutional means and this is a
[277]
massive victory for pakistan's democracy
[280]
as far as his support is concerned of
[283]
course little fascists all over the
[285]
world enjoy their cult following but
[287]
that does not mean that the majority of
[290]
pakistan should be dictated to by this
[293]
uh by these fascists and genes
[296]
okay but let's be quite clear though he
[298]
does retain enormous popular support his
[302]
tenure as prime minister was
[304]
characterized by the shift
[306]
away from the west and moved closer to
[308]
china and indeed to russia
[310]
president biden didn't call him during
[312]
his three and a half year tenure khan's
[314]
criticism of washington and the west
[316]
frankly bought him a lot of popular
[319]
support inside the country do you see
[322]
pakistan's relationship with washington
[324]
now changing
[326]
under shebas
[327]
sharif and if so how
[329]
i'll answer all three parts of your
[332]
question as far as mr khan's support and
[335]
the public is concerned
[337]
even though we criticized the last
[339]
elections uh as heavily rigged according
[342]
to those rigged election results which
[344]
mr khan calls the most free and fair
[346]
elections in pakistan's history mr khan
[349]
represents mr khan's position in
[351]
parliament represents thirty percent of
[353]
the people of pakistan's votes whereas
[356]
our coalition represents seventy percent
[358]
of the people of pakistan's uh votes so
[361]
that's as far as man's popularity is
[363]
concerned as far as mr khan pakistan's
[366]
relationship with with the west or any
[368]
other country mr
[369]
imran khan despite being extremely
[372]
anti-american
[374]
in his rhetoric when he's out of
[375]
government when he was in government and
[377]
mr trump
[378]
was the president of the united states
[380]
he enjoyed very cordial relations with
[383]
mr trump it is true that since uh
[386]
president biden has taken uh has taken
[389]
over and following the complexities in
[391]
afghanistan there has been difficulties
[394]
between us and pakistan relations but mr
[397]
khan is manipulating uh this series of
[401]
events to try and create this perception
[404]
that there is some grand conspiracy when
[406]
the fact of the matter there is none our
[409]
decision to bring a vote of no
[411]
confidence was taken much before mr
[413]
khan's visit to russia on the eve of the
[417]
ukrainian crisis
[419]
and we had no way of knowing that mr
[421]
khan would go and st and shake president
[425]
putin's hand as he was invading uh
[427]
ukraine and as a result there would be
[430]
some sort of friction in in foreign
[432]
policy but because mr khan was removed
[435]
through a democratic process because he
[437]
doesn't have any any narrative that
[440]
allows him to be presented as a victim
[442]
he is relying on pakistanis general
[446]
anti-american
[447]
sentiment and trying to provoke a very
[451]
dangerous situation where he's declared
[454]
70 percent of uh the people's the
[457]
parliamentarians that represent 70 of
[459]
the people's mandate has traitors
[461]
unilaterally and is going down a very
[464]
dangerous path america has had 200 years
[468]
of democracy to sustain um
[471]
the pressures of this sort of attack
[473]
pakistan's democracy is very young it's
[476]
very new and mr khan's assault
[478]
um
[478]
[Music]
[480]
his his big
[481]
fascist tendencies is indeed a threat to
[484]
our society let me put this to you it is
[486]
it is a young uh it is a young country
[489]
it's a young democracy
[490]
sharif is the brother of former deposed
[492]
prime minister now a sharif you yourself
[494]
are part of one of pakistan's leading
[497]
political families and the son of two
[499]
former uh a prime minister and a
[501]
president
[502]
some would say that is what is wrong
[504]
with pakistani politics this sort of
[506]
dynasty family politics right or wrong
[511]
absolutely dynasties exist i mean
[515]
i would think it's unfair to criticize
[518]
former secretary of state and
[519]
presidential candidate hillary clinton
[521]
for being involved in politics because
[522]
her husband involved in politics et
[524]
cetera no that's not a good answer
[526]
it was a really important question it's
[528]
a really important question
[531]
criticized nepotism and dynastic
[533]
politics as as all as much as you want
[536]
but whoever the people of pakistan
[538]
decide uh that is what at the end of the
[541]
day should matter as far as mr khan is
[543]
concerned his entire body is full of dis
[546]
dynasty him himself his children may be
[549]
underage and not involved in politics at
[551]
the moment but um in in his provincial
[554]
governments in his uh federal
[556]
representations and his party
[557]
representations he relies heavily on
[560]
pakistanis as far as myself is concerned
[562]
my grandfather was was hanged by a
[565]
military dictator my mother was uh
[567]
assassinated by a
[569]
terrorists and a and a dictators uh
[572]
canadians and i was forced
[575]
into pakistani politics as a young young
[578]
age i didn't uh choose this life it
[580]
chose me okay for whatever reason one is
[583]
doing politics we believe in democracy
[585]
and that the people should decide mr
[587]
khan likes to talk about democracy when
[590]
in fact he believes in rigging elections
[592]
and coming
