[0]
see you guys
[6]
all right this was the morning wasn't it
[11]
[Applause]
[13]
this morning we are going to remember
[15]
for the rest of our lives
[17]
i'm really grateful i'm really honored
[19]
to be with you here
[21]
look at the setting i saw governor lujan
[24]
grisham earlier
[26]
there is no better place to go to space
[29]
than new mexico
[31]
[Applause]
[36]
there goes uh
[39]
i'm still kind of speechless from it all
[41]
how about you guys
[44]
it is there well we did
[47]
something incredible today is years in
[51]
the making
[51]
almost a couple decades in the making
[55]
it couldn't have been done without the
[58]
hundreds of people
[60]
over a thousand over a thousand before
[62]
we got through
[63]
uh with everything getting done here and
[66]
just to congratulations to the team
[68]
for all of you who are watching online
[70]
uh you'll see a few of us on stage
[72]
but this was made up by thousands and
[74]
we're incredibly thankful to this team
[75]
so
[76]
great job everybody
[83]
you know there's there's one person in
[85]
the virgin galactic family
[87]
who's not here today but who is an
[89]
incredible incredible force and guiding
[91]
light for us
[92]
and that was professor stephen hawking
[94]
and stephen hawking was an inspiration
[97]
to
[97]
many of the team at virgin galactic he
[99]
was an inspiration to richard through
[101]
the years
[102]
and many people don't know but stephen
[105]
hawking
[105]
actually named our spaceship unity
[109]
he's an incredible person and at a
[111]
moment like this
[112]
i think the words that should introduce
[115]
our astronauts
[116]
should be the words that stephen hawking
[118]
himself spoke in 2016
[120]
when we rolled out our spaceship unity
[122]
uh so with that
[123]
if we could please hear uh from the
[126]
amazing stephen hawking
[134]
[Music]
[141]
i have always dreamed of space flight
[144]
but for so many years i thought it was
[147]
just that
[148]
a dream but i had reckoned without the
[151]
dream of another
[153]
a man with a vision and persistence to
[156]
open up space flight for ordinary
[158]
earth-bound citizens
[160]
richard branson made it his mission to
[163]
make space flight a reality
[165]
for those intrepid enough to venture
[167]
beyond the boundaries of the earth's
[169]
atmosphere
[171]
the first private astronauts will be
[174]
pioneers
[176]
we are entering a new space age and i
[179]
hope this will help to create a new
[181]
unity
[182]
space exploration has already been a
[185]
great unifier
[187]
taking more and more passengers out into
[190]
space
[190]
will enable them enough to look both
[194]
outwards and back
[195]
but with a fresh perspective in both
[199]
[Music]
[210]
directions
[215]
[Music]
[223]
[Music]
[228]
[Music]
[266]
so
[271]
[Music]
[278]
[Music]
[308]
right
[322]
okay
[327]
[Music]
[333]
[Applause]
[349]
i was upside down a few minutes ago so
[351]
excuse me
[354]
um anyway uh what a day what a day what
[356]
a day what a day
[357]
um and i'm not sure whether stephen
[361]
hawkins says words of play but
[363]
it was such an honor knowing him and
[366]
such an honor
[366]
having him uh as an astronaut um
[370]
he decided to go up there before us um
[372]
but it is lovely to still have his words
[374]
with us um incredible honor to have
[378]
chris hadfield with us um you will all
[381]
remember
[382]
uh his beautiful playing of a guitar
[385]
from space give him a round of applause
[387]
[Applause]
[388]
congratulations
[392]
i think like like uh most kids i have
[395]
dreamt of this moment since i was a
[397]
kid and but honestly nothing could
[400]
prepare you for
[401]
uh the view of earth from space um
[405]
i mean oh the whole thing it was just
[407]
magical and suddenly
[408]
you're looking down and you're seeing
[410]
three people looking up at you
[411]
hang on man what are you doing down
[413]
there
[415]
um they uh that we have this
[418]
incredible earth anyway i'll i'm just
[421]
taking it all in it's just
[422]
unreal um i was so honored um
[426]
to test the customer experience so
[428]
initially i thought
[429]
testing the customer experience was a
[431]
little bit of a an excuse to get
[433]
to get me on it wasn't there's it's so
[435]
great to just get out there
[437]
test the customer experience you get
[440]
lists and lists of little things and
[442]
there's the little details that matter
[444]
so
[444]
we're gonna now have no details to sort
[446]
out with this space line
[448]
um this remarkable crew
[451]
of mission specialists and now any
[454]
second now
[455]
no now and now astronauts
[461]
um they are a complete delight
[465]
uh to have flown with um and uh yeah it
[468]
was just
[469]
we've had such a great time um
[472]
an enormous thank you obviously to our
[474]
incredible spaceship pilots
[480]
and um and anton mothership pilots
[483]
um i think i i think they must
[487]
i don't know where they are if they're
[488]
here they should come and join us on
[489]
stage
[491]
uh they uh anyway just say to say oh and
[495]
obviously sorry beth colin and seresha
[497]
if you
[498]
if you didn't know who they were um
[501]
anyway thanks to all of you for um being
[504]
here at spaceport america um
[506]
it's hot i'm sorry but thank you for
[507]
standing out here
[509]
um the spaceport is the most stunning
[513]
uh building uh when you come come in the
[516]
morning and see this thing emerging from
[518]
the desert
[519]
um i think it could be one of one of the
[521]
10 wonders of the world so
[523]
it's so so awesome to arrive on a
[525]
bicycle and
[526]
and to this across this beautiful new
[529]
mexico countryside and
[531]
um thank you thank you uh to um new
[534]
mexico for hosting us for building this
[536]
for
[536]
for everything
[540]
um khalid thank you for performing
[544]
um they we loved hello
[550]
and he's he was his lovely wife come up
[553]
come on
[555]
there there
[560]
right
[570]
this beautiful new baby will be born
[572]
this month um
[574]
and this beautiful baby was born a
[576]
couple of years ago
[578]
um and um
[581]
and thank you for letting him come with
[582]
us
[584]
they um uh i just would also like to
[588]
thank
[588]
my my wonderful beautiful wife joan
[591]
who's
[591]
hopefully here somewhere um yeah we've
[594]
been to we've been lucky enough to
[596]
have been together forever is she there
[599]
for 45 wonderful wonderful years and
[602]
we've been very
[603]
very blessed and we've got holly and sam
[606]
here
[606]
uh our grandchildren and um
[610]
pretty well uh everything uh everything
[612]
and all my
[613]
lots of friends sadly none from england
[615]
so to you
[616]
and we'll we'll get you out here one day
[619]
but
[620]
love you lots all of you um and i just
[623]
finally i know i said it from the
[624]
spaceship but i want to say thank you
[626]
thank you thank you thank you to every
[627]
single person who's
[629]
believed in virgin galactic uh the team
[632]
who have worked
[632]
so hard to make this dream come true uh
[635]
love you all
[636]
it's a 17 years of painstaking work and
[641]
the occasional horrible down but by and
[644]
large
[644]
ups ups with it and and today was
[647]
definitely the biggest up
[649]
uh so thank you all of you and love you
[651]
all
[658]
so uh the mission statement that i wrote
[660]
inside my space suit was to
[663]
uh turn the dream of space travel into a
[666]
reality for
[668]
uh my grandchildren who are here for
[670]
your grandchildren
[672]
uh and for many people who are alive
[674]
today for everybody
[675]
um and having flown to space i can see
[678]
even more clearly how
[680]
virgin galactic is the space line for
[682]
earth
[683]
um we're here to make space more
[685]
accessible to
[686]
all all and we want to turn the next
[689]
generation of
[690]
dreamers into the astronauts of
[693]
uh today and tomorrow um we've all
[697]
of us on this stage have just had the
[700]
most extraordinary experience
[702]
and we'd love it if a number of you can
[704]
have it too
[706]
and with that in mind i have some news
[709]
so
[710]
today virgin galactic is thrilled to
[712]
announce that we have partnered with
[714]
a to open space for everyone
[718]
so if you go to omaze.com i think um
[722]
space to enter um
[725]
uh you have a chance to go to space and
[729]
every donation
[730]
supports uh a charity called space for
[732]
humanity
[733]
uh and you'll be entered into the amaze
[735]
uh sweepstakes for the chance to win
[738]
not one but two seats aboard one of the
[740]
first commercial
[741]
virgin galactic space flight
[748]
and uh with my willy wonka hat on
[751]
a guided tour of spaceport america given
[753]
by
[754]
yours truly and i promised lots of
[756]
chocolate in the factory
[762]
i mean the exciting thing about this is
[764]
that if enough people all over the world
[766]
participate
[767]
it just means we can just keep on you
[770]
know the charity can keep on uh
[772]
doing tickets for people so it's a
[774]
lovely sort of self-propelling
[776]
uh self-propelling um uh yeah
[779]
way of just trying to get lots of people
[780]
who couldn't have otherwise afforded to
[782]
go to space to go to space
[784]
um so just imagine a world
[787]
where people of all ages all backgrounds
[790]
from
[791]
anywhere of any gender of any ethnicity
[794]
have equal access to space and they will
[797]
in turn i think
[798]
inspire us back here on earth if you've
[801]
ever
[801]
ever had a dream now is the time to make
[804]
it come true
[805]
and i'd just like to end by saying
[807]
welcome to the dawn of a new space age
[809]
thank you that
[813]
okay thank you let's do um wings now
[819]
it's it has been a tremendous
[822]
day here in new mexico uh a beautiful
[826]
sunny day and it's the time of year
[829]
where from the sycamores and the maples
[832]
the little keys
[833]
after having worked so hard to grow
[836]
vertically
[837]
are going to detach from the mother ship
[840]
of their tree
[840]
and float and tumble and plant a seed
[844]
somewhere else and the wings that are
[847]
the virgin galactic wings that i have
[849]
the huge privilege
[851]
of pinning on the crew are those
[854]
sycamore
[855]
seeds and the sycamore wings it's just a
[858]
beautiful
[859]
acknowledgement of the work and the
[862]
passion
[862]
and the risk and the accomplishment of
[865]
everybody here
[866]
and specifically these four new
[868]
astronauts so
[870]
if i could have you come up first here
[871]
please all right
[875]
[Applause]
[881]
everybody sharisa bandler
[885]
astronaut
[895]
get this in the right hand tremendous
[897]
honor
[898]
lovely that your family is here there
[900]
you go sir
[901]
ladies and gentlemen colin bennett
[905]
[Applause]
[910]
astronaut
[923]
and as part of the historic unit 22
[926]
unity 22 flight
[927]
ladies and gentlemen it is beth moses
[930]
astronaut
[932]
[Applause]
[939]
and i don't know of anyone on earth
[942]
with the wild vision
[945]
the confidence where so many people
[948]
don't have it
[949]
the uh willingness to take chances the
[953]
tenacity to follow it through
[955]
and the chance then to celebrate with
[957]
everyone than this man sitting next to
[959]
me
[959]
and so it's it's a ridiculous honor for
[961]
me sir to be able
[963]
to give you something that you have
[964]
earned so so handily
[966]
thank you thank you nice chest richard
[969]
that's good
[970]
[Applause]
[975]
ladies and gentlemen this here is
[979]

[1013]

[1029]
[Music]
[1036]
bottle spray technique
[1039]
i'll just go give this to somebody
[1047]
just yeah
[1064]

[1069]

[1090]
you
