Police give unlawful assembly order in Downtown San Diego near Broadway, arrests made - YouTube
Channel: CBS 8 San Diego
[0]
a breaking news tonight downtown a large
[3]
group of protesters are face to face
[5]
with San Diego police at several
[7]
intersections this started this morning
[9]
with a peaceful protest the group
[11]
marched through the streets some made
[13]
their way to interstate 5 which had to
[14]
be shut down for a period of time others
[16]
made their way back to the Hall of
[18]
Justice and SDPD headquarters along the
[21]
way there were tense moments with
[22]
officers flashbangs and tear gas were
[25]
deployed and San Diego Police reported
[27]
that items were thrown at them News
[29]
eights Netta Iran por is downtown right
[31]
now she's been there all afternoon near
[33]
2nd and Broadway is the last time I
[35]
checked in what's the scene like now
[36]
Neda
[44]
[Applause]
[46]
[Music]
[56]
we are hearing them chanting here on 2nd
[59]
and Broadway
[64]
why the fight against bird
[75]
just blocking off they've been trying to
[77]
discuss
[78]
insane
[81]
[Music]
[95]
[Music]
[102]
[Applause]
[103]
[Music]
[125]
yeah
[127]
[Music]
[134]
4:00 p.m. or so I don't want to get
[139]
[Music]
[140]
try to stand away from the music
[143]
[Music]
[150]
what there
[152]
[Applause]
[154]
[Music]
[161]
you say that
[163]
[Music]
[167]
so that's
[171]
[Music]
[180]
you know at this point
[185]
[Music]
[189]
State Street and second Street that's
[191]
where Broadway is blocked off right now
[193]
and that's where this round is gathered
[195]
right up against this line of officers
[198]
so I'm not sure if we have video from
[199]
earlier but we did get caught up in some
[201]
of that to gas earlier right around 3:00
[203]
p.m. we also saw a very beautiful moment
[205]
of police officers being asked about
[207]
their Patong Patong down and they did
[209]
exactly all right we're gonna send it to
[214]
another area of downtown right now yeah
[216]
we have our Brandon Louis's downtown as
[218]
well near F and State Street he's been
[221]
down there for a little while as well
[222]
Brandon can you hear us
[224]
how are things looking there right now I
[227]
can hear you just fine Carlo and Alicia
[229]
yeah things her well it kind of gives
[232]
and flows depending on what things are
[233]
happening it's actually just a few
[234]
minutes ago there was a big crowd that
[236]
certainly ran away from the area where
[240]
the police line was that's a little bit
[241]
closer to where Neda was it seems like
[243]
there was some indication that a flash
[244]
thing may have gone off for a good tear
[245]
gas the Neda mention but then the crowd
[247]
quickly continued I'm gonna flip this
[249]
around here give you a look at what it
[250]
looks like from our vantage point the
[252]
San Diego Police Department is down
[253]
there with some of their heavily
[254]
fortified vehicles just keeping an eye
[256]
on things it is important to note that
[258]
this has been declared an unlawful
[260]
assembly which gives the police
[261]
additional power when it comes to
[263]
shutting things down the crowd right now
[264]
shouting hands up don't shoot every now
[266]
and then they continue chanting
[267]
different slogans lots of anti police
[270]
policing or especially warning their
[273]
message heard no justice no peace that's
[274]
another message that we hear quite
[276]
frequently now there is a good
[278]
contingent of police all over the area
[280]
in fact I'll come over this way here but
[282]
there's a lot of officers standing by
[284]
I'll zoom in just a little bit if I can
[286]
here having some trouble zoom in just a
[288]
little bit if I can which one having
[290]
some difficulty doing but there are
[291]
several officers who are standing by
[293]
with more protective gear ready to step
[295]
in if necessary and again because they
[298]
have that unlawful assembly declaration
[300]
already made that gives them some
[301]
additional powers and there are law
[303]
enforcement agencies from all across the
[305]
county not just San Diego although they
[306]
are of course delete agents ting on this
[308]
we've seen sheriff's deputies will amaze
[309]
the police department and even the
[311]
Federal Protective Services because the
[312]
federal courthouse is right over there
[313]
and they have to stand watch they're
[315]
obligated to guard down there as well
[317]
now this protest stemmed from one that
[319]
started about noon
[320]
here at the Hall of Justice they said
[321]
they want city leadership and then they
[325]
also wanted to make their presidents the
[327]
county leadership a second protest
[329]
expected to happen a little bit later
[330]
this afternoon as well down toward the
[332]
Embarcadero area so that's why there are
[334]
a lot of police officers all across the
[335]
downtown area and they're asking folks
[337]
if you don't have any business to be
[339]
please go ahead and stay away they don't
[341]
need any more looky-loos or anyone else
[342]
looking around at read part of the
[344]
action we haven't seen the vandalism or
[346]
looting that we saw in La Mesa but of
[348]
course to that incident that happened it
[350]
later on in the evening we have seen
[352]
some things written on some of the
[353]
downtown businesses our IP Floyd and
[355]
reference to George Floyd who died in
[358]
Minneapolis black lives matter also
[360]
written and graffiti on several
[361]
buildings but otherwise things remaining
[363]
relatively calm right now although as
[365]
Neda mentioned there were instances
[367]
where protesters were being a little bit
[369]
violent toward the police officers and
[371]
they responded in kind so we are
[373]
continuing to follow the action down
[374]
here as police officers continue to have
[377]
a standoff with some of the protesters
[379]
who are here and will continue to check
[380]
back in
