[0]
hello there my name is richard mcmahon
[2]
from the interview training company
[4]
passmyinterview.com and in this tutorial
[7]
i'm going to teach you how to pass an
[9]
entry-level job interview
[11]
so it does not matter which position you
[13]
are applying for
[14]
make sure you stay tuned watch the
[16]
presentation fully from start to finish
[19]
because i promise to help you succeed
[22]
and to achieve that goal
[23]
this is what i will cover i am going to
[26]
give you a list of common
[27]
entry-level job interview questions that
[30]
i strongly advise
[31]
you prepare for i'm going to give you
[33]
brilliant unique answers to common
[36]
entry-level interview questions i'm
[38]
going to give you some tips on how to
[39]
stand out during your interview
[41]
even when you have zero experience and i
[44]
will
[45]
also tell you about further resources
[48]
you can get access to
[49]
including these slides to help you pass
[52]
your interview
[53]
so these four reasons why i strongly
[56]
advise you stay tuned and
[58]
don't forget to tell me the name of your
[59]
job interview in the comments section
[61]
below the video
[62]
and i will give you some more tips to
[65]
help you succeed
[66]
let's get straight into it the first
[68]
question is tell me about yourself
[71]
so this is guaranteed to be the first
[73]
interview question that you will need to
[74]
answer
[75]
and within your response make sure you
[78]
cover the following three areas
[80]
tell them what you are like as a person
[82]
including your most appealing qualities
[84]
and traits
[86]
tell them what you enjoy doing from a
[88]
work perspective
[89]
and tell them what you're going to be
[91]
like in the position
[93]
so here is my suggested answer to the
[95]
first
[96]
common entry job level interview
[98]
question tell me about
[100]
yourself i am a very positive person
[103]
who has ambitious plans for the future i
[106]
enjoy being around people
[108]
and i have found over the years that i'm
[109]
most comfortable and happy
[111]
when i am helping and supporting others
[113]
and when i feel i am continually growing
[115]
and developing
[116]
although i have little work experience i
[119]
am enthusiastic
[120]
others have said i'm good to be around
[122]
and i am somebody who can be left alone
[124]
to do a job properly
[125]
and to a high standard now if you choose
[128]
to hire me
[129]
one thing i can promise you is i will
[131]
act as a positive role model for the
[132]
company
[133]
i will treat your customers well and i
[135]
will make sure i contribute to the team
[137]
in a positive way
[138]
so that your business continues to be
[141]
successful
[142]
that is a brilliant answer and it sets
[145]
you up with confidence
[146]
for the remainder of your interview the
[149]
next question
[150]
i want you to prepare for is why are you
[153]
interested in this position
[155]
now most people will apply for literally
[157]
scores of different jobs
[159]
in the hope they will eventually get
[161]
offered one now whilst there's nothing
[163]
wrong with that
[164]
the hiring manager wants to hear you
[165]
have researched the role carefully
[168]
and that you have the skills and
[169]
qualities to carry out your duties
[171]
to a high standard here's my example
[174]
answer
[175]
to help you why are you interested in
[177]
this position
[179]
my career is important to me and i want
[181]
to start off in a job
[182]
where there is lots to learn where i
[184]
will have the opportunity to take on
[186]
lots of challenging tasks
[188]
and where i will have to perform to a
[189]
consistently high standard
[191]
to help my team i researched your
[194]
company quite a bit before the interview
[196]
and not only do your customers love your
[198]
products and services
[199]
but people i have spoken to about your
[201]
business have nothing but positive
[203]
things to say
[205]
i am passionate about working in this
[207]
industry and although this is going to
[209]
be my first job
[210]
i see this is a place i can stay working
[212]
at for a long period of time
[214]
whilst continually developing
[215]
professionally in the position
[218]
that's another really great answer to
[220]
help you
[221]
the next question what are your
[223]
strengths and what are your weaknesses
[226]
now it's very important you are honest
[228]
in your response to the weaknesses
[230]
element
[231]
of the question but be careful not to
[233]
give a weakness that is a requirement
[236]
of the job you are applying for in your
[239]
answer give four or five strengths
[241]
and just one weakness here's my example
[244]
response to help you
[245]
what are your strengths and what are
[247]
your weaknesses
[249]
my strengths include my enthusiasm my
[252]
positivity and my determination
[255]
i believe you get out of life what you
[257]
are prepared to put in
[258]
so i will be a hard worker and you will
[261]
never hear me complain
[263]
other strengths include good teamworking
[265]
skills i understand that for a business
[267]
to be successful
[268]
everyone in the team must act
[270]
unselfishly and put the needs of the
[272]
team first
[273]
i am a good communicator i believe i
[275]
will be good with customers
[276]
and i am a fast learner now my weakness
[279]
is the fact i am quite hard on myself
[282]
and i sometimes worry unnecessarily
[284]
having said that i am always open to
[286]
learning
[287]
so if you see anything about me you feel
[289]
i need to change
[291]
i will work hard to do so that in my
[294]
opinion is the perfect answer
[296]
to that common entry-level job interview
[298]
question what are your strengths and
[300]
what are your weaknesses now don't go
[301]
anywhere
[302]
because i still have more questions and
[304]
answers to give you
[306]
but when you're ready if you want to
[307]
click that link in the top right hand
[308]
corner of the video
[310]
it goes through to my website
[311]
pastmyinterview.com where you can
[313]
download
[314]
my full set of 21 great answers to tough
[317]
entry-level job interview questions
[319]
including these slides
[322]
the next question give me an example of
[324]
a time when you worked in a team
[326]
what was your role now think of a
[329]
situation when you worked with
[331]
other people to achieve a common goal it
[333]
is important you work together in a team
[336]
you support your teammates and you
[338]
successfully achieve your goal
[340]
here's an example answer to help you
[343]
give me an example of a time when you
[345]
worked in a team
[346]
what was your role during my academic
[349]
studies a small group of us
[351]
decided to arrange a charity 5k fun run
[354]
to raise money for local good causes the
[357]
local newspaper ran a story stating that
[359]
many local charities were underfunded
[362]
and they needed help so we decided to
[364]
step in
[365]
we started off by holding a team
[367]
briefing where we discussed our goals
[369]
how much we wanted to raise who would do
[372]
what in the team and what date would be
[374]
best for the fun run to take place
[377]
my task within the team was to liaise
[379]
with the local newspapers
[380]
to arrange some free publicity and i was
[384]
also responsible for gaining sponsorship
[386]
on the day from local businesses we
[389]
worked together as a team for four weeks
[391]
solid organizing the event and
[393]
supporting each other during each task
[396]
the fun run went ahead as planned and
[398]
with more than 30 people taking part
[400]
we managed to raise over 500 for local
[403]
charities
[404]
that's a great answer that shows you are
[407]
organized
[408]
and you can work effectively as a team
[410]
and that's really important
[413]
the next question describe a situation
[416]
when you had a disagreement with someone
[418]
now most people think this common
[420]
entry-level job interview question
[422]
is assessing your ability to debate and
[425]
win the argument
[426]
it is not the question is assessing
[429]
whether you can reach a compromise
[431]
and put aside any differences of opinion
[434]
for the good of the team
[435]
so here's my example answer to the
[438]
common
[438]
entry-level job interview question
[440]
describe a situation
[442]
when you had a disagreement with someone
[444]
i was part of a team during a work
[446]
experience placement
[448]
discussing the launch of a new company
[450]
product
[451]
one of the team members was adamant the
[453]
best way to promote the new product
[455]
was by way of handing out flyers and
[457]
leaflets in the local community
[459]
however i disagreed and i suggested we
[462]
should try online
[463]
advertisement via facebook as this would
[466]
enable us to target people in the local
[468]
area
[469]
by age and by interest allowing us to
[472]
reach our preferred
[473]
target audience now a bit of a
[475]
disagreement started between us
[477]
and after going backwards and forwards a
[479]
few times i decided to agree with his
[482]
advertising suggestion for the sake of
[484]
the business
[485]
as there was the potential we'd end up
[487]
doing nothing if the disagreement
[489]
continued
[490]
as it transpired the flyer and leaflet
[493]
suggestion did not yield positive
[495]
results
[495]
so we all decided to switch over to
[497]
online advertising
[498]
which actually ended up giving us a
[500]
better return from our investment
[503]
now that's a good answer because you are
[506]
putting aside your differences for the
[507]
sake of the of the team
[509]
you are not digging in you are
[512]
you know putting aside any differences
[514]
and you are going let's go ahead and do
[515]
it for the sake of the team
[517]
and then afterwards your idea has worked
[519]
and that's a great result
[521]
for the company the next question where
[524]
do you see yourself in five years time
[527]
now this question is guaranteed to come
[529]
up during your entry level job interview
[532]
training somebody up in a new role can
[534]
take time effort and resources
[536]
so the interviewer wants to be sure you
[538]
are going to stick around
[540]
they also want to see how enthusiastic
[542]
you are
[543]
and what your career plans are for the
[545]
future so here's a great way to answer
[548]
it where do you see yourself in five
[550]
years
[551]
i actually see myself still working for
[554]
you either
[555]
in the same role or having gained some
[557]
sort of advancement to a more senior
[559]
level
[560]
i researched your company in detail
[562]
before the interview
[563]
and as i stated earlier this is a place
[565]
and a role i can see myself progressing
[567]
and growing in
[568]
providing i am continually helping the
[570]
team and contributing to the company
[572]
goals
[573]
i plan to still be here as a competent
[575]
professional and trusted member of staff
[578]
i'd even hope to help train up new
[579]
members of staff when they join the
[581]
company
[582]
if you feel my skills are suited to do
[584]
so so that would be an attractive answer
[586]
to any
[587]
hiring manager and it's the perfect way
[590]
to respond to the question
[591]
where do you see yourself in five years
[594]
