What it Takes to be a Great Account Manager - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
I think it's time your maker get serious
[1]
I have been pondering one of the age-old
[4]
questions one that philosophers have
[6]
been asking themselves for thousands of
[8]
years and that is what does it take to
[11]
make a great Account Manager payments
[16]
work from account mentorship tips here
[17]
now I hope you really well I wanted to
[20]
talk to you today about what does it
[21]
take to make a really great Account
[22]
Manager now it's been on my mind lately
[24]
probably because I'm recruiting so I've
[25]
been thinking about what kind of
[27]
qualities I'm looking for in my
[28]
candidates and here are my top three
[31]
things that I think every account
[32]
manager needs to be successful these
[34]
acquirable skills these require all
[36]
qualities right great leaders out or
[37]
they're made so that brings me to my
[40]
first point leadership leadership is
[42]
really just about inspiring other people
[44]
to join you in achieving their goal it's
[48]
that simple right it's not rocket
[49]
science and it's not a title bestowed on
[52]
you by her majesty or by a boss it's a
[54]
mindset it's a period that's in here
[56]
maybe unique be the best you you can be
[58]
as Oscar Wilde said be you because
[60]
everybody else is taken and I think you
[63]
know having a unique perspective and
[64]
having a point of view is something that
[65]
great leaders possess and something as
[67]
an account manager definitely brings
[69]
great value to your customers take risks
[72]
if you do things the way they've always
[73]
been done you always get the same
[74]
results so I think it's really important
[76]
to take chances and encourage your
[78]
customers to be brave give them the
[80]
safety and the security and the freedom
[82]
to know that they can make choices that
[84]
are going to challenge the status quo
[87]
and the way that their voice done things
[88]
you know that's your job and I think
[90]
it's really important quality of an
[91]
Account Manager embrace change you know
[94]
what get with the program nobody likes a
[96]
party pooper debbie downer now that
[98]
doesn't mean to say you can't have
[99]
concerns questions feedback advice about
[102]
where your company is going or where
[105]
your clients are headed but certainly
[107]
you don't want to be the dinosaur that's
[109]
lagging behind you know try to be at the
[110]
front of the front of the parade and at
[113]
the map so quality number two is
[115]
charisma
[116]
had a little bit of personality a little
[119]
bit of spunk a little bit of unis a
[121]
choir that you know send someone I
[123]
always always respond to that when
[126]
somebody
[126]
into a room and I just see something
[127]
about them some great energy and one of
[131]
the things that you should really
[132]
understand is you do not have to be some
[135]
great beat outgoing you know life of the
[137]
party kind of person you don't need to
[140]
be the center of the attention you don't
[142]
need to hold the spotlight to have
[144]
charisma it's a completely different
[145]
thing how do you think charisma be happy
[149]
and joyful just you know be at peace
[152]
with the world or a life or at least
[154]
fake it till you make it you know that's
[157]
such a really great quality and that's
[158]
infectious don't you know when you're
[159]
being around people that are really
[160]
positive and energetic and and you know
[163]
bubbly and love life it's it's it's
[165]
contagious be confident you know there's
[168]
a really big difference between asking
[169]
questions and questioning yourself
[172]
do you not doubt your own abilities
[173]
don't doubt your experience your skills
[175]
what you can deliver and what you can do
[177]
to help your customers you can do it
[180]
right believe in yourself I do in bethey
[182]
really do be an active listener hear
[186]
what your customers are saying not just
[188]
listen to hear really understand what
[191]
they're going through and what pains and
[193]
challenges they're experiencing and and
[194]
understand and connect with their
[198]
situation there's a really great quote
[200]
from the Dalai Lama which reads
[201]
something like when you talk you are
[204]
only repeating what you know but if you
[207]
listen you may learn something finally
[209]
be authentic now I know that word is
[211]
probably overused these days but it
[213]
really it's about building trust and
[214]
credibility through honesty so how do
[217]
you do that
[218]
be honest simple as that if it's gonna
[220]
cost you a sell no big deal if there is
[223]
a solution that's not right your
[224]
customers say so if you can't do
[226]
something say so if you don't think that
[229]
something is going to work for your
[230]
clients beep up that will go a really
[232]
long way to establishing trust and
[234]
credibility but be optimistic be that
[236]
glass half-full kind of account manager
[238]
you know show them that you believe in
[241]
success and they will believe in it to
[243]
show genuine appreciation for your
[245]
customers business right don't don't
[247]
take it for granted they can go anywhere
[249]
tomorrow and I think it's a really under
[253]
utilized and under expressed
[257]
feature account management just say you
[259]
know just to say I appreciate you I
[260]
really enjoy working with you this is a
[262]
great partnership and I'm glad that
[264]
we're we're working on these great
[266]
solutions together I mean it of course
[269]
be generous with your advice now you've
[273]
probably offer a lot of add-ons and
[274]
upsells and extra bits and pieces that
[276]
come in and come at a price but that
[278]
doesn't mean that you know you have to
[280]
nickel and dime your customers if they
[281]
ask you for your feedback if they ask
[282]
you if your opinion share with them the
[284]
benefits of your experience be honest
[287]
even if it's gonna cost you the sale
[288]
it's so much better to be honest and
[290]
upfront if if your solutions not going
[292]
to work for them or maybe the timings
[294]
wrong or if you seriously am NOT gonna
[296]
be able to get them to where they need
[297]
to go say so it's not going to destroy
[300]
your relationship but it's going to
[302]
certainly a credibility and add a strong
[306]
element of trust to your relationship
[307]
that may not have been there before and
[309]
finally just say thank you
[310]
so really do we remember to say just
[312]
thank you simple he's a couple of really
[316]
great books that I highly recommend if
[318]
you want to pursue these topics a little
[319]
bit further the first is the leaders eat
[321]
blast now you may have already seen the
[323]
famous TED talk by simon Sinek which is
[325]
about finding your wife starting with
[327]
your wife if you wrote this book and in
[329]
it he talks about how to inspire
[330]
cooperation and change and you know how
[332]
to wake up excited about coming to work
[335]
highly recommend this book the other
[338]
book is called the charisma myth and
[341]
this is fantastic for cabal uncovering
[345]
your personal charisma nothing to do
[347]
with being as I said outgoing gregarious
[348]
you know life of the party type of
[350]
person this really helps you tap into
[352]
what makes you unique and how to really
[355]
you know grab hold of that charisma and
[359]
channel it and demonstrate it and really
[362]
start to express it so there you have a
[364]
dare my top three qualities that I look
[366]
for in account managers and the ones
[367]
that I think make a difference between
[368]
being a good Account Manager and a great
[370]
Account Manager but why do you think
[372]
that's what I'm interested in so please
[374]
comment below and let me know I'm really
[376]
keen to find out about what you think
[377]
makes a great account manager as always
