How 2 INDIAN Two-Wheeler brands killed 160 Chinese companies in Africa and whole World ? - YouTube
Channel: Biturbo Media
[0]
China, India, Indonesia, and Vietnam
[2]
These four countries are the major producers and exporters of motorcycles in the world
[6]
Among these four countries, only China and India have their own two-wheeler brands
[12]
And If I talk about the rest two countries
[14]
Then there manufacturing and exporting of 2 wheelers is done by Japanese brands
[19]
China has overall around 200 motorcycles brands
[22]
Japan has major 4 two-wheeler brands
[24]
And India has around 6 renowned two-wheeler companies
[26]
This report made in 2021 based on 2-wheelers sales and revenue shows that
[30]
4 companies out of the top 10 two-wheeler companies in the whole world Indian
[33]
And 3 companies are from Japan
[35]
But in spite of china having around 200 two-wheeler brands
[38]
No brand from china is a part of this list
[42]
The inclusion of Indian brands in this list is not only because of the large population of our country
[46]
But also because Indian brands export their products in large numbers to other countries as well
[52]
Like we can look at Bajaj,
50% of their overall revenue is generated by selling bikes in other countries
[57]
Bajaj sells their bikes in around 70 countries
[59]
TVS sells its bikes in around 60 countries
[60]
And Hero has its presence in around 40 countries
[63]
And they are not involved in any average business in other countries
[65]
If I take the example of the African continent
[68]
Then according to some reports
[69]
Earlier in the African continent, almost 200 companies used to trade
[72]
But because of two or three models of the Indian brands
[75]
160 out of those 200 Chinese companies are not in operation anymore
[79]
And now only 40 Chinese brands are operating on the African continent
[83]
All Indian brands are performing very well in the other countries
[86]
And Indian export of two-wheeler is a very vast field
[90]
Therefore we would get to know in this video
[91]
About the regions where our Indian brands are outperforming the Japanese brands
[96]
And have already outperformed the Chinese brands
[98]
We would also know what are the business strategies used by the Indian companies
[102]
by which Indian brands through their various models have made dominance in Southeast Asia, Africa, and South America
[109]
How Bajaj Boxer motorcycle has become the largest selling two-wheeler on the African continent?
[114]
This motorcycle has outperformed all the motorcycles made by the Chinese brands
[117]
And by the end of this video, you will also get to know how Bajaj, Hero, and, TVS have built a strong team of mechanical engineers
[124]
In spite of mechanical and civil engineers are also forced to do programming to get any job
[128]
Out of all the vehicle sales from India, two-wheelers have the 75% of the share
[133]
And among these, 100cc to 150cc two-wheeler has the most significant sales
[136]
To fulfill this demand many Indian, Japanese, and European brands operate in India
[142]
Either you go to any City, town, or Highway
[145]
You would see bikes in the majority of Indian roads
[148]
And because of the diversity in the Indian geography and economy
[152]
Indian brands have to work hard
[155]
And use many strategies
[157]
To fulfill the demand of an individual
[159]
And due to this, we are able to see a large variety of bikes in the 350 CC segment
[165]
Either we talk about lifting weights, city commute, traveling, or off-roading
[169]
This diversification of motorcycles provides the Indian brands a unique position in the market
[174]
And these brands become sensible choices in many countries like Indonesia, Columbia, Vietnam, Nigeria, Mexico, etc
[181]
Let me explain this to you through an example
[184]
Like TVS exports their star city motorcycle in Sri Lanka and Colombia
[187]
Due to the lower per capita income of people in these countries, this motorcycle is easy to purchase and maintain
[192]
The second example includes the Bajaj Pulsar motorcycle
[195]
which is also popular in countries like Spain, Peru, the Philippines, and Colombia
[199]
This bike provided better performance and reliability in less price
[203]
Apart from this, we all know about the Hero splendor
[206]
This is the largest selling bike in our country
[208]
Splendor motorcycle along with India is a favorite choice of people in Nigeria, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka also
[213]
Today hero is among the top 3 manufacturers of two-wheeler in the world
[217]
And I guess everyone would be well aware of this fact already
[219]
But most of you would be having no idea of how the 4 Munjal brothers
[223]
Who were forced to leave their home in Pakistan and travel to India after the partition
[227]
Started their business of cycle parts by taking a loan from the bank
[230]
And with their hard work strengthen the automobile industry of our country
[234]

All the Indian brands which I mentioned in this video have been doing good in many countries
[295]
but not up to the mark in many countries
[297]
But there is a motorcycle that is ruling the African continent
[302]
And the name of this motorcycle is Bajaj Boxer
[303]
In the early 2000s in the African countries like Nigeria
[306]
Chinese brands used to sell their motorcycles in large numbers
[308]
And the reason behind this was
[310]
African countries are among the poorer countries in the whole world
[313]
And Chinese bikes were very cheaper at that time
[315]
Their bikes used to come in boxes from china and people of Africa used to buy them
[318]
And carry the boxes to the local mechanics for assembling the bikes
[321]
These Chinese bikes were having very low quality
[324]
And Chinese brands were not involved in any after-sales service
[328]
Because they never cared about opening any offices or service centers on the African continent
[331]
At that time around 200 Chinese brands used to export their bikes to African countries
[335]
Many African people were forced to buy only Chinese bikes
[338]
Because Japanese bikes were very costly and out of their reach
[342]
By looking at all this Bajaj tried to gain some advantage
[344]
And launched its fully assembled boxer in many African countries
[347]
Initially, this bike was fully imported from India
[350]
But after some time Bajaj set up assembly plants in those countries
[353]
And also indulged in opening dealerships and service centers with the importers
[357]
Now the people of the country like Nigeria got an option to choose a bike whose price was between the bikes of Chinese and Japanese brands
[362]
but they have the quality like that of the Japanese brands
[364]
And they required good quality
[366]
Because of Boda Boda
[368]
Boda Boda is a term used in many African countries for bike taxis
[373]
Boda Boda is very popular among many Africans
[375]
And this has two reasons
[377]
The first reason is per capita income of people in many African countries is very less
[381]
So, people get the facility of bike taxis at significantly less cost
[385]
And the second reason is
[387]
In countries like Malawi, roads are not made properly
[389]
so bikes are easy to use on those roads as compared to cars
[392]
Boda Boda doesn't only carry local people
[395]
But they are also indulged in carrying heavy weights
[398]
And many times bikes are also used as ambulances in the African continent
[402]
People don't earn huge through these bike taxis
[404]
And buying new bikes for them is not at all easy
[407]
That's why they prefer second-hand bikes
[409]
And they choose Bajaj Boxer
[411]
This bike from Bajaj is very well engineered
[413]
That this bike can easily run lakhs of kilometers without any attention
[417]
And the Chinese brands can not match this feature
[420]
Bajaj Boxer is a very robust bike
[422]
Bajaj has also taken care that the bike doesn't misbehave even with heavy loads on the bike and that too on difficult terrains of the African continent
[429]
And that's why Bajaj has used a 150 CC engine instead of a 100 CC engine
[434]
That's why this bike can support huge loads
[437]
Apart from Bajaj Boxer, one more bike is trendy in the African continent and that bike is the TVS star city
[441]
Because of the excellent quality, mileage, and price of bikes from Bajaj and TVS
[445]
Only 40 Chinese brands are in operation in the African continent which was 200 earlier
[450]
And those 40 companies are also on the verge of exiting the African continent
[451]
For the African people, Indian two-wheeler brands match the levels of the Japanese brands
[454]
And therefore they prefer purchasing the Indian bikes rather than the Chinese brands which cost them a little more
[460]
Now, the African people are not the only ones who believe this
[462]
All the people have the same mindset wherever the Indian bikes are used to sell
[465]
And we can also observe the same in the Indian market
[468]
Whenever Indian people want to buy a new car
[471]
They have a stereotype of the Indian brands
[473]
That the Indian brands might not be reliable
[475]
This has now improved a lot
[477]
And today two Indian brands are in the list of the world's top 10 most selling Indian cars
[481]
Rest includes the cars from Suzuki or Hyundai
[484]
But the two-wheeler market has the opposite scenario
[487]
Among the world's top 10 selling bikes 7-8 bikes are from the Indian brands
[492]
And this has become possible only because of the dependability of many people on the Indian brands across the globe
[497]
Does this question also arise in your mind that
[499]
how the Indian brands have completely changed the scenario?
[504]
This has become possible only due to the strong team of engineers involved in the brands like Bajaj, TVS, and Hero
[509]
But it is not at all easy to find good mechanical and automobile engineers in our country
[514]
Srinivas is the MD of VLSMI and an engineer by profession
[518]
He tells that in the 2000s he was the HR head in the Bajaj Auto
[523]
And he had to hire 100 engineers for designing and manufacturing world-class motorcycles
[529]
When he went to big institutions like the IITs
[531]
Then he was able to hire only 10 Engineer out of the 15 colleges he traveled
[535]
And the reason behind this was that even after pursuing mechanical engineering students prefer to work in tech companies rather than in manufacturing
[541]
That's why he was forced to hire engineers at thrice the salary offered by the tech companies
[546]
And this was very competitive as at that time TCS also wanted to hire 2000 engineers but Bajaj only required 100
[551]
But after the interview with the toppers, he get to know that even after giving huge salaries these toppers only wanted to code and study
[561]
So they were forced to find the engineers who were passionate about building motorcycles keeping their salaries aside
[566]
He interviewed people in Hindi and many regional languages
[571]
So that the engineers show their true potential at the time of their interview
[575]
TVS in southern India also used this process by Bajaj
[579]
By looking at all this we can say that Indian students are not very passionate about mechanical engineering
[584]
And even if they are
[585]
Either the Colleges are not providing them enough practical knowledge
[588]
Or they are not getting good salaries
[590]
Therefore they start shifting to other fields
[592]
In the two-wheeler segment, we have outperformed many countries including China
[595]
But if India wants to compete with China in every field and leave it behind
[599]
Then manufacturing is to be scaled up
[601]
And for that good engineers are required
[603]
Only coding won't help
