generation model first went on sale in

2015 but it's recently had a facelift to

update its styling bring in a new engine

and tweak its pricing now in the past

the Vitara has always stood out from the

crowd thanks to its low pricing but is

that the case now and is it still a good

choice well that's what we're going to

let's first talk about those styling

changes that the facelifted model gets

and if you look at the front you can see
[54]
that it gets a slightly redesigned light
[56]
cluster grille and bumper while at the
[58]
rear there's again a more intricate
[60]
design for its tail lights inside Suzuki
[63]
has really tried to lift the quality of
[65]
the interior so for the first time the
[67]
Vitara gets soft touch materials on top
[69]
of the dashboard and there's no doubting
[72]
that the Vitara looks as good as it ever
[74]
has inside however it's not all good
[77]
news because these soft touch materials
[79]
here are the best that you'll find
[81]
because elsewhere it's pretty cheap and
[84]
especially inside the door here the
[86]
plastics you can hear pretty scratchy
[89]
brittle hard and just generally not very
[91]
good and these air vents especially are
[94]
quite flimsy too but to be fair to the
[97]
Vitara all the other cars in this class
[99]
also have a similar mix of quality in
[101]
their interiors for the materials that
[103]
are used at least and in the Vitara
[105]
finding a comfortable driving position
[107]
is really easy there's loads of
[109]
adjustment in the seat and in the
[110]
steering wheel to adjust for height and
[113]
reach and these front seats are pretty
[115]
comfortable as well plus the facelifted
[117]
model now gets a central armrest here
[120]
there is though still no adjustable
[122]
lumbar support the books like body and
[124]
large glass area mean it's easy to see
[126]
out of the Vitara but a big drawback of
[129]
the interior is the infotainment system
[131]
SNT and i said 5 models get this
[133]
touchscreen
[134]
display as standard but perhaps the
[136]
kindest thing you can say about it is

that at least it does get apple carplay
[139]
and android auto as standard the
[141]
infotainment system itself is easy
[143]
enough to navigate but the icons are
[146]
pretty small and it can be pretty slow

to respond to your touch inputs as well

so as you can see these shortcut buttons

are on the small side and not that easy
[156]
to hit when you're on the move but
[158]
actually the worst thing about it is
[159]
this touch sensitive pad on the side
[162]
here for the volume it's really fiddly
[164]
trying to turn up the tunes when you're
[165]
driving so actually a physical dial

would be much easier but there are at
[170]
least some helpful buttons on the
[171]
steering wheel to help control it All

Things Considered though rival systems

are much better space up front is good

with lots of head and legroom and we've
[182]
already shown the adjustability that you
[183]
can get in the driver seat but the
[184]
storage compartments are a bit on the
[186]
small side

these cubby holes here aren't
[188]
particularly big although what is good
[190]
is in the central armrest actually
[192]
there's a decent amount of storage under
[194]
there in the back legroom is very
[198]
generous even if you're sat behind a
[200]
tall driver and Headroom is really good
[202]
as well but it's worth bearing in mind
[204]
that if you have a panoramic sunroof
[206]
fitted then it really cuts into Headroom
[209]
that's available in the back and in the
[210]
front and so a panoramic sunroof is
[213]
standard on s-said 5 so that might be a
[215]
trim that's worth avoiding but if you
[217]
really want a small SUV that's generous
[219]
in the back then this is impressive but
[222]
a Kia Soul is bigger still the boots
[224]
pretty good by class standards as well
[226]
and it's been thoughtfully designed so
[228]
there's no load lip there's decent
[230]
underfloor storage and the boot floor
[233]
itself isn't actually that high off the
[235]
ground plus you've got some helpful
[236]
storage pockets on either side the rear
[239]
seats are split folding in a 60/40
[241]
configuration but they don't slide or
[244]
recline like they do in some rivals like
[246]
the Citroen c3 err cross and when
[248]
they're down the boot space is generous
[250]
but the c3 air cross is bigger still
[254]
the Vitara now has a very simple engine
[257]
line-up of just two engines so for the
[260]
facelift
[261]
Suzuki's ditched the 1.6 liter petrol
[263]
and the diesel option from before and
[265]
now you've got 1 liter and 1.4 liter
[268]
turbocharged petrol engines
[270]
so this 109 brake horsepower 1 liter
[273]
petrol engine is definitely the Pick of
[276]
the range and it's borrowed from the
[277]
Suzuki Swift so the 1.6 liter engine
[279]
from before had to be revved really
[282]
really hard to get anything from it at
[285]
all really

but this 1 liter turbo pulls much better
[288]
from low revs so actually even getting
[290]
up to motorway speeds is no drama for it
[292]
at all it's a very impressive engine and

actually it can definitely go toe-to-toe

with equivalent units and its rivals if

you do want a bit more power and
[301]
regularly do long journeys then the 1.4
[303]
liter is still an excellent option but
[306]
it is a little bit pricey this 5-speed
[309]
manual gearbox is pretty not G compared
[312]
to the Sailor owners which is just
[313]
slicker and also more precise and be
[316]
aware if you go for an automatic or
[318]
indeed all-wheel drive in the Vitara
[320]
then it does blunt the performance
[322]
somewhat the Vitara has firm but well
[325]
damped suspension big bumps or potholes
[327]
will send a dull thud through the
[329]
interior but the road rarely gets
[331]
unsettled and never becomes jarring all

things considered this is one of the
[335]
more comfortable small SUVs on sale you
[338]
can even have some fun hustlin the
[339]
Vitara along a twisty b road thanks for
[341]
its tight body control but the steering
[343]
does let it down a little bit it's very
[346]
light and there's no real connection
[348]
with the front wheels but that's no
[349]
problem around town and Vitara is very
[351]
comfortable and relaxing at lower speeds
[353]
but if you are driving quickly you'll
[356]
definitely notice that a set or honor is

more controlled

popular in the past was because of its

excellent value but has the facelift

changed that well these are the most

important things you need to know about

buying and owning a Suzuki Vitara well

the facelift has brought some punchy of

pricing for the Vitara so whereas before

it used to undercut the vast majority of

cars in this class now it's actually

similarly priced to the sale aronia

Citroen c3 air cross and Renault Kaptur

so it's not quite the bargain it once
[394]

which gets cruise control 17-inch alloys

a sat-nav with smartphone mirroring

Bluetooth da B digital radio and a

rear-view camera the Vitara is also a

reliable car in our latest reliability

survey suzuki was rated the most

reliable manufacturer and the Vitara was

third in its class behind another Suzuki
[446]
the SX 4s cross and the Peugeot 2008 as

with many of its rivals a three year
[451]
60,000 mile warranty comes as standard
[453]
while a 12 year anti perforation
[456]
warranty should stop any concerns about
[458]
rust the Vitara got the full five-star
[461]
safety score from Euro encap but that
[463]
was on the older style of testing in
[465]
2015 if it was tested today it might not
[468]
score so highly because the two
[470]
entry-level trims don't get automatic

emergency braking

so the suzuki vitara is better than ever

inside and on the road but an increase

in price and increase in the competition

means that it doesn't look like such a

bargain now compared to cars like the

class-leading Sailor owner but if you

want a comfortable small SUV with a

spacious interior some off-road styling

and capable engines then the Vitara is
