Opening A tastyworks Account - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
All right, so let's talk about
[1]
opening a brokerage account.
[3]
And today we're going to open an
[4]
account with TastyWorks here
[6]
together.
[7]
So I will open an account with you
[9]
and show you exactly what the
[11]
account opening process is all
[12]
about. Now, let's quickly review.
[14]
Here is what I did in
[16]
the previous video.
[19]
I looked at four different
[20]
brokerages TD Ameritrade,
[22]
Interactive Brokers, WeBull and
[24]
TastyWorks.
[25]
And I had my eight criteria
[27]
that I personally use to pick a
[29]
broker.
[29]
So I went through this and you see
[31]
that for me, TastyWorks came
[33]
up on top. Now, for you, it might be
[35]
different because you might have
[37]
different criteria.
[38]
If you're interested in watching
[40]
this full video, there's probably
[42]
a link right now somewhere on the
[43]
screen or in the description, so you
[45]
can see what criteria I used
[47]
and how I evaluated these
[48]
brokerages. Anyhow, TastyWorks
[51]
came out on top and this is why
[53]
right now we will open
[54]
an account with TastyWorks.
[56]
So let's jump on the screen and
[58]
do it here together.
[59]
So all I did thus far is go
[61]
to TastyWorks Home Page.
[63]
They say, "Want 100 shares on us?"
[65]
Sure.
[66]
If you want to give me 100 shares,
[68]
I'll be happy to do this.
[69]
So I'll let you know what shares
[70]
I'm getting here.
[71]
So tell me how and right
[73]
here, we can open an account.
[75]
So it does seem that we have one,
[77]
two, three, four, five sections
[80]
here. So first of all, some account
[82]
information, then information
[84]
about the trader, that's probably
[85]
me. Something regarding access, some
[87]
security, and then they do
[89]
need some documents.
[90]
Now, I can already tell you from
[91]
experience that brokerages in the
[93]
United States always need
[95]
a driver's license and proof of
[97]
residence. Proof of residence can be
[99]
your electric bill, can be your
[101]
water bill, so I am prepared
[103]
for this. So I do have already
[105]
my latest electric bill
[107]
that I can upload as well as my
[109]
driver's license front and back.
[111]
That's what I wanted to show you
[112]
right here, it is in the folder.
[113]
But let's get started.
[114]
So my email address, user
[116]
name and password.
[118]
So here's what I'm going to do.
[119]
Right now I am typing this in,
[121]
but I'm coming to your full screen
[123]
because I decide to keep this
[125]
information private.
[126]
So I'm typing in the user name
[128]
and I will show you what happens
[130]
when we click on Continue and go to
[132]
the next screen.
[133]
Good. Fantastic. So here's the next
[134]
step. We do need to confirm the
[136]
e-mail so I can use my username
[138]
and password and I need to confirm
[140]
the e-mail address.
[141]
We've just send you an email, please
[142]
be sure to click the link you find
[143]
when within the next 72 hours.
[145]
OK. So we don't have to do this now.
[147]
We can do this within the next 72
[149]
hours, so we'll be fine.
[150]
Now the next step is that is asking
[152]
me what kind of account do I want to
[154]
open an individual, entity/trust,
[156]
joint? I want to open just an
[158]
individual account for me
[159]
personally, Markus Heitkoetter.
[161]
And I would like to have a margin
[162]
account. I don't want to have a cash
[164]
account, not a retirement account,so
[166]
for my purposes, for my style of
[167]
trading, I am choosing individual.
[170]
There we go.
[171]
And margin account.
[172]
Step number two.
[173]
So now I have to fill
[175]
in apparently a bunch
[177]
of personal information, which I
[179]
will do right now.
[180]
Are you a U.S.
[181]
citizen? No, I'm not.
[182]
Are you a permanent resident?
[184]
Yes, I am.
[185]
My country of citizenship is
[186]
Germany, and I can tell you that.
[188]
So no surprise there, you probably
[190]
already know this.
[191]
I am born and raised in Germany,
[193]
100% German.
[194]
I do, of course, have a Social
[196]
Security number.
[197]
So you need to do Social Security
[199]
number.
[200]
It is asking how many
[202]
dependents I have, my date
[204]
of birth.
[204]
I think we are somewhere
[206]
at a point where I can share my
[208]
desktop again. So we are now on
[210]
employment information.
[211]
That is a difficult one.
[212]
I am not employed, I'm not
[214]
unemployed, I'm not retired, I'm not
[216]
a student. So let's say I am
[218]
employed and the employer name
[220]
is, I have a company, as you know,
[222]
Rockwell Trading Services,
[225]
LLC, it is an education company,
[227]
and my job title is
[229]
kind of the owner of the company.
[230]
Let's see.
[231]
Are you subject to backup
[232]
withholding? No.
[233]
Are you a director, 10% shareholder
[236]
or policymaking officer?
[237]
No, I'm not.
[239]
Are you employed with the securities
[241]
or futures member firm?
[242]
I am not.
[243]
Is the account maintained
[245]
for a current or former political
[246]
exposed person?
[247]
Holy moly!
[248]
No, of course not.
[249]
The trusted contact, since
[251]
I'm my own trusted contact, that's
[253]
what I will enter here.
[254]
So I need to come back to you for
[256]
just a second while I am
[258]
filling this out.
[259]
Should be fairly quick.
[260]
So that's a little bit unusual why
[262]
they ask for a trusted contact.
[264]
When I just said, "Hey, I'm the
[265]
account owner and I'm the only one
[267]
on the account." I don't want to
[269]
give anybody else access to the
[271]
account. So it's asking for my date
[272]
of birth again, I can tell you this.
[274]
There's no secret it's November
[275]
15th, 1969.
[278]
Yes, so this year I will be turning
[280]
51 years old.
[282]
And now it says to have the
[283]
government find funding of
[284]
terrorism, we have to acknowledge
[286]
something. And yes, we want to
[287]
continue to trading
[289]
access. There we go.
[290]
So I want to buy a stock, I want to
[292]
short sale stock, I want to buy
[293]
options, I want to sell covered
[295]
calls, I want to sell naked
[296]
calls, I want to sell naked puts and
[298]
futures. OK.
[299]
So let's see if I qualify for the
[301]
works, please describe your
[302]
knowledge of stocks.
[303]
I would say my knowledge of stocks
[305]
is pretty extensive.
[306]
Covered options and spreads, I'm
[308]
want to say it is pretty extensive
[310]
because I've been doing it for a
[311]
very long time.
[312]
Uncovered options, I mean, you're
[313]
watching me doing uncovered options.
[315]
What do you think?
[316]
What is my knowledge of uncovered
[318]
options of selling naked calls
[320]
and puts? I would say extensive.
[322]
And futures I've been trading
[323]
futures for, since
[326]
1998, I believe so.
[328]
So I also would say very extensive.
[330]
Trading objective,
[332]
I am willing to take larger
[334]
risks here.
[335]
Yeah, so it's speculation.
[336]
That's it for me.
[338]
So my annual income
[340]
currently it's probably between
[343]
$500,000 and $1.2 Million.
[344]
Last year it was a little bit
[345]
higher.
[346]
So last year it was a little bit
[348]
over a million.
[349]
But I think that will be fine.
[350]
My liquid net worth is $5,000,000
[352]
and above.
[353]
So we are good.
[355]
Networth and liquid net worth, oh,
[356]
it's probably how much money I have
[358]
right now in cash.
[359]
So I mean in my savings account or
[360]
my checking account I probably have
[362]
around to $400,000 -
[364]
$500,000 and then I have a lot of
[365]
money invested in real estate.
[367]
OK. Continue to security.
[369]
Confirm your identity. It is
[371]
confirmed. OK.
[372]
Validate your device.
[373]
Now I need to send a verification
[375]
code to my mobile number.
[376]
Let's do this.
[377]
So it sent it here to my mobile
[379]
number. The verification code that
[381]
I got is 161422.
[385]
Validate.
[386]
And this worked as well.
[388]
And now there's a security question.
[390]
You can select your own question,
[391]
which is actually pretty cool.
[393]
So I'm doing this and I am
[395]
typing the answer.
[395]
OK. Continue to important
[397]
documents. OK.
[399]
So now, holy
[401]
moly, there is a bunch of documents
[403]
that you have to acknowledge and
[404]
sign and supposedly read
[407]
and you can read these, it's
[409]
kind of a when you're buying a house
[411]
and signing up for a mortgage,
[412]
right? So there's a lot of stuff.
[414]
And they ask, have you received,
[416]
read, understood each of the
[417]
documents above and agreed to all
[419]
provisions in each document.
[420]
So don't tell
[422]
anybody. I will say "Yes," even
[424]
though I haven't read them.
[425]
Again, this is not my first rodeo
[427]
I have opened accounts before.
[430]
I know what it says.
[431]
It basically says I'm responsible
[432]
for anything, the broker is not
[434]
responsible for everything.
[436]
That's what it says in many, many
[437]
documents. So shhh,
[439]
don't tell anybody that I say,
[441]
"Yeah, I've read them," because I've
[442]
read them in the past and they're
[444]
not that interesting to read here
[445]
together. So, yes, review your
[447]
application. Now, this is where I
[449]
probably have to come back because
[450]
it shows a bunch of sensitive
[452]
information here right now.
[453]
Yes, it does.
[454]
So it is basically just saying,
[456]
all right, if I
[458]
am Markus Heitkoetter, I agree
[460]
that all of this stuff above
[462]
is correct and
[464]
sign and submit the application.
[465]
Let's do this.
[466]
So now they're saying we're setting
[468]
up your account please do not
[470]
refresh your browser.
[471]
I won't. Let's see what happens.
[472]
Kind of exciting, like I said I
[473]
haven't open account in three or
[475]
four years.
[475]
Congratulations, you opened your
[477]
first account and your TastyWorks
[478]
journey has begun.
[479]
You're now signed into this
[480]
TastyWorks account management site
[482]
and the status of your new account
[483]
and any future account appears in
[485]
the blue box on this page.
[487]
First things first, before you close
[488]
this pop up, you should download the
[490]
TastyWorks desktop platform.
[491]
Let's do this. Let's just quickly
[493]
download it and install it.
[494]
It's only 200 megabytes.
[496]
So this should be rather quickly.
[498]
So while this downloading in the
[499]
background, I want to see if there's
[501]
anything else I need to do right
[503]
now. Let me just come back to you,
[504]
because I'm going to click on my
[506]
account data.
[507]
OK. So when I click on my account,
[509]
here's what happens.
[510]
You've initiated one account at
[512]
TastyWorks.
[513]
OK. It is processing.
[514]
I do have an account here, to be
[516]
honest, I am a little bit surprised
[518]
that it didn't ask me to upload my
[520]
documents because usually you have
[522]
to upload your driver's license
[525]
and proof of residence, which
[527]
is usually a water bill,
[529]
a gas bill, electric bill.
[530]
I'm a little bit surprised that it
[532]
didn't do that.
[534]
Well, it is what it is.
[536]
There is not much more to do.
[538]
Apparently, right now, besides
[540]
waiting for the e-mail. As you can
[541]
see this is pretty straightforward,
[543]
pretty easy.
[544]
No big deal.
[545]
So apparently it's a two step
[547]
process here.
[548]
Step number one was today, fill out
[550]
the account application and now you
[551]
know exactly what an account
[553]
application looks like.
[554]
Is this is making sense thus far?
[556]
Is this helpful at all, that you see
[558]
what exactly it looks like when you
[560]
open an account?
[560]
If it is, do me a favor, click on
[562]
like really quick right now.
[564]
And I know that it was a bit odd
[565]
that I have to be off screen
[567]
sometimes when I enter personal
[568]
information.
[569]
But hey, now you know what is being
[571]
asked when you open an account,
[572]
pretty painless, right?
[573]
I mean, how long did it take us to
[574]
open the account?
[575]
Ten minutes and all, it's just
[577]
a matter right now of being
[579]
approved.
[580]
All right. So it has been a few
[581]
hours and I did receive an email
[583]
from TastyWorks saying that my
[585]
account is approved.
[586]
It was a matter of really
[588]
a couple of hours.
[589]
So now the next step is to fund
[591]
the account.
[592]
And that's what we're gonna do here
[593]
together right now.
[594]
So I'm showing you exactly how you
[596]
can fund an account.
[597]
In order to do this.
[598]
I'm going to tastyworks.com.
[600]
It remembered me, so I'm still
[602]
logged in, I'm clicking on my
[603]
account that is now approved,
[605]
and when you go to my account,
[608]
you now need to fund
[610]
the account. When funding the
[611]
account, you have several
[613]
possibilities.
[613]
You can do it by ACH,
[615]
by wire transfer, by
[617]
check, and I have no idea what
[619]
ACAT is.
[622]
Don't know that.
[623]
So here's what I found, when I
[624]
logged into the account I was ready
[626]
to wire them some money.
[628]
But then they say, you know what?
[629]
The fastest thing is to do
[631]
it by ACH.
[633]
By doing so, all you needed to do
[635]
is select my bank
[637]
and log into my bank and it was
[639]
already linked. So it was super,
[641]
super easy to do this.
[642]
Now, here's an important thing, and
[644]
this is something to remember,
[646]
because of Anti Money Laundery
[649]
is that it laws?
[650]
Yeah, AML laws.
[652]
Anyhow, all the money
[654]
need from the brokerage account
[655]
needs to come back into the account
[657]
that you're wiring it from.
[658]
So choose wisely if
[660]
you right now, if you link one
[662]
account and you wire money from
[663]
there into your brokerage account,
[665]
that has to be the account that the
[667]
money is coming back to.
[668]
OK. Let's actually fund this.
[671]
And all we need to do here is
[673]
the transaction frequency is one
[675]
time and the deposit amount,
[677]
this is where we had the poll going
[679]
on. I asked you, how much money
[681]
would you like me to deposit into
[683]
the account? I asked you, should I
[684]
deposit $5,000, $10,000 or
[687]
$25,000?
[689]
169 have voted and
[691]
the vote is $10,000.
[693]
So I will put $10,000 in there and I
[695]
will trade it together with you as
[697]
a $10,000 account.
[698]
So we do it right now, $10,000.
[701]
And you see in order to
[703]
be processed the same day ACH
[705]
deposits must be in by 2:00
[707]
p.m. Right now it is 3:00
[709]
p.m. Central Time.
[710]
So it is a Friday anyhow so
[713]
we won't be able to trade with the
[714]
money today, but we can
[716]
trade with it on Monday.
[718]
And that's what we're gonna do.
[719]
So I'm gonna click continue.
[720]
All it does it's confirming a few
[722]
things, I hit submit and by doing
[724]
so, it is now asking me to
[726]
send a security code.
[728]
Now the security code is being sent
[730]
to my cell phone.
[731]
So we're verifying it, okay, your
[732]
deposit is processing.
[734]
Head over to schedule deposits
[736]
to check the account status.
[737]
OK, so oh, look at this, trade
[739]
with your funds today.
[740]
Your ACH transfer were successfully
[742]
submitted. Funds are typically
[743]
available within one to two business
[745]
days, but we are happy to grant
[747]
you a $1,000 in buying power
[749]
in the meantime, while we wait for
[750]
the full amount to settle.
[751]
OK. Please note by opting
[753]
in you will not be able to cancel
[755]
this pending ACH.
[756]
Would you like us to grant buying
[758]
power? OK, yes.
[759]
So that's pretty cool.
[760]
It seems while they're waiting for
[762]
the funds, they say, "OK, we already
[763]
give you a $1,000
[765]
to trade with." Cool.
[767]
Let's open the platform and let's
[768]
see what this platform is all about.
[770]
Now, every single broker platform
[772]
has five main elements.
[773]
And we're going to try to find these
[775]
five main elements here.
[776]
So the first is where can we enter
[779]
the trades?
[780]
And you see usually it shows
[781]
activity positions right here trade.
[783]
So this is obviously when we click
[785]
on trade where we can place a trade.
[787]
Oh, okay this how it works.
[789]
So I will make myself familiar with
[791]
the platform over the next few days,
[792]
but if I want to go long a stock,
[795]
I do it here.
[796]
And if, oh my gosh,
[798]
there's all these options.
[799]
So I could short of put option, can
[800]
short a verticle. Okay, that does
[802]
look pretty cool.
[803]
Now, here's the deal.
[804]
I will familiarize myself with this
[806]
trading platform probably over the
[808]
weekend right now as I'm recording
[809]
it is Friday.
[811]
And then when we are ready to trade
[812]
on Monday, I'll probably hopefully
[814]
know what I'm doing.
[816]
And otherwise, we'll figure it out
[817]
together. So if you enjoyed this
[819]
video and would like to see how I am
[821]
trading the $10,000 that
[823]
you asked me to put in the account,
[824]
I gave you several options.
[825]
You said do $10,000.
[827]
So we'll see how quickly we
[829]
can grow this $10,000 account.
[832]
And if you would like to watch me
[833]
how to do this, click on Subscribe
[835]
right now and hit the little
[836]
notification bell because this way
[838]
you got a notification from YouTube
[840]
whenever I release a new video
[842]
or when I'm going live and show
