Coinbase Exchange Tutorial - How To Buy Bitcoin On Coinbase - YouTube
Channel: Immersive Tech TV
[0]
- In today's video, I'm going
over an in-depth tutorial
[2]
on how to buy and sell
cryptocurrency on the Coinbase app,
[5]
how to set up its security features
[6]
and how to navigate the
overall Coinbase exchange
[9]
on both their app and website.
[11]
(upbeat music)
[15]
Hey guys, this is Erik,
of Everyday Investing,
[17]
my new YouTube channel,
[19]
linked below, in the
video description box.
[21]
So if you are new here today,
[22]
definitely subscribe
to Everyday Investing,
[24]
my new YouTube channel linked below.
[26]
Also at any point, feel free to check out
[27]
the description box below.
[28]
I'll include a recap of
all the points I covered
[30]
in today's video.
[31]
So before I start today's
tutorial on how to use Coinbase,
[34]
if you are not familiar with the app,
[35]
feel free to first check
out my Coinbase review video
[38]
where I first talk about
what Coinbase actually is.
[40]
If you'd like to see that video,
[41]
it's actually part one of the series.
[43]
Feel free to check it out in
the video card right here.
[45]
But, if you're ready for part two
[47]
and ready to start the
tutorial, let's get started.
[50]
I'll be sharing my screen with you.
[51]
First, I'm gonna be going over
[52]
the desktop interface on the computer.
[54]
Secondly, I'll be covering the mobile app.
[57]
Okay guys, so once you create
an account on Coinbase,
[59]
and login this is gonna be
[60]
the dashboard on the desktop version.
[63]
As you can see there is a chart here
[65]
with the price breakdown,
the price changes
[68]
over the last hour, the
last day, last week,
[71]
the last month, the
last year and all time.
[76]
And you can see different
price fluctuations
[78]
throughout the day,
throughout the week, etc.
[81]
And again, you can see the price changes
[82]
for Bitcoin, Ethereum
and Litecoin as well.
[86]
So, right now we're gonna
leave it on Bitcoin.
[88]
Underneath that, you'll
see the recent activity
[91]
which just has your recent
transactions of buying,
[94]
selling or transferring Bitcoin
[96]
and other cryptocurrencies from Coinbase.
[99]
And on the right side,
you'll see your portfolio,
[101]
which just has a breakdown of the amounts
[103]
in your Bitcoin wallet,
your Ethereum wallet,
[105]
your Litecoin wallet,
your US dollar wallet
[107]
or equivalent country's currency.
[110]
And above that, you just
have your total balance
[112]
of all the wallets.
[114]
Okay, to the right of that you
have your Buy and Sell tab,
[117]
which is where you'll go to
buy and sell cryptocurrency
[120]
from the desktop exchange.
[121]
So, you can choose if
you want to buy Bitcoin,
[124]
Ethereum or Litecoin.
[127]
Let's say you wanna buy
Bitcoin in this example.
[130]
Underneath that, you'll
see payment method.
[132]
Here's where you can choose,
[134]
do you wanna buy with your bank account,
[135]
with a credit or debit card?
[137]
it's up to you.
[138]
Now, if you buy with credit or debit card,
[141]
the cryptocurrency is delivered instantly
[143]
to your Coinbase account,
[144]
but it is at a higher fee of 4% fee.
[147]
But if you purchase from a bank account,
[149]
it's a lower fee, 1.5% fee,
[152]
but it takes four to five business days
[154]
after you purchase with
your bank account before
[155]
the cryptocurrency is delivered
to your Coinbase account.
[158]
So you have a couple options there.
[160]
Now let's say you wanna buy
[162]
with your credit card
for instant delivery,
[165]
let's say $50 worth of Bitcoin,
[167]
you just type in 50,
[170]
and it'll convert it instantly
[171]
and you'll purchase the
equivalent Bitcoin amount
[173]
which is as you can see .01909837 Bitcoin,
[178]
you would just click buy instantly,
[181]
and it would buy the Bitcoin instantly
[182]
and deliver it to your Coinbase account.
[185]
As you can see there are limits
[186]
where it says increase limits.
[188]
When you first join,
there are limits to buying
[190]
with your bank account, with
your credit card account
[192]
but these limits can be raised
by verifying certain things
[196]
and just by purchasing cryptocurrency.
[199]
And again, the Cell tab,
very similar process.
[202]
You can choose, do you
want to withdraw your money
[205]
to your bank account or
to your PayPal account,
[208]
and again, the PayPal account
is instant withdrawal,
[210]
but it's a 4% fee,
whereas the bank account,
[213]
it's four to five business days,
[214]
but it's a 1.5% fee.
[216]
So you just have to
choose which one you want.
[218]
And again, you just withdraw
the certain amount you want.
[221]
Same way as you would buy.
[223]
One more thing I wanna show you guys is
[225]
not only can you buy a
specific US dollar amount,
[228]
but, you can also buy and sell
a specific Bitcoin amount.
[231]
So let's say, you wanna buy .1 Bitcoin,
[235]
it'll then convert it to the
equivalent US dollar amount.
[238]
So it works both ways, conversion.
[240]
Next up, we have the Send Request tab,
[243]
which is where you go to send
[245]
or request cryptocurrency
to your Coinbase account.
[248]
Basically, you'll just in here,
[250]
you'll go to your mobile
wallet or desktop wallet,
[252]
Copay, BitPay for Jack's wallet,
[254]
something like that, you'll
get the receiving address,
[257]
you'll copy that, and in
here, you'll paste it,
[261]
and once you paste it in here,
[262]
you can then choose how
much you wanna send.
[264]
So say you wanna send to
that particular wallet,
[266]
you wanna send change this to US dollar,
[270]
let's say you wanna send
$25 worth of Bitcoin.
[273]
Underneath here, you'll show
you how much you currently have
[276]
in that Bitcoin wallet.
[278]
And you can write an
optional message transfer,
[281]
and you'll just send funds.
[283]
It'll send the equivalent
Bitcoin amount of $25.
[286]
Conversely, you can also send
[288]
if you wanna send Bitcoin,
[289]
you can say I wanna send 1/4 of a Bitcoin.
[294]
It'll then send 1/4 of a Bitcoin,
[297]
and again, just send funds.
[298]
And it's the same
process to request funds.
[300]
Again, you just paste
the address right in here
[302]
and again you choose how
much you wanna request
[304]
whether it be Bitcoin, US dollar
[307]
or other cryptocurrency
within the Coinbase app.
[310]
Next up, you have the Accounts tab.
[313]
And this page basically is a breakdown
[315]
of all your cryptocurrency
wallets in Coinbase.
[317]
As you see you have your Bitcoin wallet,
[319]
your Ethereum wallet,
your Litecoin wallet,
[321]
your US dollar wallet and the BTC vault.
[325]
Now I won't go into too
much detail on the BTC vault
[327]
but essentially, it's just a further layer
[329]
of security for your Bitcoins.
[331]
If you transfer money
from your Bitcoin wallet
[333]
to your BTC vaults.
[335]
Once it's in the BTC
vault, it's more secure
[337]
because, if someone ever
hacks into your account
[340]
or they have access to your account,
[342]
and they try to transfer out any Bitcoin,
[345]
48 hours will still have to pass before
[347]
the Bitcoin transfer is initiated
[349]
which gives you time
to cancel the transfer.
[352]
If it's in your Bitcoin wallet,
[354]
and someone hacks your account,
[355]
it could be transferred instantly.
[356]
So it's just a layer of security,
[358]
but there's a further layer of security
[360]
I'm gonna go over in a minute
[361]
that I like even more than the BTC vault.
[363]
Next up, you have the Tools page.
[367]
And again this just shows addresses
[368]
you may have sent and
received from in the past.
[371]
Any recurring transactions
that you set up.
[374]
Any other reports as well as history
[377]
of your buying and selling
cryptocurrency on Coinbase.
[380]
The last one is the Settings tab.
[382]
This is where you'll set
up your user profile,
[383]
any changes to your
personal preferences here.
[387]
And, the security,
[388]
this is the one I like
a lot, security tab.
[390]
Coinbase is really secure platform
[392]
so I really appreciate that.
[394]
This is the one right here,
two factor authentication.
[396]
This is a very secure feature
[398]
you wanna definitely set that up.
[400]
You can set it up through your phone,
[402]
or also through an authenticator app
[404]
such as the Google Authenticator app
[406]
or the Authy Authenticator app.
[408]
You definitely wanna set that
up as a level of security
[411]
because if someone ever hacks,
[412]
they gain access to your username,
[414]
your email and your password
into your Coinbase account,
[417]
they still won't be able to
transfer any cryptocurrency
[420]
without the second authentication factor
[422]
which would be your phone.
[423]
So you definitely wanna go into security
[425]
under the Settings tab,
[427]
verify your phone, and set up
the Google Authenticator app
[430]
or Authy app, to get
that level of security.
[433]
Next to that, you have payment methods,
[435]
which is probably one of the
first areas you'll be going to
[438]
when you first create
an account on Coinbase.
[440]
Again, I've already set
up my payment methods.
[442]
I'm gonna blur them out
here for privacy reasons
[444]
but, this is where where
it says add payment method.
[447]
this is where you'll go
to add your bank accounts,
[449]
credit or debit cards
and your PayPal account
[451]
to buy and withdraw cryptocurrencies.
[454]
The last thing I wanna show
you is up in the right here,
[457]
where it says invite friends,
if you click on that,
[460]
that's where you go to get
your referral link right here.
[463]
And as you can see if you invite a friend
[465]
and they join Coinbase
through your referral link,
[468]
if they purchase $100
worth of digital currency,
[471]
cryptocurrency, within
their first 180 days,
[474]
both they and you will receive
$10 worth of free Bitcoin
[477]
to your Coinbase account.
[478]
So it's a pretty cool incentive
[480]
to spread the word.
[481]
Share Coinbase with your friends
[482]
so both of you can get
rewarded with free Bitcoin.
[485]
Alright, so as you can see,
[486]
there's a lot of functionality
[488]
in the dashboard version of Coinbase.
[489]
You can set up payment methods,
[491]
buy and sell cryptocurrencies,
[493]
set up two factor authentication,
[494]
and even edit your settings
and personal preferences.
[497]
Now that we've finish the
first part of the tutorial,
[499]
we're gonna now hop on to part two,
[501]
which is the mobile app version.
[502]
Let's get to it.
[503]
Alright, so inside the mobile
app version of Coinbase,
[506]
you'll see it's very similar
to the desktop version.
[508]
You'll see on the home screen there's
[509]
a chart with the current price changes
[511]
in Bitcoin, Ethereum and Litecoin.
[515]
And as you can see just
like the desktop version,
[516]
the charts will show you
the price changes over
[519]
the last hour, the last day,
the last week, the last month,
[523]
the last year and since all time.
[525]
Right beneath that chart,
[526]
you'll see your cryptocurrency wallets,
[528]
Bitcoin wallet, US dollar
wallet, Litecoin wallet
[531]
and your Ethereum wallet,
[533]
as well as the amounts in each wallet.
[535]
In the bottom,
[536]
you'll see buy and sell buttons.
[538]
That's where you'll go to
buy or sell cryptocurrency
[540]
So let's say you wanna
buy, just click on buy.
[543]
It will open up the buy menu
[545]
and you can choose if
you wanna buy Bitcoin,
[548]
Ethereum or Litecoin.
[550]
For the purpose of this video,
[551]
let's say we're gonna buy Bitcoin,
[554]
and let's say we wanna
buy $20 worth of Bitcoin.
[557]
So you type in 20 US dollars
[559]
and as you see, it converts it instantly
[561]
to the equivalent Bitcoin amount.
[563]
You would be purchasing .00764190 Bitcoin,
[568]
and where it says debit from,
[570]
you can choose, do you wanna purchase this
[571]
with your bank account
or with your credit card.
[574]
Again, credit card has
higher fees, 4% fee,
[577]
but it gets delivered
instantly to your account.
[579]
Whereas if you buy from a bank account,
[581]
the cryptocurrency will
take four to five days
[583]
before the Bitcoin is in your account.
[585]
So it's up to you.
[586]
And if you don't wanna purchase
a specific dollar amount,
[589]
but you wanna purchase let's say,
[591]
a whole one Bitcoin,
[592]
you just type in one Bitcoin,
[594]
and you can purchase the
whole Bitcoin as well.
[596]
Or if you wanna purchase, let's say,
[598]
.333, 1/3 of a Bitcoin,
[601]
you can do that as well.
[602]
It'll convert it to the
equivalent US dollar amount.
[605]
So that's pretty cool.
[606]
And back on the home screen,
[607]
you'll see it's also a very
similar process to sell.
[610]
Just click on sell button,
[612]
and again you'll be able to sell
[613]
Bitcoin, Ethereum or Litecoin.
[615]
And you just choose the
amount of cryptocurrency
[618]
or US dollar currency that you wanna sell.
[622]
And again, on the bottom, you just choose
[624]
do you wanna deposit
and withdraw your funds
[626]
to your bank account or
to your PayPal account.
[628]
So you have options there as well.
[630]
That's pretty much it on
the home screen of the app.
[632]
Again on the side menu it's just a summary
[634]
of the same things, buy and sell,
[636]
a summary of your wallet accounts.
[637]
You can see the balances in them.
[639]
And then of course, in
the bottom invite friends.
[641]
That's where you'll find your
referral link within the app.
[643]
The last cool feature on the app
[645]
is this little bell in
the top right corner.
[647]
If you click on that bell,
that opens up the alert tab.
[650]
So basically, in the app,
you can set up mobile alerts
[653]
so you don't have to
constantly be checking Coinbase
[656]
to see the price of Bitcoin
or Ethereum or Litecoin.
[659]
You can set up an alert
[660]
so if the price of bitcoin
drops to a certain amount,
[663]
at that point, you could
open up the app and buy.
[665]
So you just click on
the bottom, lower right,
[668]
and, it'll show you the current price
[670]
of Bitcoin which is 2602.
[672]
Let's say I don't wanna buy
any Bitcoin at this price
[674]
it's too high for me,
[675]
but I'm willing to buy if it hits 2400.
[678]
So I'll lower, I'll
scroll, till I hit 2400,
[683]
and I'll hit create alert.
[685]
So now, the instant that Bitcoin
[688]
the price drops below 2401,
[690]
I'll get a notification straight
to my phone from the app,
[692]
and I'll be able to open up the app
[693]
and purchase Bitcoin then.
[695]
So that's a pretty cool feature to have
[696]
so you don't have to constantly
be checking your phone.
[698]
And there you have it.
[699]
That pretty much sums up how to navigate
[701]
the Coinbase exchange on both
[702]
the desktop interface and the mobile app.
[704]
If you found the video helpful
[705]
and would like to join
Coinbase and give it a try,
[708]
I've put my referral link
down in the description below
