[0]
today we're getting into the latest
[1]
tesla news including the arrival of
[2]
cloud profiles new supercharger cube
[5]
lounges tesla insurance expanding and
[7]
the huge tax credit coming soon for all
[9]
evs including tesla's so let's get into
[11]
it
[14]
[Music]
[16]
first up today a feature that has long
[17]
been requested and talked about by elon
[19]
musk is cloud profiles back in 2017 elon
[22]
tweeted saying we are going to move all
[24]
info and settings to the cloud aka
[26]
server so any tesla you drive in the
[28]
world automatically adjust to you he
[31]
later reiterated this on twitter and it
[32]
hasn't been seen in the last five years
[35]
when you get into a tesla now you have
[36]
your driver profile that saves your
[38]
seating steering wheel climate and
[39]
mirror adjustments along with all of
[41]
your settings on screen this is a really
[43]
great feature but once you get into a
[45]
new car or drive another one you have to
[46]
start from scratch overall not a huge
[48]
deal but tesla has the capability to
[50]
make cloud profiles and it would mean
[52]
that anytime you enter a tesla anywhere
[53]
in the world you can have immediate
[55]
access to exactly what you like in your
[57]
tesla and how you like to have it set up
[59]
according to nada tesla app obtaining
[61]
the release notes for an upcoming
[62]
software release
[63]
2022.24 quote tesla is officially
[66]
calling the feature tesla profiles with
[68]
this latest update you'll be given the
[69]
option to tie your driver profile to
[71]
your tesla account they follow that up
[73]
with specifics saying settings such as
[75]
mirror seat and wheel positions will be
[77]
synced across other supported vehicles
[79]
so if you're lucky enough to have
[80]
multiple teslas in your household and
[82]
adjust your seat in one vehicle then the
[84]
settings will automatically be synced to
[86]
the other vehicle so it looks like you
[88]
link your tesla account to a tesla
[90]
rental or otherwise and then you can
[92]
sync your driver profile it appears that
[94]
this will include seat adjustments
[95]
autopilot settings driver preferences
[97]
like braking settings climate settings
[100]
navigation media recent destinations
[102]
navigation favorites and data sharing
[105]
preferences likely this feature has
[106]
taken so long to come out because tesla
[108]
wanted to include all of these things
[110]
with things like media navigation and
[112]
recent destinations it will truly set
[114]
tesla apart even further many won't want
[116]
to rent any other car because they know
[118]
they can have the car set up exactly as
[120]
they like with a quick sync of
[122]
everything if they rent a tesla i'm very
[123]
excited to see this feature come to be
[125]
another feature that is being improved
[127]
in
[127]
2022.24 according to not a tesla app is
[130]
the position of the blind spot camera
[132]
display currently on the model 3 and y
[134]
when you turn on your blinker you can
[136]
have it show the blind spot camera it
[138]
pops up in the bottom right of the
[139]
screen and actually can end up blocked
[141]
from view by your hand or the steering
[142]
wheel now it looks like tesla is
[144]
changing this here's a screenshot in the
[145]
top left of the screen and not a tesla
[147]
app says that you'll be able to choose
[149]
between three locations for where this
[151]
comes up on screen this video
[152]
demonstrates this perfectly and it's a
[154]
really simple interface if you want to
[156]
reposition it you simply drag the
[157]
positioning of the blind spot camera
[159]
where you want it for next time no
[160]
matter what it has to block something so
[162]
giving drivers choices is great the
[164]
three locations they mention include the
[166]
bottom corner closest to the steering
[168]
wheel the top corner closest to the
[169]
steering wheel or in the top corner of
[171]
the maps area closer to the driver as
[173]
you can see in their video this is just
[175]
another example of how great it can be
[177]
to get software updates over the course
[178]
of ownership it appears that with this
[180]
update you'll be able to choose where
[181]
your blind spot camera is that'll be
[183]
saved to your cloud profile and synced
[185]
to any other tesla you connect your
[187]
account with really impressive stuff one
[189]
more area that tesla is improving in
[190]
software right now is range predictions
[192]
rain predictions are extremely important
[194]
so that people can accurately plan
[196]
charging and not have range anxiety
[198]
according to at green the only wow
[200]
2022.20.7
[202]
seems to go into insane details to
[204]
improve range predictions even tire
[205]
pressure is taken into account amongst
[207]
many many other extra variables just
[210]
added also takes into account energy
[212]
loss to phone charging and 12 volt
[213]
accessories air density battery heat
[216]
slash cool dot dot dot this is a
[218]
background feature that owners might not
[219]
realize is there but tesla is ensuring
[221]
that every aspect that is using battery
[223]
is taken into account for range this is
[225]
great to see because i've definitely
[226]
experienced an inaccurate range
[228]
prediction that ended up adding an
[229]
unexpected supercharger stop halfway
[231]
through a road trip next up today some
[233]
big news for teslas and a tax credit
[235]
right now in the u.s teslas do not
[236]
qualify for any federal tax credit tesla
[239]
along with gm are ruled out because they
[241]
passed the manufacturer eligible cap of
[243]
200 000 evs once a company sells 200 000
[246]
eligible evs their cars are no longer
[248]
available for this credit it has
[249]
actually been a significant disadvantage
[251]
for tesla but hasn't seemed to hurt
[253]
their demand here's a chart of all evs
[255]
available and the tax credits they
[256]
qualify for multiple cars from audi bmw
[259]
fiat ford genesis hyundai jaguar lucid
[263]
mercedes porsche toyota vw and volvo
[266]
among others qualify for 7 500 in a tax
[269]
credit no cards from tesla or gm
[270]
qualified but that's about to change the
[272]
us senate is planning to move forward
[274]
with a new bill that will reform the ev
[276]
tax credit quote the main goal of the
[278]
reform and the one most people agree on
[280]
is the need to eliminate the tax credit
[282]
cap after automakers hit 200 000 evs
[285]
sold since it is putting automakers that
[287]
were early and pushing electric vehicles
[288]
at a disadvantage it also happens that
[290]
these automakers are american automakers
[293]
like tesla and gm while many foreign
[295]
automakers still have access to the
[296]
credit some of the points in this bill
[298]
include maintaining the federal tax
[300]
credit of 7 500 eliminating that tax
[302]
credit cap for automakers that hit 200
[304]
000 evs sold tax credit appears to be at
[307]
point of sale instead of on taxes making
[309]
it a much more direct impact on people
[312]
buying evs and then quote in order to
[313]
get the full credit the electric vehicle
[315]
needs to be assembled in north america
[317]
the majority of battery components need
[319]
to come from north america and contain a
[321]
certain percentage of minerals from
[322]
countries with free trade agreements
[324]
with the us there's some evs here that
[326]
many think are american-made but are
[328]
actually made in mexico that will not
[330]
qualify for this they are also adding a
[332]
tax credit on used evs that is four
[334]
thousand dollars really great to see
[336]
this for used evs zero emissions vans
[338]
suvs and trucks with msrp up to eighty
[340]
thousand dollars qualify electric sedans
[343]
up to fifty five thousand dollars
[344]
qualify and there is an income cap of
[346]
one hundred fifty thousand dollars or
[348]
three hundred thousand dollars for joint
[350]
filers the bill is not law yet but
[352]
everyone is on board and it is expected
[354]
to pass soon enough the bill itself is
[356]
very confusing as well and there are a
[357]
lot of specifics with these tax credits
[359]
it appears that the model s and x won't
[361]
qualify but certain model 3's under 55
[364]
000 will along with the model y
[366]
qualifying as an suv under eighty
[368]
thousand dollars for those cars they
[369]
will qualify for seventy five hundred
[371]
dollars off at the point of sale an
[373]
explanation of the bill specifically
[374]
says dealer can apply credit at time of
[377]
sale again this makes it much more
[379]
direct for a customer as opposed to
[380]
seeing the savings once their taxes are
[382]
paid as for the timeline of this credit
[384]
it will apply for vehicles purchased
[386]
beginning january 1st of 2023 and the
[388]
credit will terminate on december 31st
[391]
of 2032. the point of sale credit
[393]
doesn't stop there yet not only will
[395]
many more used evs including many teslas
[397]
qualify for four thousand dollars off at
[399]
the point of sale and many new teslas
[401]
qualify for seventy five hundred dollars
[402]
off at the point of sale but there's a
[404]
huge credit available for heavy-duty
[406]
commercial vehicles a very important
[408]
part of reducing emissions is reducing
[409]
the emissions from fleets and large
[411]
commercial vehicles most of these
[412]
vehicles are very expensive but tesla
[414]
announced the all-electric tesla semi
[416]
back in 2017 starting at 150 000 for a
[419]
300 mile range the price will likely be
[421]
more expensive when it truly comes out
[423]
but as part of this new build the tesla
[425]
semi will qualify for a 40 000 tax
[427]
credit a requirement for this credit is
[429]
a weight of 14 000 pounds which the semi
[432]
meets assuming there is no unexpected
[434]
restriction here this will be huge for
[435]
the tesla semi allowing fleet customers
[437]
to take advantage of this all-electric
[439]
truck for forty thousand dollars less
[441]
than tesla is charging for it that's big
[443]
for these customers and tesla as well
[445]
once they bring this to production as
[446]
pointed out by teslarati as well many
[448]
states have their own incentive on top
[450]
of this and in california there is a
[451]
hybrid and zero emission truck and bus
[454]
voucher incentive project this offers
[456]
incentives up to 120 000 for class 8
[459]
sustainable vehicles this paired with a
[461]
federal incentive could make the tesla
[462]
semi essentially free again huge for
[465]
fleet customers and tesla in general
[467]
judging based on tesla's pricing today
[469]
this is great news for the model y but
[470]
not so great news for the rest of
[472]
tesla's lineup standard range model 3
[474]
comes in under 55 000 msrp easily even
[478]
with some upgrades but the long range
[479]
and performance model 3 capped that for
[481]
the model y though both the long range
[483]
and performance models come in under 80
[485]
000 msrp for an suv so getting 7 500
[489]
there should be easy even if tesla
[490]
doesn't lower prices for the model s and
[493]
x however no tax credit and that does
[495]
make sense for cars as expensive as
[497]
these arguably if you're looking at a
[499]
105 000 plus car you're not needing a 7
[502]
500 incentive in order to make the
[503]
purchase feasible now as for the model 3
[506]
though i think we could see prices drop
[508]
if this passes on july 15th elon musk
[510]
said if inflation calms down we can
[512]
lower prices for cars he followed this
[514]
up on their earnings call to say if i
[516]
were to guess and i would take this with
[517]
a grain of salt i think inflation will
[519]
decline towards the end of this year we
[521]
are certainly seeing prices of
[523]
commodities trending lower if we see
[525]
indications that the inflation rate is
[527]
declining then we would not need to
[529]
increase our car prices it's possible
[531]
that there could be a slight decrease in
[533]
car prices but this is fundamentally
[534]
dependent on macroeconomic conditions
[537]
inflation it's not something we can
[539]
control so if they do see that calming
[541]
they should be able to lower prices
[542]
separate from this tax credit just a few
[544]
days later elon followed this up to say
[546]
inflation might be trending down more
[548]
tesla commodity prices are trending down
[550]
than up for what it's worth this should
[552]
mean that tesla is in a place to lower
[554]
prices soon enough and the first car for
[555]
them that it would make a lot of sense
[557]
for come 2023 is the long-range model 3
[559]
so that it can get that tax credit the
[561]
long range model 3 gets a 358 mile epa
[564]
range with stock wheels and comes in
[566]
just about 3 000 over the msrp cap for a
[569]
7 500 federal credit again assuming this
[572]
passes i definitely see tesla dropping
[574]
the model 3 under that price so that
[576]
both of their more affordable long-range
[577]
vehicles can qualify it would be an
[579]
extremely popular option now there's
[581]
still a lot up in the air about this but
[583]
it's exciting that tesla prices could
[584]
come down after over a year of price
[586]
hikes and that a new point of sale
[588]
credit will help even more people afford
[590]
them next up today tesla insurance has
[592]
expanded to a few more states tesla
[594]
insurance is a new type of insurance
[596]
that uses real-time driver data to
[598]
determine your premium of the 11 states
[600]
tesla insurance exists in 10 of them
[603]
have this feature california is the only
[605]
state without it as that was the
[606]
original state with the traditional
[608]
tesla insurance model recently utah and
[610]
maryland were added so you can get tesla
[613]
insurance based on real-time driving
[614]
data in arizona colorado illinois
[617]
maryland nevada ohio oregon texas utah
[620]
and virginia now the next states that
[622]
are expected to be added to tesla
[624]
insurance are florida and new jersey
[626]
what many people are seeing is that
[627]
tesla insurance can save them a lot and
[629]
tesla is seeing the impact of real-time
[630]
driving data on the safety of drivers
[633]
they are trying to reach as many states
[634]
as possible so we'll see how many more
[636]
they can get by the end of the year next
[638]
up today as tesla is continually
[640]
expanding their supercharger network
[641]
they have begun installing a new type of
[643]
lounge many superchargers are simply
[645]
located near shopping centers and places
[647]
with restrooms but a few superchargers
[649]
feature a lounge like the one in
[650]
kettleman city it has a ton of chargers
[652]
and a lounge with coffee vending
[654]
machines and tesla merch for sale inside
[656]
elon musk has also talked about a new
[658]
tesla supercharger in hollywood that
[660]
will be styled like an old 50s diner and
[662]
drive-in over in germany this week
[664]
though tesla partnered with bk world to
[666]
deploy lounges in a cube format quote bk
[668]
world of course offers bathroom
[670]
facilities while a comfortable lounge
[672]
area invites drivers to linger but the
[674]
concept is far more extensive for
[676]
instance it makes extremely efficient
[678]
use of the small footprint various
[680]
products are dispensed in a fully
[681]
automated way the food that drivers can
[683]
purchase on site is healthy fresh and
[685]
low in sugar when selecting the product
[687]
portfolio the planners deliberately
[689]
avoided working with large corporations
[691]
and chose instead to focus on keeping
[693]
things regional and sustainable together
[695]
with entrepreneur and investor marcel
[697]
janssen work is even going on to develop
[699]
an innovative and healthy food portfolio
[702]
especially for bkworld you can access
[704]
the lounge from the app and inside it
[706]
features vending machines a machine that
[708]
will make pizza restrooms air
[710]
conditioning a lounge area with a
[711]
nintendo switch seating and outlets
[714]
these are specifically deployable very
[716]
quickly and bk world says that they have
[718]
plans for 300 locations across europe it
[720]
isn't clear if these are going to always
[722]
be partnered with tesla but it will work
[724]
out very well if so this is a perfect
[726]
partnership with any company making a
[728]
charging station that isn't directly
[729]
close to places to rest use a restroom
[731]
and eat some food i really hope we can
[733]
see something like this come to the u.s
[735]
soon we'll definitely see something as
[737]
charging stations should be accelerating
[739]
exponentially in the years to come next
[741]
up today tesla has officially dropped
[742]
lifetime standard connectivity support
[744]
when you buy a tesla connectivity is a
[746]
big part of it it enables a lot of
[748]
features for customers like updated
[750]
navigation on screen but also allows
[752]
tesla to collect data for things like
[754]
autopilot tesla now sells a paid premium
[756]
connectivity package at ten dollars a
[758]
month to enable live traffic sentry mode
[760]
live streaming to your phone video
[762]
streaming music streaming and more but
[764]
the standard connectivity feature of
[766]
navigation has been free for life until
[768]
now the wording has updated and tesla
[770]
now says standard connectivity is
[772]
included in your vehicle at no
[774]
additional cost for eight years
[776]
beginning on the first day your vehicle
[777]
was delivered as new by tesla if you are
[779]
purchasing a used vehicle you will be
[781]
notified of how long your vehicle will
[783]
include access to standard connectivity
[785]
after that eight year mark it looks like
[787]
your only paid option is premium
[788]
connectivity as tesla says premium
[790]
connectivity is available as an annual
[792]
or a monthly subscription no paid option
[794]
to only get navigation data after eight
[797]
years many are upset to hear this but it
[799]
makes a lot of sense tesla's fleet will
[801]
be growing by millions each year and
[803]
including eight years of standard
[804]
connectivity is already much better than
[806]
most brands either way it's an
[807]
interesting update to note and could
[809]
affect buyers of used teslas in the
[811]
years to come last up today some updates
[813]
about other automakers the department of
[815]
energy has announced a conditional loan
[817]
of 2.5 billion dollars for gm ultim
[820]
sales this is a joint venture of gm and
[822]
lg energy solutions to finance a battery
[825]
factory in three states the factories
[827]
will be located in michigan ohio and
[829]
tennessee and are expected to create 6
[831]
600 construction jobs and 5 100
[834]
operations jobs once at full capacity
[836]
quote in total gm and lg are investing
[839]
more than 7 billion via the venture to
[841]
build three battery plants production at
[843]
its ohio battery plant is expected to
[846]
begin in august an ultim spokeswoman
[848]
said the plant in warren ohio currently
[850]
has 700 workers production is set to
[852]
begin at its tennessee plant in late
[854]
2023 and in michigan in 2024. this is
[857]
big news for gm and their plans to
[859]
manufacture a million evs a year by
[862]
2025. over at rivian it was announced
[864]
that they will be laying off six percent
[866]
of their workforce in order to focus on
[868]
the production ramp of the r1t as well
[870]
as their other vehicles layoffs have
[872]
happened to a number of tech companies
[873]
recently including tesla but rivian said
[875]
quote we are financially well positioned
[877]
and our mission is more important than
[879]
ever but to fully realize our potential
[881]
our strategy must support our
[883]
sustainable growth as we ramp toward
[885]
profitability we need to be able to
[886]
continue to grow and scale without
[888]
additional financing in this macro
[890]
environment to achieve this we have
[892]
simplified our product roadmap and
[893]
focused on where it is most impactful to
[895]
deploy capital
[897]
ceo said quote to those leaving rivien i
[899]
am genuinely sorry thank you for pouring
[901]
so much of yourself into what we're
[903]
building you will always be a part of
[905]
our story and continue to be an
[906]
important part of our community it's
[908]
unfortunate to see but it does make a
[910]
lot of sense they will need to pare down
[912]
a little bit focus on ramping and
[913]
getting profitable with evs at scale and
[916]
expand in the future they are aiming to
[917]
build 25 000 vehicles this year honda
[920]
this week teased the design process for
[921]
the prologue ev that they plan to launch
[923]
in 2024. honda is one of the furthest
[926]
behind companies when it comes to
[927]
electrification but they are planning to
[929]
deliver 100 electrified cars by 2040.
[932]
this would technically be able to
[934]
include certain hybrids in any case they
[936]
are developing the prolog suv based on
[938]
gm's ultim platform and plan to launch
[940]
it along with an all-electric acura suv
[943]
overall this video is really just a
[944]
teaser of the design of this car that is
[946]
a few years off but it's great to see
[948]
electric vehicle progress from another
[949]
big brand that's all the latest tesla
[951]
news for today so in the meantime if you
[952]
want to see the new paint colors that
[954]
could be coming soon to the model y you
[956]
can check out that video linked up here
[957]
