What White House Aides Call Ivanka Trump - YouTube

Ivanka Trump has been called a lot of things by American citizens since her father ascended
[4]
to the Presidency, bringing her into this White House.
[7]
But just how do White House aides refer to the so-called First Daughter behind her back?
[12]
Well, you may be surprised to hear that they don't like her that much either.
[15]
It's no big secret that Ivanka Trump isn't exactly a beloved figure to the American public.
[21]
According to a poll conducted by Refinery29 and CBS News in August 2018, only 18 percent
[27]
of American women between the ages 18 and 35 see the heiress-turned-presidential advisor
[32]
in a favorable light.
[33]
In contrast, 46 percent view her unfavorably, while 36 percent of millennial women polled
[39]
apparently just don't know what to think of her.
[41]
"Because she's beautiful, she's powerful, she's complicit."
[47]
While that poll was aimed only at young women, plenty of other Americans don't like Ivanka
[53]
that much, either, especially not the people who have to work with the political novice
[57]
in government.
[58]
In August 2017, Vanity Fair noted in a report that some White House employees are known
[63]
to refer to Ivanka as the "princess royal."
[66]
The condescending title apparently stems from the fact that her political career comes entirely
[70]
from her relationship with her father, rather than any relevant real-world experience.
[75]
Of course, these West Wing advisors never actually call Ivanka that to her face, except
[79]
for maybe former chief strategist Steve Bannon.
[82]
While Bannon was still working at the White House, he reportedly got into shouting matches
[86]
with Ivanka over her flaunting of White House protocol, according to journalist Bob Woodward's
[91]
book Fear: Trump in the White House.
[94]
One particular event that apparently infuriated some aides involved Ivanka being brought in
[98]
to rub shoulders with other world leaders in the President's place.
[102]
At a July 2017 meeting at the G-20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, the Trumps sparked controversy
[108]
when Donald asked Ivanka to sit in for him at a meeting hosted by German chancellor Angela
[113]
Merkel.
[114]
While Vanity Fair reported that it's not unusual for a world leader to have a delegate take
[118]
their seat at such a meeting, that didn't stop people on all sides from criticizing
[122]
the Trumps over what appeared to be blatant nepotism.
[124]
In response to a tweet featuring a photo of Ivanka at the meeting, former US ambassador
[129]
to Russia Michael McFaul had a very simple response, writing, quote: "This is strange.
[135]
Very strange."
[136]
Another person, who Vanity Fair simply described as a "former Trump advisor," reportedly said,
[141]
quote, "Excuse me … This is not a royal family, and she's not the princess royal."
[146]
But White House aides haven't, of course, only bashed Ivanka for that one incident.
[150]
And she's not the only family member getting some serious scorn.
[153]
Apparently, many advisors dislike Ivanka Trump and her husband, Jared Kushner, due to their
[158]
reportedly presumptuous behavior in Washington, D.C.
[161]
The couple moved from New York City to the District of Columbia to work in Donald Trump's
[166]
administration, but as Vanity Fair noted, it hasn't been a smooth transition, or a warm
[171]
reception.
[172]
Describing what makes them so unlikeable, an anonymous DC veteran told Vanity Fair,
[176]
"What is off-putting about them is they do not grasp their essential irrelevance.
[180]
They think they are special."
[181]
In addition to being political neophytes, the two advisors to President Trump have allegedly
[185]
acted rather rudely to White House staffers on occasion.
[189]
Describing Ivanka's professional demeanor, one ex-advisor said she leans too much on
[193]
her relationship with her father in order to get her way.
[196]
As the former staffer put it,
[198]
"She tries to charm you at first, and then there'll be the cutting remark in front of
[202]
her father."
[203]
Ivanka is also said to be particularly cold to staffers who her father doesn't like, playing
[208]
politics along family lines to an extent others find unseemly.
[212]
President Trump has acknowledged that there's some friction surrounding Ivanka in his White
[216]
House, and that their close relationship is probably to blame.
[219]
As he reportedly said at the G-20 meeting,
[221]
"If she weren't my daughter it would be so much easier for her.
[225]
It might be the only bad thing she has going, if you want to know the truth."
[228]
By comparison, White House staffers have more positive things to say about Trump's wife,
[233]
Melania.
[234]
According to one report by Business Insider, quote, "members of the permanent White House
[238]
staff instantly adored her."
[240]
Former staffers have reportedly said that her everyday interactions are notably thoughtful,
[244]
a big difference from the allegedly cold Ivanka.
[247]
Maybe staffers are more fond of Melania because she's less focused on government work than
[251]
Ivanka is angling to be.
[253]
Reportedly, Melania's main priority is to care for her son Barron.
[256]
Ivanka and her husband, meanwhile, appear to be trying to change the world.
[260]
Of course, it's possible that White House staffers just don't feel the need to criticize
[264]
Melania because the rest of the world does it for them.
[267]
The woman can't even decorate her house for Christmas without getting dragged by the whole
[271]
country.
[272]
You also get the feeling that Melania never asked for this.
[274]
Ivanka, though?
[275]
She showed up and dove right in.
