Do you want to sell products as your own brand? Then keep watching, because I will tell you exactly
[6]
how. Doing this is called private labeling or white
[10]
labeling. These 2 are almost the same, but not exactly. I will explain them both.
[18]
The process is as following: A manufacturer produces a generic product, e.g. a bottle.
[26]
This bottle has no brand, just a plain bottle; this is a white label. You buy these bottles
[34]
& put your own logo on it. & finally, you sell it to customers as your brand. So you
[41]
don't have to take care of the production, you only put your logo on it & do marketing.
[48]
A lot of influencers do this as well, e.g. fitness influencers who sell their own supplements.
[56]
Now you understand the concept, let's dive deeper into how to set it up. First you need
[63]
to decide which type of product you want. Pick something that sells well, or a product
[69]
from the branch you're active in. It's best to start with basic products, because the
[76]
quality may not be super high. So when starting try to avoid things like electronics, because
[82]
it can be fragile, or food, because of the expiring date. Remember, you will be responsible
[89]
for customer care, since customers see it as your product. So don't make it too hard
[96]
for yourself. If you still want a product in these categories it's possible, but then
[104]
test the product really good before ordering a lot. This is something you should always
[109]
do, but I'll talk about that in a minute.
[112]
Next, when you found the product you want, you need to find a supplier. There are several
[118]
ways to do this. You could simply use Google; search for the name of your product + the
[125]
words "white label". You could look on marketplaces like eBay,
[131]
Alibaba & Amazon. Or you can search on forums like Reddit. You should look for multiple
[139]
manufacturers, & compare them on price & how the product looks. When you found 1 or a few
[144]
you like, Send them a message you're interested in selling their white label, & ask for a
[151]
sample. You always have to try out the product in real life first, to see the quality & how
[157]
it looks. When you like the product, it's time to make it yours.
[163]
When buying a white label, you need to provide it with your own brand. But there are also
[169]
manufacturers that offer the option to private label it for you. So instead of shipping the
[175]
plain product, they already ship it with your logo on it. That's what's called private labeling.
[182]
E.g., an easy way to do this is with Alibaba, using: "Request for quotation". You pick a
[191]
product from Ali-express, & edit the picture with your brand logo. You can create your
[198]
logo yourself, or let another company do it. You upload the picture of the product, & a
[205]
picture of your logo in full size, & send the request.
[210]
Manufacturers will reach out to you, with price details for making the product. You
[215]
can compare the different manufacturers, & request a sample to see how the product looks with
[222]
your logo on it.
[223]
It's also possible to put your brand on it yourself, like when it's just a sticker. Then
[229]
just order the plain product, instead of letting the manufacturer private labeling it. In this
[236]
case, you have to find a company that produces labels, like stickers. There are a lot of
[242]
these companies. Again, request a sample with your logo. So now you've got a plain product
[249]
& a label with your logo on it, from 2 different companies. Apply your label to the product,
[256]
& see what it looks like. When you're happy with the result, you can bulk order them.
[262]
Now you've got your own brand, it's time for the final step: selling it. There are multiple
[268]
ways to sell your product. You could simply sell it on marketplaces, like eBay & Amazon,
[275]
but I highly recommend making an own online store, & making social media pages like Instagram
[281]
to promote. Since you just created your own brand, you also want to come across as a unique
[288]
brand, so an own online store & instagram page contribute to that.
[293]
When selling your product, take all the costs into account when calculating the price. So
[299]
all the things like the white product itself, the label, shipping costs to you, packaging,
[306]
& shipping costs to the customer. Also make sure to invest in marketing. E.g., ask influencers
[313]
who are active in the niche of your product to promote it, in trade for some free products
[318]
/ money. You have to invest in marketing to reach your audience, before you can start
[324]
selling. You could start by shipping the products from your own home / storage, & when you get
[330]
more orders you could look into dropshipping.
