Koch Brothers Go About Business As Usual In Russia - YouTube

Channel: The Young Turks

[0]
around 400 companies have withdrawn from
[2]
russia their services their businesses
[5]
again in part of punishing putin for
[7]
this invasion in ukraine um
[10]
there's one in particular that hasn't
[11]
well there's a few that happen i mean
[13]
the other day we talked about how papa
[14]
john's in some form or fashion also
[15]
hasn't
[16]
but this particular one you might not be
[18]
surprised by it is coke industries and
[20]
dave robertson is the president and ceo
[23]
of coke industries he did issue a
[24]
statement talking about the reasons
[25]
behind it and did start with a little
[26]
bit of a condemnation
[28]
for russia and what they were up to so
[29]
the horrific and abhorrent aggression
[31]
against ukraine is an affront to
[33]
humanity it violates our company's
[34]
values and principles which are grounded
[36]
in the fundamental truth that the system
[38]
most conducive to human well-being
[40]
progress civility and peace is one based
[42]
on respect for the dignity of the
[44]
individual the consistent rule of law
[46]
and the right to freely exchange goods
[48]
and services wow nice uh it also goes on
[50]
the statement continues on how they
[52]
won't be doing much about all these
[54]
horrible things that are going on coal
[55]
company guardian industry uh industries
[57]
operates two glass manufacturing
[59]
facilities in russia that employ about
[60]
600 people we have no other physical
[62]
assets in russia and outside of guardian
[65]
employ 15 individuals in the country now
[67]
while guardians business in russia is
[69]
very small part of coke we will not walk
[71]
away from our employees there or hand
[73]
over these manufacturing facilities to
[74]
the russian government so they can
[76]
operate and benefit from them there's a
[78]
report by bloomberg in 2011 it did
[80]
reveal that they also flaunted some of
[83]
american sanctions against iran so
[85]
different country with some sanctions
[86]
and
[88]
they went around those as well so the
[89]
billionaire koch brothers allegedly made
[91]
a ton of money off of sales of
[93]
petrochemical equipment to iran
[95]
they dodged the u.s trade ban using
[97]
foreign subsidiaries the company
[99]
allegedly engaged in illicit payments in
[101]
africa india and in the middle east from
[104]
99 to 2003 had to pay more than 400
[107]
million dollars in fines the report
[109]
quotes an employee saying that managers
[111]
taught them how to steal and cheat the
[113]
technique was called
[115]
the coke
[116]
method it's like they have a name for it
[119]
uh so specifically some of these
[120]
organizations uh they receive the
[121]
funding from the koch brothers uh the
[123]
koch industries are also towing this
[126]
company line because
[128]
obviously uh so there's a non-profit
[130]
that's funded by charles koch it's
[132]
called stand together and dan caldwell
[134]
tweeted this out the stand together
[135]
community supports targeted sanctions
[137]
against russia in response to his
[138]
immoral invasion of ukraine we also
[140]
believe that sanctions are a legitimate
[142]
tool of statecraft however broad-based
[144]
economic sanctions rarely achieve their
[146]
desired policy outcomes so how can we
[148]
support them
[149]
uh also dan um he's the
[151]
the vice president for foreign policy
[154]
for them as well
[155]
and uh the president of the american
[157]
institute for economic research which is
[159]
another coke funded organization they
[161]
echoed again with this message
[164]
the united states can and should do very
[166]
little for ukraine aier president will
[169]
ruger said ukraine simply doesn't matter
[171]
to america's security or our prosperity
[173]
on the issue of sanctions ruger
[174]
suggested that they make it much harder
[176]
actually for russia to stand down
[178]
because putin does not want to quote
[180]
appear to cry uncle
[182]
to this pressure also
[184]
further there's concerned veterans for
[186]
america that's another organization
[188]
that's funded by koch brothers and they
[189]
said this
[190]
i urge you to exercise and encourage
[192]
restraint as america responds to
[193]
russia's immoral invasion of ukraine we
[195]
should avoid actions that may aggravate
[197]
the situation further or have damaging
[199]
repercussions to the american prosperity
[202]
there's so many uh uh tentacles and
[204]
lines and connections from koch
[206]
industries to some of the other
[206]
companies that they're funding and also
[208]
work with
[209]
that this uh this handy little image
[211]
here shows us exactly how many different
[213]
connections those are i could explain it
[215]
to you but i'd have to first look deeper
[217]
into it for the next 45 minutes to an
[220]
hour but that's how many uh angles they
[222]
have at this
[223]
so
[224]
let's it just translate for you guys
[226]
right because they
[228]
they they speak in horse crap and uh and
[231]
i and i'm a decoder of it okay
[234]
so uh they say oh the horrific
[236]
aggression of the russians is just
[237]
terrible
[238]
and then they speak out of both sides of
[240]
their mouth and they send their
[242]
political groups to go out and say as jr
[244]
just read you ukraine doesn't really
[246]
matter
[247]
it's not worth getting involved in and
[249]
at the end they say now remember let's
[251]
remember the most important thing is
[252]
american prosperity which by the way
[254]
means their own prosperity they don't
[257]
mean your prosperity they mean
[259]
no even though
[261]
charles koch is one of the richest
[262]
people on the planet
[264]
his greed is endless
[266]
he's like oh the ukrainians are getting
[267]
murdered i don't care at all
[269]
i care about my prosperity i need
[271]
another billion on top on top of my what
[274]
is it he up to 48 billion 34 billion
[277]
what difference does it make that enough
[279]
bro hey hey
[280]
charles monster coke
[284]
when is it enough
[285]
dude you're in your 80s what are you
[287]
gonna do with it
[289]
so you're gonna how many ukrainians are
[291]
gonna die
[292]
so you can make an extra couple of bucks
[295]
so then they get into the horse crap
[297]
about oh the some sanctions work and
[299]
others don't in other words the ones
[300]
that don't affect us are fine with the
[303]
ones that do affect us hey hey hey that
[305]
cost me 13 bucks okay
[308]
now so do sanctions work yes now do they
[311]
work all the time absolutely not so
[314]
where do they work they work in a in a
[317]
in a country where it's not one dictator
[319]
like saddam hussein or kim jong-un
[321]
because they're never going to run out
[322]
of caviar and they don't care about
[324]
anyone else
[325]
and they don't work in a system where it
[327]
affects everyone equally
[330]
they work best when there is
[332]
a group of people that have economic
[335]
power that isn't just one person
[338]
like oligarchs how do we know they've
[341]
worked in the past
[342]
a situation just like that was south
[344]
africa and after you put enough pressure
[346]
and sanctions on
[348]
the wealthy of south africa said
[351]
mas we've had enough it's cost us too
[353]
much money we're going to change
[355]
apartheid now are they working in russia
[357]
in this particular case we just covered
[359]
on the show yesterday putin came out
[361]
saying now the sanctions have devastated
[363]
us putin is saying right and i need the
[366]
russian people to brace for impact
[368]
because inflation is going to be bad our
[370]
markets are hurt our uh ruble's in am is
[374]
in massive trouble but let's stick
[376]
together as russians it's all worth it
[378]
for my glory i mean russian glory right
[381]
so
[382]
putin himself is telling you how much is
[384]
hurting him and how he's lost leverage
[387]
we're hearing stories of how oligarchs
[389]
are pissed at putin which is what you
[391]
want so they could put pressure on him
[393]
to end it and here comes the koch method
[396]
going yeah but it's
[398]
putting sanctions on the russians even
[400]
though it's working it might save
[401]
thousands of lives in ukraine it's going
[404]
to cost us 30 or 40 bucks
[406]
and so our infinite greed says let them
[409]
die and that's who charles coke is
[411]
that's exactly the kind of monster he is
[414]
amy
[415]
yeah another role that this could play
[417]
um in the peace talks really is giving
[419]
the power
[420]
to be part of the negotiation saying
[422]
that you know if you come to a peaceful
[424]
negotiation then we'll lift these
[427]
sanctions and that's another important
[428]
uh you know aspect when you look at this
[431]
and then i'd like to add you know i was
[432]
thinking to myself you know why is this
[434]
even a story
[436]
and you know i think it comes down to
[438]
because of the political influence that
[440]
the koch brothers and and their business
[442]
has in our political discourse in this
[445]
country i mean i was looking it up and
[447]
since 1990 they have they funneled in
[450]
over 72 million dollars into campaigns
[453]
with 14 and a half million going into
[455]
campaigns just this last cycle and it
[458]
more than doubles when we talk about the
[459]
money they're putting into lobbyists so
[462]
it really goes back to really
[463]
highlighting again you know the the
[465]
sickness we have in this country and
[467]
allowing corporations to act as
[469]
individuals that have a voice in our
[471]
political system um and it gives them
[473]
much more power than they should have so
[475]
amy great point because
[478]
why do we even care about the kochs we
[480]
only care
[481]
not because like we care about one
[483]
billionaire's opinion
[484]
no because he buys half our politicians
[488]
they're the largest political donors in
[490]
the country all these people have insane
[492]
conspiracy theories about oh soros and
[494]
and the and the
[495]
council of zion runs the world and
[498]
insanity right no the kochs the mercers
[501]
the
[502]
largest donors in the world to
[504]
politicians actually control the
[507]
politicians because they give them
[508]
literally millions of dollars and
[509]
they're not at all jewish it doesn't
[511]
have anything to do with insanity like
[513]
that it has to do with the real world
[514]
the real world is they're greedy and
[516]
they think
[517]
hey you know what i pay an american
[519]
politician they're going to do exactly
[520]
what i want they're they're my dogs now
[523]
how do they know that through history
[525]
and so if you don't know the kochs
[528]
originally made a huge part of their
[530]
portion
[531]
their fortune
[532]
by stealing from native americans they
[535]
got caught
[536]
they were
[537]
being investigated by the federal
[539]
government and that is when they first
[540]
discovered this was decades ago
[542]
oh the supreme court allows us to put
[544]
money into politics
[546]
and they started buying senators one of
[548]
the very first senators they bought was
[550]
bob dole who later
[552]
not coincidentally became the republican
[555]
presidential candidate against bill
[557]
clinton why because he had the most
[558]
money where'd he get the money from the
[560]
koch brothers and from koch industries
[562]
which are based in kansas's home state
[565]
and shockingly enough the senators that
[567]
they initially contributed to help
[569]
dismiss the case against them
[571]
they steal they rob they do the coke
[574]
method and then later they buy
[576]
republicans and the republicans say oh
[578]
uh we don't want to regulate
[581]
koch industries because that would be
[583]
against
[584]
freedom
[586]
no
[587]
no it's just the most obvious corruption
[589]
you've ever seen
[590]
it's basically our oligarchs
[593]
people like charles koch saying you
[595]
better not touch their oligarchs
[597]
all of us corrupt people across the
[599]
world are in this together no matter who
[601]
dies there's been talk and i wonder this
[604]
too because as i hear it you talk about
[606]
the people that are actually on the
[607]
ground saying russia
[609]
ukraine belarus because belarus is part
[611]
of some of those uh some of those
[612]
sanctions that we're talking about at
[613]
the first off the jump when it comes to
[615]
the trade things so they're going to
[617]
feel the pain as well
[618]
what about those people so i get it what
[620]
about those people that are affected
[622]
because the cook industries and things
[623]
like this will be the the driver that
[625]
allows them to buy more politicians i
[627]
think they can pull these types of
[628]
schemes but then there's people really
[629]
on the ground that are affected and how
[630]
much of a voice do they really have when
[632]
it comes to shouting at someone like
[634]
putin
[635]
hey this is hurting you might want to
[636]
change course how much does he really
[638]
care and what limits does he have once
[640]
that happens is the question
[642]
yeah well i mean i don't think charles
[644]
code cares about anything other than
[646]
money um
[647]
and he's a terrible guy uh and but guys
[650]
this isn't about uh
[652]
one particular evil person or another
[654]
it's about the system so amy's a
[656]
candidate in nevada uh a mainly vegas
[659]
area and she doesn't take corporate pac
[661]
money in fact she was a one of the
[662]
original justice democrats and and we
[664]
did the rule about you can't take
[666]
corporate pac money because it corrupts
[667]
it corrupts by definition it does and
[670]
and here's uh most of the republican
[672]
party taking that uh charles coke money
[674]
and if you're a republican who's always
[675]
say oh george soros he's super evil and
[678]
he's the one that's the puppeteer and
[679]
controlling people then why would you be
[681]
in favor of charles cook being your
[683]
puppeteer moving all of your politicians
[685]
around and getting them to betray you
[688]
betray innocent people for their own
[691]
profits let's get all the money out of
[693]
politics then we don't have to worry
[694]
about oligarchs here in america thanks
