Channel: Thomas C Chan - Financial Services
[6]
what's going on guys welcome back to
[7]
another episode it's thomas here
[9]
this week is somewhat special not only
[12]
we have an extra day off but we also get
[14]
to celebrate thanksgiving
[15]
enjoy some turkey and have a little
[17]
bonding time with our families
[18]
what's also special is that starting
[21]
october 12th
[22]
you guys can finally apply for the
[24]
canada recovery benefits
[26]
now i know it's only been two three
[28]
weeks since the announcement and it
[30]
seems like there's already
[31]
overwhelming of information out there
[33]
already since a lot of people are still
[35]
confused about whether if you should
[37]
apply for ei
[38]
or clb i decided in this video i will
[41]
list
[42]
seven different scenarios to help you
[44]
understand which
[45]
benefits you can qualify now disclaimer
[48]
alert just like last time
[49]
i want to point out that all the
[51]
information that i have in here
[53]
is based on the government's official
[55]
websites so for most accurate
[56]
information
[57]
please feel free to go back and check
[59]
also if you find this video useful
[62]
do me a favor give it a thumbs up so
[64]
youtube know as good stuff
[65]
and share it to more people who need now
[67]
that we got these out of the way let's
[69]
get started
[70]
so case number one i was on my ei before
[73]
march
[74]
and it got switched to clb i still
[76]
couldn't find a job right now
[78]
should i apply for ei or clb in this
[81]
scenario you want to apply for ei
[83]
and you don't need to reapply again
[85]
since you already applied through
[86]
service canada before
[88]
it will automatically transfer your
[89]
application back
[91]
if you get approved for ei you just have
[93]
to submit your report every two weeks
[96]
second scenario i lost my job in june
[99]
and i only applied for clb
[101]
i'm still jobless right now should i
[103]
apply for eilclb then
[105]
so the answer to this scenario is if you
[108]
are an employee before
[109]
and have worked at least 120 insurable
[112]
hours
[112]
then you should apply for ei not clb
[116]
this time you have to go to service
[117]
canada along with your record
[119]
employment or roe for shorts to obtain
[122]
your regular employment
[123]
you can go to your employer usually you
[125]
can get neither an electronic copy or
[128]
printed copy
[129]
for electronic copies 9 out of 10 times
[131]
your employer will submit it for you
[134]
on your behalf so you don't need to
[135]
worry about getting a copy
[137]
if you're not sure you can log into your
[139]
service canada account and take a look
[141]
there should be one uploaded already if
[144]
your employer took care of it for you
[146]
for printed copies you can submit it to
[148]
a service canada service center
[150]
or you can mail in just make sure you
[152]
given them enough time to process
[155]
scenario free i think a lot of you guys
[157]
asked i was working until may
[160]
that my employer asked me to take a
[161]
short leave i resumed work
[164]
in september but my hours got reduced
[166]
should i apply for ei or clb in this
[168]
case
[169]
so if you're working and your employer
[172]
asks you to go on a short term leave
[173]
then come back to work
[175]
this is called a temporary layoff and
[177]
you are completely eligible for ei
[179]
however if you have been working
[181]
continuously throughout the year but as
[184]
only your hours got
[185]
reduced then this case you're not
[187]
eligible for ei
[189]
the key here is to obtain a copy of the
[191]
roe
[192]
because it shows that you are not
[194]
working during that time
[195]
as long as the ioe shows that you lost a
[198]
job or didn't get compensated for seven
[200]
consecutive days
[202]
then you are qualified for ei let me
[204]
repeat that again
[205]
so there's a difference between reduced
[207]
hours
[208]
and temporary layoff you need to
[210]
communicate with your employer
[212]
as far as i know employers in some
[214]
province are mandatory to give you an
[217]
roe for temporary layoff
[219]
while employers in some province are not
[221]
if your boss isn't willing to give you
[223]
one
[224]
it's best to contact surface canada
[226]
another case that is similar to scenario
[229]
free
[229]
i have been working but now my income is
[232]
less than 50
[233]
of what i used to make can i apply for
[235]
crp then
[237]
in this case unfortunately you cannot as
[239]
long as you have worked 120 insurable
[242]
hours and you can receive an roe then
[245]
you can only stick to ei
[247]
in other words if you're a self-employed
[249]
or contractor that have never
[251]
contributed to ei
[253]
or you haven't worked for 120 ensurable
[256]
hours
[256]
then you can apply for clb given that
[259]
your income is 50
[261]
reduced a lot of people thought they
[263]
need to be jobless when they are
[265]
applying for ei
[266]
the truth is you can work while you're
[269]
applying for ei
[270]
and you can work even when you're
[272]
collecting ei
[273]
you just need to have a period that you
[276]
got laid off
[277]
or you have been without work or without
[280]
pay for at least seven consecutive days
[282]
in the past 52 weeks
[285]
for ei how much can i make before i have
[287]
to pay back the ei
[289]
is it 38 000 so for the 38 000
[293]
cap it's only applicable to clb but not
[297]
ei
[297]
for ei you can keep 50 cents of your
[300]
benefits for every dollar you earn
[303]
up to 90 of your previous weekly
[305]
earnings
[306]
above this cap your ei benefits are
[309]
deduct
[309]
dollar for dollar also you are not
[312]
eligible to receive ei benefits
[314]
if you are working in a full week
[316]
regardless of the amount that you earn
[318]
however this will not reduce the total
[321]
number of weeks payable
[322]
on your claim let's take a look at an
[325]
example
[326]
say your original income was a thousand
[328]
dollars a month
[329]
and you have been collecting ei then you
[332]
got another job making 500
[334]
a month as a result you need to pay two
[337]
hundred and
[338]
fifty dollars back to ei the following
[340]
year when you file your taxes
[342]
in the end you will be able to keep a
[345]
thousand
[345]
and seven hundred dollar and fifty from
[347]
ei and five hundred dollars from your
[350]
work
[350]
for a total of two thousand two hundred
[353]
and fifty dollars
[354]
which is still better off than
[355]
collecting ei only
[357]
for the clb 38 000 cap it's 50 cents for
[361]
every dollar on top
[362]
of the 38 000 the income we are talking
[365]
about here is the net
[366]
income which is usually the number on
[368]
the line 23600
[371]
for the canada year excluding the clb
[373]
payments
[374]
for details you can check my previous
[376]
video you can click the link at the top
[378]
corner
[379]
alright scenario six for some of you you
[382]
might be asking
[383]
what if i have two jobs one is full-time
[386]
employee
[386]
and the other one is part-time
[388]
self-employed i don't lay off from my
[390]
full-time jobs should i apply for ei or
[392]
clb
[394]
so the answer for that is as long as
[396]
you're a full-time job you have bank 120
[399]
ensurable
[400]
hours and you got laid off then you
[402]
should apply for ei
[403]
not clb once you're qualified for ei
[407]
then the income from your side job will
[408]
trigger the yi clawback
[411]
okay for the last scenario what if i use
[414]
up all my ei regular benefits
[416]
or i was on maternity leave and i also
[418]
use up all the parental ei
[421]
can i still apply for clb i want to
[424]
quickly recap on how you can qualify for
[426]
clb
[427]
first of all in order to qualify for crb
[430]
you cannot be eligible for ei
[433]
at the same time your income has to be
[435]
50
[436]
less compared to 2019 or the last 12
[440]
months
[440]
so in this case where you exhausted all
[443]
the ei
[444]
you are technically no longer ei
[446]
eligible and that's when you can start
[448]
looking into clb but like i said in the
[451]
last video
[451]
this is in the gray area and as there
[454]
isn't any black and white on the
[456]
official website about this
[457]
so apply it at your own discretion but
[460]
hey if you fall into this category and
[462]
you have a definite answer
[464]
from an official please let me know in
[466]
the comment section so i can update as
[468]
well
[468]
alright that's what i have for you today
[470]
if you feel you are not in the seven
[472]
examples about feel free to comment
[474]
below
[475]
or you can shoot me an email now with
[478]
that being said
[479]
on this year thanksgiving have a
[481]
wonderful time with family
[482]
and i sincerely wish you the best of
[485]
luck of getting your income back
[486]
we'll get through this together this is
[488]
thomas and i'll see you guys in the next
[490]
video
[491]
bye guys
