Channel: Bob Sharpe

[0]
q q q this etf tracks the nasdaq 100 and since聽 2016 has seen a 215 gain but some people are聽聽
[9]
calling it a bad investment well today we're going聽 to dig into the invesco qqq etf and see what all聽聽
[14]
the hype's about and if it's a good or a bad聽 investment for the long term so if you're ready聽聽
[18]
to get started as always don't be dumb tap the聽 thumb on the video let's get right to it so first聽聽
[24]
let's talk basics and then we're going to go聽 into how you can make a massive amount of income聽聽
[27]
with the qqq etf long term and number three聽 we're actually going to dive into wait a minute聽聽
[32]
is it actually a good investment why are people聽 saying it's a bad investment and what do you聽聽
[36]
need to watch out for as always this is for聽 edutainment purposes only i'm just some dude on聽聽
[40]
youtube this sometimes looks like woody from toy聽 story this is not financial advice so instead of聽聽
[45]
putting all your eggs into one basket such as聽 a tesla an apple or any of those other stocks聽聽
[50]
why not own them all that's the purpose of qqq聽 and etfs in general now kiki q ah can i call it聽聽
[57]
something different can i call it q because i'm聽 tired of saying qqq are we good are we good if聽聽
[62]
we're good just comment below and say we're good聽 q as of the recording of this video is going for聽聽
[68]
373.83 per share and it's currently up 20.86聽 percent year-to-date not too bad at all聽聽
[77]
what's really nice about q in my opinion is that聽 it's passively managed and because it's passively聽聽
[82]
managed in the high-tech world it gives an expense聽 ratio of only zero point two zero percent of聽聽
[87]
course that means for every ten thousand dollars聽 that you invest you're only going to put up 20聽聽
[91]
bucks now what's the nasdaq 100 well that's the聽 index that q follows now with the nasdaq 100 they聽聽
[98]
make up a collection of 100 of nasdaq's largest聽 non-financial companies now that being said q聽聽
[104]
is tech heavy and you can see a lot of that聽 based on the holdings let's dig into the聽聽
[109]
holdings right now 48.74 of the etf is invested聽 in information technology with the largest two of聽聽
[117]
that particular sector being apple and microsoft聽 as of the recording of this video you then have聽聽
[122]
19.23 percent of the holdings in communication聽 services such as google facebook comcast netflix聽聽
[128]
and things like that 17.08 percent of consumer聽 discretionary like amazon starbucks and tesla聽聽
[133]
and then 6.72 in healthcare with most of that聽 actually going to moderna and bringing up the rear聽聽
[140]
is utilities at a whopping 0.86 percent so that聽 means if you buy into the etf you buy one share聽聽
[145]
two shares whatever of qq you end up spreading out聽 that money across the percentages of all of these聽聽
[152]
different sectors and that's what kind of makes聽 it nicely diversified but you got to keep in mind聽聽
[156]
most of it goes toward information technology聽 with a lot of it kind of leaning toward apple聽聽
[161]
and microsoft so if you want an etf heavy in the聽 tech stocks qqq might be your jam so how do we聽聽
[167]
make the most money well the first tip i have for聽 you out of many is don't freak out when we go in聽聽
[171]
the red now a lot of times these high-tech stocks聽 tend to be volatile they go up and down depending聽聽
[176]
on what's going on in the market and what's聽 going on in the industry as well so a lot of聽聽
[180]
people will say the terrible term should i just聽 cut my losses and be done with it and that's the聽聽
[186]
worst thing you can do especially when it comes聽 down to tech and innovation tech and innovation聽聽
[190]
is focused on the future they're trying to figure聽 out things that are going to make our lives better聽聽
[194]
long term and if you're just worried about the聽 day by day and you cut your losses on the red聽聽
[199]
you might miss a boom that's about to happen stay聽 with the person you brought to the dance until the聽聽
[205]
dance floor gets hot so if i stack up the nasdaq聽 100 etf against two of the s p 500 indexes you can聽聽
[212]
see where this really gets exciting so i'm going聽 to compare with portfolio visualizer qqq spy which聽聽
[218]
tracks the s p 500 and vo which also tracks聽 the s p 500 now if you look at this an initial聽聽
[224]
investment of ten thousand dollars from 2016 to聽 2021 grows pretty much the same between spy and vu聽聽
[230]
as expected since they're both tracking the same聽 index of the s p 500 but well above and beyond is聽聽
[237]
qqq growing my ten thousand dollars to an exciting聽 thirty five thousand five hundred and twenty eight聽聽
[242]
dollars which is eleven thousand dollars more than聽 vu and spy but warning warning warning i'm not聽聽
[250]
saying that q is better than spy or vue because聽 again there are two different things we're talking聽聽
[256]
a little bit apples and oranges here we're talking聽 about s p 500 we're talking about nasdaq 100聽聽
[260]
heavily focused in tech stocks but remember in聽 building your ultimate portfolio you might want聽聽
[264]
a mix of all these different things what i always聽 look for are things like those high-tech growth聽聽
[269]
type of etfs and then look at a steady s p 500 or聽 a total stock market growth etf then look at some聽聽
[275]
international and then for fun look for some bonds聽 that way you have a little bit of a diversity聽聽
[280]
inside of your etf portfolio now if you haven't聽 started investing yet make sure you check out the聽聽
[284]
weeble investing app you can get two free stocks聽 when you sign up today you get your first stock聽聽
[288]
when you open your weibo account and then you can聽 get a second stock once you deposit your first聽聽
[293]
amount that you can invest in the stock market get聽 started today the link is in the description below聽聽
[298]
now back to the video and that leads us to believe聽 after we just looked at all this we looked at how聽聽
[302]
things are going so well with a 215 return since聽 2016 20 up on the year why are people saying this聽聽
[309]
is a bad investment because people some people聽 are still very worried about big tech now if聽聽
[314]
you look back on the history of qqq there's聽 a lot of potential volatility that can happen聽聽
[318]
with this particular tech focus dtf for example in聽 the inception qq in may 1999 things were looking聽聽
[327]
up in fact check this out right before the dot-com聽 bubble burst of 2000 you would have been up 122聽聽
[334]
if you invested in may 1999 a year later in may聽 2000 you're like dude qqq is like the best etf聽聽
[340]
ever i am up to 122 this is awesome but then guess聽 what happens the bubble burst you may have heard聽聽
[346]
of the dot-com bubble burst back in 2000 and this聽 one of course because it's heavily invested in聽聽
[350]
that kind of stuff went down with it and then聽 you would have to wait a long painful dreaded聽聽
[357]
eight years to finally see green in november聽 2007 and then followed up by another recession聽聽
[365]
and then consistent gains 11 years later that's聽 quite a long time and some people don't have the聽聽
[370]
stomach to hold on for that long of a time what's聽 interesting though if we look back in 2000 when it聽聽
[376]
was just a brand new etf we can see a lot of the聽 holdings actually were tied up in cisco microsoft聽聽
[382]
and intel that looks totally different than what聽 they invest in today with their holdings you may聽聽
[387]
remember we're looking at things like apple and聽 google the only constant is microsoft now staying聽聽
[394]
at the top and cisco and intel getting kind of聽 pushed down on that chart over the last 13 years聽聽
[400]
now worst yet let's say you invested at the high聽 of 2000 because a lot of people learn about these聽聽
[404]
type of stocks these type of etfs when things are聽 hyped up when everybody's talking about it and聽聽
[409]
you invest at the high in 2000 so what that looks聽 like is you have to wait a bloody 16 years to see聽聽
[416]
your portfolio turn green now most of you probably聽 didn't buy qqq back in those days but if you did聽聽
[423]
drop me a comment down below i'd be interested in聽 how much you made or did you cut your losses and聽聽
[427]
sell at a loss but if you didn't and if you're聽 still holding on today you know you're up 620聽聽
[433]
on your initial investment that is well done聽 so you have to ask yourself right now as we聽聽
[438]
stand here today am i okay investing in what some聽 people are calling an all-time high or is there聽聽
[444]
room for this to continue to grow especially with聽 tech and innovation companies this is where you聽聽
[448]
really especially with etfs you need to dig into聽 this you need to look into their holdings and see聽聽
[452]
what's going on you need to look in things聽 okay they have most of it tied up in apple聽聽
[456]
microsoft google and things like that聽 do i feel confident in those companies聽聽
[460]
or are they a bunch of circuit cities and sears聽 and things like that that's what you got to look聽聽
[464]
at and if you feel confident that there is a lot聽 of runway for these type of companies then that聽聽
[469]
is something that you can consider when investing聽 in something like qqq because the goal would be聽聽
[474]
even if you invested it today at what some people聽 keep saying it's an all-time high well if it is聽聽
[479]
you got to be okay with a little bit of a dip and聽 then you got to ride it to the promised land and聽聽
[482]
that is what you need to focus on in looking at聽 the holdings are you confident in these holdings聽聽
[486]
taking you up to the next level you got to treat聽 investing like a business not like a roulette聽聽
[491]
wheel don't get rich overnight and guess what聽 all those people that had the the pain of the聽聽
[495]
2000.com bubble the 2001 uh 911 recession and then聽 you had the 2008 financial crisis if you just held聽聽
[502]
on through all that yes that's a long freaking聽 time nobody wants to wait 16 17 even 21 years聽聽
[507]
but if you waited 21 years and you sold today you聽 made 622 percent on your money so that's where you聽聽
[513]
got to kind of stomach it up am i okay that if we聽 decide to do this and all hell breaks loose am i聽聽
[519]
okay losing the money and potentially holding out聽 for the next 10 years until this thing recovers聽聽
[524]
and then gets me the money i want but聽 check this out this might make you feel聽聽
[529]
maybe better or make you laugh fidelity recently聽 did a study of the highest returns that they had聽聽
[534]
with their account holders they found out that聽 the people with the highest returns were all dead聽聽
[542]
no i'm just kidding they were not dead but they聽 were inactive holders which means that they didn't聽聽
[547]
actually log into their account and they were聽 kind of wondering where you guys at you never log聽聽
[551]
in but man your returns are off the chart well it聽 turns out that these people forgot that they had a聽聽
[556]
fidelity account they literally invested money and聽 freaking forgot i literally forgot about it like聽聽
[562]
they figured oh that's right i did i did that聽 back in like you know 2005. are you kidding me聽聽
[567]
those are the people with the highest returns but聽 i think that that tells us something the people聽聽
[572]
with the highest returns are the ones that forget聽 about their money they invest it they're confident聽聽
[576]
in it and they let it go and they let it grow聽 that is the goal of living the ultimate sweet life聽聽
[581]
because surprise you got a ton of money here's聽 the next video to check out here's a video聽聽
[586]
youtube thinks you're going to like subscribe聽 for more and we'll see you on the next video
