Why Instagram Is Full of Frauds - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
on this channel we love exposing fake
[1]
gurus explaining why the new investment
[3]
you've been pitched is a ponzi scheme
[5]
and why athletes go broke
[6]
one thing we haven't discussed yet is
[8]
instagram being the mecca of fraudulent
[10]
behavior
[10]
in this video we're going to dive a
[12]
little deeper than just fake gurus
[14]
trying to sell you their get rich easy
[15]
scheme the theme of this video relies on
[17]
this definition of fraud
[18]
a person or thing intended to deceive
[21]
others typically by unjustifiably
[23]
claiming or being credited with
[24]
accomplishments or qualities
[26]
deception for personal gain is the
[27]
reason why instagram is full of frauds
[32]
can you believe that this is the same
[34]
person this lady is showing us how two
[36]
completely different poses can show
[37]
two completely different results and
[40]
this is a side by side of an edited
[42]
photo versus one that is not edited
[45]
and here's my favorite natural
[47]
bodybuilder
[48]
the term influencer gets thrown around a
[50]
lot as if it's an outcast profession
[52]
but social media influencers have real
[54]
influence on the people consuming their
[56]
content
[56]
i think boomers still like poking fun at
[58]
someone who is an influencer as a career
[61]
but that's a patronizing way of
[62]
downplaying someone's effect on the
[64]
purchasing of consumer goods
[65]
advertisers are willing to pay good
[67]
money to have their product or service
[68]
put in front of a large audience being
[70]
promoted by someone the audience trusts
[72]
influencer marketing expected to grow to
[74]
be worth 13.8 billion dollars this year
[76]
that's an 812 percent increase since
[78]
2016.
[79]
that tells you that brands find
[81]
influencer marketing to be very
[83]
important to their advertising campaigns
[84]
i showed those pictures just a minute
[86]
ago because influencers are incentivized
[88]
to get your attention in any way
[90]
possible
[90]
unfortunately the pendulum has swung way
[93]
too far and influencers are going to
[94]
extremes
[95]
to alter their appearance to receive
[97]
views for the content
[101]
in the new yorker article titled the age
[103]
of instagram face
[104]
according to the american society of
[106]
plastic surgeons americans received more
[108]
than seven million neurotoxin injections
[110]
in 2018
[111]
and more than two and a half million
[113]
filler injections that year americans
[115]
spent 16.5
[117]
billion dollars on cosmetic surgery 92
[119]
percent of these procedures were
[121]
performed on women this article was
[122]
really interesting as the author visited
[124]
numerous plastic surgeons
[126]
who discussed the emergence of an
[128]
instagram face
[129]
that had similar procedures as
[130]
celebrities who had large social media
[133]
followings thanks to injectables
[134]
cosmetic procedures are no longer just
[136]
for people who want huge changes
[138]
or who are deep in battle with the aging
[140]
process they're for millennials
[142]
or even in rarified cases members of gen
[144]
z this is the real problem in my opinion
[146]
the new role models of our youth are
[148]
instagram influencers who use deception
[151]
to promote a beauty standard that is
[153]
unattainable
[154]
think about this the highest paid and
[156]
most popular beauty influencers
[158]
can't even attain the image they present
[160]
to the public naturally
[162]
whether it be through photoshop facetune
[164]
or plastic surgery
[165]
they're using devices to trick you into
[168]
thinking their image is attainable
[169]
the result is obvious young women
[171]
feeling the need to get plastic surgery
[173]
on a deeper level the subconscious
[175]
messaging that is being perpetuated
[177]
is that young women's only value is in
[179]
how thick they are on social media i
[181]
think 95 percent of the most
[183]
followed people on instagram use
[184]
facetune easily the popular plastic
[186]
surgeon told me
[187]
and i would say that 95 of these people
[190]
have also had some sort of cosmetic
[191]
procedure
[192]
let me be very clear i see nothing wrong
[194]
with people getting cosmetic surgery
[196]
the problem i have is when influencers
[198]
aren't transparent about their surgeries
[200]
use of facetune in photoshop or
[202]
consumption of steroids
[203]
what makes it even worse is when these
[205]
same people lie about their procedures
[207]
and then
[208]
sell products based on a false image
[210]
this clip is a perfect example of how
[212]
different someone can look using
[214]
different angles and lighting
[215]
this is a nice looking girl but then she
[217]
immediately becomes a new
[218]
more attractive version of herself with
[220]
a slight change in the lighting and
[221]
angle
[224]
most photos from beauty or bathing suit
[226]
influencers are deceptive
[228]
which i consider fraudulent they're not
[230]
displaying how they realistically look
[232]
and then selling the image as being
[233]
attainable by buying their mascara or
[235]
eyelash extensions
[236]
even influencers who haven't had any
[238]
cosmetic work or use crazy filters
[241]
will rely on unnatural poses to appear
[243]
to have a physique
[244]
more alluring than the one they really
[246]
have when you consider the demographics
[248]
of the audience we shouldn't be
[249]
surprised to see depression and mental
[251]
health issues
[251]
arise at the rate society has seen over
[254]
the last 10 years
[255]
mental health problems are on the rise
[256]
among adolescents and young adults and
[258]
social media may be a driver behind the
[260]
increase
[261]
this ajmc article includes a research
[263]
study that detailed a rise of 70
[265]
or more in mental health issues in
[267]
adolescence over the past 10 years
[269]
which also coincides with social media
[274]
[Music]
[280]
use dove has released a moving video
[283]
called reverse selfie to address the
[285]
impact of editing apps on the
[286]
self-esteem of young people
[288]
dove's self-esteem research project
[290]
found that 85 of girls were using
[292]
retouching apps and
[293]
image filters by the age of 13. by the
[295]
age of 13
[296]
young women are already negatively
[298]
influenced to dislike their bodies
[299]
enough to use filters before posting
[301]
photos online
[305]
on the other side we have the male
[307]
fitness industry that is full of frauds
[309]
if you donated one dollar for every time
[311]
a fitness influencer lied about being
[312]
natural
[313]
you could solve sarah mclaughlin's
[315]
homeless dog problem be an angel for a
[317]
helpless animal
[318]
in the make money online niche you have
[320]
a plethora of fake gurus in the fitness
[322]
world and just as prevalent you have the
[324]
fake
[324]
natties these are dudes who claim to be
[326]
natural but have the physique of someone
[328]
who looks
[329]
about as drug-free as lamar odom walking
[331]
out of a brothel
[332]
if you thought young women were the only
[333]
ones who suffer from body image issues
[335]
think again men deal with it just as
[338]
much the most followed instagram
[339]
influencers in the fitness space have
[341]
physiques
[342]
that look like they were made in a lab
[343]
and guys don't follow fitness
[345]
influencers for their stock tips
[346]
they want the seps to hug their sleeve
[348]
as tight as a newly drafted player
[350]
hugs roger goodell even worse many of
[352]
the jim bros flexing on your social
[354]
media feed perpetuate fitness and
[356]
dietness to their loyal followers
[358]
the answer to getting a body that looks
[359]
like it was produced by cgi
[361]
is to just eat more protein link in the
[363]
description attention cells in the
[365]
social media world
[366]
and the outlier physiques received the
[367]
most fitness influencers are
[369]
incentivized to go to the extremes to
[371]
lie about their obvious steroid use
[373]
and maximize their physical appearance
[375]
unfortunately many of the youth
[376]
following these completely natural
[378]
wink-wink bodybuilders don't know that
[380]
real gains happen when you eat clean
[382]
trend hard
[383]
and avar give up
[387]
why do fake gurus promote their get rich
[389]
easy schemes on instagram
[390]
because they make insane amounts of
[392]
money sure coffeezilla and i may call
[394]
you out
[395]
to them who cares they're making
[397]
millions and we don't affect their
[398]
business enough to shut us down i'm not
[400]
going to go in detail with fake gurus as
[402]
it's a topic i cover extensively on the
[404]
channel
[405]
if you're interested i have plenty of
[406]
other videos calling these frauds out
[411]
an awesome subreddit to check out is
[412]
called instagram reality where posters
[414]
help point out
[415]
all of the photoshop fails and extensive
[418]
uses of facetune
[419]
and filters so you can see for yourself
[421]
just how prevalent this practice is
[423]
all of these exercises aren't meant to
[425]
shame people for using filters and
[426]
wanting to clear up some blemishes or
[428]
look a little skinnier
[429]
i just think it's really important to
[431]
become aware of all of the fraud on the
[433]
platform
[433]
so that you can best determine what is
[435]
good for you and what is not good for
[437]
you
[440]
without a doubt the most influential
[442]
family on the prevalence of body
[444]
dysmorphia and use of photoshop
[446]
is the kardashians and jenners another
[448]
client is kim kardashian west whom colby
[450]
smith described to me as patient zero
[451]
for instagram face
[453]
ultimately the goal is always to look
[454]
like kim he said kardashian west who has
[457]
inspired countless
[458]
cosmetically altered doppelgangers
[460]
insists that she hasn't had major
[462]
plastic surgery
[463]
according to her it's all just botox
[465]
fillers and makeup but she also hasn't
[467]
tried to hide how her appearance has
[468]
changed
[469]
it's impressive the media empire that
[470]
has been built from this family
[472]
but nothing about them is real they've
[474]
all had major plastic surgery to every
[476]
part of their body
[477]
and they use photoshop on every photo
[479]
these are the role models for the girls
[481]
in the dove ad who alter their photos
[483]
and don't like their body by the age of
[485]
13.
[486]
this is who they look up to
[491]
i just saw this post on instagram
[492]
reality which i thought was perfect for
[494]
this video so i'm gonna read it sorry
[495]
for reading but it's super interesting
[497]
this person was recently verified on
[499]
facebook and instagram and within two
[501]
weeks i started getting invitations to
[502]
instagram groups for verified profiles
[504]
only
[504]
ever wonder why you see these super rich
[506]
people with large followings
[508]
if you have money you can be famous
[510]
simple metrics of manipulating the
[512]
appearance of fame
[513]
so what happens is you get invited to
[514]
the blue check dm groups
[516]
if you have a blue check you get in free
[518]
if you don't you pay a hefty price
[520]
to get in so basically what happens is
[522]
you get in these groups
[523]
and they'll comment on all your photos
[524]
to boost engagement so it's fake
[526]
high quality followers and likes these
[528]
are actual accounts bought from normal
[530]
people and then run by bots
[532]
fake news pr bs news recycling websites
[535]
will be used to write articles about you
[536]
you pay a heavy fee for 10 articles and
[538]
you get a blue check through one of the
[539]
pr people
[540]
available who can submit you to insta
[542]
through paying off a connection
[543]
boom you're internet famous everyone who
[546]
sees you in the explore page thinks you
[547]
are anyway so they're motivated to
[548]
follow your badly photoshopped self what
[550]
next
[551]
basically this whole post is talking
[553]
about how
[554]
when you get verified you join these
[556]
groups and then you post and then all
[558]
the people
[558]
in the group will comment on your photo
[560]
so when you post the photo
[562]
you have all these blue check mark
[564]
people commenting on your photo
[566]
and it's like that you'll see this
[568]
commonly where they'll have like two or
[569]
three words the same comments every
[570]
single time
[571]
and these people will have you know on
[573]
their post within a few minutes they'll
[574]
all of a sudden have
[576]
you know all these blue check mark
[577]
people which boost the algorithm want to
[579]
look like you rub elbows with
[580]
recognizable names
[581]
b-list stars are available to promo you
[582]
and act like act like they know you
[584]
for the same price as their appearance
[586]
fee now you look extra famous
[588]
the list is endless i'm very thankful
[590]
for this person for uh
[591]
posting this is it's a deep dive into
[593]
what it looks like
[594]
for actual fraud on instagram and if you
[596]
think about it these influencers are
[598]
getting paid by brands
[599]
based on their engagement numbers this
[602]
is fraud
[602]
when you go to a brand and say hey i get
[605]
500 comments and
[606]
10 000 likes on my picture well if it's
[609]
all bought or if it's all fake
[611]
that is fraud
[615]
i really do think the fraudulent
[616]
practice practices of fake gurus and
[618]
influencers have a profound
[619]
impact on people's mental health and how
[621]
they perceive themselves none of us
[623]
are immune to comparison syndrome i'm
[625]
listening to an audiobook now called
[627]
predictably irrational which covers how
[629]
we all need context for figuring out the
[631]
value of a product or service
[633]
i think the same thing happens with
[634]
attraction to an extent that could be
[635]
attraction to a woman
[637]
attraction to a new business idea or
[638]
attraction to a different lifestyle than
[640]
the one you currently have
[641]
i think instagram is all of these
[643]
potential issues on steroids
[645]
any insecurity you have will be
[646]
maximized at the 100th degree by
[648]
scrolling on that app
[649]
my instagram explorer feed is a bunch of
[651]
funny sports clips and hot filipinos and
[653]
bathing suits
[654]
i'm a consumer too it's painfully
[656]
addicting i must admit
[658]
but it is wild to think about our
[659]
country's youth and their consumption of
[662]
these apps that are just not meant to be
[663]
used by teens
[664]
i think we should all be aware of who we
[666]
follow on social media as it really does
[668]
have a drastic impact on our self-esteem
[670]
and how we view ourselves
[671]
thanks for watching
