Robinhood Crypto Wallets Are Here! 馃敟 - YouTube
Channel: unknown
[0]
I've finally gained access to the new
Robinhood crypto wallets feature,
[3]
and today I'm going to give you an inside
look at the crypto wallet interface.
[6]
I'll walk you through activating your
Robinhood crypto wallet,
[9]
show you how it works,
and we'll also discuss when you can expect
[12]
to have a crypto wallet
in your Robinhood app.
[14]
Now, this video is not not sponsored,
[15]
but I do have referral links below if
you'd like to get special sign up bonuses
[18]
when joining Robinhood or any other
investing app through my website.
[21]
InvestingApps.com. I also have timestamps
[24]
below if you'd like to jump ahead or
jump back to any part of today's video.
[27]
With that being said, let's get started.
[29]
So one of the advantages to buying
and selling crypto on Robinhood has
[32]
always been the fact that you
can do so commission-free.
[35]
But one of the downsides, however,
was that whenever you bought crypto off
[38]
of Robinhood, you couldn't transfer it
to another crypto wallet externally.
[42]
So if you're like me,
[43]
you've probably been waiting
in anticipation of finally being able
[46]
to create a crypto wallet on the Robinhood
app that allows you to do both.
[49]
And while the new wallets are currently
[51]
in beta, they now give us users
the ability to send and receive crypto
[55]
from our Robinhood app
to external crypto wallets.
[58]
This means that no longer does the crypto
that you bought on Robinhood have to be
[61]
tied exclusively
to the Robinhood platform.
[63]
You can now send your coins to a mobile
wallet, to a hardware wallet such as
[67]
the Trezor wallet, or even
to another crypto exchange.
[70]
Now towards the end of this video,
[71]
we're going to discuss one major negative
implication of doing this that you need
[75]
to be aware of, so be sure
to stay tuned for that.
[78]
So let's first dive into the Robinhood app
[80]
so you can know what to expect when
first setting up your crypto wallet.
[83]
The first thing you need to do, guys,
[84]
before anything else is you need
to activate your crypto wallet.
[87]
And to do this, you need to verify
your identity within the app.
[90]
And you also need to set up two factor
[92]
authentication if you don't
already have that set up.
[94]
Now, if you're wondering why you have
[96]
to verify your identity on Robinhood's
website, they do state the following:
[100]
They say that "Crypto's decentralized
[101]
nature means that there is a greater need
for security to ensure that you and only
[105]
you can transfer coins into and out
of your Robinhood crypto account."
[109]
So in case you're wondering,
[110]
that's why. After completing these
verification steps,
[113]
Robinhood says that it may take up
to five business days for them to review
[116]
your information and then enable crypto
wallets on your Robinhood account.
[119]
So let's now hop inside the Robinhood app
[121]
so I can show you exactly how
to activate your crypto wallet.
[124]
So here's the email I received
[125]
from Robinhood. Congrats
you're off the wallet's waitlist.
[127]
So it says click here to get started.
[129]
So when you do get off that waitlist
yourself for the crypto Wallet,
[132]
you should receive an email
from Robinhood directly.
[134]
You simply want to click
on Get Started here.
[136]
After that, it will walk you through the
steps of activating your Crypto Wallet.
[139]
So it says let's keep your crypto safe.
[141]
To activate your wallet,
[142]
you want to follow these steps,
verify your identity,
[144]
set up two factor authentication,
and then activate your crypto wallet.
[147]
Now, if you already have verified your
[149]
identity, if you already have set up two
factor authentication on your Robinhood
[153]
account in the past,
you don't have to do this.
[154]
As you can see, I already
have those check marks.
[156]
You simply have to activate
your Crypto Wallet.
[158]
You only have to do those other two
steps if you haven't already done.
[162]
So let's simply click here
on activate crypto wallet.
[165]
Or you can simply click
on Activate Crypto Wallet right here.
[168]
So let's click on Activate Crypto Wallet.
All set.
[171]
Transfercrypto now.
So that is awesome.
[173]
Simply click on done from here
and Crypto Wallets are now activated.
[178]
Awesome.
So let's see how this works.
[180]
So here's the email I just got
[181]
from Robinhood right after
Activating My Wallet inside the app.
[184]
It says you can now send and receive
[186]
Crypto if they click down
here on Transfer Crypto.
[189]
Let's see where that takes
us inside the Robinhood app.
[191]
Let's see how this interface looks.
[192]
This is the first time I'm seeing this
with you guys here right now in real time.
[196]
All right, so these are
the Robinhood cryptocom wallets.
[199]
Explore all Cryptocurrencies.
[200]
I believe they are planning to increase
that amount of coins going forward,
[204]
but it looks like starting off,
you have Bitcoin, Litecoin, Bitcoin Silver,
[208]
Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin,
Ethereum Classic, and Ethereum.
[213]
You can also filter by the Ethereum
family, the Bitcoin family, or the Altcoins.
[218]
So let's say, for example,
I wanted to buy some Bitcoin.
[221]
You would simply click here
on Bitcoin right here.
[223]
Oh, you can, look at this.
Send and receive.
[225]
These are new buttons right here, guys,
[227]
that were not there before
in the Robinhood Crypto section.
[230]
It was always just buy and sell.
[232]
These are new buttons here.
[233]
Send and receive.
[234]
Unbelievable.
[236]
So let's do a quick test here.
[237]
Let's actually send some Bitcoin
[239]
from Robinhood to Coinbase and see
how fast this actually works.
[242]
So back here on the Robinhood homepage,
I'm going to scroll down and I'm going
[246]
to go down to my Bitcoin Wallet,
which only has a little bit in it.
[248]
Okay.
So let's say I want to send .0005 Bitcoin.
[255]
Let's click continue right here.
[256]
So I'm going to get
my Coinbase Wallet address.
[258]
Hang on one second, guys.
All right, guys.
[260]
So I quickly jumped on over to my Coinbase
account so we can get a Wallet address
[264]
to send the Bitcoin from Robinhood
to Coinbase for this test.
[267]
So we're going to go click on over where
it says Assets here on the bottom.
[270]
We're then going to click on Bitcoin.
[272]
We're then going to scroll down, click
on Bitcoin again the Bitcoin Wallet.
[276]
And I'm going to click
this little QR code here.
[279]
And again, Robinhood is bringing
[281]
the QR codes in the future,
but not yet in the beta.
[283]
Right now, I have to copy this manually.
[285]
I'm going to open back up my Robinhood.
[288]
Here we are back now in the Robinhood app,
I'm now going to paste that QR code.
[292]
That address I just got from Coinbase.
[294]
Always, guys, make sure you're
sending Bitcoin to Bitcoin.
[296]
Make sure you're sending the same
crypto to the same crypto.
[299]
That is very important.
So we're going to click review here. Amount
[302]
to send .0005 Bitcoin
to the Wallet address of Coinbase.
[306]
Let's click Submit.
[307]
All right, so I have to enter
a two factor authentication code.
[309]
Remember, guys, you do have
to have two factor set up.
[312]
So let me enter that real quick.
All right.
[313]
So I've now entered my two
factor authentication code.
[315]
It says BTC, transfer
pending will let you know.
[318]
Let's see, right now it's 5:18 pm
and I will let you guys know.
[322]
Click done here.
[323]
I will let you know how long it took
to arrive in my Coinbase account.
[326]
Hey, guys, this is Erik from the future
here about an hour in the future.
[329]
It took about an hour for the crypto
[330]
to transfer from Robinhood
to my Coinbase Wallet.
[333]
But it is done.
[334]
It has transferred let me give you guys
some quick look here at that transfer.
[338]
So again, you want to scroll down
to your crypto wallet again.
[341]
In this case of this test,
I transferred some Bitcoin.
[344]
So I'm going to scroll down the
transaction history of my Bitcoin here.
[348]
My quantity of Bitcoin has
decreased as you can see.
[351]
And also if we scroll down
[353]
to the transaction history, guys,
the very bottom history, you'll see
[357]
BTC sent. Today's date, .0005 Bitcoin,
it has all the breakdown there.
[363]
In this example, I transferred
this to my Coinbase Wallet.
[365]
So now let's hop on over to Coinbase
and I'll show you guys that transfer.
[368]
So here we are now back in my Coinbase
app to see if the transfer was received.
[372]
To do that, we're going to simply click
on where it says Assets on the bottom icon
[375]
and then click on our Bitcoin Wallet
and then scroll down beneath
[378]
that and again, click on our
BTC Wallet or Bitcoin Wallet.
[381]
If you scroll down here,
you'll see pending.
[383]
This is the transfer I
sent from Robinhood.
[386]
.0005 Bitcoin or $18.75. Again,
it was received at 6:01 pm on Coinbase.
[392]
I sent it out.
I kept track of time.
[393]
I sent it at 05:18 p.m. On Robinhood.
[396]
So it took about 40 minutes
roughly to send over.
[398]
And now it's just pending, waiting
for enough confirmation from the network.
[401]
But the transfer is essentially done.
How cool is that?
[404]
Guys?
That was the first time I've ever
[405]
transferred Bitcoin out from Robinhood
to another crypto wallet such as
[409]
Coinbase and the test
worked that is awesome.
[411]
So what's on the roadmap
for Robinhood crypto wallets?
[414]
Because while it is currently in beta,
[416]
they do have several items
on the roadmap to come on the horizon.
[419]
Firstly, they said they do plan to enhance
the send and receive flows by adding
[423]
things such as QR code scanning
ability that's going to be helpful.
[426]
They also plan to revamp the transaction
history interface, and they've also said
[430]
they're even planning on to add
Block Explorer support to provide users
[434]
with greater transparency
into their on chain transactions.
[438]
Another item like I mentioned earlier
[439]
on their roadmap is adding the ability
for users to calculate the dollar amount
[443]
of crypto they want to send or
receive in terms of US dollar amount.
[446]
So this will definitely be beneficial
because the app will then be able to make
[449]
those crypto dollar conversions
for you automatically.
[452]
Right now in beta, you have to do
those conversions yourself.
[454]
So let's take a second now to quickly
cover transfer limits and fees.
[457]
Now, when it comes to transfer limits
[459]
and fees, there are some things you need
to be aware of because firstly,
[462]
in terms of transfer limits,
you can send up to $3,000 worth of crypto
[467]
or make up to ten transfers
total in a 24 hours period.
[471]
Also, crypto bought on Robinhood using
[473]
Robinhood instant cannot be withdrawn
until those transactions settle,
[477]
which as you know, can take
approximately up to five business days.
[481]
Now, in terms of transfer fees,
[483]
the good news is that Robinhood doesn't
charge any extra fees to send or receive
[486]
crypto from your Robinhood
to an external crypto wallet.
[489]
However, every on chain transaction, guys,
[492]
does involve a network fee,
also known as the minor fee.
[495]
Now, these fees are determined by the coin
[497]
and by the number of transactions
currently happening on the network.
[500]
This, of course, is standard across
all crypto platforms and exchanges.
[504]
And before you complete any transaction
[506]
on Robinhood, you'll always see the
network fee displayed before submitting.
[509]
Again, guys, this fee is
not charged by Robinhood.
[512]
It's collected by the cryptocurrencies
network to facilitate that transaction.
[516]
But without a doubt,
[517]
gaining the ability to now send
and receive crypto from Robinhood
[520]
to an external crypto wallet is
a great step for Robinhood users.
[524]
Whether you want to send it to a hardware
[525]
wallet or to another crypto exchange,
this gives you infinitely more control
[529]
over your crypto that you
didn't have before.
[531]
But as I mentioned earlier,
there is one major implication of sending
[535]
crypto off a platform
that you need to be aware of.
[537]
When you buy and sell crypto exclusively
[539]
on a single platform,
such as on Robinhood,
[542]
all of your transactions are kept
track of directly on that exchange.
[545]
And come tax season,
[547]
this makes reporting your crypto
transactions significantly easier.
[551]
You see, a single platform such as
[553]
Robinhood will provide you
with your form 1099 tax document.
[556]
It will include a record of all your
[558]
crypto transactions and you're
essentially good to go.
[561]
But the moment you start sending crypto
from Robinhood off platform to another
[565]
crypto wallet, this does make reporting
your crypto taxes a bit more complicated.
[571]
For instance,
[571]
if you buy crypto on Robinhood then send
it out to another exchange and you sell it
[575]
on that other exchange, Robinhood
won't be able to track that sale.
[579]
However, the other exchange will
track that sale transaction.
[582]
So come tax season,
[584]
you may have some conflicting tax
forms from different crypto exchanges.
[588]
In this case, you may need to end up using
[590]
a third party crypto tax software
that will help you track all your crypto
[593]
transactions across
multiple crypto exchanges.
[596]
So when it comes to the Robinhood crypto
wallet, when can you expect to gain access
[599]
to the new crypto wallet
feature on your Robinhood app?
[602]
Well, as you may know,
there is currently a waitlist and they've
[605]
started rolling out access to the first
1000 users for beta testing back
[609]
in January and I just gained
access here in February.
[612]
So Robinhood has said that they do expect
[614]
to expand the beta program
to reach 10,000 users by March.
[618]
After that, it is then expected to the
feature will roll out to all users.
[622]
So if you're currently on the waitlist,
[624]
they have said that the quickest way
to move up that list is to invite a Fred
[628]
to join the app and if you've already been
on the waitlist for a while like I have
[631]
been guys, just hang in there a little
longer and I hope that you will gain
[635]
access to the crypto
wallets feature as well.
[637]
Now if you're new to Robinhood and would
[638]
like to open up a Robinhood account or any
other investing app,
[641]
you can get special sign up bonuses when
joining through any of my referral links
