[9]
we often talk about how impressive
[11]
tesla's vertical integration is and the
[13]
advantages these offer not just the fact
[15]
that tessa are able to reduce costs as
[18]
there's fewer other companies involved
[20]
taking a cut from each and every process
[22]
but also the fact that the car is
[24]
designed with a holistic approach
[26]
extending back to first principles
[28]
design and engineering as a result this
[30]
allows tesla to go above and beyond and
[33]
end up creating unique functionalities
[35]
such as the octa valve which not only
[37]
cuts down on costs due to it being built
[39]
in-house but also ends up reducing
[41]
actual parts that are necessary to
[43]
achieve the same objective
[45]
every part of the car is talking to each
[47]
other there is no compartmentalization
[49]
everything is being designed to work in
[51]
unison rather than ordering parts from
[53]
third-party suppliers and just trying to
[55]
make them all work together a lot of
[57]
tesla's parts are simply designed to
[59]
work with other tesla parts as most
[61]
efficient as possible of course this
[63]
will only continue to improve and such
[65]
improvements are encouraged at tesla
[67]
compared to the legacy autos as i like
[69]
to point out tesla make 27 production
[72]
changes a week per model whereas legacy
[74]
autos make about three a year i don't
[77]
think that is nearly discussed enough
[79]
and it's one of the reasons why tesla is
[80]
getting so much further ahead in
[82]
manufacturing than every other auto
[84]
company and that is another reason why
[86]
tesla's vertical integration is just
[88]
simply that amazing not only our tests
[90]
are saving money on the parts but they
[92]
work more efficient and some are
[94]
designed to do more jobs than one for
[96]
example we see the new structural
[98]
battery packs again removing more
[100]
unnecessary parts and of course designed
[102]
to connect to the front and rear die
[104]
cast pieces and as we love to say the
[106]
best part is no part the best process is
[109]
no process so tesla's vertical
[111]
integration at additional efficiencies
[113]
cuts costs and weight and that is
[115]
generally what people think of when we
[117]
mention vertical integration we think of
[119]
the manufacturing process but tests are
[121]
not that small-minded they're looking at
[123]
an even bigger picture tesla's vehicle's
[125]
side of the business don't view
[126]
themselves as a company that makes and
[128]
sells vehicles that's actually not their
[130]
industry tesla looks at it as an
[131]
industry that transports people or
[133]
possibly things from a to b that is the
[136]
business the entire service of
[139]
transportation first principles thinking
[141]
what is a vehicle a mode of transport
[144]
that takes you places so tesla therefore
[146]
want to control the whole experience of
[148]
taking people or things from one place
[151]
to another i say control but i mean
[153]
improve the experience and with vertical
[155]
integration we also hit economies of
[157]
scale still in this day and age we do
[160]
not have teleportation therefore we
[162]
still resort to a vehicle to transport
[164]
us tessa's business model therefore
[166]
revolves around all associated elements
[168]
and costs of traveling in a vehicle
[170]
we've already covered the cost of the
[172]
manufacturing and how tesla are using
[174]
vertical integration to create great
[176]
efficiencies and reduce costs and
[178]
eventually they will start with the raw
[179]
materials from the ground to the
[181]
finished product as close as possible
[183]
but what else well a tesla doesn't
[185]
require any gasoline they run on
[187]
electricity and a lot of people are
[189]
using tesla solar and battery to power
[191]
their cars again tesla products tesla is
[194]
creating the energy to power your
[196]
vehicle with the aid of the sun this is
[198]
another element of vertical integration
[200]
okay sure not every tesla owner has a
[202]
solar and power wall but that will
[204]
obviously become more popular and it's
[206]
not mandatory to run your tester with
[207]
solar tests we're just offering all
[209]
these extra services and products
[210]
associated with getting yourself from
[212]
one place to another tesla do of course
[214]
offer a full charging network too for
[216]
when or if you're not able to charge
[218]
from the convenience of your home or
[219]
place of work this would not only be
[221]
like if ford owned their own gas
[222]
stations but if ford owned an oil
[225]
company too that supplied the gas to the
[227]
gas station
[228]
oh and if ford also earned the oil mines
[230]
that supplied the oil company i don't
[232]
believe even henry ford's vision went as
[234]
far as owning the oil mines although i
[236]
believe ford did have some of their own
[237]
gas stations henry ford was also a
[240]
massive visionary when it came to
[241]
vertical integration
[243]
and as you probably anticipated what i'm
[244]
going to say next tesla insurance right
[248]
another cost of transportation of course
[250]
tesla don't make cars they make
[251]
computers on wheels these computers
[253]
collect an unfathomable amount of data
[255]
they can also tell whenever any tester
[257]
involved in an accident okay so they
[259]
have a collection of cars that have been
[261]
involved in collisions and likely able
[263]
to determine whether the driver was at
[265]
fault therefore this collection becomes
[267]
drivers that have created a collision
[269]
they can see if your driving habits
[271]
resemble any of these and as a result
[273]
tesla can offer reduced premiums for
[275]
safer drivers and control more of the
[277]
driving experience tesla insurance is
[279]
simply more vertical integration now
[281]
this is really a subject in its own but
[283]
what other major and i do mean major
[286]
cost or element is there to driving
[288]
something huge that no other auto
[290]
manufacturer could ever comprehend the
[293]
roads tesla can even control the roads
[295]
well perhaps not tessa itself but elon
[297]
musk that's right the boring company in
[300]
fact i hope tessa do end up buying
[302]
boring as i truly believe that company
[304]
could be as big as tesla it is highly
[305]
underrated and it doesn't seem to be
[307]
moving as fast as i would have hoped but
[309]
hopefully they will be able to make
[310]
these tunnels at the targeted speed
[312]
they're aiming for but these tunnels are
[314]
actually going to be designed around
[315]
tesla fsd too i mean even today if we
[317]
had invented fsd before roads we could
[320]
have designed roads around fsd and it
[322]
would have been a lot easier than what
[324]
is required today but roads were
[325]
invented first however boring tunnels
[327]
will come post fsd i think the main
[330]
advantage being that teslas will be able
[331]
to drive at a much faster rate than on a
[333]
typical road and of course a negligible
[336]
chance of any accidents anyway like i
[338]
said tesla and elon are vertically
[340]
integrating every level of
[342]
transportation what else have they done
[344]
well fsd that is a further vertical
[346]
integration what has that provided a
[349]
chauffeur that's right the actual driver
[352]
as well tester controls that element too
[354]
this is actually the largest cost saving
[356]
there is from any single thing that
[357]
tesla offers removing a driver or adding
[360]
the value of a chauffeur
[362]
in fact better than a chauffeur as you
[364]
have the car to yourself of course
[366]
accompanied with all associated in-car
[368]
entertainment now that entertainment
[369]
system will have an app store too which
[371]
will be owned and controlled by tesla
[373]
one more level of vertical integration
[375]
again along with tesla's navigation
[377]
tests we're thinking of everything every
[379]
step every dollar that is spent on
[380]
transportation tests that want to own
[382]
and control it all and then there are
[384]
other parts of the cost of owning a
[385]
vehicle the actual payment or financing
[388]
yes finance is a very profitable
[389]
industry in fact the finance industry
[391]
accounts for 30 to 40 of global profits
[394]
if you can believe that but if tesla
[396]
controlled the financing more they could
[398]
make it easier for customers to purchase
[399]
a tesla which in turn would open up the
[402]
market further i will explain this in
[404]
another video from there what else is
[406]
left aside from owning all the apps in
[408]
the app store which i don't think would
[410]
be smart we want youtube netflix and
[412]
spotify the other only major part i can
[414]
think of as the tires could tesla start
[416]
making their own tires could test the
[418]
revolutionized tires and literally
[420]
reinvent the wheel imagine if we no
[422]
longer had to replace tires anymore
[424]
tyres on a tesla aren't the cheapest the
[426]
wheels are big and they use low profile
[428]
tyres tesla could possibly reduce costs
[430]
there further again i mean sure tess can
[432]
come up with other services to offer
[434]
software too like they recently
[435]
introduced a sentry mode live view
[437]
feature for ten dollars a month but this
[439]
is just adding more features and
[440]
services rather than removing the cost
[442]
of previous i suppose tesla could buy
[444]
each and own the company that makes some
[446]
of the machines that comprise of the
[448]
machine that makes the machine tessa is
[450]
pretty much a monopsony for idris
[451]
gigapresses anyway although we are
[453]
starting to hear some of the legacy
[455]
autos interested in giga presses too
[456]
herbert d saying he wants to make the
[458]
vehicle from one single cast well i
[460]
think volkswagen should learn to walk
[461]
before they run first perhaps single
[463]
piece casts are not volkswagen's biggest
[465]
issue right now and of course eventually
[468]
tesla's robots could replace a lot of
[470]
the employees robots that tesla also
[472]
make themselves i mean really there's
[474]
never been anything in the world close
[476]
to what this company can accomplish
[478]
anyway off the top of my head i think
[479]
that might be as far as tessa's level of
[481]
vertical integration goes but usually
[483]
there is something that some of you can
[484]
think of that i missed so let me know
[486]
what other levels of vertical
[487]
integration tester could take aside from
[490]
general manufacturing thanks for
