Are you looking for the best apps to save money on groceries?
[2]
Well, look no further, because today I'm going to share with you the seven best apps to save
[8]
money on groceries and give you some money back in your pocket.
[11]
So if that interests you, let's get learning.
[21]
All right, welcome back to my channel.
[36]
If you are new here, my name is Lauren from LaurenGreutman.com.
[39]
I am a debt free life coach as well as the author of the book, The Recovering Spender.
[45]
Over the past decade of teaching people how to save money, get out of debt and learn how
[50]
to scrimp on their budgets, I've learned that the number one place where people are actually
[54]
overspending is on their food bill.
[58]
Huge, massive, thousands of dollars a month.
[60]
I'm going to teach you how to reduce this by using these money saving apps.
[65]
Really simple, really easy, so you want to make sure that you stick around to see all
[70]
the ones that I'm talking about today.
[71]
Now, each app that I'm going to be talking about today is a little bit unique, a little
[75]
bit different.
[76]
You can actually use multiple apps on the same grocery shopping trip.
[81]
We're going to learn how to stack these savings today, so that you don't just use one app
[85]
to save, you're using all seven on the same receipt and being able to see huge savings.
[90]
All right, let's dive in.
[91]
The number one app that we're going to talk about today is the Fetch Rewards app.
[95]
The Fetch app actually is an app that lets you earn rewards for uploading pictures of
[101]
your receipt and you trade these in for free gift cards.
[103]
This actually is my favorite app right now that I'm using, and I'm earning probably the
[107]
most amount of money on.
[108]
So you simply take a picture of your receipt, and you earn bonus points, 25 points, just
[114]
for adding the receipts in.
[116]
But then you also earn extra points for items that have extra specials going on.
[122]
For example, let's say that a certain kind of butter has a $1, or whatever amount of
[130]
points that looks like, when you buy that and scan your receipt with the Fetch app,
[134]
it'll upload those points directly into your Fetch app.
[138]
It's super duper easy.
[139]
All you just do is take your receipt... and I usually do this right after I get in the
[142]
car from the grocery store, and I take a simple picture of the receipt.
[147]
I've been able to earn Dunkin' Donuts gift cards, Sephora gift cards, Amazon gift cards,
[152]
and the points really stack up pretty easily.
[155]
What I really like about the Fetch Rewards app is that it's not like Ibotta, which we're
[158]
going to talk about next, where you have to actually pre-shop and see what those deals
[163]
are before you buy them.
[165]
This can give you rewards on any receipt, at the dollar store, the gas station, you
[171]
can upload any kind of receipt.
[174]
It doesn't have to be from a specific store like Aldi, or Walmart or Target, and that
[179]
makes saving really, really easy.
[181]
You want to sign up, I actually have a special coupon code where you can get a few thousand
[185]
free points.
[186]
If you use the coupon code UG MAP, then you can get a couple thousand points to get started
[192]
just for free.
[193]
I also left a link to sign up for it in the comments with the coupon code, just in case
[197]
you missed it, so that you can get those free points.
[199]
The second app that we're going to be talking about is actually called SavingStar, and SavingStar
[204]
is pretty similar to a lot of these other ones.
[207]
There's nothing to clip or print to earn these digital coupons.
[210]
You simply link your grocery store cards to this app, and then when you check out using
[217]
some of the rewards from this store, then you have to upload your receipt and they give
[222]
you points or cash back.
[224]
I really like SavingStar, you can use this on top of Fetch and on top of all the other
[228]
ones that you have.
[229]
They also have some really great healthy offers, 50 cents off of grapes or something like that.
[235]
They tend to gear more towards that.
[238]
That's really helpful.
[239]
When you really like fresh produce, that SavingStar can really help you to save money on those.
[243]
With SavingStar, you ask to get your earnings up to $20 before you can cash out.
[248]
They can give you gift cards, and you can also get a check or they can send you money
[253]
via PayPal, but you have to get up to that $20 reward bonus before they'll give you any
[258]
money back.
[259]
The third app we're going to talk about is Ibotta, and this is an app similar to the
[263]
other ones, but just a little bit different in the sense that you have to get them from
[267]
a certain store.
[268]
For example, they have offers from Target, and it's a Target only offer.
[273]
So you have to buy the item at Target.
[276]
When you upload your receipt, it has to be a Target receipt.
[279]
With Ibotta you get cash back, and you just need to keep your receipt handy, scan your
[284]
products.
[285]
Don't throw the product barcode out, you have to actually scan the barcode of the product
[291]
that you've purchase before you get your money back.
[294]
Keep that in mind when you're looking at Ibotta, that these are pre-approved offers from certain
[299]
stores and you have to upload the receipt and the barcode of the item.
[304]
But it really has a lot of really great offers, and again, you can stack these savings, you
[308]
can get, if let's say there's an offer at Target and both SavingStar and Ibotta have
[313]
this same offer, you can use the same receipt to scan into both apps and earn cash back
[319]
on both.
[320]
The fourth one we're going to talk about is called Checkout 51, and this is actually great
[324]
because it works at any store.
[325]
So, unlike Ibotta, Checkout 51 works at any store, Dollar Store, Aldi, Walmart, wherever
[330]
you want to save money, and it really works very, very well to give you those cash back
[335]
offers.
[336]
Again, Checkout 51 a lot of times we'll give you offers on produce and things like that.
[341]
Definitely go and check that out, and download at Checkout 51.
[345]
With Checkout 51 the one thing you need to know is, again, you have to get up to that
[349]
$20 price point before you can check out, but they'll give you PayPal or cash.
[352]
So just keep that in mind, that these are bonus offers that you're going to get back
[356]
over.
[357]
This is more of a longterm savings plan.
[360]
You can use coupons, and meal plan and all of that as well as using these, and these
[364]
are kind of like icing on the cake I think.
[366]
The fifth one that we're going to talk about is called the Flipp app and I love the Flipp
[370]
app.
[371]
What they do, is they have the digital circulars of the stores in your area right inside the
[376]
app.
[377]
You can flip through the circulars.
[379]
If you tap on something inside one of the digital circulars, it'll actually add it to
[384]
your shopping list so that you can see where it is in the circular, and it's really, really
[390]
simple, easy to use.
[391]
One of my favorite things that I like to use the Flipp app for, is it helps me compare
[395]
items across stores.
[397]
Let's say I'm looking for chicken for a recipe, and I need to know where I can find chicken
[402]
the cheapest.
[403]
I can simply go into the app, I can search for chicken and it's going to pull up all
[408]
of the stores around me that have chicken on sale, or that have deals on chicken so
[413]
that I can go to that store and I don't have to actually flip through all of the circulars.
[417]
They do all the work for me.
[420]
Another thing that I love about the Flipp app is the grocery shopping list.
[424]
When I make my grocery shopping list, I use my personal finance planner and then I transcribe
[428]
that list into the Flipp app, so that I can easily check off what I need inside the list
[433]
and it makes shopping super duper easy so I don't miss a thing.
[437]
Another cool thing about the Flipp app is they store all of your store loyalty cards
[441]
right within the app, so you don't have to have them on your key ring all the time.
[444]
I know my key ring has so many different keys and whatever on it.
[448]
ut you can actually store, you scan your cards right in there.
[451]
So I'll just do is pull out your phone and show them to the clerk and you're good to
[453]
go.
[454]
All right, the sixth app we're going to talk about today is called RedLaser.
[458]
What you do with RedLaser, is you scan the barcode of any item that you want.
[461]
What it does is it compares prices for not only your local stores but also online.
[467]
This is very helpful for me because I eat gluten free, and a lot of the items in the
[470]
stores are actually more expensive than I would buy on Amazon, or Vitacost or other
[476]
health food stores online.
[478]
So, if I'm buying something at a health food store here that's gluten free, I can scan
[483]
the product with a RedLaser, and it's going to tell me the price of that and compare the
[486]
prices across not only my local stores, but also online vendors, which makes it very easy
[492]
for me to make an educated decision while I'm in the store.
[494]
All right, and the last app that we're going to talk about today is Instacart.
[497]
Now, I know that this does not need an introduction, but this app works very well to actually save
[503]
people on groceries.
[505]
So, let me talk a little bit about this.
[507]
A lot of people think, "Oh, Instacart is more expensive."
[509]
But actually, what happens, if you have a problem with impulse buying or going over
[515]
budget, I highly recommend that you use Instacart for at least a month to three months to learn
[521]
your spending issues, or problems or weaknesses, because it's really going to help you to see
[526]
where you typically overspend.
[528]
Now, I'm a huge Aldi shopper, and Aldi has what we like to call the aisle of shame, if
[535]
you know what I mean.
[536]
This is the aisle that has all of the fun decorations, and activities, and workout gear,
[542]
and grilling stuff and cooking stuff.
[544]
This can be very troublesome for a lot of people.
[547]
They go to Aldi with 100 bucks, and end up coming home spending 200 because they found
[551]
a canopy that was on sale.
[553]
If you have a spending problem and you're trying to get that under control, I highly
[557]
recommend that you use Instacart to do your grocery shopping for you, because you can
[560]
super easily do that without overspending and stay within budget.
[565]
That app, even though it doesn't actually give you cash back, will help you save a lot
[571]
of money on your groceries.
[572]
Especially, if you're really an overspender, and you just can't seem to get it under control.
[578]
Okay, so there we have it, seven apps.
[580]
I've left links to all apps that I talked about in the description box below.
[584]
Make sure that you go, click on them.
[586]
Some of them are my affiliate links, disclaimer, so I earn a little bit of cash if you click
[590]
on them.
[591]
If you are trying to save money on groceries, which is why you're probably here watching
[595]
this video, let me help you.
[596]
I have a free 10 dinner meal plan for you, that you can click in the description box
[601]
below.
[602]
It's 10 Crock-Pot freezer meals.
[603]
You spend 80 bucks and you assemble them all in under one hour.
[608]
If you love to save money on groceries, you can save those receipts and input them right
[613]
into these apps that I talked about afterwards, so it's probably even cheaper than 80 bucks,
[617]
you know what I mean?
[618]
But it's a free meal plan, I want to give that to you as a thank you for watching this
[622]
video.
[623]
And yes, thank you for tuning in and I will see you next time.
[626]
Bye.
