The 3 BEST Credit Cards 2020 Malaysia (Entry Level) - YouTube

Channel: Millennial Finance

[0]
this could be a very controversial topic
[3]
unlike many other personal finance
[5]
advice you will hear out there
[7]
we actually love using credit cards and
[9]
we urge you to try it out yourself
[11]
hold on a second why is the millennium
[13]
finance
[14]
making me watch a video on the best
[16]
credit cards in malaysia
[17]
i know i know there are so many horror
[20]
stories out there
[21]
about young people being stuck in a
[24]
mountain of that
[25]
and the main culprits for this is
[26]
usually personal loans and credit cards
[29]
in fact the world bank recently released
[32]
a study
[32]
that shows that many malaysian
[34]
millennials are actually stuck
[36]
in a lot of debt just to be clear i know
[38]
that credit card debt can be the worst
[40]
thing that will
[41]
ever happen to you and starting off our
[43]
young careers like this
[44]
won't be a good thing however we need to
[47]
learn how to manage our budget
[48]
eventually don't we
[49]
whether we use a credit card or not the
[51]
ability to properly budget
[53]
and spend within your means is something
[55]
that you'll eventually have to learn
[57]
if you're absolutely certain that you
[59]
cannot control your spending with a
[60]
credit card
[61]
then i suggest you click off this video
[63]
right now personally
[65]
i use credit cards all the time the
[67]
first thing that it does for me
[68]
is it helps me build a credit score
[70]
right when i start working with a good
[72]
credit score
[73]
it makes it easier for me to get future
[75]
loans such as when i eventually want to
[76]
buy a car
[77]
or house also having a good credit score
[80]
will make banks offer me cheaper
[82]
interest rates compared to someone else
[83]
with no credit score or even a bad one
[86]
another good thing about credit cards is
[88]
the sweet benefits that come of it some
[90]
credit cards offer cash back while
[91]
others offer points
[93]
most of them also even give you a sweet
[95]
sign up gift
[96]
where sometimes you can even get some
[98]
apple airpods
[99]
if you've recently started your career
[101]
and are looking out for your first
[102]
credit card
[103]
then this will be the perfect video for
[105]
you in making this list
[106]
i filtered out credit cards that had an
[108]
income requirement of more than 4 000
[110]
ringgit
[110]
since i wanted something realistic for
[112]
millennials who are watching this video
[113]
i took out a lot of those credit cards
[115]
who claim
[116]
up to 10 cash back but they require you
[118]
to spend 3 000 ringgit a month to unlock
[120]
this
[121]
i hope that none of you are spending the
[122]
amount of money per month i prefer
[124]
going for credit cards with benefits to
[126]
have no strings attached and give you
[128]
the rewards
[129]
even if your spending is very low make
[131]
sure that you stay to the end of this
[132]
video
[133]
so that you know which credit card suits
[135]
your needs let's start off with the
[136]
first credit card
[137]
being the maybank two gold cards for
[140]
those of you who are interested
[142]
it requires a minimum income of 2 500
[145]
yet per month or
[146]
30 000 ringgit per year this actually
[148]
comes with two credit cards
[149]
the first one being an amex and the
[151]
second one being a choice between a visa
[153]
or mastercard the amex card gives you
[155]
five percent cashback on
[157]
all spending on weekends and this is the
[159]
primary card that i use
[160]
i know that a lot of places don't really
[162]
accept american express
[163]
but i feel that enough of them do to
[165]
justify having this card
[166]
a good trick that i use is to tie my
[168]
amex card to the faith pay app the good
[171]
thing about faith bay is that most
[172]
merchants accept it
[173]
even though they don't accept american
[175]
express cards using this
[177]
i'll be able to get my five percent cash
[179]
back on my american express card
[181]
whether the store accepted or not in
[182]
terms of usage i tend to use it for
[185]
patrol groceries dining or whenever i
[187]
feel like going shopping on the weekends
[189]
on weekdays i tend to stay away from
[191]
using this card because it doesn't
[193]
really give us much in returns the other
[194]
card that you can choose from between
[196]
visa or mastercard offers some pale tree
[199]
rewards in comparison to its amex
[201]
counterpart
[201]
the benefit is so minuscule that i store
[204]
it away in my cupboard and never ever
[206]
use it
[206]
in 2019 alone i racked up nearly 500
[210]
ringgit in cashback from my amax card
[212]
alone the next credit card that i
[213]
recommend
[214]
and even use myself is the camb cash
[217]
rebate platinum the good thing about
[218]
this credit card is that it has a very
[220]
low
[220]
entry point with a minimum income
[222]
eligibility of only 2 000 ringgit per
[225]
month based on my experience
[227]
cimb is also very lenient in terms of
[229]
who they accept
[230]
making this the perfect card for fresh
[232]
graduates with no credits history
[234]
this credit card gives you two percent
[235]
cash back on your
[237]
patrol groceries mobile bills and
[240]
utility bills such as your electricity
[242]
one way that i use this is by offering
[244]
to pay for my family's electricity bill
[246]
and getting two percent cash back when
[248]
none of them are getting it
[249]
then i split the bill and ask them to
[251]
pay me back if you spend more than three
[253]
thousand
[254]
ringgit a month which i hope you don't
[256]
you'll get a five percent cashback
[258]
instead of the two
[258]
on all other retail span you'll be
[261]
getting 0.2
[262]
cashback which is not great but it's
[264]
still something right
[265]
you can definitely get better rewards
[267]
from other credit cards but i feel like
[268]
the combo
[269]
of requiring a low income and the
[271]
benefits of cashback for patrol
[274]
groceries and utility bills make this
[277]
credit card
[277]
worth it the third one that we're
[279]
recommending isn't technically a credit
[281]
card
[282]
but the benefits are so great for
[284]
specific use cases that we didn't want
[286]
to leave it out
[287]
it's big pay technically it's a debit
[289]
card that allows you to store
[291]
some of your cash in something that is
[293]
resembling a new wallet the main draw
[295]
for me to this card which i'm sure is
[297]
the same for a lot of other people who
[298]
use it
[299]
are its great exchange rates i use this
[301]
card almost exclusively when i go travel
[304]
and i think that i've saved so much
[305]
money because of it you know the feeling
[308]
of preparing for a holiday overseas and
[310]
you don't really know how much money you
[311]
need to bring
[312]
in comes the benefit of big pay i
[314]
usually bring less money than i think i
[316]
need
[316]
and then have the rest of my cash in
[318]
malaysian ringgit in my big pay wallet
[320]
if i end up spending more than i
[321]
actually budgeted for
[322]
i don't have to go withdraw money from
[324]
an atm which i have to pay fees for
[326]
and then go convert it at a currency
[328]
exchange store which i again have to pay
[330]
fees for with big pay i can use it as a
[332]
debit card
[333]
as most places actually accept cards as
[335]
a form of payment
[336]
this way i don't have to over convert my
[338]
money
[339]
only to have to bring it back and
[341]
convert it again the great exchange
[343]
rates that are being quoted on big pay
[345]
make all this possible and the rates
[347]
that i see are usually
[348]
very comparable or even sometimes better
[351]
than what's being quoted on google
[352]
even though we have no idea when we can
[354]
start traveling overseas again
[356]
it's still a good card to have
[358]
especially if you make a lot of online
[360]
purchases in foreign currencies
[362]
a smaller benefit that you get from
[363]
using this card is that you get big
[365]
points for every time you spend your
[366]
money with big pay
[367]
the reason that i consider this benefit
[369]
small is that the
[371]
points that you get for every purchase
[372]
is not that great i think it's something
[374]
like one big point for every 10 ringgit
[376]
that you spend on big pay
[377]
still this all adds up and eventually
[380]
maybe you'll get a free holiday or a
[381]
cheaper one if you want to open your
[383]
bigpay account
[384]
i'll leave my referral down in the
[385]
description below so that we both get 10
[387]
ringgit when you sign up
[389]
the fourth and final credit card that
[391]
i'll be recommending in this video
[392]
is the public visa quantum public bank
[395]
quantum visa
[396]
okay public bank it's the public bank
[399]
quantum visa
[400]
the minimum income requirement for this
[402]
credit card is 3 000 ringgit a month
[404]
this might rule out some of you
[406]
but i should definitely be available to
[408]
most of you who have been working for at
[409]
least a few years
[410]
i don't use this credit card and only
[412]
stumbled upon it while doing research
[413]
for this video
[414]
the benefits are kind of great so i'm
[416]
actually considering signing up after
[417]
this
[418]
the card gives you five percent cashback
[420]
on all contactless payments kept at rm30
[422]
per month i don't know about you
[424]
but nearly every time i use my credit
[426]
card i seem to use the way feature
[428]
i only really put it in and type in my
[430]
pin when i really have to this makes it
[432]
super easy for you to be eligible for
[434]
the cashback
[435]
and the five percent rate is quite
[437]
generous one thing that i'm not sure of
[439]
if is whether online payments are
[441]
considered contactless i mean
[443]
technically it is right well if you have
[445]
this card and you know the answer to
[446]
this
[447]
leave your answer in the comments down
[448]
below on top of this five percent
[450]
cashback
[451]
every ringgit that you spend with this
[453]
credit card also entitles you to public
[455]
banks vip points
[456]
this means that this is one of the only
[458]
credit cards in the market that offers
[460]
both cashback
[461]
and credit card points we don't know the
[463]
value of this because i don't really
[464]
have a public bank account so if any of
[466]
you do
[467]
feel free to let us know to conclude
[469]
getting a credit card is a great way for
[471]
fresh grads to build their credit score
[473]
and get some benefits along the way
[474]
my only advice is to spend within your
[476]
means and pay off this debt
[478]
every single month on time the evil of
[480]
credit cards is that it lets you spend
[482]
beyond your means
[483]
so you really need to control yourself
[485]
if you're considering getting one when
[487]
you look at your statements
[488]
you'll notice that there's a minimum
[489]
payment and an outstanding amount
[491]
remember don't pay just the minimum
[493]
amount the minimum amount is what the
[495]
bank is telling you that you have to pay
[496]
at least
[497]
otherwise i'm gonna go out and look for
[499]
you however the difference between the
[501]
minimum amount and the outstanding
[502]
balance is how much you'll get charged
[504]
interest on and you don't want to get
[505]
charged interest on your credit card
[507]
because it goes up to around 18
[509]
per year which will really kill most of
[511]
your finances the different credit cards
[513]
really suit different needs so i suggest
[516]
you look at your budget and see what you
[517]
spend a lot of your money on and choose
[519]
a credit card
[520]
that's right for you if you're looking
[521]
to get one now i recommend going on
[523]
ringer plus or imani or any of these
[525]
other websites
[526]
and wait for very good sign up bonuses
[528]
so you can get something good when you
[530]
start i'm not gonna lie that when i
[531]
first started
[532]
i was really hoping that i would get a
[534]
drone from signing up from a citibank
[536]
credit card
[536]
however i didn't finish my application
[538]
on time so i didn't get drone and i was
[540]
super disappointed give us a big thumbs
[542]
