[2]
Here's how to use the Instagram app.
[6]
Use our clickable sections below
[8]
to keep track of what step you're on
[10]
during this tutorial.
[16]
At the bottom of the screen,
[17]
you'll see a bar with several features.
[21]
The home on the bottom left is your feed
[23]
that shows content posted by you and those you follow.
[27]
The magnifying glass is the explore page,
[30]
filled with posts Instagram thinks you'll like.
[33]
Click the clapperboard icon to get to Reels.
[38]
It allows you to create voice-over video,
[40]
record over music,
[41]
and offers various effects.
[44]
Next to it is the shop icon,
[46]
where you can buy and sell items.
[52]
The final icon is your profile,
[54]
where your content is stored.
[56]
Hit "Edit Profile" to customize your bio,
[59]
profile picture, contact information, and username.
[66]
To post, let's go back to the home screen.
[70]
On the top right, you'll see three icons.
[73]
To post something new, hit the plus icon.
[78]
Choose what kind of post you'd like to make.
[81]
You can select from your phone's library
[83]
or record something new in the app.
[85]
You can select one or more saved photos or videos.
[90]
If you selected more than one picture or video,
[92]
you can edit them simultaneously or individually
[95]
using Instagram's effects and photo-editing tools.
[99]
You can manually edit your post in the edit section.
[104]
When you're done editing,
[105]
add a caption to your post.
[109]
Using hashtags can increase your social engagement
[112]
and help find related content.
[117]
Tag whoever is featured in your post.
[119]
They'll be notified that they're included.
[123]
You can also add a location here.
[127]
If you've connected your Facebook,
[128]
Twitter, or Tumblr accounts,
[130]
you can automatically share your posts on those platforms.
[135]
If you select "Story,"
[136]
you'll be able to post a photo or video
[138]
that is up to 15 seconds.
[140]
It'll live for 24 hours, then disappear.
[143]
In story on the left side,
[145]
you'll see a vertical banner with six options.
[148]
Create lets you combine text, interactive stickers,
[151]
and drawings without having to share photos or videos.
[156]
Story lets you post a boomerang,
[158]
which takes a burst of photos
[160]
and stitches them together into a video
[162]
that plays forward and backward.
[165]
Layout gives you the option of posting
[166]
more than one photo in a grid.
[168]
In a newer update,
[169]
you can choose your preferred layout design.
[174]
Superzoom lets you record a slow zoom
[176]
with corresponding effects and sounds.
[178]
You can choose one of 10 effects
[180]
specific to the superzoom feature.
[183]
Hands-free allows you to record a story
[185]
without holding the record button.
[187]
You can tap to start and stop your video.
[191]
To see your story, click on your thumbnail.
[195]
You can also see the stories your friends posted.
[200]
This is Reels, another video tool.
[203]
On the left side of your screen,
[205]
you'll see five different editing tools.
[209]
Length lets you choose if you want to create
[211]
a 15- or 30-second reel.
[215]
To add an audio soundtrack, click the music note.
[219]
You can also change the speed.
[225]
Effects brings up your saved effects,
[226]
which you can apply to your video.
[230]
And, finally, timer lets you set up a countdown
[233]
of either three or 10 seconds before recording your clip.
[238]
You can also adjust the clip length,
[240]
so you don't have to stop it yourself.
[243]
Finally we have Instagram Live,
[245]
where you can livestream to your followers.
[247]
You can comment during the stream
[249]
and let others go live with you.
[252]
Next on the top-right bar is the heart icon,
[255]
which shows likes.
[257]
You'll be notified here when someone likes
[259]
or comments on one of your posts.
[262]
The final icon on the right
[263]
stores your direct messages, or DMs.
[272]
Note that you can adjust your privacy settings in settings
[276]
when you click the hamburger button.
[280]
You can choose who can see your content,
[282]
adjust your friend list and message settings.
[285]
That's how Instagram works and how you can use it.
