[0]
today on fin shoot we're going to learn
[2]
how to use the forward calculator on
[6]
Bloomberg to find forwards on Bloomberg
[8]
simply type FX go to the top left-hand
[13]
corner and type FX forward this should
[17]
bring up the menu for frd FX forward
[22]
calculator click on that this will now
[26]
bring up your main screen main screen is
[29]
divided up into four tabs for words
[33]
cross rates calculator power forward
[36]
calculator and multi-currency view if we
[48]
go back to the main forwards calculator
[50]
you'll see that this main screen is
[53]
broken up into spot and then the forward
[57]
prices across constant dates if we click
[61]
on legend we can see that each color has
[67]
a meaning amber being contributed gray
[71]
interpolated dark amber implied spot and
[76]
BGM you only ever see that on currencies
[79]
like the brl CNY or in DFS on the far
[86]
right you can see broken dates in here
[89]
you can type in whatever day you want
[92]
and it will calculate the broken dated
[94]
forward for you
[95]
you'll see in this instance a star
[97]
appears because it's saying that on that
[100]
date it's Eastern Monday in Australia
[103]
you may want to read check what date
[106]
you're taking you forward out to you'll
[108]
also see at the top that I can choose
[111]
via if I'm working out across if I turn
[115]
this off it will bring you back to Ozzy
[118]
us I may want to leg this trade or
[120]
indeed I may want Aussie yen and you'll
[126]
note that my points appear if I click
[129]
off via
[131]
then the points change according to how
[135]
I leg the trade this is quite handy when
[139]
you're looking to clear markets if
[141]
you're uncertain though of any of the
[146]
decimals click show true decimal this
[152]
shows the actual number of points you're
[154]
going to take I'll click that again
[158]
there you go you see it moves to the
[160]
actual decimal point if I go to cross
[163]
rates calculator what this allows me to
[165]
do is break down the two major currency
[171]
pairs to work out the cross path in this
[174]
case or the u.s. against dollar yen if I
[178]
cross out I receive here are my base
[181]
points for one week here are my base
[183]
points for one week and the calculator
[186]
will cross them out for me to see if I'm
[188]
getting a good price or not I can also
[191]
once again do this on the basis of
[193]
broken dates par forwards are another
[198]
useful tool I can create a forward strip
[202]
simply by entering create strip monthly
[206]
and I might want to do it five times hit
[209]
update and this will create a path
[211]
forward strip note that the points at
[214]
this point our only meds
[217]
I'm sure Bloomberg will create bid offer
[220]
at some point the last tab on the screen
[224]
is the multi currency view on the multi
[227]
currency view you can load up a set date
[231]
for any given number of currencies what
[234]
this allows you to do is build up a
[237]
pictures to where it's cheaper to fund
[238]
or if you're running a treasury book you
[242]
can load all of your currencies with a
[246]
series of dates and you can see how this
[249]
is done finally if I wanted to I could
[252]
trade from this screen simply by
[254]
clicking Trading mode I could enter my
[257]
amount
[259]
and all this would do would be to load
[262]
up my amount and then I can ask a
[265]
request for quote from my bank or from
[267]
my trading counterparty the last point
[271]
on the forward calculator is the forward
[274]
curve if I click on show me the chart
[278]
this will bring up a chart to show me
[281]
what the slope is turn off long tenors
[283]
and straight away I have a 5-year
[287]
forward curve I can show this from mid
[291]
bed offer
[292]
points or out rights and that ends the
[298]
first lesson in using frd or the forward
[302]
calculator in Bloomberg
