[9]
Hi everyone, its aunt Fernita
[12]
Today's story is called namaan and the dirty water
[20]
The memory verse is from john chapter 1 verse 16
[25]
It says: "From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another"
[34]
Today's message is God's grace is for everyone
[40]
can you do something for me? can you touch your elbows?
[46]
Now i'd like for you to rub you index fingers together
[51]
which could you feel more?
[55]
your elbow or your index fingers?
[59]
There are many more nerves on your fingers than on your elbow
[64]
God gave us special nerves to help us know when we touch something hot or cold
[71]
hard, soft or painful
[75]
People who have leprosy
[78]
lose the ability to feel those things
[81]
here's what happened to one man who had leprosy
[86]
Namaan was a commander of an army in Arab, that's Syria
[91]
He was famous for winning battles
[94]
and he was a close friend of the king
[97]
One day, this warrior got very sick
[102]
he skin began to dry up
[104]
it turned white and began to fall off
[108]
And he was losing his ability to feel things
[113]
Namaan had leprosy
[116]
a disease no doctor could cure
[120]
a young Israelite women who worked for Namaan's wife
[123]
she was a captive from one of Aram's raids in Israel
[128]
the girl now lived far away from home, among Israel's enemies
[134]
But she had not forgotten the great things God had done for Israel
[139]
"Why doesn't my master Namaan go to ask the prophet in Israel to heal him?"
[145]
"Elisha could ask God to cure the leprosy" she asked Namaan's wife
[151]
Namaan had seen every doctor in Aram , he tired every medicine
[156]
Nothing had worked, Elisha was his last hope
[161]
Namaan led several troops of arammian soldiers to Israel
[167]
wagons followed
[169]
Loaded with treasure to pay for a miracle cure
[172]
what a strange sight this must have been
[176]
But Elisha didn't give Namaan any medicine
[179]
He sent his servant to tell Namaan to go wash himself
[184]
Not just anywhere, but in the Jordan river which flowed nearby
[190]
Namaan was frustrated
[192]
Elisha hadn't even talked to him
[195]
He had expected that Elisha would ask the God of Israel to do something big
[202]
But all he had been told to do was to dip himself in a dirty river?
[207]
not once but 7 times?
[212]
he was ready to go home
[214]
If he was going to wash himself, he would do it at home
[218]
the rivers near his home ran fast and clear
[222]
The Jordan was a muddy stream
[225]
not much wider than a camel path
[227]
Fortunately one of Namaan's servants stopped him
[231]
"If Elisha had asked you to do something big,"
[234]
" would you have done it?"
[237]
"Well of course i would." Namaan thought
[240]
He had conquered an entire country
[243]
there was no big thing he couldn't do
[246]
except to heal himself
[248]
the servant continued "Then what is so hard about doing such a little thing."
[254]
Namaan thought about it
[257]
Then he made up his mind
[259]
He would do what God's prophet said
[262]
He went to the Jordan river
[264]
6 times he lowered himself into the water
[268]
nothing happened.
[270]
As he rose from the water the 7th time
[273]
Something had changed.
[275]
He pale, dry skin was gone
[279]
He was covered with a soft healthy skin of a young man
[284]
Not only was he changed outside
[287]
Namaan had also changed inside
[291]
"I know that the God of Israel is the only true God"
[297]
Only the love of God can make a captive servant girl be kind to her captors
[303]
Only the power of God could work miracles through the prophet Elisha
[308]
Only God's grace could heal a formed warrior of his sickness Only the power of God could work miracles through the prophet Elisha
[308]
Only God's grace could heal a formed warrior of his sickness
[313]
God wants to give his gifts of grace to everyone, including you
