all right you joined us some twenty
[1]
minutes ago or so after the speaker the
[5]
Senate rather Majority Leader had that
[7]
news conference or at least got brought
[9]
an update on things and they didn't look
[11]
too good did you learn anything else
[12]
that gives us a glimmer of hope things
[14]
will get done today in the last 20
[16]
minutes what we've heard from a few
[18]
other Republican leaders including Kevin
[20]
McCarthy in the house but so far Alex
[23]
the sense of dire urgency that Americans
[26]
are feeling across the country for
[28]
financial relief right now has not
[30]
seemed to break the log jam here on
[32]
Capitol Hill we're hearing from
[34]
Republicans that they feel that they're
[36]
very close to a deal Mitch McConnell the
[38]
Senate Majority Leader saying they still
[40]
plan to have a vote today in just a
[42]
couple of hours basically a procedural
[45]
vote that would set things in motion to
[47]
allow them to have a vote tomorrow on an
[49]
actual piece of legislation fingers
[51]
crossed that they actually have a deal
[54]
to vote on at that point but we also
[56]
heard from Nancy Pelosi the House
[57]
Democratic leader who rushed back in
[60]
from California to be able to work on
[62]
these negotiations and I want you to
[64]
hear a little bit about what these
[65]
leaders had to say at the Capitol just a
[67]
few minutes ago we're working toward
[70]
bringing this together I think it's safe
[73]
to say we're very close we have
[76]
integrated a number of ideas the
[79]
Democrats had over the last 48 hours for
[82]
these working groups that you're
[83]
familiar with now we're at a point in
[85]
the discussion where people will shortly
[90]
have to say yes or no we'll be
[92]
introducing our own bill
[95]
with what they discussing this is so no
[98]
deal that's bipartisan at this point and
[103]
Alex you heard Nancy Pelosi they're
[105]
saying Democrats plan to introduce their
[107]
own bill that does not bode particularly
[109]
well for resolving all of this quickly
[111]
and making sure they can have a final
[113]
vote tomorrow we have been hearing from
[115]
McConnell other Republican leaders
[116]
saying they don't think it's productive
[117]
at this late stage in the negotiations
[120]
for Democrats to be putting forth a new
[122]
separate bill that that only makes it
[124]
harder to get everybody on the same page
[126]
and actually get a law passed but from
[128]
Nancy Pelosi we actually overheard her
[130]
speaking to her staffers as they were
[132]
leaving a meeting today saying we are so
[134]
far apart Alex Josh what you just said
[137]
there about Senate Majority Leader Mitch
[140]
McConnell saying that he doesn't think
[142]
it's helpful for Democrats to put
[143]
forward their own bill at this point
[146]
does that smack of the blame game are
[148]
you getting a sense of the blame game
[150]
here during this particularly heightened
[152]
intense time absolutely there's
[155]
definitely politics being played here
[156]
right now as there always are where
[158]
Republicans have a point that there's an
[160]
urgency now that they need to do
[162]
everything they can to get something out
[164]
the door as quickly as possible
[165]
but Democrats have some very serious
[167]
concerns about the legislation as it
[170]
stands right now most particularly about
[173]
the restrictions or lack of sufficient
[176]
restrictions on how companies are going
[178]
to use this money to make sure that they
[180]
really put it to use in the way that's
[181]
going to most benefit Americans who are
[184]
struggling as opposed to shoring up the
[186]
bottom lines of these major corporations
[187]
okay so that is that is very important
[190]
so Democrats basically they're trying to
[192]
word wise put in insurance that the
[195]
money allotted to the businesses is
[197]
properly used or at least for the intent
[199]
that this bill would provide right that
[201]
would be used for singular Americans for
[204]
employees and like that's what your
[206]
senses of this that's exactly right they
[208]
don't want Democrats don't want this
[210]
money to be used for companies to give
[213]
big balloon payments major golden
[215]
parachutes to their executives they
[217]
don't want it to be used by companies
[218]
that are then going to lay off workers
[221]
and they don't want it to be used by
[222]
companies to buy back their own stock to
[224]
improve their
[225]
numbers on paper as opposed to making
[228]
sure that they use that money to make
[230]
sure they can continue to pay workers
[231]
and get it out to real people
