[18]
Many subscribers asked me about the SWIFT code
[22]
So in this video, we will see what is SWIFT code, and how does it work?
[28]
See, when you do an international business transaction
[31]
Let's say you are in India
[33]
And you want to bring money from any individual or
[35]
company in your account.
[38]
For that, you will need the SWIFT code
[40]
Sometimes, a question comes from the people that
[43]
There is no SWIFT code in our bank branch
[46]
What should we do in this situation? Should we open an
[50]
account in some other bank? Or you can take the money in that account only?
[55]
I will answer all these questions in this video.
[57]
So watch the video till the end.
[59]
Let's go straight towards the blackboard.
[61]
As I have told earlier if any bank deals with an international transaction
[66]
Then it will need a SWIFT code
[69]
A unique code is assigned to the particular branch of the bank.
[74]
If we talk about the full form of SWIFT then it is
[76]
Society For Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication
[80]
So whenever a bank wants to transfer the money to some other country
[85]
So the code of the branch is needed
[88]
To whichever branch it is sending the money
[90]
Then an encrypted message is sent
[92]
That this much amount is being transferred
[95]
And once it is received,
[97]
the money is wire transferred
[99]
So we also call it Bank Identifier Code
[102]
So if you hear BIC Code somewhere
[104]
Then it means you have to give the SWIFT code there.
[107]
And who approves these codes?
[110]
These are approved by the International Organization
[113]
For Standardization
[114]
We call it ISO in short
[116]
Now, I will tell you with an example
[119]
how does it work?
[120]
Assume a company whose account is in Bank of America
[123]
Let's say it wants to send some money from the USA
[126]
to the account of a particular individual who lives in India
[130]
Let's say you want this money
[132]
Let's say your account is in Allahabad Bank and your account is in
[138]
Bandra branch then you will need the SWIFT code of
[141]
Bandra branch of Allahabad
[143]
Its SWIFT code is ALLAINBBBOB
[149]
This is an eleven digit code
[151]
Generally, an eleven digit code is assigned to every branch
[157]
What does it mean? The first four digits are the bank code
[161]
So, ALLA for Allahabad bank
[165]
After that, the next two digits are country code
[168]
So, IN for India
[170]
The next two digits are the location codes
[173]
So for Mumbai or earlier, it was Bombay
[175]
So for that, it is BB
[177]
After that, the last three digits are branch codes.
[181]
So for Bandra branch there is a 3 digit code, BOB
[185]
Generally, for every branch, you will get an 11 digit code
[189]
But sometimes it can be 8 digit code for you
[192]
The primary branch, the head office of the Allahabad bank
[196]
It has only 8 digit code. The last three digits are not here because it is the head office
[201]
So there can be a code of 8 digits for the primary branch
[204]
So I think the concept of SWIFT code is clear to you
[207]
Now we will discuss that sometimes people have questions that
[211]
The bank which we have an account in doesn't have a SWIFT code
[216]
Many small branches are there where they do not deal with the international
[220]
transactions. So in this case,
[222]
which SWIFT code do you have to give or
[224]
you have to change your account
[226]
Do you have to open your account in the branch that has a SWIFT code?
[230]
No. It's nothing like that. You don't have to open your account in this type of branch
[235]
You can operate the account in whichever bank you have
[239]
And what do you have to do in such cases?
[241]
You can give the SWIFT code of the nearest branch.
[244]
Whoever deals in an international transaction.
[247]
You can call the customer care, you will know the nearest
[251]
the branch where the SWIFT code is available. You can give that code
[254]
After that, the money will be transferred to your account by tracking the account number
[258]
So that's all in this video
