[4]
yo what's up friends welcome back to
[6]
this week's video if you're new here
[8]
what's up my name is nicole and i make
[10]
weekly videos on personal finance
[11]
investing self-development and other fun
[13]
and interesting stuff a few months ago i
[16]
talked about the best hunter savings
[17]
accounts some things have changed since
[19]
then for this video i'm only going to be
[22]
talking about the best hybrid savings
[24]
accounts offered by digital banks so
[26]
none of the traditional dinosaur bdo bpi
[29]
0.5 high interest account
[32]
now
[33]
we're talking about banks of the future
[37]
this is how i'm going to structure this
[38]
video
[40]
first we're going to talk about the
[41]
difference between high interest savings
[43]
accounts and regular savings accounts
[45]
if you already have a regular savings
[47]
account what's the use of opening a high
[49]
interest savings account what's the
[51]
difference
[52]
then we're going to talk about digital
[53]
banks like what are digital banks and
[56]
how come they can afford to give higher
[58]
interest rates
[59]
and then we'll talk about the digital
[60]
banks available here in the philippines
[62]
so that includes ing cimb como discard
[66]
tech and then i'm also going to share
[68]
some of my thoughts about these bank
[69]
accounts my experiences so hopefully
[71]
that can guide you guys with picking
[73]
your own digital ban
[75]
sounds good gg let's get started
[79]
for those interested i'm also making a
[80]
video about cryptocurrency interest
[82]
accounts in the future which i'll link
[84]
here once available earning interest
[86]
with your cryptocurrency
[88]
yeah stay tuned
[91]
alright so high interest savings
[93]
accounts versus regular savings accounts
[96]
before we can talk about all of these
[97]
things we first need to get some idea of
[100]
how banks actually work
[103]
when you keep your money in the bank for
[105]
those of you guys who already have bank
[106]
accounts you might notice that you
[108]
receive some free money every month
[111]
so depending on your bank you might
[112]
receive the free money at either at the
[114]
start of the month or at the end of the
[116]
month this is what's called the interest
[118]
that you earn from keeping your money in
[120]
the bank
[121]
banks are still businesses businesses
[123]
need to make money and one of the main
[126]
ways they make money is through loans
[129]
they lend money to people
[132]
depositors like you and me we keep our
[134]
money in the bank right so the bank uses
[136]
the money of the depositors like your
[138]
money my money they use it and loan it
[140]
out to other people so the people who
[143]
borrow money from the bank for example
[145]
have to pay back that loan plus interest
[147]
my pato
[149]
that patton is the income of the bank
[152]
and as a reward for you at the poster
[154]
letting them use your money they give a
[156]
portion of that interest back to you
[158]
and that's where the free money the
[160]
interest that you earn every month in
[162]
your bank account comes from
[165]
okay goods goods you guys get that
[168]
regular savings accounts mob the ones
[170]
given by traditional banks give about
[172]
0.1 to 0.25 interest per year
[175]
while the digital banks that we're about
[177]
to talk about they give about 2.5 to 4
[180]
interest per year okay so how much of a
[183]
difference does this actually make
[186]
so i shared this calculator in a
[187]
previous video it's by a guy named
[189]
michael ignacio i found him on reddit
[192]
let's calculate the interest okay
[195]
so you guys can access it at cimb.com
[200]
all right let's say you have 10 000
[202]
pesos you put 10 000 pesos in an account
[205]
that gives you 0.25 interest per month
[208]
and withholding taxes 20 because all
[210]
interest that you receive are taxed at
[212]
the rate of 20
[214]
the estimated net interest that you
[215]
receive is 1.72 pesos per month
[219]
okay 1.72 pesos if you put 10 000 pesos
[223]
in an account that gives you 4
[225]
that's a net interest of 27 pesos point
[228]
56
[229]
27 pesos versus one pesos do you see how
[233]
much of a difference that makes if you
[235]
keep your money in a high interest
[236]
savings account
[238]
ten thousand let's make it bigger so you
[240]
put one hundred thousand in the zero
[242]
point twenty five percent interest
[243]
account that gives you a monthly
[245]
interest of about 17.22 pesos
[249]
if you put it in an account that gives
[251]
you four percent that's 275
[254]
pesos
[256]
275 versus
[258]
17 pesos
[262]
all right so just take note that this
[263]
calculator is just an estimate of how
[265]
much interest you'll be receiving it
[266]
doesn't mean that this is the interest
[268]
you'll receive in your account it will
[269]
depend on your average daily balance
[271]
when you deposit it blah blah blah if
[274]
you want to be like manual computation
[276]
this is how you compete for the interest
[278]
that you receive in your bank account
[279]
essentially what you do is that you
[281]
calculate the interest per day let's say
[284]
your balance today was one hundred
[285]
thousand pesos and the interest of the
[287]
bank gives you three percent then you
[289]
put one hundred thousand times three
[291]
percent
[293]
divided by 365 charan you earned 8.21
[297]
pesos today and then that just needs
[300]
just gonna do that every single day so
[302]
essentially the interest is calculated
[304]
per day and at the end of the month
[306]
that's how much you receive
[308]
all right
[308]
now what are digital banks so you guys
[312]
have heard of online banking right
[313]
online banking is essentially
[315]
traditional banks like bdo bpi metrobank
[318]
anything that has a physical branch that
[321]
offers their customers their clients the
[323]
option to do banking transactions online
[326]
like fund transfer paying bills etc with
[329]
digital banks they don't have any
[332]
physical branch all of the banking
[334]
transactions happen online so from the
[336]
sign ups all the way to like transacting
[339]
everything is done online and this is
[342]
primarily the reason why digital banks
[344]
can afford to give much higher interest
[346]
because they don't have to spend money
[348]
they don't have the cost that goes into
[351]
running a physical branch
[353]
ah gets all right now let's start with
[356]
the digital back showdown
[359]
just some reminders most of the
[361]
requirements to open an account with
[363]
these digital banks are the same
[365]
usually they require you to have one
[367]
valid id
[369]
they need you to be at least 18 years
[371]
old a filipino citizen or at least
[373]
someone who resides here in the
[374]
philippines which means that ofws are
[376]
allowed
[378]
all of these accounts are safe because
[379]
they're pdic insured up to 500 000 pesos
[383]
so don't worry
[385]
also interest rates can change so some
[388]
of these rates are promotional rates
[389]
which means that in the future they can
[391]
change it like they can make it higher
[393]
or lower so remember to check their
[395]
websites along to keep updated of the
[397]
latest promos yeah
[399]
all right so let's go through each of
[400]
the banks in no particular order number
[403]
one ing
[405]
so ing is one of the first few digital
[407]
banks here in the philippines i
[409]
personally have an ing account and i can
[411]
vouch for it
[413]
so ing has a base interest rate of 2.5
[416]
percent but currently they have an
[417]
ongoing promo for new clients so if you
[420]
create a new account anytime from
[421]
september 1 to december 31 2020 you'll
[425]
be receiving an interest rate of four
[427]
percent per annum for the first four
[429]
months
[430]
afterwards it will go back to the 2.5
[433]
but we'll see if they have new promos
[436]
so for existing clients like me we earn
[438]
a base interest rate of 2.5
[440]
but they have a ongoing promo where if
[443]
you put any additional deposits from
[445]
september to december then that
[447]
additional will earn at a rate of four
[449]
percent
[451]
ing doesn't require a minimum
[453]
maintaining balance and it there's also
[455]
no minimum balance to earn interest so
[457]
you can get that two point five percent
[460]
even if it's just one person account ten
[463]
pesos yeah no minimum maintaining
[465]
balance
[467]
in order to deposit to your ing account
[469]
you can either take a picture of a check
[471]
or you can fund transfer from other
[473]
banks so you need to have an existing
[475]
bank account in order to deposit to ing
[478]
there's no cash deposits currently
[481]
transferring money out of ing is also
[483]
free via peso net
[486]
ing also gives you the option to
[487]
generate electronic bank statements from
[490]
within the app so you don't need to go
[492]
to the bank to get the bank statement
[494]
you can just do it from the app
[496]
so the requirements to open an ing
[498]
account is that you need to be at least
[500]
18 years old you need to be a filipino
[502]
citizen or at least a resident of the
[504]
philippines which means ofws you're
[507]
allowed to open an ing account if you
[508]
guys are interested
[510]
as for ids they only accept philippine
[512]
passport a driver's license or a umid
[515]
card
[518]
next we have discard tech
[521]
so this card tech is by rcbc and they
[524]
offer an interest rate of 3.25 interest
[528]
it's it's like a mobile e-wallet param
[530]
gcash payment except you can earn
[533]
interest with it
[534]
but something that i find interesting
[536]
about it is that there's a referral code
[538]
system so the way for you to create an
[540]
account is that you need to get a
[542]
referral code from someone else
[544]
and
[545]
you're the person who referred you will
[546]
get 30 pesos and you will get 10 pesos
[550]
yeah and once you have an account you
[552]
can also start referring other people
[554]
into discard tech
[556]
i personally do not have any experience
[558]
with this card tech nor do i have any
[560]
referral codes so you guys can just
[562]
search this card tech videos there's a
[564]
lot
[565]
i don't like it so much because people
[567]
spam their referral codes so if you have
[569]
this card tech don't spam the codes in
[571]
the comment section below i will delete
[573]
it
[573]
but
[574]
don't spam
[575]
as usual the requirements to open a
[577]
discarded account is that you need to be
[579]
a filipino citizen you need to be at
[581]
least 18 years old and you need to
[583]
submit at least one valid id
[587]
number three
[588]
cimb so camb is also like ing it's one
[592]
of the first few digital banks here in
[594]
the philippines camb is a bank based in
[598]
malaysia they're one of the largest
[600]
banks in southeast asia
[602]
for cimb there's g save and up save
[605]
g save you can access the g save account
[608]
through g cash so you can access it
[610]
under the save money option
[612]
so for g save you can earn an interest
[614]
of up to four percent depending on the
[616]
promo so currently they have an ongoing
[618]
promo where if your balance is below one
[621]
hundred thousand then you earn an
[622]
interest rate of three percent but if
[624]
you have at least one hundred thousand
[626]
in your account then you can earn an
[628]
interest rate of about four percent per
[630]
annum
[632]
so when you first open a gsave account
[634]
through the gcash app you only have the
[637]
g-save lite account this has limits it's
[639]
only valid for 12 months and your money
[642]
you can only deposit up to 100 000 into
[644]
the account in order to get those limits
[647]
removed you need to link your g save
[649]
account to the cimb app and once you do
[652]
that mata tango demand limits
[655]
next we have upsave it's mostly the same
[657]
as g-save except this one you open it
[660]
directly in the cimb mobile app same
[663]
interest rates for balances below one
[665]
hundred thousand you earn three percent
[667]
and if you have at least one hundred
[668]
thousand then you earn an interest rate
[671]
of four percent per year
[673]
what's cool about upsave and gsave is
[675]
that they offer free life insurance
[677]
coverage up to one million pesos if you
[679]
have at least one hundred thousand pesos
[681]
in your account you're automatically
[683]
qualified for free life insurance
[686]
if you're wondering if you can have both
[687]
a g save account and an upsave the
[689]
answer is yes i have both accounts but
[693]
if ever you want to have both accounts
[694]
you need to open g save first before
[697]
opening an up save because they have
[698]
this rule that once you have an existing
[700]
cimb account you won't be able to open a
[703]
gsave
[704]
i don't know why
[706]
and if you're wondering if there's a
[707]
debit card yes there is you need to open
[710]
the ca m fast or fastplus account
[714]
in order to receive the cimb debit card
[717]
you get the atm card once you are able
[720]
to deposit 5000 pesos in your fast
[722]
account
[723]
they'll deliver it to your house
[727]
next we have como
[729]
so como is a new entrant to the digital
[731]
banking space and it's probably the
[734]
first digital bank ever to be offered by
[736]
a local bank it's by east west
[739]
just for context i opened an account
[741]
last september 15 and i got verified
[743]
yesterday september 18.
[746]
let me just say that the account opening
[748]
process was so smooth i was so surprised
[750]
i did it at night and i just finished in
[752]
like 10 minutes so seamless
[755]
so your com account earns you an
[757]
interest of three percent per annum
[759]
and you can deposit into the account
[761]
with instapay and you need to deposit it
[764]
to east west rural bank for como like
[767]
ing you also have the option of
[770]
generating e-statements within the app
[773]
fun fact why if ever you're wondering
[775]
why it's called combo it says on their
[777]
website that it's called como because
[780]
it stands for control no money mod they
[783]
want to give people back the control
[785]
over their money
[787]
what's also cool with como unlike the
[789]
fast or fast bus account they
[791]
automatically issue you a debit card no
[794]
minimum maintaining balance like once
[796]
you sign up and you get verified they're
[798]
automatically going to process you the
[800]
debit card and you need to wait about a
[802]
week and they'll deliver it to your
[804]
house how cool is that
[806]
now for some of my thoughts i can
[808]
personally vouch for cimb ing and como
[812]
because i have accounts with all three
[814]
this car tech i'm not so sure i haven't
[815]
experimented with it i haven't
[817]
encountered any security issues with
[819]
these apps yet so i can personally vouch
[822]
for
[823]
these banks
[824]
if you want to learn more about how i
[826]
personally organize and use my accounts
[829]
you can check out this video here that i
[830]
made previously
[832]
it's how i manage my money as a 20 year
[834]
old
[835]
if you're stressing out on which account
[837]
to open i would just say to pick one
[840]
all of these bank accounts are pretty
[842]
solid they give much higher interest
[844]
rates than the regular savings accounts
[846]
that traditional banks offer my biggest
[849]
advice is not to stress so much about
[851]
the 0.5 to 1 interest difference between
[854]
these accounts
[855]
i think a better use of your time is
[857]
investing in yourself to invest in your
[860]
skills so you can find more ways to
[862]
generate more income and then that
[865]
income you can invest and save to grow
[867]
you more money
[869]
all right these are savings accounts
[870]
they're not so much a way to grow your
[872]
money they're just a place for you to
[874]
park your money while you're not using
[877]
them
[878]
a better way to grow your money is
[880]
really by investing them i have a lot of
[882]
videos about investing if you guys are
[884]
interested
[885]
if you're curious to find out what i
[887]
personally invest in i made a video
[889]
about the things i'm investing in you
[890]
can check it out here
[892]
but yeah something to remember
[894]
a five percent gain on a one million
[896]
peso investment is a lot larger than a
[899]
50
[900]
gain on the 1 000 peso investment so
[903]
yeah work to increase your capital and
[905]
you'll be better off in the long run
[908]
so the featured comment for this video
[909]
is by f the rents i'm just 15 years old
[912]
and
[914]
investigative habits and focusing on
[917]
improving myself every day
[919]
that's so solid like 15 years old i also
[922]
remember that i was trying to better
[923]
myself at 15. really focusing on
[927]
yourself developing in yourself to
[929]
become the best person you can be is the
[931]
best investment of your time and effort
[934]
and yeah
[935]
